  1. [OFFTOPIC mode: ON] FIFA is played on full-manual (as in manual aiming and power calibration for both shooting and passing) by anybody who isn't a casual or a 12 years old (which is probably 1% of the playerbase but let's not go there). In fact, the upcoming FIFA 11 mainly focuses on freedom of control and "playing into space" instead of "playing from player 2 player" with features such as "Pro Passing plus" and the likes. Also, I never once questioned Freyday's "hardcorness", he, on the other hand, implied that I wasn't enough of a hardcore gamer to play NHL 11 so I let him know what's up. Dunno about the rest of your comment though, in all honesty and with all the due respect there's got to be a difference between 40~ people tops (mainly from the US, Canada and Finland...do you even have that many tho...) playing 3~4 tournaments a year and hundreds of players from all over Europe playing several dozens of matches on daily basis, national leagues and international cups every month and more friendlies than we have numbers every single day since around 2004~ (and I'm not even taking into account the offline tournaments and the "regional" websites...). The competition in the SWOS scene is downright FIERCE; if you check the world ranking you'll see that some top-dogs have already gone through 6000~8000 official matches (not even kidding)... 2. Tell ya what, it actually looks like a bunch of blondes are making these games. Also, I'm probably one of the most hardcore videogame-guys you've ever met (was top 25 in the World and top 3 in my country at SWOS at some point, etc.), I used to write for several elecronic entertainment-related websites/magazines back in my early 20's and I still think that sometimes...less is more. Complexity does not always equal efficiency. There's plenty of ways to warrant gameplay depth, achieving it through convoluted controls is surely the cheapest one. As mentioned above forcing the players to think about execution instead of letting them focus on the flow of the game is bad game design and actually detracts from the experience as a whole. Assigning a button/combo to every single action is just the developers being lazy. As a general rule of thumb, control systems should be easy to pick up yet hard to master, not the other way around. Also, isn't the passing system semi-assisted? Where's the skill in that?
  3. This game's controls are so damn unnecessarily convoluted and retardedly overbloated I'm surprised these designers haven't been fired 2 or 3 years ago. Imho if 30 minutes into the game the players are still trying to figure out what-button-does-what instead of focusing onto the flow of the game, you're doin it wrong. Even modern days FIFA don't have that many buttons combination despite the fact that its gameplay allows for more freedom of control than any NHL game will ever achieve... Wtf they gonna do next, bundle NHL12 with a piano-controller from Rockband? /em goes back to NHL "94 and SWOS "96/"97, f**k this s**t.
  4. been posting "NHL 94 general" and "SWOS general" threads with tutorials and links to downloads on both /v/ or /sp/ for the past 3 months or so, no one gives a s**t. I went as far as creating an #nhl94 channel on irc/quakenet but no dice. They'd rather play either that shitty Hockey flash multiplayer game whose name escapes me atm or FIFA/PES. f**king casuals.
  5. Played with swos94 as well btw so I should be clear for the next tournament!
  6. Where can I find the Finnish players' AIM screen names (swos94 aside I mean)?
  7. Any room? I'd like to participate to the next season, especially if a bunch of euros are going to be playing as well! (although it doesn't look likely)
  8. got a test match done with beavers33, ping was a little high but our connection got better toward the end and the overall lag was bearable (I also always connect through Ethernet cables when I'm playing online games so that might've helped). I can't seem to be able to make Hamachi work on this machine but I'm very familiar with Kaillera, port forwarding and p2p multiplayer matches (that's what we generally use for SWOS "96/"97 as well) so I should be fine (I've also added a lot of people to AIM in the meanwhile) but let's wait for beavers33's evaluation
  9. Hello everybody, I've stumbled upon this great website while looking for NHL 94 videos on YouTube and even though I haven't played NHL in ages I'm planning to get back into it asap! Hopefully I'll be able to join you guys online as well, despite the distance that separates us (I suppose that most of the people on this site are from the US while I'm located in Italy, actually born and raised here)! By the way, thanks a lot to mcarthurbsu33 who took the time to play a "test match" with me earlier this evening (I got my ass kicked but it was lots of fun nonetheless!). See ya'll later!
  10. I've just finished filling the form and I'm willing to play a test match anytime...any volunteer? my AIM screen name is SearainWAR
  11. AIM screen name: SearainWAR e-mail is searainwar@aim.com
  12. Yo man, add me onto your AIM friendlist, my screen name is SearainWAR
  13. Is there a chat? How do you guys contact each other and arrange friendlies and stuff? I'd really like to try this online.
  14. Is the forum dead or what I don't mean to be disrespectful or anything, however one would think that being NHL 94 such an archaic and un-popular (albeit amazing) game at this time and age you'd actually want to lure new people in...
  15. Yo, I've just found out about this great site and was left wondering if there's a chat wherein you can talk to other fellow NHL 94 players and arrange matches and stuff. Also, I can't seem to be able to make Hamachi work on my machine for some reason, can I just play online through Kaillera (I'm familiar with port forwarding and hosting p2p matches) instead? I'm kinda undecided regarding which version I should pick up, I used to play on SNES back in the day but dunno, what's the best/most popular one, SNES or Gens? Thanks in advance for your help!
