  1. If there is an ingame momentum it's meter could be the crowd. Would like to know what contributes to that and is it always in favour of the home team. But one thing I dont get is that how it could affect lefties and righties differently unless there is a bug involved.

For Mikey I understand the need to protect an investment to make us wait for the release, but I think majority of the active adults on the forum with income will support your product regardless was the information released or not beforehand. This is not meant as offensive, just my view and I do understand why to struggle with that decision.

  2. Hot & Cold is the main culprit. In GDL, I know all my players' avg ratings, check them before every game, religiously. When players are very cold and you have several of them out there, their agility and speed are severely affected and noticeable. Especially when you're talking about guys in the 4 rating range and lower, the drop-off in ability is even greater, but so is the boost they get when they're red hot. I would know, I'm known for my love affair of of non-elite players in the average range. But it's a love-hate relationship. When they're very cold, their skate takes a big nosedive. Also remember, agility and speed are closely related so when they BOTH take a hit, you get the sluggish, skating-in-sand effect. I have no tolerance for it. If a guy is really cold, he isn't seeing the ice under for me. Those who don't notice these effects are simply not very perceptive enough/oblivious. Or their playing style of skating it primarily with their superstar means they just aren't paying attention to what their other guys are playing like....because those other skaters don't have the puck.

Smoz has showed that the home boost increases shot accuracy in classic. I don't notice any difference in performance in home/away in GDL in regards to skating though.

If you think guys are sluggish in a given game, check their ratings and compare it to their average ratings. You'll see it's no mystery why they feel like they're wearing cement boots.

No, this is not what I'm talking about, maybe you've forgotten the game where I especially approached you about the sluggishness you had, because it was so visible even to the opponent. This would be controversial to my home records in classic as well where you can't check the true values since they are masked (and remember my teams have had advantage 2 at home, it should affect the awarenesses at least as well), but this one game I was talking about was in gdl exi I think.

  3. Well, this ^ wasnt meant as a showstopper for this. But over a 40 game season you win possibly a couple of more wins than you are supposed to and the wings record shows that roster plays a way bigger role. It would be nice to know what the effects truly are for it does exist and I would support eliminating the effects on a modified rom league like gdl, I dont think the effects are gone by just adjusting the sliders or if then all effects should be "weak" afaik brutal was not applicable to all.

As for my own record I have had the hunch/feel that my home games feel "heavier" to play with and have experienced more sluggish games there. Seth knows what I am talking about when I once noticed his players skating on a porridge (opponent can basically skate around you then, but that bad stuff only happens against some players, but there are games where the connection/controls are not equal while more rare). So my record can somewhat be explained with that maybe? But I have always enjoyed playing down more than up as well.

  4. It does explain why nhl hockey (based on 92-93 season, which I kept equilevant to nhl94) and nhl95 (based on 93-94) are so similar to sega versions. Just that I think that the pc versions spun off from nhl93 because there is no manual goalie and nhl95 got a major change in rink size, which is why I prefered nhl hockey and thus like the sega nhl94.

If there was a way to play online head to head on pc versions, it could be worth a try, especially if manual goalie could be ported in. But untill then I see the sega nhl94 reign supreme (especially since it brings players of two different platforms together).

  5. It does not seem much in a regular season, but that swing game can turn an even playoff series.

I Have different results with my teams.

    Stl home 16-4 away 16-4

    Mtl home 9-9-1 away 13-6

    Bos home 14-6 away 16-4

Just take team advantages in to consideration when picking team if it is a huge deal to some. It does not show in my results with all teams being 2/1. :)

  6. I am all about what plabax is saying, I made the call for static in classic too and used some of the same arguments, but perhaps classic should just be as it is. In an ideal world everyone could choose their own team strenghts to fit your playing style, its even since everyone can max out, but its for another league. I would probably not max out on offence, no clue does it really affect anything, but this because my poor play in gdl.

Excellent news btw. the ping averages 15-20ms lower from here to N.Y. (85ms when it was around 105ms) this will make many frame 5 games to 4 and some 6 to 5. Now I just need to get the flat and a computer.

  7. Theoretically yes, I'm starting a work in poland at 11.7 so I should have a flat and internet by 1.8, but it is still uncertain thus I stated end of august in the other thread. Draft I could do with my pad surely. Yet there surely is a wait list as well not having played in the past 2. Have to think about it.

  8. Zalex.. 0-5 vs Raph, 0-3 vs me in draft leagues, kicks our ass in classic

Flasox.. never been to GDL finals, multiple classic titles and finals appearances

Depch.. two finals appearances, destroys Icestorm and Raph but nothing in draft leagues

Frey.. 2x survivor champ, 2x gdl, 3x blitz, loses to flasox in classic

    ???

I have been thinking of this as well, because draft leagues the feel for team behaviour is very different for me. In classic the teams just do what I expect them to do most of the time, it is hard to explain and nothing definite, but definately feels like an AI thing.

