  4. One of the great things about this community is how people play from all over the world! It is testament to how great this games is, and the community as a whole is better having participants from all over. The downside is: laggy connections. What are the best ideas and strategies to combat this? Whether is is hardware, software, using client instead of Hamachi, playing at a certain time, etc., etc., let's make the King of All Lag threads! Please add your comments and strategies below. I will also update this original thread with links that I find on this much discussed subject. There are probably some gems already in the forum. Useful Links Lag…

I got the kailleraclient.dll and put it in the gens folder, but netplay still remains gray/blurry and i can't click on it. It seems that kaillera doesn't work on linux at all, or am i wrong? Is there something i can do to get the netplay working? Is kaillera the only option?

  8. I recently bought a laptop that wasn't designed for gaming, but I didn't expect it to be unable to run nhl 94 smoothly. It's no biggie if it can't run 94 anyway since I don't have internet still, but it's just annoying, and I feel like I may have well bought the cheapest laptop I could find if it can't even run this. Anyway to my question, what computer specs could be holding this laptop back from being able to run 94 smoothly? Could it be "Dedicated Video Memory?" Mine has only 128mb, and since it's a lame laptop I can't change that. Any help would be appreciated. I have 14 days to return it, and I'm probably going to end up returning it, but still

OBS Studio - streaming software - record your screen + audio and stream to twitch.tv, youtube, etc - also records videos to your hard drive https://obsproject.com/ Video guide (table of contents page) Stream Pro - online tool for integrating stuff like donations and overlays into your stream (i think via OBS studio somehow.. I haven't used it..) https://streampro.io/ Capture Devices - for if you want to record from an actual console Elgato Video Capture (Component video) - canada - us…

This is a guide to use and setup Hamachi https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en 1. Download from link 2. Install basic version 3. Create username 4. join network group: ippon-team password: turbosliders and or: network group: nhl94p2p password: monkeytime 5. leave open while using gens 6. allows anybody (who normally cant host, because of router/ports etc) to play and host p2p 7. Use your hamachi IP address when hosting, it shows this in the large numbers at the top. Copy it down and the port you are using to host in Gens, ie 5.128.44.132:27888

  12. Ok, I have read "Hot / Cold Effect" from Raph's site, here: http://nhl94strategy.com/?page_id=201 Do I understand it right? For the unhacked Classic ROM: 1. The HOT/COLD screen is useless (does not indicate who is hot or cold correctly) 2. The displayed player attributes (when you are in-game and go to "Edit Lines") are also useless (as in, they are incorrect) BUT 3. There really is a HOT or COLD effect, and it is applied to each attribute (all are hot or all are cold), but there is no way to see this effect. You need to "feel" it. DO I have it right?

I've said this multiple times before. The section labelled "AIM Screen Name" for the Classic Registration is confusing for many newcomers. It should say "AIM Login" instead. I'd say about 25-30% of newcomers get confused and actually put the nickname they choose for AIM. I've probably seen close to 80 newcomers get tricked by this. I remember for a fact that Uncle Seth was tricked by this too. Now he is one of our top players. There is a good chance we have missed out on 4-5 high level players due to this confusion.

Hi guys. I'm looking to have a few games online. NHL 94 (gens or snes). I'm in Ireland so timezone might be an issue but I'm pretty flexible (especially at the weekend). Anyone who wants an easy game ... and maybe would like to coach me a little can pm me or mail brianon.run@gmail.com. Is AIM the most popular chat client here ?

EDIT: Grrrr... This is supposed to be a poll, but I can't see how to add one? The 3 choices are below. (If a mod made this into a poll that would be cool, in the mean time I am manually writing results below.) I noticed some people use a keyboard, and was thinking (though the learning curve would be steep) it might have an advantage? I used to use a Genesis 6-button controller (with adapter for USB), but it got too broken down. So out of necessity I switched to a 3rd party "Buffalo" controller, similar to Classic Nintendo gamepad. I have gotten used to it, but wonder if it helps or hinders having different button placement? What do you use? (Feel free to indicate w…

Hey Buds, I've just set up gens on a second computer. The game is sharp for a second, when switching on and off VSync, but then "downscales" or goes blurry. Almost like removing your glasses blurry. I've tried F9 - makes it worse. Anyone had any problems with this? Every other CPU I've set up it's sharp. This is a super good new laptop with good video card. BTW I do not mean pixelated. Thanks Raven

Hey guys, Not sure if this has been posted before but I found this online in-browser version of NHL 94. It actually plays out really smoothly. http://www.ssega.com/play/nhl-hockey-94/1181 Now I'm wondering if we would be able to find a way to add multiplayer support to this. Looks like it is built on JavaScript.

