  1. The Real NHL '94 (2009)
This rom is based on the actual 1993-94 season, while the game itself was roughly based on the rosters from the 92-93 season, with a pretty much fictional Florida Panters and a very inaccurate San Jose Sharks. I've based my stats mainly from EA's NHL '95 with a mix of my own. I calculated stats based on players performances from the 94 season. You could consider this a roster update, hehe. I mainly made it for my own personal use, but when I was gonna put the "Ice Hockey" rom here I decided to finish up this one as well.
-Reworked rosters, jerseys (almost all jerseys has been at least a little bit altered), all new player stats.
-Brodeaur, Osgood, Yashin and more rookies that debuted during the 94 season.
-Over all more even teams, and even third lines are pretty decent.

This rom is based on the actual 1993-94 season, while NHL '94 is roughly based on the rosters from the 92-93 season, with a pretty much fictional Florida Panters and a very inaccurate San Jose Sharks.

There are three main reasons that I made this rom hack:

    1. There are plenty of players that never even played in the teams they are in , in NHL '94 (especially on the expansion teams).

    2. Anaheim and Florida lack extra players, there should be at least one extra on each position, in case someone gets injured.

    3. And also, especially Florida was way too poor in the game compared to how they performed that season. And San Jose should have had Igor Larionov and Ulf Dahlén for example. New Jersey lack rookie Martin Brodeaur and instead of beeing 3rd goaile, Hasek actually won the Vezina Trophy that year.

Team jerseys have been overhauled, even for the All-Star teams.

All teams has at least one extra player on both offense and defense! I.e. Florida was stuck with 6 defenders and 9 forwards, which equals 5 per line, no extra players, there are now 7 defenders and 10 forwards. And they all teams has two goalies in this rom.

Scott Mellanby doesn't have the lowest rating possible on speed anymore (about time he could get out of the face off circle before the end of the period).

Team overall is based on the best line / SC1+SC2+CHK's average.

The All Star teams are fictional, didn't find any roster info for the 94 teams, so they are simply put together from the BEST players in the rom, and they are even, down to a decimal. That wasn't even intentional.

Player stats are mainly based of NHL '95 although some alterations have been made. I've roughly polished the stats depending on how well players did that season scoring wise. Calculated from goals/assist per game (although a minimum of 20 games were required to aquire these stats). Also, in 95 most players had very high "stick handling", which I also transfered over, thus enhancing passing (puck recieving) a lot!

This will also hopefully help to encurrage to use line changes. Sure, the 2nd and 3rd line are slower, but that's about the worst thing about them, they aren't terrible anymore, they can atleast recieve passes.

Although it may not seem as much, this is without a doubt the hack I've put most time into.

Thanks to wboy and mack for all the help.

    Ice Hockey Edition (2009)
Features small, medium and large players. Just as in the NES classic Ice Hockey. Though not visually noticeable, you'll sure notice the difference when you play. There are a few way's you'll be able to keep track of which type of player is which while playing. All necessary info can be found in the readme, if you have any questions, just ask. There are only two teams, with all fictional players (thought it might be most fun). The All Star teams are the ones replaced, so the default NHL teams are still there.

    2 on 5
Contains one hacked rom per team. Each rom gives the specific team only two players! Perfect for two friends to battle through the Stanley Cup, or just to give a more challenging single player experience. In case you're stuck with an old version of this, along with misc fixes, these are some additions:
-All Star teams are included (still not available in playoff)
    -Works with line changes
-Default home team is the same as the selected rom

    1 on 1, 2 on 2 and the 3 on 3 roms
Jeff wanted a 2on2 rom, so I've put one together, I made a 1on1 rom as well, in case it would get requested later.
1on1 features only one center on each team, 2on2 is C+LW and 3on3 is all three forwards, no defenders, so it's all offense baby!

NHL.94.2k6-SE (predecessor to the "juiced" rom)
This is a rom I worked on last year.. All players have 100 on all stats, so expect some fast paced hockey with great passing and hard shots! The thing is I made custom rosters, a kind of All Stars rom, with the great players that played for each team during the past decade or so. I might have favored swedes in this rom, for that I apologize. I'm not sure if I ever intended to release this rom. But I figured, why not. I know I had a lot of fun with these "perfect" players. I recommend playing with line changes on/auto

    2007 All Star Teams
I made this in spring, not sure why I didn't release it at that point. Well it's the two All Star teams from the 2007 season. They should be correct as far as it's possible. Uniforms etc. Although I had to improvise on the second set of uniforms as there was only one per team.

  2. Pretty much the same can be done within Steam (from Valve software, anyone who've played half-life or cs should know about this) nowadays with the "new" Community thingy. It's really not a bad idea. In Steam you can enter a chat (for the Community Group your a part of) and then it would be easy to fin someone to match up against. I've used xfire and it worked pretty well, it was over a year ago by now though.

  3. Theres a version of zsnes out there that allows direct output to avi. Unfortnately it for some reason doesnt allow netplay - at all.

But in 1.43, the version with netplay, can't you just save a state, and then open it in 1.51 and export to .avi there?

What is the preferred video software among the members here who have made highlight compilation videos?