I managed well in a blitz type cup vs raph as well, but it was not a draft, more like spend points for players, but in blitz draft leagues I have gotten my ass wiped always as in GDL. Frey dropped in the first round there btw. huge surprise and Labs went on a ride, another one! Maybe its just psychology, but it is a thing.

I have been on a rollercoaster for the past 6 months, will settle in to Poland most likely during the summer and stay there for 6+ months so will be up for fall classic and propably next gdl as well if the wait list allows and it does not start untill late august or so. Theoretically pings should drop as well due to geography, but you never know with the eastern European countries.

  9. Maybe a 20 team league is for the better overall. Maybe have a bye for A guys to step in regardless, so they don't have to wait. Some seasons it might be 22 teams, some 21. Some it's exactly 20 teams. Does that really matter, some inconsistencies in games played if the number is odd, but nothing too bad.

20 teams locked and reserve for A guys to add it up to 24 max.

Voted for traditional way, how it's been.

I would like to have a league of static+no penalties+play like classic but just not GDL.

Also the "even though this does play with a different feel to it" on vote number #3 is subjective. For me it does not feel any different in the game, the game feels the same. It might create a placebo effect for people that are aware of it and are not that open to change for the classic style. Stating it on the poll creates an enforced view towards it to begin with.

  10. I am a keyboarder.

Background for it: My background for games are mostly from PC and I used to play old NHL games with keyboard vs my friends who then used gamepads, it's all I've ever used. That translated directly to genesis emulator then once swos & guys rejuvenated some nhl94 magic via it. I have some experience of NES :D & Xbox360 gamepads (was quite comfortable with x360 pad some years ago).

Regarding possible advantages: I think the advantage in keyboard might be that it's more accurate for butterfingers for sure if you have a tendency of making mistakes on directions with your thumb, it will not happen in keyboard. Some keyboards might have a better polling rate than some gamepads, but some might have worse. If you have a poor keyboard, you can find plenty of information how you can try to make it more responsive, this is common knowledge in FPS games and their competitive side. The differences are in milliseconds though, so is it really noticeable. Other than that I think gamepad will do exactly what a keyboard can do in experienced hands. Keyboard movement can be noticeable how turns are a bit more edgy and gamepad is more rounded in general (example: keyboard you can do top - left turns without doing top and left at the same time easier and with thumb on pad you round it up via top-top left-left).

All in all, the differences are not that big and use whatever you are used to. What matters more is your playstyle, this is not a game where the better deker can achieve much advantage in my mind, TK can disagree. :)

It's also easy for everyone to experiment playing on keyboard.

Afaik: AJ used to be a main keyboarder but switched to gamepad, so he might have good input on that. Many have tried translation to new system but it takes time and is not easy, just ask swos who has used gamepads to practise for possible future KO94 events.

  11. Do you really think Freydey would have been able to take me with a team that had more speed, agility, stickhandling, AND shooting power/accuracy than my GDL 12 team? I mean, I traded away Lemieux and Bradley and ended up replacing them with Gretzky and Cullen (I didn't even know his attributes until the league was over). Not only that, but my defensemen and my goalie were better in GDL 13 too.

Aside from replacing someone, I have only lost two playoff series, and they both come from me having poor GDL teams. I have never lost with a good team (6-0), and I have never won with a mediocre/bad one (0-2).

Speed suits Freydey well (I actually think he couldn't win with a max 4 speed offence like you can). Yes you had better team this season than last one, but maybe not enough. I know it's more about the tools your team has than what the opponent has to what it takes to play well, so maybe it would've been enough. With his speed I still would've put him as the favourite on 7 game thrill again (you have never actually won GDL when Freydey has played it). We will never know, I know you have the talk and the ability to walk it as well, but in the end it's all mumbo jumbo and speculation now.

  12. Updated

Plabax joins double gold club in GDL and ties the statistics with kgman for top place, congratulations for that. There are now 4 players with 2 championships - kgman,Plabax, Freydey, swos. I had Freydey as the favourite for this season to grab his third, but he had to drop out so it was all Plabax who I had as a second favourite with his team. Is anyone gonna stop Plabax from grabbing his third to become the first ever on GDL to do so?

Also on players Moog seems to be a real standout in the goalies category. 4 championsips while the others have 1 at tops. Will this affect his draft position?

Also win percentage without a speed 5 player drops even lower. So far only these two coaches have done it without speed 5+ guys.

    GDL 4 AngryJay

    GDL 7 Carse

    GDL has a 2/13 = 15.4% win percentage without a 5 speeder on team.

  13. 1. Spring 2014 did not happen indeed, don't know about fall 2008

    2. Carse no clue, some players might have contacts to him, sometimes you just need some time off from games but eventually might return I was 5+ years of not playing the game also.

    3. CB and nullifying the importance of lower weight came to being around GDL 11 by Plabax and his Nashville, this was in summer 2014. This has impacted the game a lot. Low weight is still great, but defensive aspect is different and more players are serviceable. GDLXI stats from here http://nhl94online.com/html/standings.php?lg=18&sublg=GENS. CB did not immediately have a wide spread impact, for example I only picked it up during GDLXII draft and testing then, which was late winter/early spring 2015.
