Hello, I just stumbled on this site by accident when I was trying to scrape my rom collection and it couldn't find the correct cover for NHL '94.  Wow I'm glad I did.  This looks exactly like what I'm looking for.

I haven't played in a long time but am looking forward to try and get in some games and possibly a league.  I think I've got everything setup correctly but still havent tried connecting to anyone.  If anyone wants to try and help out please send me a message.

I guess I should introduce myself.  My name is Mark but I go by Ozik in the gaming world.  I've owned all versions of NHL '94 and played a lot when it originally released.  We had a group of about 8 that played nightly tournaments for money back in our college days.  We all graduated a couple years later than we should've probably due to this game and Tecmo.  My favorite teams back then were Boston and Vancouver.

I played a couple games this weekend and was having a blast so hopefully I can relive a little bit of my glory days.  Please take it easy on me!  I'm on east coast time (Dayton, OH) so hit me up if anyone wants to play.

    Ozik

Hey Ozik, welcome to the community.  I think you'll find a lot of guys with similar stories around here about how they got started playing '94.  I stumbled across this site back in 2006 I believe (wow, that's been a long time).  There's a great group of guys here that are knowledgeable and always ready to help anyone out.  If you back to your fighting weight here (hey even if you pop in casually from time to time), you should definitely consider coming out to Las Vegas for the King of 94 tourney in September.  I had a ton of fun at the first one in Toronto back in Sep 2015.  Again, welcome and have some fun!

so I've been holding this in for awhile but I'm drunk and i don't give f**k! first of all this community all the in fighting is so f**kin dumb were a bunch of guys playing a video game that we are passionate about....these deadlines are all a joke....who gives a f**k play when u can and say gg that's all we should be doing.... even if takes a little longer within reason no reason to have an animated discussion about it ....and the fact that AJ is the center of this is ironic ..  since gdl 4 when i had to forfeit my series to ice.     because our connection desynced  and I wanted to get some pussy... but who cares I proved I was the BEST in person and I will always be the best as long as I live! and to uncle seth u dumb pos f**k ... I didn't get robbed of my winnings just my my bud and nhl94 cartridge signed by u guys which I wanted because of sentimental value.   I kept the money in my pocket u stupid clown ... why the f**k would u be happy  about it anyway.. i would slap u person just like in the game live if we ever played u f**kin loser ...so the point I'm making is the state of nhl94 is pretty s**t and  guys who b***h about Internet connection and picture in saskatoo need to chill and embrace the game that brought us together thank u

First of all, congrats to AJ... he is an amazing player and ambassador to this game and community.

I came here to post a new thread today and stumbled across this one excited to comment to congratulate AJ.  However, after reading further, I didn't realize there was this level of negative sentiment running in the community lately.  As playing a lot of FPS and knowing how toxic other online communities are, I've always bragged about this community as supportive and positive to anyone that will listen.  While I haven't been around, I always enjoyed that I could come back here and see what the group I consider closest to "home" is up to.

It's been a lot of the same faces consistently for over 10 years... that's pretty amazing and unique to itself.  How many relationships in your life can you say fall into that category? While I know we get under each other's skin from time to time and we've been around long enough to know exactly how to push each other's buttons, everyone here is in a very select and unique family.  It might not be the largest online community and it may not draw the most attention but everyone here is dedicated to one of the best games ever made and this is where that passion is shared.  This site has been created and maintained by people more dedicated than ourselves.  Out of respect to them and the continued pursuit to enjoy this game at its fullest, I hope that the fighting is simply competitive posturing and when push comes to shove, I hope we can all agree we have each other's back.

    3. Now I know I haven't been active lately but the NHL94 demographic has really shifted lately to a whole new audience.  I'm really happy Jenny was able to finally get her hands on the NHL94 strategy guide.

Please prepare yourself gents... I believe Jenny and Lisa will be top contenders by the time Kof94-2 rolls around.

  4. I believe I have the same one as Raph. It's awesome. Even the load times on the older version aren't bad at all so that's something to consider if there is a price spread b/w the 2. My one tip to potential buyers is make sure you buy the correct size SD card. I know, probably something most people know but I didn't realize there were different sizes until I bought mine last year. Good luck!

  5. Hey fellas, Thanks to my dad whose held onto a copy of nhl94 for over a year now, he was able to track down JR at a charity event to sign a copy of 94 for me... xmas came early this year!

