  1. Detroit, Michigan - It was a hard fought series through five games that saw the Detroit Red WIngs upset chances evaporate within moments in the final two games. "In some ways its obviously frustrating because we blew it, but on another level...no nevermind it sucks anyway you look at it," commented goalie Tim Cheveldae. Cheveldae was the reason his team stole game 1 of the series. Despite giving up a 5-on-3 power play early in the first period, Vancouver was stifled time and again by hit posts, and acrobatic saves by Cheveldae. "I was playing out of my mind, it was incredible! I think someone might have given me an enhancing spell or something," noted Cheveldae. "Don't listen to him," chimed in team jokester Shawn Burr. "He's been playing a lot of RPG video games like Dungeon Siege lately, so he doesn't have the best sense of reality right now." Detroit rode two second period goals to a 2-0 victory for the game 1 victory. Game 2 saw Vancouver switch its lineup and insert Trevor Linden to turn around the offense. Linden did just that as he scored all of the team's five goals in a 5-0 win to tie the series up. "I think he was wearing the ring of power which gave him +2 strength, and also the Amulet of Ambiguity which confuses opponents within a 20 foot radius," remarked Cheveldae. "Just stop talking already," responded Burr, "I'm going to buy you NHL2007 for Christmas so you stop all this funny talk!" When asked about Linden's performance, coach Scotty Bowman muttered under his breath something about Linden taking performance enhancing drugs and then stomped off. Thirtieth line center Jim Hiller commented though, "I'm not going to make any accusations, but he did seem to have a lot of pimples on the back of his neck." Added Burr, "But I heard his wife was quite 'displeased' with the side effects and made him stop, haha. Guess that's why he was normal the rest of the series." Linden responded to the comments by punching a wall.

  3. Please respond to this post as to when you hope to have your series completed. We appreciate if you guys could finish before MTL-BOS play their games, which will hopefully be by Sunday or Monday.
  4. Haha, glad you all enjoy my writeups. I've been a little busy this week, but I promise I'll do my post-playoff writeup later today.
  5. cr0ssbar it's not that i don't want to share, it's that i have no clue, i got this avatar from something evan uploaded.
  6. Round 2 has been setup with the exception of the Wales Conference in Genesis A. Deadline is Wednesday November 22nd. Please post in the Schedule A Game area if you are having problems contacting the other player.
  7. Kudos to Hokkeefan for advancing from another 7 game series! The better player won the series, I just wish Hokkeefan had truly beaten me (which he very well could have if given the opportunity) and not the stinking AI in the last two games. Such a poor ending to a hard fought series up to that point. Anyway, enough of my ranting, good luck to Hokkeefan in the next round!
  8. While the Detroit Red Wings barely squeaked into the playoffs, they aren't letting that damper their mood. Normally a taskmaster, coach Scotty Bowman lightened up and agreed with Shawn Burr's idea to have the first annual Pre-Playoff Festivities and even participated in the event as well. The festivities, held at Joe Louis Arena, included a large family barbecue, a piñata in the shape of a puck, and a team competition of many events. The players also invited 50 children from Children's Hospital of Michigan and their families to join in the fiesta. The party was a charitable event that raised $400,000 for the Hospital. The highlight of the occasion though was the team competition which included events such as a potato sack race, the three legged race, a wheelbarrow race, and an egg race. One other item that needs mentioning is that all of these events were conducted on the ice, thus increasing the level of difficulty of the events as well as the comedy level. When asked what his favorite part was, team comedian Burr responded, "personally, I thought watching Riendeau missing the piñata by a mile was the funniest part of the event. But then it reminded me of how similar it was to him missing pucks in games, so maybe I need to think about your question some more." Mike Sillinger and Dallas Drake came in first in the team standings, beating out Dino Ciccarelli and Yves Racine for second. Sillinger won the potato sack race, while Drake came in third in that event. Sergei Fedorov tripped a few feet past the starting line and fractured his jaw despite wearing a protective helmet. "He's going to kill me for laughing so hard, but I couldn't help it," remarked Paul Ysebaert. " I thought he was taking a dive like he usually does in games just when he's about to get a good scoring opportunity. And when he stood up, he had the same unbelieving look he does when he doesn't get the call, haha!" The three-legged