  1. Thanks! And thank you for the suggestion to download one of your ROM's. Is there still 26 teams total in any of those ROM's including the All-Star teams? I've also replaced Ott,SJ and TBY with the Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Barons and a fictional Seattle Metropolitans (as if the planned '76 expansion to Seattle actually happened). Plus the Wales and Campbell. I've looked at Tile Molester. It's rocket science to me haha.
  2. Wasn't sure if that was established for just '94 or if it applied to '93 as well. I've created a ROM that's almost done based largely on the rosters listed in an 83-84 season preview I found with some added tweaking. All I need to do is put in the Roughness rating for each player (and maybe elicit some help in changing some banners). I don't have the time nor aptitude to learn how to do that myself.
  3. I get what you're saying - as lower weight also makes them turn quicker and accelerate faster. However I don't want them to be able to bodycheck well themselves - and I also like the idea of making some really heavy slow guys who knock down everyone but have trouble reaching them (Ken Morrow at 220 llb, 0 Speed) for example.
  4. Thinking about what you wrote here. I could just lower the weights of each of my above categories - so that say the middle "STAR" weight is 180. I don't have the game on this computer - on my MAC here - but I think the lowest weight is 164 OR is it 156?
  5. Sounds like the +2 thing is a major determinant but there is room for different results based on whatever (angle?speed? etc. - -which is preferable, I like that there is at lease some variability). I have built rosters without complete ratings in NOSE based on an old preview of the 83-84 season I have. Gave each team 12 Forwards, 6 Defenders and 2 goalies. Also created a Colorado Rockies consisting of players who played for them as well. Wanted to have two 11 team conferences with the season format I have in mind. May extend it to two conferences of 12 and resuscitate the Seals and Barons while I'm at it! I'm clueless on how to edit banners. If I build the rosters think you could help me with that? Get LA purple and gold, make me a Colorado etc. etc.?
  6. Thank you Coach Mac, appreciate that response.
  7. I think I read somewhere that (with the weight bug fix) that a player needs to be rated two higher in weight to be likely to succeed with a body check. Can anyone confirm this? So hypothetically playing NHL'93, I was thinking of assigning players the following weight categories) 220 - (can body check 172-204; bodychecked by no one) 212 - (can body check 172-196; bodychecked by no one) 204 - (can body check 172-188; bodychecked by 220) 196 - (can body check 172-180; bodychecked by 212-220) 188 - (can body check 172; bodychecked by 204-220) 180 - (can body check nobody; bodychecked by 220-196) 172 - (can body check nobody; bodychecked by 220-188) For a mid-80's ROM my plan would be to assign the majority of players to the middleweights (204-188) and make star players like Gretzky, Bossy, Stastny etc. to weight 196. This way they can only be knocked down by a handful of players and can only knock down the weakest of players. This is a strategy I'd employ to make their skills not be undermined by the importance of bodychecking and weight in the game without making them total monsters knocking everyone down as well. I hope this description I made makes sense. And I also hope my understanding of how bodychecking works in NHL'93 is correct and this strategy will work. Any input appreciated from the experts. Thank you.
  8. I have a MAC but have always played on the PC partition of my hard drive I created with Boot Camp. Does it work just as well if I played on my regular MAC platform? Does NOSE work on MAC?
  9. Thank you for the link, yes I did notice that fix and tried it, seemed to be extremely difficult to bodycheck, but I only played like 2 short games so could've been a small sample size. What's your experience with it? And what then would determine the success of a check then - solely the speed and angle of the hit? Always has seemed that that did have something to do with it too (as it should!)
  10. Thank you to those who have posted how to do the weight bug fix so that heavier players are better checkers and better at withstanding checks than lighter players. I tried manually inputting the improved weight bug fix in NHL '93 but it doesn't seem to have the desired effect upon testing. Are there any NHL'93 downloads available that employ the improved weight bug fix? Also, while I can follow the steps and edit the game and have successfully implemented the regular weight bug fix in HEXeditor - I was wondering how much these can be toyed with? Like is it possible to change the line of code involving bodychecking in NHL'93 so that Checking determines how good of a bodychecker a playeri is but Agility (for example) determines how good a player is at withstanding a bodycheck? Basically I'm looking for a way where a player can be a good bodychecker but not good at withstanding bodychecks AND vice versa. With weight as the major determinant of bodycheck success, as I understand at least, a player's ability to bodycheck will always be the same as their ability to absorb a check.
  11. Haha. Thank you, glad to be here. Playing without the goalie, I basically allow myself to make the breakaway deke BUT only allow defencemen to make the top corner shot from the point. I also HAVE to make a pass before trying to score once my team gains possession of the puck. I'm also not allowed to force the CPU defencemen into putting the puck in his own net OR "pass" the puck through the goalies legs. ...Motivation of these rules is just to keep it competitive with the computer. I played NHL'93 like this about 15 years ago like crazy. Set up seasons with randomly selected "mini-rosters" for each team (ie 6 Forwards / 3 D'Men - no line changes, lines for each game also randomly chosen from the mini-roster). Mini-rosters meant that bad teams could have a good season if all their top guys were on the mini-roster AND conversely good teams could have off-years if their lower rated players were on it. Lots of fun. Now I want to do the same thing using a ROM of 80's players. Just want to get the bodychecking formula right before building the roster in NOSE.
  12. Thank you for your response. I literally implemented it last night so not sure it's effect. Was hoping someone had also used ricci's formula since he posted that and could clarify that for me. Sounded to me like he made it so that Balance - formerly checking - was a factor in the success/failure of a check. Will have to test. I am newly registered to the site, but have been playing NHL'93 on a ROM for a while. I had difficulty registering on the site last year for some reason, but it was easy when i tried last night. I have played with the simple weight bug fix - learned from this site thank you all - for a while now and have used NOSE to edit ROMS My goal now is to find a way where a player can be good at withstanding a check but not good at making a bodycheck OR vice versa. For example it will be important for Wayne Gretzky to be able to withstand a bodycheck to make him a great offensive player in the game, but it would be nice if that didn't also mean he could knock everyone down as well. Hopefully ricci's formula works - but again I'll have to test it.
  13. Hi, New to the site. I play NHL '93 against the computer without the goalie and have found it never ceases to be competitive (as long as I remain disciplined in not breaking certain self-imposed rules of play - which I can detail if requested). I am currently working on a ROM using players from the 80's and have manually implemented edits to the game in HEX editor & NOSE etc. to institute the improved weight bug fix. I am thankful to everyone on this site who has taken the time and effort to post their hacks and related knowledge to make this possible. I look forward to posting more about my ROM and how I plan to use it once it is completed.
  14. I manually implemented these changes into a '93 ROM I'm creating using 1980's rosters. So just to clarify, now that in NOSE I have Weight changed to Checking and Checking changed to Balance - both with rating systems of 0-F (0-15) - the success of a body check is determined by: Player attempting check: Checking (formerly "Weight") *8 Player receiving check: Balance (formerly "Checking") *5 Hypothetically then: If player attempting check has a Checking Rating of 4 and Player Receiving Check has a Balance value of 6 - the bodycheck is likely to be successful as 4*8=32 > 6*5=30 This may be an obvious yes answer, but before I proceed with the labour of determining ratings I felt the need to clarify. (Secondary Question: can I edit the multiplier's in HEX to change it say to Checking *5 instead of Checking *8 if so desired)?
