  1. This may be a stupid question, but can the ASW and ASE teams be added to this or any other 30 team ROM, or is

30 the maximum number of teams?

I've been looking but can't seem to find an answer to this question, so would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

  2. I would like a team to always have their HOME color uniform, when playing either as Team1(home) or as Team2(visitor).

To have a special ROM where you see the Red Hawks, and Blue Blues, playing each other, would be pretty cool.

I see in NOSE, there is a STRIPS menu, so I guess I want to copy the Team 1(home) uniform to also be in the Team 2 slot. Is this possible? and is there a simple way to do it?

To avoid causing a mess, I want this special ROM to just 2 teams selectable: CHI, and STL.

I realize, I have to somehow put CHI and STL at the top of the

    team selection using a HexEditor?,

and then use EARE to just make the top 2 teams selectable.

I would really appreciate any help with this.

    Thanks.

  3. Magnificent JOB!!

I just was wondering , can you add the Y button goalie control, and a few other minor things like

    trapezoid lines and stick tape?

Otherwise one of the best ROMs I've ever played on!

Wondering why my post was ignored. Anyway, I did it myself to both the first Skip Rom(at the top of thread),

and the Update #1 Rom. I just redid them to correct the checksum error.

    NHL94.2015(SkipUpdate1,cksum).binNHL94.2015(Goalie+Sprite patched,cksum).bin

Could you at least tell me if all the other patches, like Wt.Bug Fix, and C-B bug fix, have been applied?

  4. In order to edit the uniforms for the rom, you need to download a program called NOSE v 1.2b. Here's a link to a thread explaining what to do:

    http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/14217-nose-12b-download/

Once you have it downloaded, it's a piece of cake to edit the uniform colors. And because the "EA" logo is at center ice you don't have to worry about it messing up on-ice colors.

There will be a "special edition" version of this rom though coming out soon with center ice logos, and players cards. :)

    Thanks for info.

Can't wait for you next "special edition" with all the center ice logos!

  5. I can't seem to find my posts for my Even Steven hacks. Have they been deleted?

I'd like to redo them, but need the sequence of what I did (since I can't remember).

This time around, I'd like to have different values of characteristics for each line (where each corresponding line will be identical for each team).

    For example: SC1, PK1, PP1 all 100%

    SC2, PK2, PP2 all tweaked down from 1st lines

    CHK tweaked down from SC2

So when playing in a tournament where Line changes are on (and therefore player fatigue becomes a factor), it will be more challenging for the participants. But everything is still identical for each team (hence Even Steven).

  6. Well the game is already at about half speed, the original was obscenely fast (play as the 97 All-Stars on All-Star and you'll see what I mean). Honestly the easiest way to slow it down even more is simply lower all the player speed stats which is very doable in NOSE (however I do find you get used to the speed fairly quickly). I'm actually hoping to be able to move this entire hack into NHL 98 at some point as it has a selectable game speed setting separate from the difficulty setting. Unfortunately I have yet to disable the 2 line pass, so that's my top priority.

As for things like the trapezoid, I do need to teach myself a bit more about tile hacking and reorganizing before that will be possible, but it is definitely a goal for the future.

The blue shadow is a tricky one, as its more of a palette issue than anything else, but it is something I plan to tackle at some point. My first goal will actually be to modify the AI a bit more. I don't like how when you touch the puck in your end they immediately run away, I'd love to get them to press the attack a little bit more.

I'll keep you posted on my progress with 98 though, because I'll be trying to implement most of those changes once I transition over.

Hey, thanks for considering my recommendations. It seems we are on the same page.

Perhaps you can make some (hopefully simple) modifications to NHL97, to accept existing NHL94 patches, such as the goalie control and trapezoids?

Thanks, I will look into modifying player speed stats in NOSE, as you suggested.

