  1. My own preference is 6 teams make the playoffs. Division winners are in (3), followed by next three best records. Top 2 seeds get bye. 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5. Followed by 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3. 1 vs 2 (assume high seed wins for clarity sake).

I know that only 6 teams make the playoffs -- if you wanted to expand to 8, take top 2 division records (6), followed by next 2 best records and eliminate the bye. 1/8 2/7 3/6 4/5 -- like the NHL.

10 teams would be top 2 division (6), followed by next best records for seeds 7-10. Seeds 7-10 would be wildcards that play first: 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9. Second Round becomes the 1/8 2/7 3/6 4/5, etc.

I think 10 should be the max (over 50% of teams make playoffs). The remaining 8 can play a "B" playoff.

Just my 2 cents -- I really am fine with whatever system ProBob comes up with as this is run by him and LA Robbie.

  2. Best of luck dude. As someone who also gets addicted, I completely understand. When Street Fighter II came out in the arcade, I nearly failed school that year because I cut classes so much to go play. Around the same time, I would also play Genesis like mad. Sure, '94 was a way to "de-stress" and relax...take breaks during homework or whatever, but I also knew I was kidding myself. I was playing too much.

Knowing that I can get addicted to games very easily, I never purchased another video game console. That was haaaaard when Playstation first came out! Lol. Anyway, fast forward to today, I've been enjoying '94 online these past few months and playing as much as I can. Fortunately I don't have homework these days, but my sleep is compromised and I'm wanting to find ways to play at work! While I have it under control, I know I have that same feeling I had over a decade ago when 94 first came out. Free time becomes time to play 94!

I'm sure a lot of people can relate to your post. Kudos to you and good luck in your quest!

  3. Something a little more elaborate then google. What made you think of '94 to google it in the first place?

I typed it on google and it existed. Great glorious glory.

simple i found this site by doing a google search for NHL 94 and that lead to an article that had a link to this site

    Good job guys.

  4. I was definitely feeling lucky after my improbable win against FPB -- down 5-1, tie it up with a few seconds left, crazy OT with both teams missing scoring chances, and finishing it on a SHOOTOUT, ending after the 6th or 7th person scores. Stings that it's Philly who did it, but good games all around, well deserved win by Philly -- tough D!

Now that the marker is off of me, we can focus on someone else....like say, Dcicon (4-0)? :)

  5. MTL VS NYR

    1 MTL Subban (Plekanec, Kostitsyn)

    2 MTL Subban

    3 MTL Plekanec (Cammalleri)

    1 NYR Dubinsky (Gaborik, Staal)

    4 MTL Gomez (Pacioretty, Pouliot)

    5 MTL Kostitsyn (Cammalleri, Plekanec)

    2 NYR Callahan (Gaborik)

    3 NYR Gaborik

    4 NYR Dubinsky (Gaborik)

    5 NYR Gaborik (Callahan, Girardi)

    OT- No goal

    SO: Gaborik

    MTL 5 NYR 6

    confirmed

  6. This is not at all final, but here's my proposed playoff idea:

Top 2 teams in each division are automatically in. There will then be 3 3rd place teams. There will be two playoff spots left. This is where the controversial part sets in. We could either go by overall record (I think this method would be terrible, because the strength of schedule then plays a factor so the records don't necessarily show who deserves to get in), or we could do kind of a 3 team playoff series, if you will. Each 3rd place team has to play both of the other 3rd place teams. If all 3 teams go 1-1 in this little series, then it goes to goal differential. If it remains tied there, a one game playoff determines the final playoff spot.

So because this sounds confusing, here's an example:

Teams A, B, and C are the 3 who finish 3rd. So team A has to play 2 games, against team B and team C. Team A has a better regular season record then both, so he gets to play both games at home. He beats team B and loses to team C. So he goes 1-1. He beats team B 5-3, and loses to team C 9-1. His goal differential is -6.

    Team B, after losing to Team A 5-3, defeats Team C 4-3. He's 1-1, his goal differential is -1.

So therefore, team C has won 9-1 and lost 4-3. Like both other teams, he goes 1-1. His goal differential is +7.

In the end, Team C and Team B get into the playoffs because they had better goal differentials. Team A is eliminated. This is confusing, but in a perfect world, one team goes 2-0, one goes 1-1, the other goes 0-2, and the 0-2 team gets eliminated and goal differential doesn't play a factor. Lastly, if two teams both go 1-1, AND have the same goal differential, they play one game. Winner moves on, loser is done.

HOLY COMPLICATED! Just let me know who I gotta play -- I trust you. lol

  7. I feel like a marked man now! lol.

Not to get too far ahead (I know it's been a week!), but how are you handling the playoffs? I saw a post when we had 2 divisions of 8, but not 3 with 6. I'm assuming some aspect may be dependent on overall record in the league (ex: 3 division winners in, next 3 is best of league, etc.) so just to think about posting league-wide standings for all divisions in one forum, instead of 3 individual forums -- including overall standings for the 18 teams.

  8. I joined the forums a few years back, meaning I made one post regarding a GENS bug. I don't remember what prompted me to find NHL94.com, but I didn't come back until Halifax (Spambud) sent an email regarding the Spring'11 classic league. Intrigued, I signed up and started playing online.

I quickly became addicted as I did over a decade ago! I haven't played any hockey game past NHL'95, so to find out now that there's a competitive league of '94 players here is a mini dream come true. Now I just gotta master that damn pass shot....

  9. The only thing I remember for Genesis before '93 was NHLPA, which was technically '92. This was actually the first game I played on Genesis at at friends house and was HOOKED. By far the best hockey game that was out at the time, particularly because it had real NHL players and teams, which didn't exist before (to my knowledge). For me, I was coming from Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel on NES, and NHLPA was about 1,000 times better than those games. It wasn't long until I upgraded to Genesis. By the time I got Genesis, '93 was out, so I was much more familiar with the game.

I know there are subforums for the other year here (http://forum.nhl94.com/), on the bottom, but I haven't really looked myself.