I saw on http://www.one-quest.com/blog/nhl94-com-its-in-the-ga-pt-2-smozoma/that: "One bug I could probably fix is the one where a successful one-timer pass is not counted as a successful pass, bringing down your passing percentage." Could someone (like Smozoma) elaborate on this bug? Specifically I am wondering if the one timer pass is counted as an errant pass, or just ignored altogether?

I didn't really get into the online thing, and the forum, until the King of 94 tourney came to my home town. After that, I decided to try my hand at online play. But it was a bit confusing, and still is somewhat. Can someone explain the different online leagues, and how they differ? To a newcomer, I think this way: There are 3 "main" leagues: 1. Classic 2. Blitz 3. GDL Classic uses the original unaltered '94 ROM. Blitz uses.... I have no idea. And GDL uses some sort of customized ROM based on players drafted by the different coaches. I am not sure if it has hacks for weight bugs and whatnot, but it uses the original players, right? Then there are other, "smalle…

Hello and Good Day! I have noticed some teams I control have a tendency to keep a defensive shape (which I like!) and other teams sometimes suffer from Red Sea Syndrome, where they decide to part like the Red Sea and generously grant free access to my net to attacking forwards. Or sometimes they have pinched so far forward I am open to breakaways and 2 and 3 on nones happening repeatedly. Why? Is this a matter the Defensive Awareness of my defenders? Or more a matter of my D having high Offensive awareness, and wanting to pinch? Or perhaps speed is a factor, and I should have fat and slow tortoises on D that would rather not, or cannot, skate to the other end of the…

For drafting players: 1. Would you rather have high speed or high agility? 2. Would you rather have high agility or high stickhhandling? 3. Would you rather have high shot power or high shot accuracy? 4. In a "weight bug fixed" league, what are the top 1 or 2 attributes that you would look for? 5. BONUS QUESTION: Does anyone know Jeremy Roenick's ratings across the board? Why am I asking? I am trying to wrap my head around what to look for in the upcoming Velocity League Draft. For the record I have done searches, and got some info from here: http://nhl94strategy.com/?page_id=40 http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/topic/14453-about-player-attributes/ http://forum.nh…

I am just thinking, PS4 has internet, so can I download an emulator, and then play NHL 94 through my PS4, on my big TV, with my PS4 controller? I don't know- perhaps the PS4 has some built in blocker that won't let me emulate video games (to stifle competition or preserve copyright or whatever boring/ obnoxious corporate reason)? I suppose I could research it online, but figure someone here would know for sure. I would like to get into gaming with everyone here, and am awaiting some assistance from Coach Mac to help me get set up with my Mac. I would also like to get set up on my PS4, if possible.

  24. I wondered if we did this one year with one of the 2v2 leagues? Essentially I'm looking at tracking scores for recreational games with no set schedule (perhaps only a cap on the number of times two players can play each other), but being able to rank them based on some sort of skill-adjusted score. Obviously you could simply rank averages (Goal Diff or Winning %), but I'd like to factor in the strength of each player. I've scoured the net, and looked at things like college football ranking systems and World Cup soccer - but can't figure how to create the spreadsheet to do this. RPI? ELO? Help!?!

Alright.. now I have to set up to play 2v2 live. Don't own a GENS, or a 4-way adapter, or have enough controllers, or a 2v2 cartridge. Any advice here? Will one of those newer GENS models suffice, or does it have to be old-school? There were/are 3rd party 4-way adapters - is the SEGA branded one better for any reason? As for the cartridge - I think I'd lean toward the everdrive, but it is costly. Since we're talking about 2v2, has anyone ever had a 2nd player on the same emulator? Cheers.
