  1. Sorry to stray away from the original topic, I'm not trying to hijack the thread. I just figured that people that play both would probably be viewing this and I was curious about my question for awhile now.

I asked simply for the reason that the gameplay is so different and I would be impressed if people were competitive in both versions and even played in both leagues. We have a couple coaches in the draft league who came from the SNES league and it seems like they're having some difficulty adapting to the gameplay in the GENS version. If Hokkeefan is as competitive in the SNES version as he is in the GENS, then I'm thinking he must be one of the few anomalies.

As for me, I know better, I never could make the transition to playing 95 GENS (which I've heard is more similar to 94 SNES) and then bring my normal game to the 94 GENS which is the version that I'm most comfortable with.

Maybe this is a bad comparison but it's like in college when I would play ping pong (mind you the version with massive amounts of alcohol that was consumed during play) and then within the next couple days trying to play tennis. Come to think of it, maybe it wasn't trying to play 2 different racket sports in such close proximity... it was probably because we incorporated alcohol into our tennis as well. Please strike this analogy from the records.

Yeah, I undersand what you mean. I think it comes down to what you feel is more important. If winning is more important, then stick to the system you know and keep playing at it to continue to get better. But if you're the type that doesnt care wether you win or lose and you just enjoy playing a lot of games (a la hokkeefan), then playing on both systems is your way to go.

  2. If that's true, then I'm doomed. I've almost played out all the bad players in the league and all I have to show for it is a 3-15-1 record with a frustrating pattern of losing twice every time I win once in a three game series. I really want to play pyl85, from what I hear it'll be three wins onto my record and I can make a run at the A playoffs.

I missed your point....you've already played 19 games....why would you say you are doomed?

  3. There are actually GENS players who turn to the SNES version as well? Lets call them Lost Souls.

Hal, I am curious though, are there a lot of competitive players on this site who go both ways so to speak?

well..the topic was more for fun then anything but to answer your question..the only one I'm aware of is hokkeefan...although The Deer has recently played a few exhibition games for the GENS....

  4. As far as I'm aware, Evan and company do not get paid to run this site. I'm interested to see how much interest there is of anyone who'd be willing to give donations towards this site do to the hard work they put into it.

I know they(admins) would never bring it up but I think their should be paypal set up on this site where we can leave a donation should we choose to do so...whatever amount 5, 10, 20 or more.

    thoughts?

  5. i think it would be fun to have a buy-in, 5 or 10 or 20 $ , all through paypal or something to 1 treasurer, and the winner takes 80% of it, and the runner up 20% . the pay-out structure can be argued.

that way, if someone drops out, no worries, we have their money and people will still be interested in claiming the top spot !

Not a bad idea...I'm sure there would be a few who'd be up for that.

  6. Agreed. No reason at all especially when the deadline was already announced and time was ticking.

And we all know Hokkefan is an iron man when it comes to playing games and is readily available.

Looks to me that the SNES B cup goes to a GENS player! :)

perhaps he needs a new title instead of GENS player...what's a good nickname for a super nintendo and genesis player?(I'll make a new topic)

  7. hey all... due to my landlord being a stupid ugly whore i am forced to move out by Tuesday afternoon :)

so there is going to be a delay on the videos, seeing as they take FOREVER to render and upload, i just cant take the time.... tomorrow is going to be hell as i try and move all my stuff... good thing is my new house is literally about 300 feet away.... still, how lame... what a b***h. i live in a deplux and she lives in the second part of the deplux.... her bedroom is connected to the wall in my bedroom.... so tomorrow morning at 8am im going to turn on my 2x10 line 6 amp, plug in my ibanez, and give that old twat a heavy metal breakfast :D

i also plan on taking all the light bulbs, leavin the s**t from my dog in the backyard, cutting the phone and cable wires, etc... you blow up on my mom and make her cry... no... you done messed with the wrong person... IM CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL....start with ACDC's thunderstruck...that will build the excitement

  8. that's a tough question...even if i have the lead i still try to make an effort and score and not play a game of 'keep away'...but on the flip side...I gotta give you kudos...if you're good enough to do that...you're not cheating in anyway and whoever your opponent is simply gonna have to figure out how to get the puck from you.

*Edit...I should add that if you are just playing an exhibition game....then it's probably not a good idea..but if its a play off or championship...then you do what you gotta do to win.

  9. The Deer,

You make a good point about nerves. Obviously skill has to do with outcomes but nerves can play a big role as well (maybe even a bigger role).

So far, playing in the winter league. I have a record of 11-16...I have a record of 11-1 against the SNES 'B' league players and an 0-15 record against SNES A league players. why is that? You'd think I would've atleast won once against an 'A' league player or lost more against the 'B' guys.

well there obvioulsy is a skill difference between the A and B players...but why do i make come backs or win the one goal games against the 'B' players...and blow leads against the 'A' players and lose the one goal games.

I think it nerves more so then skill....I go in thinking 'well i'm not supposed to win this game since it is an A league player so let's just have some fun with it' and i find myself trying to make low percentage plays that i wouldn't normally make just trying to get a goal...or on the reverse side playing defence...not concentrating on making the plays.

don't get me wrong i'm not saying I should have a winning record against 'A' players...but I know there were a few games where i'd be up but never felt comfortable with playing the lead against the better players and vice versa against the B players(never feeling out of it when fallen behind).

i'm not even in the playoffs yet.....lol..perhaps my nerves will be shot by then.

EDIT* for the spring perhaps I'll ask Evan if he can start an A-/B+ league...then my nerves wont have anything to do with it

  10. I don't know what particular player jersey I would support but I'm a canucks fan so anyone of will em do..even harold snepts.

on a side note..my favourite jersey story is that back in high school we played a lot of street hockey(still play today but in a league instead of on the street)...anyways..my older brother liked to be the 'intimidator' to the rest of us younger and smaller guys. He bought a Chicago Jersey so he could be Mike Peluso. Only one day afer he got Peluso and a number silk screened on his jersey, peluso was traded. We still laugh about it to this day.

  11. hey guys, is there a chance i can get in on this league?

    hey augie,

As mentioned previous in the topic, the league has already started and I have no plans on changing any coaches at the current time. However, if changes need to be made, I will do so. There are a few guys ahead of you on the waiting list. In the meantime, if ya want play some exhibition games..hit me up...my aim is hfx2006.

  12. Still don't really know hwo to use the goalie in GENS!

The Deer, so you've switched to the dark side...tsk tsk...(i'm kidding of course)...Close first game with kgman nice work....I found manual goalie in GENS a bit frustrating compared to the SNES since you have told hold the button down for a second or so to activate the goalie as opposed to just tapping the button in SNES and having activated your goalie instantly. A lot of times, saves that you know you would've made in the SNES, you lose out on from that split second difference. But obviously it's one of those things you need to get accustomed to. I've thought about playing the GENS as well down the road. I like the league that dimitry has set up with drafting players and if he continues to have these types of leagues I'm gonna try to get in one.

  13. My LA Kings combo is worth noting tough

    robatille-carson-sandstrom

    zhitnik-blake

Notice that sandstrom is at wing and gretzky is riding pine? im sure you did, i catch a lot of grief for that.

I've tried several line combos with LA in the winter league...and the one I've used for the past 5 or 6 games has been this...

    Gretzky-Granato-Robitaille

    Blake-Mcsorley

I had sandstrom at center and then he got put out for a game and I through granato in. He scored the tying goal with 2 seconds left against boston then scored the winner in OT. I've put him in ever since.
