  1. This thread is home to offers, wants, and potential trades.

    Offers & Wants

For offers and wants, you are only welcome to post your requests---please have all conversations through AIM. It keeps the thread clean and it makes it easier for Brutus to find the trades he needs to confirm.

Acceptable: "Plabax (ARI) looking to move up in the 1st round. Willing to offer 1.17 and 2.08. Message if interested."

Unacceptable: "Hey man... how about 4.2 and 6.23 for your 4.15 and 6.10? Who do you have? Are you interested in Ulf Dahlen?"

Any negotiations should be handled on AIM :eyes_droped:

    Potential Trades

When you have reached a deal with another coach, please post it here in a format similar to this:

"Plabax (ANH) trades 1.15 and Pat LaFontaine to LABS_66 (PIT) for 1.6 and 3.19"

Once the trade is posted, the other coach will have to CONFIRM the trade before it is eligible to become an official trade. This will help brutus know which trades are official or not!

Remember, there are unlimited trades this season!! However, questionable trades can be reviewed by everyone in the league as a whole.

    TRADON! :dal_skater_hand_grab:

  2. I don't understand why you would play with penalties on. It made sense when it would enable the B-check, but it doesn't anymore so there is no reason to keep them on. Not to mention, they are 100% random (unless on breakaway), always committed by the AI off-screen and they slow down the game because there are about 1021 penalties every game!

  3. The game doesn't autosave. You have to press F5 to save it. There are different slots (from 0-9) that you choose by pressing F6 (to go back) and F7 (to go forward). When you press F6 or F7, the state number will appear at the bottom of the emulator's screen and it will tell you if the slot is either empty or occupied. What you want to do for league games is choose slots that are either empty or contain saves that you have already uploaded and/or do not need.

Also, you do not have to wait for the three stars in order to save, and you can even save after the three stars and before the team selection screen.

  4. Speed suits Freydey well (I actually think he couldn't win with a max 4 speed offence like you can). Yes you had better team this season than last one, but maybe not enough. I know it's more about the tools your team has than what the opponent has to what it takes to play well, so maybe it would've been enough. With his speed I still would've put him as the favourite on 7 game thrill again (you have never actually won GDL when Freydey has played it). We will never know, I know you have the talk and the ability to walk it as well, but in the end it's all mumbo jumbo and speculation now.

He had just as much speed last year too. I've already beat him twice when he's had speed. If anything, his team was faster last year because of Selanne. I've won 5 of my last 6 leagues (beating Freydey twice), yet I am never considered to be the favourite. It just seems odd to me.

  5. Do you really think Freydey would have been able to take me with a team that had more speed, agility, stickhandling, AND shooting power/accuracy than my GDL 12 team? I mean, I traded away Lemieux and Bradley and ended up replacing them with Gretzky and Cullen (I didn't even know his attributes until the league was over). Not only that, but my defensemen and my goalie were better in GDL 13 too.

Aside from replacing someone, I have only lost two playoff series, and they both come from me having poor GDL teams. I have never lost with a good team (6-0), and I have never won with a mediocre/bad one (0-2).

  6. I think in a line change league w/ longer periods, I'd make the home team fatigue slower.

That'd be something cool. But in the line changes off, hack & slash style video game that most of us play, home/away ice is a rom makers desire to add more variables, but really just potentially lowering the value of the game play compared to the classic rom.

A high percentage prefer the feel of classic even over Blitz which edited in better goalies & added checking into the weight bug fix & removes the c/b. The more accurate to real life does not appear to be the "best" play, IMO.

The classic ROM has the worst home/road advantages by far. Blitz has it so that all home teams have a "strong" advantage, while all the road teams have an "average" advantage. GDL sets all teams to average.

Since there are no advantages in GDL, the magnitude of the stats aren't affected to the degree they are in Classic or Blitz. For example.. a player who has 80 stickhandling in GDL does not actually have the same stickhandling as someone who has 80 stickhandling in Blitz, because of the difference in home/road advantages.

I agree with CoachMac here. I believe the best way to set it is strong home and average away.

  7. Ah.. and I was the one "bitching" over third line scrubs ONLY because they play for Ottawa... Well now I see someone else requesting changes for a third liner only because he is from Finland yet it's "good feedback". :glare:

Why is it acceptable when others do it but not me? I don't see skip cussing about it and I certainly don't see other guys like jer and smoz coming in to make potato and steak dinner jokes..

  8. okay. I just meant that realism shouldn't be dismissed as unnecessary due to the fact that the game doesn't play out like actual NHL hockey for you. it sure does for me. is it perfect? of course not, but it approaches that with careful attention to player ratings.

Dude, be real. NHL '94 plays nothing like an actual hockey game.

  9. while the Genesis version is an arcadey nonsimulation game, the SNES one does -- or at least can -- play more like the actual league. player ratings can give you the feeling that you are controlling a real player, with his poor shot but slick passing, his great defensive positioning but lack of agility, his high speed but bad stick/puck control....

Well.. all that stuff is in the Genesis version too. There are tons of players with poor shots but great passing. And many with good positioning and lack of agility, and again some with high speed and bad puck control. That doesn't mean it plays like the real NHL :D

When it all comes down to it, the difference between the players is larger in the Genesis version than it is in the SNES version.
