  1. A reminder that December 14th is the final day for the league. We will then hand out FFs and DNPs based on the rules from NHL94online.com.

Alongside the options to log the scores of played games from the "Schedule" hyperlink on your team/coach page are options to officially register your desire to schedule a game you've had difficulty completing. As long as there is at least one week left in the season, you can suggest a particular date and time via drop-down menu, along with a comment field where you can go into more detail (when you're available, working, etc.). The website will record the request, generate email notifications for your opponent and for the Admins, and post notifications on the website. (Halifax's note: I'm not sure if this feature was available for this season but you can still use the 'schedule a game' area to look for players).

Sorry, this feature is not available on the website. Please use the "Schedule A Game" forum to post your availability. The Admins will be looking at this forum to see who's been trying to get a hold of their opponents. It would be wise for coaches to post in that forum so if games don't get played those coaches won't receive losses.

Guys we're very close to finishing the season, so lets try to wrap it up this week. We've had a great turnout so far, especially on the SNES side which is good news. If you have any problems getting games in let us know. The more you guys communicate the better the Admins can make decisions.

Good luck the rest of the way!

  2. Hi Guys,

I want to apologize for not playing my games. Sometimes life really gets in the way, and the last month for me has been nothing short of hell. I give up for now, please find someone else to lead the pens to the cup....

Good luck to all of you....

    -Colin

    Legend,

Sorry to hear you've been having a rough time. Hope things go better for you, and really appreciate the post.

  3. I'd typically start with a forward lineup of Granato-Robitaille-Sandstrom for an all offensive explosion. I find this combo gives you a little bit of everything (speed, agility, offensive awareness, shot accuracy, shot power) but as mentioned by AJ/Smoz this team has plenty of options.

You can go with an all slapshot lineup of Carson-Kurri-Sandstrom which is fun. And yea, there's always Gretzky too though I don't normally use him. Oh, and there's even Millen and Donnelly for good replacements when none of the above are working.

On defense, it's usually Blake/Zhitnik. Every once in a while it's fun to put guys like Huddy, Chapdelaine in but I never leave McSorley in.

Hrudey is a liability on the team for sure, so there's times I will start Stauber. Fun team to play with though, RARELY have a bad/boring game.

  4. i have 30gms played at this point. but, im having computer issues and cant play for the next couple days it looks like, but i should be ready to go again by mid next week at the latest.

Ok, thanks for letting us know. Guess it wasn't a problem being you hit the mark already.

  5. Hey coaches,

I'd like to thank all the active coaches for keeping the pace thus far this season. You guys are making the season go very smooth. Let's try to keep it up to wrap up the season. Just a reminder, you need 32 games played by Monday November 30th.

Let's try to get a busy weekend of games going, though I know it may be hard with all the traveling over the next few days. If anyone notices coaches who disappear or are going to be away for some time, try to help us get informed of this type of stuff soon as possible.

Keep up the great work guys!

  6. Again, another team I'm a fan of in '94.

The "Constant Pressure" line is what I would typically use, though the 1 player who can be solid if someone is having a bad game is Lomakin. I've had games where a line of Lomakin-Eklund-Dineen/Recchi were crazy. It's rare I would put Lindros in, and I will almost never use Brind Amour.

On defense, I think it's almost a given to take Galley out (one of the worst starters in the game). Hawgood is the standard replacement, but don't underestimate Gord Hynes (also on Florida in Gens)! Well, at least for the non-adjusted ROM he's a beast with checking.

  7. Your Triple Threat line is exactly what I would typically use as well. Defense, I would always take out Gill for Macoun, and occasionally Rouse. Great stuff AJ. You're picking all of my favorite teams first.

Smozoma, thanks for providing the Weight but analysis for each writeup. I like hearing how each team has been affected by it.