On topic: I used Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for my video, which I felt was really easy to learn. Only used it for a couple of hours. Has a lot of transition effects and stuff and I've probably just scratched the surface.. And then there's Pinnacle Studio, which is also said to be pretty easy to learn, haven't used this one though.

But as a free alternative, I'm guessing VirtualDub can do the most (which I recommend trying out either way, it's a great program that's useful for a lot of things, both audio and video related).

Somewhat related: mp3DirectCut is a really neat free program for cutting and editing mp3 files without losing quality (lossless).

  4. I didn't have much against the game play itself. Maybe it's because I've played so much NHL 95 and 96 on the Genesis (many years ago though) that I'm just used to it. The delay to gain goalie control isn't that big of a problem, and hey, it goes for both teams anyway. What I found more annoying was rather the opposite, gaining goalie control by accident (while just performing a pass). But that's probably just a thing to get used to.

    Genesis cons:

-Unable to "Exit" a game in progress

    -No controller/team selection screen

-I personally don't like the graphics and really don't like the sound effects

    Genesis pros:

-Puck physics seem to be better, more redirections, be it skates, sticks or posts and the ability to one-time lose pucks.

-The obvious battery backup related stuff

    -Intro music <3

  5. I haven't tried zbattle with it, but I do have a WRT54GL, and now most things work. I did have some trouble setting it up to be honest. I've got an FTP server running without any problem but that's about it. Haven't tried much more.

What about running other firmwares? I'm using the DD-WRT firmware (DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) mini - build 3932). There's one that's called "Tomato" that I see many use as well. Hope you'll figure it out. Network stuff can be tricky when they screw up.

  6. 1. Considering the SNES itself only support 5 players max I can almost guarantee that there will never be 6 vs 6, sadly.

    2. The 0on5 was just, uhm, for testing purpose.

    3. Nope, haven't released the 2on5, yet.

    4. Yeah I talked to Halifax as well and he told me he was unable to play any of my hacks. Have no idea what the reason for that might be. Haven't heard anyone else having problems like that. The weird thing is that he's able to play Mack's hacked rom (although I think he's using another rom as a base than I've gotten hold of, but I've looked through half a dozen version of the original rom, with no luck of finding that one).

    5. I've never played any hacked roms online. Tbh I've hardly played online at all. Well about a year ago I played ~20 games against Fenty, that's about it. So I'm not really sure how well they work on zbattle

    6. I don't care much for SEL (Swedish Elite League), and certainly not MODO :D It was awesome during the lockout with all kinds of cool players on the ice. I actually watched two of the games that season. 10 years ago, after playing Elitserien 95 a lot, I got hooked on Luleå, but after Jarmo Myllys (goalie that played one year in Sharks, a two time SEL goal scorer with just an awesome personality and cool play style, often referred to as a 3rd d-man) quit I kinda lost my interest in Luleå and along with it my interest in the whole league. International hockey and NHL is what counts nowadays.

  7. Al MacInnis has no accuracy whatsoever (maybe on paper but not in the game), powerfull shot but the pucks end up all over the place (SNES).. :)

    ...................... GP . G .. A .. Pts . Sh . Sh%

    DET Paul Coffey ...... 26 . 12 . 30 . 42 .. 31 . 38,7%

    DET Nicklas Lidström . 26 . 13 . 28 . 41 .. 31 . 41,9%

    VAN Jyrki Lumme ...... 27 . 6 .. 27 . 33 .. 30 . 20,0%

    QUE Steve Duchesne ... 27 . 7 .. 23 . 30 .. 28 . 25,0%

From my season.. Uhm.. MacInnis is 3rd on goals with 10 but only 13th in points (amongst defense men). So I guess he actually is pretty good considering I mainly play with Detroit (I've probably played ~25 out of the 27 with Calgary though). On a side note: Best of the AI controlled teams is Vladimir Malkhov with 2 goals and 10 assists. Heh..

  8. I own both NHL 2k3 and 2k6.. I've "got" 2k7 as well. The thing, for me at least, with the games today, is that they always have one really annoying thing. With NHL '07 I actually thought it might be a game I would be playing for a long time... But yet again there was something (can't remember what) that turned me off after awhile. The 2k games have been a tad to stale for my taste I think.

The NHL game I've played the most and have had the most fun with out of the more recent games is probably NHL Hitz Pro for PS2. Before that it's NHL '99 for PC, without a doubt the 3D hockey game I've played the most. '97 (Saturn) has got to be the absolute worst hockey game there is (by ease if you only count EA), they worked things up with '98 and hit the sweet spot with '99... Then they began to go downhill. I recall that I played 2000 quite a lot as well.

Was it 00 or 01 that "introduced" the blue line backhand goals by the AI? My god that thing drove me maaaaaad. :)

  9. lol.. Two goalies. Nice :) Glad I checked out this forum part quick! Some weird glitches there. Can't say I stumbled across any real bugs with the SNES 3on3 rom.

But at one time I had some serious glitches with one of my rom hacks. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I recal 1-3 players randomly ending up in the penalty box (without penalties) and staying there the rest of the game. I think it had to do with players on multiple places, wrong places (ie D on O) and stuff like that. But it sure gave me some headache!
