  1. Yeah but it's an ancient version and I can't get the durn thing to work right. Gonna pull out the old Windows box... basically, please gimme Vancouver, but I can't promise tomorrow I'll still be in the league.

Oh, version 1.42 is what everyone uses. The newer versions don't support Netplay.

When you get it working, you can have Vancouver.

  2. Team schedules are up and games can now be logged on the nhl94online site.

For those of you who have forgotten how the site works, or for the new coaches in the league, a game is logged as follows:

    1. Contact the coach you would like to play on AIM.

You can find their AIM by going to the nhl94online.com site. Choose the Classic '94-Spring 2010 league from the drop-down "League Selection" menu on the menu bar. Choose the "League Level" you have joined in the left-hand column and click on your Team. Your "Coach Page" should come up, and you can see which teams you have games remaining against. Click on that team's name in the left-hand column and that team's coach page should load. On the right hand side of the page, there is an area which contains the coach's AIM name. You can contact them in this manner to schedule a game.

    2. Play the game.

Play the game against the selected coach. Once the game is complete, it is the home team's responsibility to log the game. This is done on the "Coach Page" that displays your schedule. By clicking on your team's name in the left-hand column, you access your "Coach Page". Games that you have at home will have a "Log a Game" link next to it. Choose the game that has been played, and record the score. Type in your password to log the game. Once this is done, the away team needs to "Confirm" the game by clicking on the game link on their schedule and typing their password. This will effectively complete the logging of the game.

NOTE: If the score is incorrect, the away team has the option to change the score. Once they do this, the home team needs to "Reconfirm" it in order for it to count towards the season.

    Checkpoints

The season will be 40 games long. There will be WEEKLY CHECKPOINTS. You are required to play 5 games a week. If you miss 2 checkpoints in a row, you will run the chance of being replaced. This is to speed up the season so we can hopefully complete the playoffs by the Holiday Season. I do not think this is asking much, and most of the guys in the league are easy to reach and are active in the forums. If you cannot find a coach and would like to try to schedule a time to play, please use the "Schedule a Game" forum or send them a message on AIM, or use the forum PM. Please make an effort to reach your checkpoints!

    Regular Season

The regular season consists of 40 games.

Genesis: This was tough. The divisions are evenly spread out as far as competition.

    Each team will play:

    - 3 games against division foes, with an extra game against 1 division foe with a comparable skill level.

    - 3 games each against the other teams in your conference

    - 2 games each against 3 teams out-of-conference

I set up the out of conference team games against coaches with a comparable skill level.

This should give everyone a decent chance at making the playoffs.

    SNES:

    Each team will play:

    - 4 games against division foes

    - 3 games against the other teams in your conference

    - 2 games against teams out-of-conference

    Playoffs

This year, we have only 1 league per system. In the Genesis league, I plan on having 16 of the 24 teams make the playoffs. As of right now, it will be the 16 teams with the best record in the league. I have some ideas with seeding, but I'd like to talk to Halifax about that first for a second opinion.

The SNES league will have 12 of the 16 teams with the best record make the playoffs, with the top 4 teams getting a 1st round bye.

For the new coaches, the rules of the league are posted at: http://www.nhl94online.com/html/rules.php

That's about all. Good luck to everyone and lets hope for another successful season!

If there are any website problems or questions, please PM me or AIM : Rage93.

  3. I lied about Thursday. Schedule will be done tomorrow, almost finished.

Statto, we do have an opening for Vancouver in SNES if you are interested. You just need to download hamachi and set it up. I believe it is on the nhl94online page under downloads. If you need help, you can PM me or just contact one of the SNES guys on AIM.

  4. Not that I want to be vain or anything, but is the site going to be updated to show the winners of the Spring 2010 Season :)

Website updated. Sorry, I was waiting for SNES-A to finish their finals, but doesn't look like it's happening for a while.

As far as the team selections, this is the first time (at least since I have been here) where we had this many teams in one single league. With this many teams, the method of team selections should probably be adjusted, although there will still be coaches with sub-par teams. Let's see how the season goes, and if we decide to do the one league option in the future, it might be a good idea to think about changing the way team selection is done.

As far as schedule, I'm shooting for Thursday to have it up.