race was a tight one, won by Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom, but Sillinger and Drake came in second. "Another great event, Burr has such an imagination," said John Ogrodnick. "Watching some of those guys try to skate with a teammate was almost as laugh-out-loud funny as watching them skate normally!" Burr chimed in "But for some people it worked out well, like McCrummy (McCrimmon) who normally has two left feet. He and Sheppard are slow as turtles, but they had good rhythm. I'm still amazed they came in third!" The competition seemed well in hand for Sillinger and Drake by the final event, the egg race, but they almost pulled a Munson. The race involved one skater skating the length of the ice with an egg cradled in his neck, then having to pass it to his teammate without using hands, and then having the second skater skate back to the other end. Whoever broke an egg had to skate back to where they started and get a new egg. "Mikey and I, we kept screwing up that egg exchange, people might have thought we enjoyed necking like that, eh," said Drake. "This event was a disaster for Probes (Probert) and Bowman," laughed 12th line center Jim Hiller, "Scott'ys got no neck!" "It's all about the kids," said Burr. The children all took photos with team members and received autographs on the photos as well. "Obviously the boys and girls liked the candy from the piñata, but it was priceless to see them smiling while standing next to their favorite players," added Burr. "Plus, I kept a couple copies of the photos, especially the ones with Probes and Gerry (Gallant). I'll put the pictures under a sign which says, 'Who has more teeth, little Johnny or Bobby?'," laughed Burr.
  9. I have no problem with that. Evan, what do you think? It won't affect the playoff seeding, and you should keep in mind that you need to play your playoff games by November 15th as well. Also you will need to post your scores in the forum, since the Log a Game feature is now turned off for the regular season.
  10. The Pimp is is correct. We use same rules as NHL, so kgboy, since you are the #8 seed, you will face the highest remaining seed in the second round. Which means if kgman takes down Carse, then you face him and his Whalers. Otherwise, you face the next highest seed remaining (ie #3 Tickenest, #4 tk11 or #5 thegr8199 depending on results of those series)
  11. Playoffs are now posted for both SNES A and B. Feel free to e-mail your opponent and get started on the first round. Evan will be e-mailing everyone about the playoffs as well as the deadline (probably November 15th) for first round games. Also, in a number of cases the Admins adjusted playoff seeding to be different than the standings show. This is because certain teams had a lot of unplayed games and were possibly placed lower to give the guys who worked hard to play their games more credit than the current standings gave them. Now I'm going to say this preemptively before people start to comment...If you have a problem with this seeding, I understand that because it's not a perfect system. We feel we made good choices based on what we had to work with. Feel free to constructively criticize and discuss at will as that is what this forum is meant for. HOWEVER, what we WILL NOT tolerate any further is the open bashing and negative tone that has occurred in many of the preceding posts regarding this matter. This is not something that we do for a full-time job, this is something we have put together for the enjoyment of all, in our FREE time. We are learning from mistakes made and evolving the site and systems in place to improve this league to be even more fun than it already is, (and at least for me, despite losing on a frequent basis, NHL94 is pretty damn fun) Many of you appreciate our hard work, and we are happy that you do. Others have voiced displeasure on one or many occasions. As I said before, channel your displeasure into a brainstorming thread of what can be done to improve the league. If you have insights, share them with us. BUT MAKE SURE you leave out the snarky comments when you do so. If you have a negatively worded post, it's not going to be taken as seriously as it would otherwise have been. If you want to rant about how unfair this system is, you are NOT HELPING and you have a choice to make about whether you want to be a part of this community or not. Realize that there are better ways to effect change than to rail on us for putting together a crappy league. Whether you are happy or discontent with the league as it stands today, we hope you decide to contribute to our efforts to improve the community and the league. We appreciate, and will need your assistance even moreso as this league grows. Thanks for listening.
  12. Sorry, you didn't specify what league you were in or what team you are, we'll give you the FF wins instead, but it's not really going to change much about the playoff seeding.