I am excited about your moving your hack to NHL98. Perhaps, once the speed is slowed in 98, even if you can't disable the 2-line pass, maybe the game will still be fun to play. It's the unfortunate small scale of 94 to 98, that ruins the 2-line pass.

I played NHL99 on N64 emulator, and since the rink scale was larger, the 2-line pass, was absolutely fine.

I also like the changeable Coaching Strategy in 98 (which is similar to FIFA), which may produce the offense pressing attack you mention.

Keep up the fantastic work! Can't wait for you next mod.

  7. Fantastic hack!

Here is my wishlist for some Visual changes, if possible:

    -Add trapezoid

-Modify face off circles to look like updated NHL94 does

-Get rid of the blue shadow under ref in face off icon

-Make ice the same color as NHL94

And is there any way you could add the Goalie control Y button?

Also, is there any way to slow the speed of the game even further? (I play Rookie level, and it is still too fast).

    Keep up the great work!

  8. Yep, that is about right.

I'm not sure what checksum Fusion checks.. not sure NOSE will fix it. I'm not sure of the effects of the incorrect checksum.. that might mean that if you put the ROM on a cartridge, it won't work.

Might want to try the 3 Stars update, except I'm not sure if the results are nice for periods longer than 5 minutes (but it's probably still better than the original rating scale..)

Great, thanks so much for your help.

In my experience, every time I open a rom in NOSE (that Fusion says has an incorrect checksum for), and resave it, the checksum error is gone.

I will try the 3 stars update. It should be good, since I only use 5 min periods and 5 min OT, anyway.

  9. No, just use smozROMv100. i should probably update that thread to say to use it instead of RatingsFix

    OK, thanks.

I just have a few questions while running smozROM.

Could you please tell me if the following are the best selections in order to make my ROM perfectly even teams and players with no hot and cold?

Do you want to include the weight bug fix? "y" or "n"? No

    Game Year? 1994

    Player rating scale? 6

Three Stars Scale: "y" or "n"? No

Edit Lines Ratings: Option 2. Disable the bonuses, so the players are the same every game.

I then hit "H" to apply changes and save as new ROM

However, after then I save, and play the ROM in Fusion, I get a "checksum is incorrect".

Should I resave in NOSE to correct this, or leave it alone?

  10. In my final EvenSteven hacks (see last two roms, on post dated 2-13-12):

    http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/13849-even-steven-mod-possible/

I copied the Halifax (Steven Snake) AllStar 12, maximum ratings for all teams, players, and goalies. So all teams have the identical maximum team, player, and goalie ratings.

When I go to the Ron Barr screen, the Overall team and individual player Advantage ratings are all equal (=99), despite some numbers still having "Hot" or "Cold" under them.

So, in my Roms, is the hot/cold bug fix, you mention here, still necessary?

  11. I wouldn't be surprised if wboy (creator of NOSE) knew roughly how to do this, but he doesn't come around here anymore.

No hooking penalty.. that would create the worst vs experience ever!

Wow, sorry to hear that wboy doesn't frequent this forum anymore. I use his NOSE program quite a bit, in addition to your smozROMv100, and also EARE.

Well I am just trying to make the penalties simpler and more predictable.

For example, run into the goalie, and you get "interference",

hit C against an opponent who has the puck, and make him go flying, and you get "roughing" or "crosscheck",

hit A against an opponent who has the puck for too long, and you get "holding", and etc.

Slashing, charging, tripping, and hooking, all seem, at least to me, to be more random and unpredictable.

  12. I was wondering if it is possible to eliminate certain penalties.

    For example, I want to keep offside, interference to the goaltender, roughing and holding;

but want to get rid of Slashing, Hooking, Tripping, and Charging.

The only way I can figure out to do this, is with NOSE, under RULES, to change the time

for penalties I don't want, to zero penalty minutes.

However, during the game, the play is stopped and the penalty is still whistled, and there is a weird tile pic for a second, then back to face off.

Is there any way to completely eliminate any specific penalties, so game play is not stopped?
