  1. IIRC a someone or maybe even a few people have published their TM bookmarks for the 32-team ROM and some people will share if you ask.

I believe I had either Skip or Slapshot67's on my old laptop and use AdamCatalyst's now. I would ask one of them if they're willing to share. This will allow you to find items and palettes by the titles they used instead of jumping around from lists of addresses.

Yeah, I spent a summer redoing the player sprites. Unfortunately I'm not tech savvy enough to turn it into a patch...

It’s really, really, really cool. Such a differentiator for the college hockey look in this case too. Went back and played some of your ROMs over the last few weeks and still blown away! Some of the best stuff on this site.

Maybe one day we can get a total sprite update that combines the work you, AdamCatalyst, and Clockwise have done (and with proper NOSE Sprite tab updates too).

awesome!!! thanks are you using tile molester for this process? still rather new to the whole rom modding but desperate to learn the ways of a true hockey jedi lol

You could draw in the blood if you wanted. That would probably be the best. I would probably message one of the super experienced graphics editors for specific advice. AdamCatalyst's source files for his NHL 22 mod can probably help you find the location of the injured player sprite.

By the last season I'd gotten sophisticated enough to link different sheets, automatically adding up individual game points into a season total and then copying that data over to a full team totals, team player lists and overall stats leader list.

Regardless of the game, Offline League Commissioner is something worth putting on a resume and I will not hear otherwise.

Also - if you're still into rod hockey, check out some of the custom Coleco stickers or guides to painting Stiga figures people are making right now. Costs maybe 20 bucks in supplies for each. Awesome stuff. Followed them and have these two tables kicking around in my stash of stuff I couldn't take to college.

Well perhaps, but to compile the game stats and link game sheet data to team calendars and player leader boards and team stats and rankings...
Would would almost take longer to do that than it would to play the games.

Do not underestimate the power of an excel-certified retro gamer.

Currently have spreadsheets from old sim leagues I ran with salary caps and RNG for free agency and trades, a complete history of my NCAA Dynasty which generates an 8 team playoff with conference promotion/relegation, and another spreadsheet to create a faux Tour mode for Mario Golf.

Im rolling with this for my NHL2023 mod....also, been playing around with it in our NHL95 online league as well. May have also found the season mod to expand it. Found most of the standings stats and where to adjust, but need to continue do testing to find more.

Yes expanding to 32 teams. I've found all the spots where the standings data is stored and I've done the schedule changes and the division realignment, as well as the bracket. This is new to expand the season mode from 26 to 32 teams.

I swear every time I come back here just to check in Magnus has another amazing breakthrough!

  7. 5/25/22 Notes

    - A penalty or goal will occasionally cause the Plane A mess to move off of the screen, however, this does not happen every time and in Gens the Plane Explorer doesn't signal any location change in the VRAM

    - the Plane A stuff moves. The Plane B stuff does not.

    - 12 extra columns gives us perfect 16:9 (6 on each side)

    - The crowd only goes up a few rows of tiles, so in order to reach true 16:9, the camera would need to be limited to a smaller area of the center of the ice. This also would help to maintain the goal of making sure the whole ice was visible during play.

    - if the game is too wide, then players will ghost in and out of the frame. I think a camera hack would fix this. and also, other than the ghosting, sprites are unaffected

  8. I am going to tackle this beast because I want my game in beautiful 16:9, dammit!

Here's what I have so far for notes, and I will be posting here every so often. Long winded posts, so be ready.

SETTINGS: Genesis Plus Wide on RetroArch, and Gens KMod for actual modding

ROM: AdamCatalyst's 32-team ROM. I am doing this with the 32-team ROM just because it's the most flexible version of the game, and will help the most in the future as other ROM hacks will be able to use it, whereas the classic ROM is only really used for classic.

    image.png

This is Plane A, which shows all of the elements that "move" with the game, but are not sprites.

    image.png

This is Plane B, which houses the ice surface  and crowd. Most of the items on the right look familiar enough, and/or change during gameplay.

    image.png

This is what the game looks like during play. As you can see, not only has the Plane B image started on the right side of the screen, but it also loops around onto the other side for some reason, which I believe to be because the game thinks it has much less dead space than it does.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This creates a unique issue, where I not only need to trick the game into thinking that it has more space than it does, but move the "write" area for the extra assets over. I am going to do everything I can to learn about and solve this issue within the next few weeks.

  9. Posting the projects I want to get done this summer here, so I can pretend there's some sort of accountability for them"

    - Polish my NHL Pond Hockey game, and release a new version with non-current NHL rosters

    - Make the "NHL Street" companion game I was planning out a while ago

    - Maybe an NHL Jam sequel?

We'll see! Last summer before I have to go out and fully join the adult world, so in the words of Mr. Incredible... I've got time.

Update: So uh... things aren't looking so hot. I ended up getting a big boy job at an office where I do big boy things way before I planned, and that poses a threat to my summer of gaming from a time standpoint. I will probably touch up this one project I'd like to keep a secret and then retire again. May the force be with you.

  10. Hey all,

Just posting this new mod here, figured it would be of some interest to the greater community. Similar to College Football Revamp or March Madness Legacy, some modders discontent with the current NHL games have taken charge editing NHL Legacy Edition to have modern rosters, uniforms, and better gameplay through RPCS3.

The project is in an infant stage right now, but they're making great headway on Discord: https://discord.gg/Dqx5QaUs

NHL 14/15/LE are sort of my generation's NHL 94 (aside from those of us who, you know, went back and played NHL 94), so hopefully it'll gain more traction as PS3 modding and emulation become better and better in the coming years.