  13. The DNPs and Forfeits were never meant to be used on such a massive scale. This is a very dedicated community so we figured people not playing games would rarely be an issue. We were wrong. As addison said, we will be using this knowledge to make adjustments for upcoming seasons. Also, I've said this in other posts, but since people are getting quite riled up about it, I will say it again. The DNPs and Forfeits are done according to the rules we have setup. HOWEVER, since the number of unplayed games is sooooo out of control, we are taking into consideration teams who have played way more games than other teams and will be adjusting the playoff seeding accordingly. So in SNES B for example, unless STL manages to get in a ton of games tonight and actually win as many as CHI, CHI will be getting the #2 seed in the Campbell conference. You can be upset with our decisions, but despite the records you see on the Standings page, the Playoff seeding will be a much more accurate depiction of the deserved seeding (or at least the three of us think so). There may be some disagreements about it but we're doing the best we can with the hand dealt to us by inactive players. We're sorry about that and will be making changes to improve the league. This is an evolving league and we have been listening to suggestions and will do our best to make things go much more smoothly next time around.
  14. I can't believe someone voted for Vancouver hahahaa. Their D is occasionally stellar, but more often is lacking in clearing out pucks in front of the net. And there are quite a few pucks to clear out because when McLean isn't busy letting pucks go past him, he gives up a ton of rebounds. No idea why he is so bad in this game, but after playing as VAN last season in the GENS division, trust me when I say he is. And Hokkeefan will probably back that up as well.
  15. It's not necessarily fair, but it is what it is. Next season you won't have to deal with that obviously. Thanks for understanding what we have to deal with as Admins. Plus, home-ice in this game doesn't mean a whole lot. Better players win more often than not.
  16. Part of the problem is that he was looking for TOR before you became them (which was quite recently), so it's not necessarily fair to him for us to dole out FF losses to him either. Plus, this doesn't affect you much other than costing you home-ice advantage in the first round. Also, if he's around today, you can still play those games.
  17. I have completed all of the DNPs and Forfeits for GENS A and GENS B. You can still play these games and log them as normal through 1AM tonight. As I mentioned in a previous post, it is better for you to play more games. It doesn't matter what seed you have with DNPs and Forfeits, the admins reserve the right to re-seed the playoffs based on who has played more of their games. Also, there are a couple of unconfirmed games between NYR-QUE in GENS A, and DET-SJ in GENS B, please confirm these today. Thank you.
  18. OK, here is the FINAL word on regular season DEADLINE! GENS games must be completed by Monday at 1AM. SNES games must be completed by Tuesday at 1AM. I may have DNPs and Forfeits posted before those times, however you are free to play those games until the times specified above. Something to keep in mind, especially in SNES, is that although the playoff format will remain the same, playoff seeding will not be entirely based on points acquired since there are so many Forfeits and DNPs due to the low activity of players. Therefore, it is in your best interest to PLAY games even if you already have a Forfeit win or tie. Thanks for your cooperation.
  19. Stat tracking will likely not be available for the next season. Number one priority is setting up league divisions with adequate participation, and setting up systems to make coach replacements easier for the admin staff to handle during the season. That being said, if those things come together nicely, we will start working towards stat tracking.
  20. Yea I agree, this was one of the more incredible NHL94 moments. Aside from not knowing a couple player names, this was an impeccable presentation from start to finish!!!!! Amazing how long this game has been around, and yet there is always something evolving regarding playing games. What a fantastically dedicated community we have, I love it!!!! Kudos to Auggie and Zyzzyvas on a fantastic game and for the work they put into making this happen.
  21. Due to the lack of activity by some players, administering all of the DNPs and Forfeits is going to take me awhile. I probably won't have it all done until Monday or Tuesday, or at least that's my best guess. I would say yes, if you can get games in prior to the playoff brackets being completed (most likely Wednesday or Thursday), PLEASE play more games and make my administration a little easier on me. I have no opposition to extending the deadline until I am done with my tasks. I assume Evan will agree, correct?
  22. Not sure how that happened folks, but I've changed it to 8-4 in favor of DET.
  23. Okay I removed the 2 Quebec games and the one PIT game as well. Hopefully those are all resolved now.