Just to run this pic down for you from left to right:

    1. Signed Chelios puck from a '94 tourney that I won in Chicago in 2013

    2. My original copy of the first video game I ever owned -- Donkey Kong for Atari 2600

    3. A signed copy of NHL'94 by the man himself, Evan

    4. My newly signed copy by the beast himself, Jeremy Roenick.

I just wanted to share this pic in a place where I know it would be appreciated most!

Hope everyone is well these days!

  6. shining force still sells for $48

you can pick up nhl94 for 5 bucks...

Not complete in box you can't... or at least you would be lucky.

More likely around $10 for Gens complete.

SNES complete would be >$10 but shouldn't be any more than $15.

Actually, Sega CD complete I see selling around $8 pretty consistently.

However, I see copies for both Gens and SNES selling for north of $20 all the time.

  7. Only have the first Giga Wing, but I have played the 2nd, emulated, on NullDC. I like the way you can reflect bullets, but the scoring system is ridiculous (into the trillions) and really aggravating when there are so many coins on the screen along with bullets that it gets you killed.

Bought Cannon Spike years ago. It's short, as most arcade games are, and Capcom games from that era are mostly arcade ports from SEGA-Naomi hardware.

It feels like a mix between Forgotten Worlds and Smash TV, but without the twin sticks, if you've ever played those. Being able to play as Mega Man, Arthur (the knight from Ghouls 'N Ghosts) and other Capcom characters does extend the replay value a bit. The game is more valuable for it's limited print run than it is for the experience, but it's still a good game.

I bought Giga Wing last month... I feel I may have paid a little too much but it's difficult to come by these days. Looking to find a copy of GW2 but I'm not paying the going price of $250-$300 right now. I enjoy Giga Wing... more so than Mars Matrix which I found a little too difficult. I'm pretty much a schmups noob though. 1942 or Truxton is more my speed. ha

Great comparison for Cannon Spike with FWorlds and Smash TV. I purchased that game back in Oct or Nov... although it is short, I do like the other Capcom characters in the game. Not having twin sticks for that game is a big disappointment though... the game is perfect for that set up and I'm not a big fan of the DC controller. I ordered a pair of DC arcade sticks this week but they'll take awhile to get here from Japan. Hopefully I'll have a better gaming experience using those instead. If you have any DC reccos, let me know!

  8. That gameplay was emulated with the NullDC, Dreamcast emulator, and was probably captured with FRAPS. Resolution is crystal clear for emulated Dreamcast games. I might have been low on HHD space or something and perhaps I didn't record lossless AVI for that clip which is why it looks so crappy. FWIW, the emulator is more difficult to setup than something like Gens, but it's not that hard, and PlayStation as well as XBOX360 controllers work great with NullDC.

As far as capturing a signal from a Dreamcast: a VGA box is the way to go if you want the best quality picture on the original hardware, since the Dreamcast can do VGA natively.

Back to the topic at hand, here's the rest of my, way-too-long-list-of-other-all-time-favorite-games.

CWize, that list is awesome. I think we were cut from the same cloth when it comes to video game tastes. I've been trying to pick up a copy of Rez (J Version) for months now. I'm not ready to drop the >=$70 going rate at this point since I have it dl'ed to my 360 but I would love to grab a hard copy at some point. Have you played Giga Wing 2 yet? It's the last Capcom game I have to pick up for US DC and it's not coming easy... and I know it won't come cheap but was just wondering if it was a worthy title for the schmup genre.

Also, since you have a lot of DC experience just based on your choices on your lists... if you had the chance to play it yet, what do you think of Cannon Spike?

  9. Best tennis game of all-time IMO. There is a PC version, and I know it does have online capability, but I've never tried it (the iso is on PC Iso World or some site like that). Would be great to get some games going on here.

Here's an epic comeback I had years ago against Master.

I mean, it's not as good as Racket Attack on the NES but then again, what is. yeah right. Nice match there, Jesus... You are a true Virtua Tennis beast!

I don't want to hijack the thread here but speaking of the Dreamcast, what are you using to record your footage? Elgato Game Capture? Also, do you have any recommendations for a product to upgrade the resolution to HDMI? I've been doing some research, not sure if it's worth dropping $300 on something to do that but just looking for a trusted source like yourself that might know better. Thanks!

