how did you get that close to Hokkeefan without him smashing your recording device?
-
and give the other versions some tries, too. the PC game is amazing and weird, similar to '92. the Sega CD version is like the Genesis version but playable. play them all before you develop too much of a preference. and, yeah, they are different enough that you should find a preference fairly easily.

some drama?! that is a huge understatement. the Genesis side is so full of drama that they are probably all bent out of shape about the simple declaration of that fact.
skating: Sega is loose and slippery, Nintendo is precise and responsive
shooting: Sega has powerful slapshot goals, fivehole goals and razor-thin posts, Nintendo is... uh... different from that
scoring: Sega is an arcade shootout more likely to get a blowout, Nintendo is a little bit more competitively balanced
defense: Sega might as well not have goalies, Nintendo has goalie and defense control buttons and subsequent actions
actions: Sega can do just enough, Nintendo has buttons and actions galore
emulators: Genesis emulators aren't very good for a variety of reasons, Super Nintendo emulators are nice
following: Sega has a lot more enthusiasts, Nintendo has a much less intense following
hacking: Sega hackers have more abilities and more discoveries known, Nintendo has a lot left to do
polishing: the Genesis release was rushed out with errors galore, the SNES cartridge fixed most of that stuff
feel: Genesis is a quirky hockey-like game, SNES is more of an NHL simulation

maen, you've got to enjoy the losing. you know you are good and that you enjoy winning, right? try to win, of course, but really enjoy the loses that prove it's possible to lose and that even though you are good, the match is not foregone without chance. I like to lose.

yeah... like with any support request, we need to know the factors. your profile says "any system." I can help with SNES, most can help with Genesis, very few can help with the other versions. if you are using a cucumber, switch to a controller and an emulator, as they will give you a better response.

the first post has an updated ROM. lines are set to current -- with one player added -- and the menu has been set with the final teams defaulting. please let me know if you have anything to report.

so I would "only" have to:
-download a jailbreaking application, an emulator, a game file and a "channel"
-connect a camera to my computer
-get the necessary files onto a magical card large enough to hold them yet under a certain capacity threshhold by making the camera somehow deal with non-jpg/-movie files
-learn to use the Wii for actions other than getting discs in/out and playing the games on those discs
-probably a few more steps at this point, but my concept of what a "channel" app does is not really anything
-profit?
or I can just play on the actually "easy" emulators on a very portable laptop with multiple USB controllers and a good screen. it'd be cool to have it on the Wii, sure, but not to the point of making the above fantasy sequence of events actually happen.
-
I'd still need some sort of memory card and adapter, neither of which do I have, so "five minutes" is quite far off.
-
wow. that requires so many factors to fall into place. that is not happening in this home without an intervention. the Wii is lame enough without the fact that you need a Best Buy's worth of gear ready to go and the brain of a preteen to think that's "easy and straightforward" and get the thing running whatever the fuck "channels" are. the Wii was lucky it was free or it'd be running only Sports/Resort with duct tape over the slot preventing further frustrations. what a clunky gizmo that thing is. the fact that a fucking GameCube controller somehow supposedly improves the system is a very telling aspect of its miserable existence.
I'm open to offers on:
-Cursed Mountain
-Family Party
-GoldenEye
-Happy Feet Two
-MarioKart
-Medal Of Honor Vanguard
-Rec Room
-RedSteel
-Tiger Woods 08
-WipeOut

this laptop from 2011 doesn't have such a slot. this may be an "old dog" problem, so don't worry any further on my account. thanks.
-
not two whole words of that made any sense to me and I don't have America Online. thanks, though.
-
so... I'd need the Wii to be connected to the Internet somehow, right? and I'd need some sort of memory card to be read by a computer other than the Wii and the audio recorder that uses things like those, right? the Wii is the most cumbersome and confusing gadget I have ever owned. none of using it for discless action makes the first bit of sense to me. this whole topic goes way over my head and makes me angry, try as I do to grasp what the fuck y'all are trying to impart.