  5. Don't need to play no league to recognize potential flaws in the system, all you need is some common sense.

What flaws? So, if you are a new guy, we are supposed to give you one of the best teams? how is that fair?

You pick a list of 10 teams. There are at least 10 decent teams in the game. Pick teams you are good with and then fill the rest with teams that are good in the game. I believe this system works better than first come, first serve or give the new guys the best teams. The past 2 seasons played have had champions that were new coaches, using this same system.

I thank you for taking the team you were selected with and planning on playing through the season, but don't blame the system if you were the one who picked the sub-par team, even with the assumption that it was your 9th pick and "it would never get to the point where I would get this team".

BTW, a newbie to GENS (rc69fab) has Chicago. How does that support your argument?

  6. What is the point of the multiple choices form then if it gets completely overwritten by the seeding system in the end? Might as well making it clear from the get go that you're gonna get a random team unless you're an oldschooler...

Imho, if 2 players out of 22 pick a team as their 1st or 2nd choice one of them should end up with it and that's it. The fact that some random dude who doesn't even have it in the top 5 got prioritized for the aforementioned team baffles me.

Also, this has nothing to do with playing as a crap team as Edmonton are almost as bad as Tampa anyway (besides, I don't give a damn cause I'm gonna lose all of the match anyway, no matter the team lol) ALTHOUGH I strongly believe that if you're going to randomly assign teams the strongest ones should go to the weakest players and not the other way around...

On a distinctly separate, yet quite personally connected note, in our SWOS tournaments people just pick a "team template" (generally one of the top teams in the original savedisk, so either Brazil, Real Madrid, Italy or Barcelona) and then customize it with whatever name, players' names and kits colours they see fit (stats however remain unchanged to keep the playing field as even as possible while retaining some degree of variety). Mods then modify the database accordingly and upload the savedisk (which gets updated on monthly basis).

Leaps and bounds more fair than random assignment crap, cool (cause you get to control your very own personalized team), practical and simple. You guys should think about it (it'd still be "Classic" NHL94 seeing as stats wouldn't change).

You choose 10 teams. No one made you choose Tampa Bay as one of your 10 teams. There are 28 teams in the game and you had 17 other choices but chose Tampa Bay. Seeding is randomized and the teams are selected as best available. This is how it always has been and always will be. It is very fair and the reason why you choose 10 teams you want to play as, not just pick randomly. You don't get a "random" team unless you choose your teams that way. BTW Tampa was your 9th choice, and all your other choices except EDM, ANA, and SJ were popular.

Normally, we have at least 2 Genesis leagues, so you would have a chance to get one of your top teams, but this season we are trying something different.

  7. I get San Jose this time? Uh oh... It's gonna be a bad season in Bosnia in here.

I repeat my SNES soiree with Philadelphia? Fine with me, I'm ready to hit people with Lindros again.

How many total games do we get? Is it gonna be a 2-game affair like with NHL91?

Hey, you had San Jose in your top 10. Maybe you can pull a 26 game losing streak like Hokkee did with them last season.

  8. I see and it sounds doable (thanks for clearing that up), what is exactly preventing you from making it 10 or 12 weeks though (just out of curiosity)?

Let's say we were to start a week after registration begins - Sept. 20th. 8 weeks later would be Nov. 15th. Then the playoffs would start and theoretically we can get everything done before Christmas/New Year time. Making the regular season longer would cause the season to run into that time and alot of people go on vacation, are off from school and away, etc. This causes issues completing the season.

5 games is not too hard to do a week when you play teams multiple times. Normally guys want to get all of those games against a single opponent in at one time.

    AJ beat me to it.

  9. So how does the team selection work? Is it just first come first serve based on the order everyone registered? Or is it some random pick based on the order of everyone's picks or something else?

No it's random. It doesn't matter when you sign up.

Also, so everyone knows, there will be no changing of your Team Preferences this time around. You are stuck with what you choose, so choose wisely!

  10. Registered.

I have already played several test matches (against beavers, swos81 and others), they just never bothered to either post in the "test" thread about it or confirm me, lol. I hope I'm set anyway though (if not, please guys chime in and confirm that I've actually been "tested").

