  1. Speak for yourself. I've made millions hosting tournaments.
  2. I'm a big fan of @kingraph @angryjay93 @TecmoJon and @chaos for all of their contributions along so many areas, specifically in all of the Edge online tournaments we ran this past year, with score entry, mic contributions, or both. I'm sure I missed someone that's helped with all of that, but they're contributions were greatly appreciated.
  3. It's also updated in the original post, but signups are live! Signup Link : https://tinyurl.com/modano2signup
  4. Nearly two years ago, we moved the tournament to Minneapolis for a very successful event. Then a global pandemic, and everything else that went along with that kept us away for 2021. We're ready to emerge from the dust of chaos and strife in this world, to help bring a shred of normalcy back to the world. Buds, I introduce to you you Modano Mo Problems II, the 6th "annual" tournament brought to you by Edge of 94 Midwest, with some help from our bud @LeifErikson and AV For You! That's right, live NHL94 tournaments are back! Signup Link : https://tinyurl.com/modano2signup What : NHL94 Tournament for Sega Genesis Where : The Moxy Uptown 1121 W Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55408. We will be in their lobby like we were in 2020 for the Friday night activities, but this time for the entire weekend. You can book your room for our preferred rate of $89 a night here : https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1635357103740&key=GRP&app=resvlink If you have any issues with booking, you can contact them via phone here: (612) 822-5020 When : February 5th, 2022, 11AM start time. Side note : There will be side action at the venue Friday evening Feb 4th with a possible side tournament to be announced. Cost : $40 in advance/ $50 at the door paid via PayPal to trojan1979@gmail.com https://www.paypal.me/trojan1979 Make sure to use the "Friends and Family" aka "Someone You Know" for your payment. Payout : Approximately 75% of the funds collected will be paid out over the top 8 places. Additionally the prize pools will be boosted by online tournament contributions. At the time of this tournament posting, the current amount that is being added to the prize pool from online tournaments is $671.25 Example, if $1,000 was being paid out 1st Place 35% $350 2nd Place 20% $200 3rd Place 15% $150 4th Place 10% $100 5/6/7/8 Place 5% $50 each. Food/Drink : The Moxy has a full bar, and a restaurant is in the process of being constructed inside of the Moxy Hotel. All food and drink consumed onsite for the event must be purchased from the Moxy. Those wishing to get other options will be able to do so as there are a number of other restaurants within reasonable walking distance of The Moxy, however they must not be consumed at the event itself. For tournament continuity, there will be a pause after the group phase as scores/seedings are tabulated to give people an opportunity to get a break in. Format : Group play will precede bracket play. A single elimination bracket will follow the group play phase. A Maximum of 32 players will compete and all players will advance to a bracket round. Rounds of 32/16 will be a best 2/3 series(first to 2 wins). Rounds of 8/4 will be a best of 5 series(first to 3 wins). The championship series will be a best of 7 series(first to 4 wins). Higher seed will pick tier and be player 2/home team for game 1. In game 2 the lower seed is then Player 1 and the home team picking the tier. This continues to alternate until a series winner is crowned. Rules : 5 minute periods, penalties on, no offside, manual goalie. If it's in the game, it's in the game. No game mechanics are banned. Examples are pass shots, CB checks, hail mary shots, goalie interference goals, rebound goals on penalty shots, etc. A coin flip winner will be the home team(player 1) and call the tier for team selection. The opposing player is the away team(player 2) and chooses which team they want based on the tier selected. You may select from within or below the tier specified. Example: Player 1 selects Tier 2. That removes DET, BUF, CHI, VAN, MTL from selection in that matchup. Player 1 chooses CGY, Player 2 selects BOS. Player 1 and Player 2 may not play as the same team. You must take a different team in the selected tier each time. You are only permitted to repeat a team selection once you have used the other teams within that tier an equal number of times. (Exception to this rule if player 2 has selected the last remaining team available for player 1 in said tier, another team may be selected that was already used by player 1) This process resets between group play and the playoffs. Trojan and Leif Erikson are the tournament referees in the event of disputes/complaints. Genesis Tiers : Tier 1: DET, BUF CHI, VAN Tier 2: MTL, LA, CGY, WPG, BOS Tier 3: QUE, DAL NYR, TOR Tier 4: PHI, EDM, WSH, PIT Tier 5: NJD, STL, HFD, NYI Tier 6: TB, SJ, OTW, ANH, FLA Games cannot end in a tie. A new game must be started in the event of a tie game at the end of overtime. Intentional time wasting in your own zone is prohibited. You must attempt advancing the puck into the opposing zone whenever possible. Players caught abusing this may have goals deducted, or in extreme cases the game awarded to the opposing player. Players are required to take a photo of their score and report to the scorekeeper. There is a 6 goal deficit mercy rule. The game is over once a 6 goal difference is reached. 6 goals is the max goal differential counted. Players are permitted to bring their own OEM or approved 3rd party controllers. All other equipment is provided by us. Having equipment on hand from volunteers as spares is always appreciated, but not required. Systems/Equipment : With the exception of our stream setup, which will use a low latency high definition display paired with an Analogue Mega SG, the remainder systems are 1st party Genesis systems on CRT displays, many of which are professional video monitors. The CRT's are provided by AV For You. Again, competitors may bring their own Genesis controllers if they so desire, 3 or 6 button. How can you help? In short, register early. Get your hotel and flight(if applicable) booked ASAP. Invite people to join you on your journey early and often. Show up on time with a good attitude, and just be an awesome bud to everyone you meet.
