  1. Great game?

I dont mean to offend, but I just find it really strange that anyone could have any kind of fun with those kind of numbers.

    - 21 Fights - I would have been annoyed and bored after the 1st one. We're not talking Street Fighter calibur fighting here.

    - 103 penalties - Again, I would have been annoyed after the 1st or 2nd penalty.

    - 22-0 Victory - Either you are a 92 god or your dad is just plain horrible. Any mismatch that bad can't be any fun. Might as well play a gimp with no hands or fingers.

Again, I don't mean to be rude, but how is that a "great" game? To each, their own I guess.

  2. A simulated league? Interesting... You don't play the game? The gameplay is what makes this game a classic!

What tool are you using to extract the stats? I've heard it is possible to extract through the save state files. I'd love to be able to pull the stats out of my games. Hook me up! B)

  3. Port forwarding is needed for any application in which a machine on your LAN is to listening for connections. Nothing to do with SNES/GENS or even computer OS.

Hmm... That's funny. Out of the 10+ people I helped setup for online play using gens, not one of them had to forward ports on their routers. And I certainly didn't forward ports on mine. Strange...

  4. My wireless connection, even with a low ping, is just horrid for playing online. I live near downtown chicago so there quite a bit of interference from neighboring wireless networks. I've used other wireless networks in less congested areas and it works fine.

So in a nutshell, if your on wireless, try using an ethernet cable and see if it makes a difference. It's a huge difference for me.

It also seems some servers, even with a low ping, just arent smooth for me. Try other servers that give responses under 100ms. Sometimes even with a higher response time, you'lll be surprised by the smoother gameplay.

  5. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, the corded XBOX360 controllers are compatible with PC. Been meaning to try one.

I bought the xbox 360 controller only to return due to the fact I could not use the Digital D-Pad on it. If you are fine using the analog sticks this controller does work. (There is no "Mode" button to turn off the analog sticks)

It's a shame since this controller feels rock solid and has a really nice d-pad.

  6. For drafting purposes, I would go for a good goalie 1st. Roy and Belfour are just plain sick. Almost unfair to have either of these 2 netminders.

If the goalie's are unavailable, Roenick. Roenick can simply do everything exceptionally well.

If Roenick is gone too, then it really depends on your playing style.

Like to do lots of fakes? - Go for Agility

    One - Timers? Offensive Awareness

    Slap Shot? Shot Power

Defensive Player? - Checking or Defensive awareness

    just my 2 cents.

  7. I would say being hot or cold has a slight affect. You can take a look at a cold player's ratings and see some of the numbers have dropped. Opposite applies to a hot player.

I personally never pay attention to it. It's not like you would ever pull Jeremey Roenick out of the game because Ron Barr says he's cold. A cold Roenick will still dominate a hot Goulet.

  8. Anyone have any experience with the genesis Retrobox? Or has anyone ordered from retrousb.com?

Looks pretty cool, but not sure that i'd want to risk purchasing from such a ghetto looking website. I'm just wondering if this is legit. You'd figure this guy would have an ebay store if he was serious.

(probably should move this post to "General")

  9. Looks like we have a replacement for Vancouver.

The old vancouver Coach had a lot of close games. Any chance for rematches since it is a new coach? ;)

Its probably a lot of work for Evan recalculate stats and what not, so if not, it's not biggie.

  10. I like to keep the game moving. Unneeded stoppages are just a drag. Rarely do I have my goalies freeze the puck. And I never stand in front of the goalie as he is trying to pass the puck. To keep things moving I skate away.

What are people’s thoughts out there? Is it acceptable to stand in face of your opponent’s goalie as he tries to move the puck up ice?

I'm talking a game with no line changes. I understand with line changes you might need to force a break to change your lines.

  11. I know HABS loves the Islanders (in the game). So mabye they arent all that bad.

I wanna see how far I can get with San Jose, LOL. At least your team is better than mine (I think).

I'm sure lots of skilled people out there can do well with the Isles. But me being a newb, am definately not one of those people. There are people that are just hands down better then me. Give a better guy a better team, and I get waxed.

    Good job with the sharks!

  12. There's definately some oddities with good checkers in the game. But I can't put my finger on it. Look at Gretzky. He's an a$$ kicker in the game. And yes, he is a light weight. Cliff Ronning is another example. (agile and light)

Another a$$ kicker is Petr Klima. Granted he is no Fluery or Gilmour. Hes rated low in checking, heavy, but still can hit pretty good. So Klima seems to throw off the weight theory a bit.

I wish one of the developers of the game found this board and could give us a real answer.

  13. In the NHL94 online league I ended up with the Islanders. Not the greatest team in the world, nor is it the worst. I just don’t know how to use em. I've played some really skilled opponents out there and have taken a beating. Maybe I'm just F'd but are there any recommendations for a newbie internet player using this team?

    • EXTREMELY weak defensively and seriously lacks any checking ability

    • Horrible Goalies

    • Mediocre Scorers (IMO)

o Hogue – Rated fast but feels like molasses. Pretty good shot accuracy. Can’t hit at all.

o Turgeon – A hot and cold player. Sometimes he has a shot but most days he is average at best. Again, he can’t hit.

o Thomas – He’s one of those guys that is rated decently as a checker but in reality he can’t hit at all.

o King – I use this guy because he “sometimes” has a shot. He falls when someone breathes on em. Again, he can’t hit

o Ferraro – Another hot and cold player. Again, Cant hit.

    • Horrible Defensemen

o Malakov – this guy (IMO) is worthless. (Can’t hit, Can’t skate, Can’t shoot)

o Kasparitis – The ONLY guy that I am aware of that can hit. (Mediocre at best) But that’s about all he can do.

    • Penalties – Normally with penalties off, you can make due for the lack of checking ability by hooking a player with the A button. But can’t risk having a guy in the box with such a weak bench.

Again, I’m just looking for some tips to be competitive with this team.

  14. I was looking for recommendations for friends of mine that are starting to play nhl online. A bunch of em bought the Logitechs. Seems to work just fine.

Ahh the sega saturn pad. I personally use one with a USB adapter. Its rocks. Real nice layout for fighting games and the d-pad is near perfect. Unfortunately they are near impossible to find or you have to get one shipped from overseas.

I have an extra Saturn pad (non-usb) if anyone is interested.

  15. Another potential problem could be with the player card pointer data referencing a player index that doesn't exist e.g. because you reduced the amount of players in a team.

Does it happen at the startup/main menu if you let it cycle the same player cards?

Also, try testing the Player Cards screen (in-game menu) as well to see if the same bug happens there when you cycle through the players. (Hit start immediately after Ron Barr shows up to get past that sceen)

Check the player card tutorial at my site for more info re the player card pointers.

    Thanks for the tips.

I know for sure it does not happen at the startup/options menu when I cycle through the cards.

Ill check out your card tutorial.