ah, yes....
"momentum" killer versus the still intangible drastic attribute boosts in SNES 'Chel, allowing things like a Roadrunner-speed Bawa....I've always considered it to be fair to make a substitution after being scored on, yet I think it's moderately lame if it's only a delay to kill the crowd factor(s).
so: somebody should type out a form list for onlag players to fill out and share with each other. something like this:
tru - SNES '94, Genesis '92 - all options on - 20min
goalie disruption of faceoff = cool
goalie disruption of penalty shot = not cool
stand-back-up button use = cool
pausing for disruption of play = not cool
pass shot = coolpausing during active-clock gameplay = not cool
pausing without puck = not cool
pausing without timeout nor substitution to kill momentum = not cool
substitutions during periods = cool
keepaway = cool
mercilessness = cool
trashtalking = cool
throwing your controller and/or glitching the system/game = not cool -
I don't understand that last chart, but I like this thread.
it's a great game. I can't think of a single better Genesis game. I love that people are passionate about it.

wait for it... don't blow your wad... keep waiting....

it's likely that your fourth line
is well rested and ready to play
the last shift of the powerplay
while your other lines recover

likely coming soon:

is the newest version the one linked from the http://www.nhl94.com/html/editing/edit_smc.php page? that page is very much outdated, so I wonder.
hey, Chaos, how would you feel about linking to both this whole forum section and the ROM mapping thread from that nhl94.com page? that could bring it into this decade, at least.

I did a Genesis hack once that changed the player physics to be more like the SNES version. I love that they have those options. it'd be great if somebody figured out some SNES skating physics hacks and some alteration of the fatigue and rest rates, too. those shouldn't be too hard, seeing as it's stuff that's already been done by the other side.
I've really toned down my Genesis bashing because they can't handle it. they started with that version and can't see beyond it, like folks that accept their parents' religions. they get WAY bent out of shape about some simple trash talking, which I truly believe is an important component of the game.

word. thanks for doing the thing that people wanted. this place is much better since you joined and I appreciate it. big thanks go to Cainer, too. it's really nice that people care about the SNES version and furthering our understanding of hacking it.
I played this thing as ANA against NYR last night and it was excellent. I really like the way the AI teams play with high ratings and a variety of player "personalities." the way I do the overall ratings right now is really working for the skill ratings; there isn't as much lowering of the ratings needed to achieve the range of overalls that we've got now. for everybody but the serious scrubs -- of which there are very few -- the low end of the overalls can be achieved almost entirely by dropping the offense and defense drives, giving us a nice spectrum of individual players. they seem like people in their uniqueness and they fit into teams very well without the constant reminder of exactly who has the puck. I'm very happy with this and I'm glad y'all are finding the many errors because I'd very much rather it be a polished product without mistakes that could ruin the immersion and accuracy factors.
I haven't checked for this round: have the playoff brackets held up or do either of the conferences need reordering?
-
what are the differences with the PAL version?
-
that and bias could be just edited in, for sure, even if it is just some tip text pretty much anywhere so people know. anyway, great program -- I'd have paid for it if I had to. I hope it gets any sort of work because that would be cool. we have more stuff mapped since this last editor and a nice interface of those options would be great for the SNES hacking pulse around here. you could have the defense control default and stars and arrows and numbers and position....and ideally a display of player overall ratings.

I used to do multiple per season, but I doubt I'll get back to that. I'd love to have one for like right after the prospects filter out of the lineups because it has more longevity for the period during which it feels current. y'all helping out makes it more likely, so thanks for what you have done so far and any other assistance you may offer.....What are your thoughts on doing a roster update for the start of next season?
Best version to play with ?

yeah, in SNES "the move" is totally the move. go right for the goalie at pretty much any angle. on your way there, try to switch the puck from one side of the player to the other and fake the far side last, tucking it in or shooting it or letting the crash slide the puck in on the short side for the goal. read that again:
-skate at the goalie
-move the puck from one side to the other
-fake far
-do nearly anything short
now, against a human, you will probably need to know how to fake short and shoot far to get the move to work because the regular way is expected. a lot of players don't even use "the move" because it is too basic, but it will get you goals, especially the standard way against the AI.