  5. Saturday February 5th, it's all about NHL94 on Genesis. Friday night, we'll have some options if we want to have a side competition. While there will most certainly be pickup games of 94 played all night, there is an opportunity here to play some other games in a quick single or double elim format should there be enough interest. The games should be on the Genesis since that's what we'll have setup. I'll throw out some suggestions, but feel free to add your own. These are meant to be fun, and not to be taken too seriously. Street Fighter 2 Special Championship Edition(the Genesis port of Hyper Fighting) -More people play this than you probably realize, and it even supports handicap(give/take more/less damage) which I'm in favor of to help even things out. I also have a ton of copies of this game on the cheap. NBA Jam T.E. - always a fun game, having this might coax some guys to travel that might not otherwise come. I have a number of copies and I know a few others might be able to bring an extra cartridge. NHL94 Rewind Custom Rom, would need some help getting enough flash carts, but I think this could be a blast. This would probably best the most intense tournament if we did it. We could probably get by with 4-6 total flash carts to make this work depending on how many people were there. NHL94 2v2s Pros and Joes, a really fun way to kick off the weekend. I would need some help with the 4 player adapters. We could probably get by with just a couple of these setups since it occupies 8 people at once. Mortal Kombat 1 or 2 - a hail mary if you will, since it's one of my favorite all time games, and I have multiple copies. Games are quick, and the nostalgia factor is pretty high. Let me know your thoughts.
  6. Thanks to your help it will be! Guys I'd like to give Leif a huge shout out again for all his help. He'll be supplying the broadcast quality CRT's again, and has been my boots on the ground for all of this.
  7. It's happening! Live NHL94 is back! We'll be returning to Minneapolis in 2022! There are many details to be revealed soon, but I wanted to get the date out to all of those that would be interested. Here's what we know : We will have Friday night activities/open play February 4th. Depending on how many people can show up for both days, we can potentially do something tournament-esque, or keep it casual and get the rust off. If we can get ahold of enough flash carts, doing something with the NHL94 Rewind rom hack was one possibility. Saturday February 5th will have a noon target start time. This will give people plenty of time that would be driving in from out of town if they can't make Friday's activities. We will be doing Genesis only officially. Based on past SNES participation, the situation in Canada, and the RSVP status for our past Elmhurst SNES guys led to this decision. The Genesis tournament will be expanded, and the pace of gameplay will be toned down, giving more people opportunities(myself included) to compete, announce, and take a breather in between games. Cost for the tournament will be $40. We will have a mix of door and raffle prizes available. Payouts will get boosted by our online tournaments. Our venue for both days will be Moxy Uptown in Minneapolis, MN, which is also our preferred hotel. This venue was used for a pre-party in 2020, and it was a big hit. They have told us they are adding a restaurant and it should be done before the tournament. They already have a great bar. If the restaurant isn't ready in time, we'll have plenty of short walk food options, and of course, delivery is always an option. Since it's a hotel, we can bring in these items. Since the schedule will be more open, we'll be adaptable to this situation, to make sure everyone has a chance to get some food, even scheduling a dedicated pause to give everyone a chance to scratch that itch. Our goal for this tournament is 24 or more players, but not more than 32. At this point, it's been so long since we've had a live NHL94 event, that I'd be ok with a compact group of 8 guys, but I know we can and will do much better than that. Registration will open on or before November 1st, and I'll be sure to share a link to the affiliate promo rate we'll be getting with the Moxy for our crew. It's been nearly 2 years since we ran our last event, and it's going to be amazing seeing so many of you buds again! For those of you who didn't see the venue last time, here are some pics of the venue. Here's some pics from the last tournament weekend for a better reference:
  8. Catch our 5 game "The Hustler" finals series between Green Majik and Birdhas with Trojan and @angryjay93 on the mic! https://t.co/2nvMo3xClP?amp=1 https://twitter.com/trojanvoice/status/1427595760103743488?s=20
  9. Our goal of starting tomorrow is slightly hindered by not quite enough signups. I'm looking for a few more warm bodies that wouldn't mind hearing Tim Kitzerow yell Boomshakalaka!
  10. Sign ups are rolling in. If you're able to help spread the word, I have a tweet out there that could use some retweets. https://twitter.com/trojanvoice/status/1401907851656937473?s=20
  11. I 100% support this concept. If you still want to get together casually with people, there is nothing stopping you. There has to be a carrot at the top to keep people interested, and there has to be a penalty to those so say eff it. That penalty is being out $25 for not giving a s**t. This is no different than fantasy sports. Those who don't pay stop changing their lineups after week 3.