  10. Dang, don't remember, but I went to two different sites (google something like "Sega Genesis Complete ROM set")...one had each ROM individually, and one had it by letter folder (which was nice to organize).

Thanks for getting back, Raph. I checked out a couple sites last night but I'll keep looking around for the one that you said creates a letter folder. Once I locate it, I'll post it here.

  11. Get an SD card (16GB will fit every Genesis ROM ever made with room to spare...you can find sites where you can download all ROMs with one zip file), follow the instructions on the

Hey Raph, just setting up my Everdrive... what site did you use to download all Gens roms with 1 zip file?

  12. EA and his schedule kind of caused this albeit a replacement prolly should've been made last week.

It's a weird thing to say that my schedule caused this... If I am misunderstanding your point, then I apologize. However, I want to be clear that I posted my availability every week throughout the season, even updating my schedule numerous times in some weeks. It wasn't until the last week of the season that many people reached out to me looking for games. I can't help that no one was around to play earlier or were able to schedule on my thread, despite Brutus giving a heads up to the league that this would be the best way to get games in with me as well. Though, I still would have done my best to get all my games in this evening with everyone that reached out to me to schedule over the past week and weekend while I was out of town.

I wish I had the time to dedicate to playing NHL as I once did and I would love to play in the next GDL... I think the talent is at an all-time high and it amazes me that new techniques constantly surface in this 20+ year game. It’s hard to believe 94 is still evolving but that’s what makes this game so exciting. At the same time, I don't want to hold things up for everyone b/c obviously my schedule will be an issue for others. I know how annoying it can be when you're online and you can never find those last couple guys. With that in mind, I tried to remain proactive with my scheduling thread so that situation wouldn't present itself but unfortunately, it didn't work out the way that I had hoped.

Thanks Brutus for running the smoothest season I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of… Good luck to you guys the rest of the way!

These are the best. It is like 1990 all over again.

    The controllers are like new.

I now have 2 like brand new 6 button controllers and 8 like brand new 3 button.

    I highly recommend these.

Hey coach, I just bought a whole box full of busted up gens pads and I have the rubber pieces shown above. Did you reference any video in particular that helped you out the first couple times you were fixing your pads. By the way, I watched 1 vid and saw they added foil tape to the contacts... did you go that route by any chance?

  14. Most likely won't be available this week and leaving town Thu-Sun.

If you want to get games in tonight or tomorrow, I may be able to squeeze something in but can't promise anything.

If I am available to play, I won't be starting any series later than 830pm CST.

Might be available 2/29 for those who schedule on this thread ahead of time.

  15. I can be on tonight around 9:45 pm, or Saturday night around 9 pm, or Sunday early in the am or Sunday later on, like 8 pm 'sh.

Would love to know our games out.

I should just rename this thread "EA-Brutus Availability" since I think you're the only one that might check in here.

I may be around Sunday evening but it's doubtful at this point. I'll be looking for some games primarily from Mon-Wed of next week.

  16. Is it the standard Microsoft controller?

If so you have a couple of options:

    1. Use the analog stick instead of the d-pad

    2. Map GENS to the keyboard, and use a program like XPadder to program the d-pad.

Hey jer, thanks for getting back. It's an official Microsoft wired 360 pc controller. I've been using the analog stick and I lose a lot of control vs the dpad so that's I'm trying to figure this out.

I'm not even sure how to do anything you mentioned in #2 but I guess I can do some research to test it out.

  17. I bought a wired xbox 360 pc controller in hopes to use for NHL94... everything is pretty responsive except for 1 important thing... the dpad doesn't really work. The Up Down Left Right are slower to respond and the diagonals don't work at all. Obviously the movement is limited. Anyone out there have a solution for me?

  18. I was around early for me last night, but you had already signed out because no one else had been around :(

I didn't want to text you in case you were already in bed early or something.

Thanks Brutus, you've been really great about reaching out.

Man, I know everyone is always on later and I feel like I'm missing out on the party b/c I have to get offline so early. Wish I was back in the days where I had the time to play exis til midnight... and then jump over to play 2on2 with Habs, Jesus and VC til 2am. Ah the good ole days where practice was plenty and I didn't have to post lame availability threads :( :(