I can also host matches just fine btw.

Nope, everyone has posted. I'll confirm you don't worry about it.

  11. Registration for the Fall Classic Season has begun! Registration begins today and will end September 13th.

This season, we are trying to "spice" things up a bit. Instead of having separate league level playoffs like in the past, we will have one big tournament! Who will take the crown as King of Classic?

The regular season will still be divided up into 2 league levels, and the best teams in both leagues will duke it out for the crown. We are waiting to see how registration goes before deciding on how many teams will make the playoffs, but we hope to have a decent size playoff tournament to give as many people as possible a chance at victory.

The regular season will be 40 games, with weekly checkpoints.

Register here: Registration Page, or you can select Classic '94 - Fall 2010 from the League Selection drop-down at NHL94 Online and click Registration on the Menu Bar.

Coaches who have played in a previous season of Classic (since Spring 08), or WHA, will choose "Yes" for the question, "Have you registered for a league before?"

    Newcomers:

    - When asked "Have you registered for a league before?", you will answer "No". Then proceed to select a User Name and password. It is common to use the same User Name as your Forum Name, or your AIM Name.

    - Please proceed to fill in the rest of the information, such as AIM screen name, Email, Location, Time Zone, and System Preference. This information is used to register you on the website for this league and future leagues.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    - The next step is to choose which league you will be joining. This time around, you will only select "Genesis" or "SNES". We will take care of how the leagues are split up after registration is over.

    - You will then select your team preferences. Select 10 different teams. Hit Submit, and if everything is OK, you are set up.

    - Newcomers will need to get a test game against a veteran in order to test out their emulator setup / internet connection. Veteran coaches, it would be nice if you could help out the newcomers and test out their connections!

GENS Test Game Requests: Genesis Test Games

SNES Test Game Requests: SNES Test Games

Confirm Coaches Page (used by the veteran coach to confirm connection): Confirm Coach

Those of you, who last season had registered for the Waiting List, and were never confirmed and never played a game in the league, will need to re-register for the site. I have removed all the people from the site who were on the Waiting List from last season, but were not confirmed.

NOTE: Once you register, you cannot change your Team Preferences. You are stuck with what you pick, so choose wisely!

Also, once registration is over, and the leagues are divided up, all confirmed coaches will be selected randomly and given their highest available team based on their Team Preferences.

Any questions, please feel free to ask here or you may PM me.

wow. need x11 (have) and xcode (think I have) to run WINE. downloaded WINE and it is some serious computer geek action. no exe and I need to alter the "terminal" file to say a lot of things I don't understand. that'd be fine if I knew what/where the terminal file was. all of the online help for WINE is in geekspeak and makes it look like it'd be easier to write all of the code from scratch. I give up. WAY too hard to use WINE. way over my head with "echo export PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:\$PATH$'\n'export MANPATH=/opt/local/man:\$MANPATH | sudo tee -a /etc/profile" that I don't even know where to put. wow.

Why don't you use the "Spotlight" function in the top right corner of Mac OS X? Type in Terminal, and it will find the program for you. If you don't have XCode installed, you can install it from your Mac OS X CDs. When in the terminal, just type in those commands and it will do all the work for you.

  13. I don't get it, I got a mail about the Fall league stating that I should've re-registered if I wanted in but the tournament doesn't show up in the drop-down menu.

Just gotta wait a bit longer or what?

Also, is this Gens or SNES?

If you read in your email, it should say that registration begins Monday, Aug. 30th

  14. Thanks man, and congrats!

Was definitely pretty hilarious in some of those games, even my gooning it up couldn't save me. :(

And yeah, I really switched off this season after a ) I wasn't able to get hold of all my opponents for the rest of my regular season games and b ) one of my playoff series ended up being an FF after trying to get it organized for a couple of weeks. Can't remember the last time I played a game before yesterday, and I'm kinda doubting that I will sign up for next season too.

The Fall season runs a lot smoother, since everyone has hockey fever with the NHL season starting up. Once the end of Spring comes, everyone loses interest due to nice weather and vacations, and its hard to find some guys. I was hoping that the playoffs wouldn't drag on like this by shortening the season with quicker checkpoints, but it didn't work out that way.