  8. Just something I'd like to share, and Smozoma pretty much explained it in his post:

It's totally true that a player considered "cold" could actually have slightly higher stats then their base. What's funny is, between the guys I play with we would tend to keep the "cold" players in and take the "hot" players out because more times then not it seemed the "cold" player was better. This was before we even knew about editing the game, so cool that it has some sort of logic behind it.

To be honest, I don't look at ANY ratings or streaks before a game. Just go with my gut feeling.

  9. Loving the reviews so far, just haven't had much time to read them through or reply. Finally had a chance to read through this one.

This is a team that grows on you, and is one of my personal favorites. The only player I would add as someone worth trying for chemistry is Lee Norwood on defense. Typically I replace Butcher with Norwood at the start of the game. His ratings don't show off anything special, but for some reason he works well with the forward combo's that AJ mentioned above.

As mentioned, the lack of speed requires strategy elsewhere mainly in the passing/shooting departments. You can't expect to find yourself on many breakaways, though Emerson manages to break free sometimes. With Shanahan-Hull on the wings, you can go for the blueline slapshot mainly when skating North with either of them (keeping the shot on the ground). This works a decent amount of the time (going through the goalie's legs). I usually keep Emerson at center for bonus checking on faceoffs and in the slot.

  10. This is pasted directly from the NHL94online.com website:

    Desyncs

An untied, desync'ed game should be picked up from the point the game desync'ed. The score should be replicated by owners allowing each other to score, and then owners should skate around until the appropriate time remaining in the game to pick up play. The trailing player starts with the puck.

A tied, desync'ed game can be picked up from the point the game desync'ed in a similar fashion (the visiting team starts with the puck), but, if both players agree, the tied game can also simply be replayed from the start as a new game.

If two coaches disagree on a score of a game played, they should contact an admin to resolve the issue. If the admin cannot make a decision from the information given, the game must be replayed as if the previous game never happened.

Note: Desync'ed games are common, and often lead to coaches observing radically different game results. To avoid unnecessary confusion, watch for Desync messages in the Chat area of the Gens emulator, and pause the game if you see a problem. Contact your opponent over IM and coordinate a resumption of the game according to the above guidelines.

    Lag Problems

If a coach is experiencing lag such that gameplay is dramatically affected, it is his responsibility to speak up sooner, rather than later. A game that is flagged as unplayable by a coach in the FIRST MINUTE may generally be cancelled and replayed on another server or at another time at no penalty - as long as the coach is not trailing by more than one(1) goal. Otherwise, the rule of thumb is to suspend a lagged game and resume it from the same point in much the same way as outlined in the "Desyncs" section.

    From our point of view:

It would seem strange that Mav would have constant issues when being down in a game. When a few different users make the same complaint we have to investigate. Nonetheless, games should be played out according to the rules. Games should resume where they left off, and logged accordingly.

At this point in time, are there any unresolved games with Mav? If not, then lets just try to continue playing games and having a good time. If there's a problem with a game, pause the game and talk to your opponent. If you can't resolve a problem with your opponent please contact Chaos, Halifax, or me for assistance.

The Admins should know about any problems going on in the leagues, otherwise we have to assume it's going smooth.

Thanks and keep up the pace!

  11. Hey jaredagarlock,

Noticed you haven't posted on the forums since September 16th, and haven't played a league game since October 10th with only having 4 games played. Has anyone seen this guy around? Might be time to start looking for a replacement.

    -Evan

  12. i think im gonna give this a go, ill give it a few weeks as a trial and see how it all goes.

Evan, id like to request a seperate section to the forums for this topic so that all the teams can be accessed very easily and quickly, thanks.

Sounds good to me. Just let me know what you'd like to call the section (such as AJ's Corner) and I'm guessing when you click that forum you'd have 1 topic for each team?

    -Evan

  13. im talking to MILLERRRRR right now and he says his computer doesn't work which is why he's not able to play any games

Ok thanks for the update. Can MILLERRR post here to let us know what's going on with a computer setup? If he's going to be able to play we need to know before we have no choice but to replace him. If he needs any help we're here.
