NHL’94 Etiquette Guide From time to time different issues come up in regards to sportsmanship, or etiquette in playing NHL’94 online vs. other players. This following is an etiquette guide, which I hope we can all contribute to, in an attempt to minimize conflicts. I’m not an etiquette authority and I’d like to make this a wiki-type of guide. I’m not the first to try this idea – special thanks to the following members who started and contributed to this topic before. Hello there! To get playing online, you need to join our Discord group and do a test game. Once you join Discord you can ask a Vet to walk you through setting up and playing your first game. Once you get a game in, you are "verified". Verified people can join our leagues! (Or just keep playing exhibition games, if you like...) Getting Started with Discord™ Use this invite link to join DIscord: https://discord.gg/H7vrytU <--- this may be all you need! Then once you have joined, if you need it, use this link to see our group... https://discordapp.com/channels/@me/279827632479141889 Now: 1. Click the "NHL94" logo in the left column. 2. N…

There is a new way to play online, without having to install anything. Jam.gg is a service, that runs directly in your Browser (Chrome or Edge are recommended though). You just create an account, which is free right now, and you can select a game on the platform. Or you can use the BYOG (bring your own game) option, to throw in a rom, that you are holding. It is as easy as drag and drop. Supported systems are genesis, snes, N64, PS1 amongst others. Then you can invite a friend by sharing a link and play together. Up to 8 people can be in a room together. Video conference Tools are supported, like Webcam, voice Chat, message Board. You can literally throw in any cont…

So obviously the best experience you'll have playing online is if you are home alone, wired in with nothing else competing for internet bandwidth. That's not to say that you should kick out your room-mates, or abandon your wife and children...well..no, don't do that. In my house, I am competing with phones/tablets/laptops - all of which are chatting/surfing/streaming. My computer is the only thing hardwired, the rest are accessing using WIFI. The best way to eliminate the others, is to simply turn off the WIFI on my router, easy and effective. I even do this latenight, just to eliminate the opportunity for a phone/tablet/laptop from starting an update. If this i…

Hello everyone! Long time no talk again. A little over a year ago I asked about playing on my tablet, as my laptop was basically on it's death bed. This route seemed futile. A couple months ago I was able to get my hands on an XBox Seres S. I have recently seen videos on YouTube that are saying that retroarch can be installed onto an XBox, as it is a Microsoft device. I am wondering people's opinions on how I can possibly go about playing through my XBox, and if online play is even possible on it. I would like to get back into playing and being with this community, but I'd really rather not spend hundreds of dollars on a new computer that would so…

Hi, I followed the guide to download a while ago but I just can't get into playing on the keyboard. Ideally, I don't really want to buy a new controller, will my PS4 controller worked? It's connected to my computer but nothing is happening. Any help much appreciated. PS: It'll be a while before you see my online as I'm terrible, but I'll keep chipping away and hope one day I can make the major's!

I've seen a few threads recently about handheld emulation, and both times it was focused on the original DS family. Emulation on those consoles is definitely much more well documented and cheaper, so if you're looking for ease or something low cost, it's a great option, but for anyone who wants the 3DS library or a bit more of a premium experience, I'd recommend springing for the 3DS. I'll stop soapboxing about how great of a console it is and get to the main point: playing NHL on the console. 1. You will need a homebrewed console, preferably one of the "new" models for speed purposes. If you need to homebrew your 3DS, follow this guide here. 2. After you h…

I successfully set up the Sega CD ROM today but there is no music. I did download the tracks from NHL94.com. I know most of you are probably cringing just reading this heading as it was a 'fun' process of getting it to work to begin with. All I want to know is if it's possible to get the music working with the ROM. I've been unsuccessful in doing so this afternoon. If it's not, I will just play the game as is. If it is possible I will continue my efforts. Any advice is also welcomed.

I can't see where I can change my display name. I went to the online help, and it says it should be under the "personal profile" section, but it's not there. Is it because I'm relatively new that the option is disabled and doesn't show up under "My Controls"

Hello Again Everyone! So it's been a while for me, as a schedule that included a full time job with going to grad school the last 2.5 years kept me pretty damn busy. I was happy to be able to attend tournaments both in Long Island and Vancouver during that time though! So, unfortunately, my current laptop is crap. Part of the keyboard doesn't work sometimes, and it is just very very slow. Playing online with that thing doesn't seem possible at this point. I recently purchased a google pixel slate tablet with a keyboard, which is an android device, not windows. So I am wondering if retroarch runs on android, and if I will be able to play online, or…

I've been playing SNES games online recently with something called Parsec, it's this free program that essentially lets you share your computer, and someone remotely connects as a second (or third or fourth etc.) player. They can use their controller, keyboard, mouse, etc. It's pretty rad, and the latency is impressively low if you've got good internet. Thought I'd share it with everyone, I actually used it to play NHL '96 with a friend just a few days ago. https://parsecgaming.com/ It's way easier to set up than Hamachi etc, it just sort of...works.

Download these two files and put them in your GENS folder that has the kailleraclient.dll file as well and you'll have the option to record your games. This is the same files from here: http://p2p.kaillera.ru/#, just unzipped from a 7z file to save time okai_recorder.dll zlib1.dll

Seeking anecdotal evidence of the best OS and internet network for our favorite game. (Results to be added to an online guide.) Feel free to add any other advice on the best computer setup, or internet setup, for this ancient yet beloved game! (For example, I have heard some people say Windows 10 has caused issues, yet I know others are using it without issue?)

Hello, i need help. I'm new to online playing, but managed to have a few test games with Jwebber64. Games were really laggy with ping way over 300! I did some internet speedtests today and ping was always somewhere from 20 to 70 depending on where the server was located. Then i remembered Jwebber64 telling me that "you're blue on hamachi" and found out that it means "relayed connection". He also has the blue dot on my hamachi, or haguichi since i'm on linux. Now, how do i turn my connection into "direct" like it should be? There's few instructions on the internet, but they're all for the hamachi interface thats a bit different than the haguichi. I just can't mak…

Last updated May 27, 2018 Part 1: Wifi Versus Wired The Short Story Plug In! (And disable wifi) The Long Story No matter how great your wifi is, or you think your wifi is, you are always better off wired. Period. The reason why boils down to interference and packet loss. A wired connection has a shielded cable that all but eliminates any local radio interference. A wifi connection, no matter how modern and how close you are to your router, will always be prone to interference. If you live in a city, even your neighbor using their microwave oven could interfere with your wifi signal! Nevermind all of the electronic gadgetry that we use all around us ev…

Hello all, We're going to be starting a league at my work and figured I should iron this out. In NHL '94-'97 on the Genesis, when you are playing against a friend in a one-off exhibition game, does the "Skill level" setting matter? Does is affect auto-controller goalies or you AI teammates? Just curious. Can't find anything on this anywhere. Thanks for the help!
