Teemu proves he is now fully aware that the season has actually started, as he explodes for six goals and an assist. He scores a natural hat trick in the first, as he scores goal one unassisted 31 seconds in, then another from Zhamnov and Numminen at 1:56, then his third at 2:03 again from Zhamnov. Zhamnov then gets a goal of his own from Davydov 10 seconds later. Zhamnov and Selanne team up again to get Phil Housley a goal at 3:52, and then Teppo Numminen, getting his first start of the season, joins in on the fun, assisting on Selanne's fourth of the period at 4:50. Alex Mogilny breaks up the shutout quickly as he scores from Hawerchuk and Fuhr 43 seconds into the second. The Jets spend the whole period in the penalty box, and no more goals are scored in the second. Selanne finally makes it back onto the ice at the start of the third after being taken off of penalty killing duties, and shows how happy he is by notching another goal 12 seconds in. Pat Lafontaine then scores at 1:15, as Fuhr adds his second assist, small consolation for the 7 goals he gave up on 16 shots. Selanne ends his rampage at 1:34 of the third, on another assist from Numminen. Numminen himself then adds the final goal of the game on a penalty shot at 4:27.
