  1. but 6 5 skating is definitely better than 5 6 skating imo

6 5 skating gives you all kinds of agility to deke precisely in close quarters, while still giving you great speed. 5 6 skating is faster for sure, but considerably sloppier when it comes to any stop up, turn, or start. Even 5 5 skating is better than 5 6 skating in my books because its more agile aka gives you more skating control. 5 5 vs 5 6 I'm probably in the minority though.

So while bure has yzerman beat in the speed department, i cant really count that as a plus cuz imo yzermans skating ability as a whole >>> bures

It's cool though that there are so many different opinions on such important game matters. I like that we disagree fpb, you know, different strokes for different strokes and all that stuff

  2. I really like this idea and list

You could say the tiers are like:

    Tier 1: Superstars

    Tier 2: Flawed Superstars

Tiers 3 and 4: Superflawed Superstars

I lump tiers 3 and 4 together because I personally think both Oates and Laf def belong in the tier below. I think it should just be 3 tiers but I totally respect other opinions as its subjective.

Ill post my updated version of this list with my personal choice changes, but overall I really agree about the "big 18."

  3. its one of the worst aspects of nhl94 when you think of it, because everything else is mainly under your control and has strategy to it.

That would actually be one of the best hacks ever, if someone could find a way to make faceoffs skill-based. Including both a rock-paper-scissors aspect to it, as well as accounting for timing.

New nhls have that, where i can win the majority of the faceoffs against almost everyone I play, but when i run into a top top player I can be cleaned out in the dot cuz theyre able to switch handedness at the last second and still time the right draw back choice

Thatd be really cool to have in 94!

  4. plabax claims that theres an rps mechanic to faceoffs, but he never goes into full detail because hes full of bs lol

in my ancient experience my gut used to tell me that trying to win the faceoff back to your dmen has a higher % chance of you winning the draw than if you try to win it to a winger.

this is just my own theory, but when i play i always try to win it back to a dman cuz I feel like I win more that way. It kinda makes sense imo in a way realism-wise, as I feel like winning a draw to a winger would take more finesse irl than winning it back to a dman. I feel like you dont need to be as accurate.

Mashing C off the faceoff seems less consistent as well

  5. I agree about chicago brutus, and trudat zeppelin LA gets way better. Still hrudey in net tho, I could never win with that team lol

In my books detroit is still the best team in wbf. Yzer Cicc and Feds can still dance and snipe on anyone. Sure they do take a bit of a hit in the wbf world, but their skating and shooting stats remain stronger than the competition

Actually, sorry, it is a Plasma TV.  Would that have delay, too?

And yes, I always feel it is not rock solid like playing on a Genesis, but figured that was the nature of  "emulation / internet" and now (I guess?) my TV?  Well, if nothing else, I have an excuse for being a career B level guy? :P

But seriously, I play on an LG 50PV400 Plasma TV. Does plasma lag, too?  (I am googling now!)

In my experience plasmas are pretty solid input lag wise, at least my old one is. Still though I highly doubt it would be as responsive as a gaming monitor. To me emulation on my old windows xp pc with an old monitor feels totally as responsive as a genesis. On the cpu I used to play 94 with it was a laptop with its own screen, and it was solid but not perfect

tldr: plasmas seem quite good input delay wise but id bet $$ that its not as responsive as a gaming monitor. I could be wrong tho! Trust google info more than tomkabs info

  7. i dont think theres a way. As much as the 94 playing foreigners have fun personalities and add a lot to the community, its always a buzzkill to have to play eurogames. The extra delay totally changes the way 94 feels, and it especially hurts reactionary player styles.

In my opinion theres nothing you can do about it, because even in nhl 17 euros arent allowed in the most competitive hut league. People from NA only really play NA opponents, and euros only really play euros, cuz there is just too much delay. I can say this with confidence because nhl 17 is on new consoles and doesnt have p2p lag issues like 94, yet this is still the case

But I havent played 94 in years so dont listen to me lol

  8. Hmm that seems strange cuz im almost positive i always aim up diagonal for most floaters. I see what youre saying tho, they do look like theyre on the ice. Maybe its just the way it looks? Cuz shooting low with floaters is wack

As for your question Kurt, im not sure there's a better way to show them other than with a program that shows your inputs or something. Goal methods in 94 are a feel thing, as you can see in that vid all floaters are mostly the same, just slight variances in angle/speed/timing/whatever. You cant emulate those goals? Make sure youre using a player with at least a 4/4 shot or else it won't be very consistent

  9. hmm one thing depch, i dont think it makes sense to call people 'non b check players.' B check is an essential tool required to be good at 94 (at least in the pre cb days). To me thats like playing rock paper scissors and saying youre a non paper player, never playing paper lol.

The b check was put in the game for a reason, so you have a way of defending a player that you are unable to check with the guy youre controlling. Cuz this game was designed with a weight fixed world in mind, without the b check this game would have had no balance.

You all have lots of great points in this thread, im just here to say that i dont think it makes sense for players to consider themselves non b checkers

  10. Much love to you all for coming to my aid

Raph - That's good to know actually, cuz that means it's not just an Acer issue. I think you're right now, def not processing power.

Smoz - Thanks for confirming that it's not video memory. You're right, it must be a compatibility issue. But then again, I just did test some other emulators. I tested zsnes, and snes 94 looked a bit choppier than normal. I'm not very familiar with that game though, so it maybe it's not so bad, but def a bit worse than normal. I also tested nestopia and tester the original mario bros. It played alright, but definitely not quite perfect. There seems to be a bit of tearing or something when the camera is scrolling, also just not quite totally right otherwise. This is my main issue with how 94 runs, when the camera pans it's super choppy.

I took your advice and tried changing power settings to performance, didn't make much of a difference (or one at all). I also tried running it using both the nvidia graphics processor, and the integrated one separately, nothin.

Depch - Yeah maybe I'm just gonna have to buy an old pc to play this game. But the thing is, if this one can't run even a nes emulator properly then it's junk imo. I tried using all different kinds of combinations of compatibility settings, nothing fixed it. I think you're probably right about it being an OS issue, I could try installing windows xp, but honestly I tried that on my last laptop and almost broke it lollllll.

Ive never tried a more modern game, but as long as it's not too new I'm pretty sure it'd run alright

All in all, this has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth with this pc. Maybe I'd be smarter to buy a desktop anyway. Eh who knows, I'm the most indecisive man on this planet. Anyway, thanks again for the help everyone.
