Hardware

Controller, Consoles, Cables, etc

  1. Started by smozoma,

This subforum is intended to house reviews and guides for hardware. Some examples: Controllers Imitation consoles (SNES classic, etc) Upscalers Wires/cables How to play on other devices (phones, modded xbox, etc) So that we can get some apples-to-apples comparisons, we should develop a consistent rating structure. Here are some ideas for where to start. I suppose rating things out of 5 is standard. Add whatever categories you feel are necessary. Controllers: Build quality /5 Responsiveness /5 Price/Value /5 Consoles: Accuracy /5 ??? Price/Value /5 ...

This is a common question. I don't have a Steam Deck, so I can't verify instructions. It would be great if anyone installing on Steam Deck could update these instructions with more details. On the Discord, a user explained it like this (paraphrased): Now.. I'm a bit confused here because the video shows Steam on Windows, not Steam Deck. But I think the idea of "install retroarch and all the DLC" translates. Here is a different guide, "Full RetroArch Desktop on Steam Deck" and it includes how to access files on the Steam Deck (so you could place the ROM somewhere)

  4. (Oct 11 - 2012) Seeing as I'm providing very little substance to the Classic League C Division so far , and am thoroughly impressed by the professional website design and general attitude of this community - I feel like I should contribute something to you all (or to any newbs who are just starting out). The day you downloaded the GENS or ZNES emulator, you probably tried it out with whatever gaming peripheral you had handy - be it gamepad, joystick or keyboard. Perhaps you had an XBOX 360 or a PS3 controller that you could just plug into your PC/laptop via USB in order to satisfy your curiosity. Fact is, if you've downloaded any of the many brilliant NHL94 ro…

If anyone is looking to play emulators on Android phones or TV Boxes, try this out. Its what I use on my TV Box. They run about $11-$15 on eBay. Unfortunately they only last about 8 months but that's the disposable world we live in now.

  7. Genesis 3-button OEM controllers use a variety of different d-pad designs. I'm aware of at least four different types of d-pads. In the US, Sega released three different 3-button controllers, all with different d-pad designs. Sega also released at least one unique d-pad design for the 3-button sold internationally. I've collected all four versions of the 3-button controller. The following summarizes the different designs and how to tell them apart by the controller shell if you purchase any of them. First OEM model sold in the US. The dpad has a plastic nub inside that acts as a pivot point. You can pick it out by the red lettering. At least one top online player use…

  8. Started by kidswasted,

Does anyone have a recommendation on a handheld emulator they currently use that can store SNES and Gens games(and similar eras like NES)? I've watched videos on Youtube and read countless articles on them. There seems to be a ton of different options and opinions. I was looking at the Supaboy but it seems massive and I would like to play Gens games too. I'm looking for something with a decent screen size/quality as well as decent sound. Form factor comfort is a nice to have as well. Looking for something under $100 if possible too. Not sure if any of you currently use a handheld for on-the-go NHL.
