On a serious note, what a great shame that it appears there won't be some sort of EA co-ordinated/sponsored event.
This legendary game, that really changed the genre forever, and who's influence can still be seen in today's games really deserves some special recognition.
How many games are going to this popular & actually attracting new players 20 years after it's release?!
It appears a huge marketing opportunity for EA is going to be missed here. I would have thought packaging Clockwise's 2014 update & the Classic 94 weight bug fixed rom (If we're talking GENS) with the latest EA 2014 game would have been an absolute no brainer.
Disappointing there'll be no big commemorative event............................unless Halifax, Chaos & Evan have something up their sleeves?
Great shame? Chill out, dude. It's a great little community we have here, but EA Sports sold 353,000 copies of FIFA '13 in ONE DAY. You really think EA Sports cares about 100 people who play a bootlegged free version of their hockey game from 20 yeas ago? There's really only about 35 serious genesis players who have been active in online leagues for multiple seasons, and we are spread out all over the world. Let me do the math for you: 35 is 0.01% of 353,000. The New York City area BBQ only got 4 people from the online community with a couple months lead time. It was fun, but a corporate sponsorship is laughable.
There are legal and financial issues with packaging NHL '94 with NHL '14... first of all, the NHL and NHLPA don't even have an agreement with each other right now. That's kind of a big deal. I've never played NHL '04, but I've been told that it had the classic '94 game on it without player names because of issues with licensing player likeness. That's lame.
Bottom line: Who has the time and money to travel long distance for an NHL '94 event? I've made it to 2 live tournaments in Philadelphia (2 hours from where I live), and I was the only one from the online community to make it. Those were fun, but I doubt I'd be able to travel somewhere like Toronto to do something that I can do from the comfort of my apartment.

How about Paul Kariya? Him and Selanne were pretty amazing for a few years there. Very exciting. Insane speed and skill. One-timers galore. If Kariya didn't have problems with concussions, he'd be an all-time great player.

10. Pavel Datsyuk
9. Jaromir Jagr
8. Pavel Bure
7. Denis Savard
6. Kent Nilsson
5. Gilbert Perreault
4. Alex Kovalev
3. Wayne Gretzky
2. Bobby Orr
1. Mario Lemieux
Nilsson and Perreault were before my time, and I was a little surprised they were so high on the list. Kovalev #4? He's a very skilled player, but I'm not sure I'd put him ahead of Yzerman, Sakic, Forsberg, Selanne, Bourque, Jagr, and Bure. Also, Messier deserves some consideration; he's #2 all-time in points.

How about a modern dynasty with '13 rosters?
-
GGS! Congrats to PRoBob on his first playoff series victory!
-
now if we could only get fighting into '94 ... or one-timers and manual goalie into '93
-
31 goals, 291 checks in 6 games.
And a big time upset! PRoBob is the first to advance in Blitz Playoffs.
-
Is there a way to only give a penalty to the loser of a fight? that would be really great.
-
I didn't know you could change the penalty time...that's cool!
I wonder why nobody ever thought about scaling back the penalties for a 5 min period in other ROMs? A 2 minute penalty would be okay in a 20 min period, but since we play 5 minute periods, I would think the penalty time should be scaled back to 30 seconds. Fighting from 5 to 1:15.
I like the idea of scaling back penalties to 1 minute... Mainly because the computer referee makes mind-boggling calls sometimes that can sway the outcome of a game unfairly. Nothing worse than having 2 men in the box when you're trying to make a comeback in the 3rd period.
-
I have already experimented with the ROM and changed the one Roughing penalty to "Injuring", also thought of lowering the Fighting Penalty Minutes to 1 (or 2) to increase the possibly if having more fights in the games. It kinda sucks having your bruiser out for a whole period.
Great idea!

You forgot about the Sega Saturn 6 button 3D controller:

If I win a game i'll be delighted! lol. I have hardly played in the last couple of months, & Wookie's on all the time, in addition to being the better player & probably having the better team. The Caps are up against it big time in this one!

lol. those pink jerseys are awesome

I don't think I can make it that day.

LOL. Nightmare on NHL '94!!!!!! Ron Barr with the Power Glove!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I considered Messier with a donut, but he's been so good for me in Blitz that I gotta respect the moose.
If your pain and suffering could make 1 person smile, it's been worth it. Especially true because right now I'm 3-7 and went 2-1 against you!
Just stick it out bud. I went 36-4 in C and won the playoff... then I snuck into the semi-final in A with Chicago last season. The A League is no joke! As I mentioned, I'm 3-7 right now. Just have fun, learn from it, and you'll be an awesome bud!

Keep in mind these odds are for the cup not IMO odds on where teams finish in regular season. Though they are usually correlated, not always.
Blitz Trivia: No #1 seed has ever won the Blitz B Championship.

I'm interested, but I'm in 5 leagues right now (blitz (a + b ), gdl, '13dl, classic)... can this wait a couple months?

I can't believe it's not GA!

I just wanna say there's no shame at all. "No shame in the game" as I've heard it said. Big thanks to Halifax, Chaos, Evan, smozoma, DaDonch, Plabax, KingRaph, Dan and everyone else who keeps these great online leagues going year after year. Also, thanks to EggInk for doing a sweet BBQ last month at his house in Jersey. Maybe we can plan something similar for 2013, with more people involved.
Robbie: If you wanna organize a big event, go for it. If you wanna type out a bunch of nonsense expressing your shame and disappointment, maybe you should think twice.
