  4. Yeah, I played some exis with FPB too and connected to him, and thought "this is so much easier without Hamachi". But I see now it was only easy on my end. On the "server" end it takes some technical know how. (And come to think of it, we had trouble connecting the first game, too.)
  5. Surely your times are off? I think it takes about 1/5th of a second at least, which is 200 milliseconds? So I am assuming you mean 170 milliseconds, right?
  6. To me, this is the most interesting concept. As you say, this is how it was meant to be. And in my opinion the best options are the usual "penalties on, off sides off".
  7. I don't know anything about Twitch, but I see I am able to watch these games that Bo and Raph shared links to? And I know that it is a real hassle to make watchable video files out of krecs. Soooo... is Twitch now the easiest way for me to record games for easy playback? (Where you can pause, or reqind easily, unlike the GENs krec player?) I did try to download the videos with Video Download Helper, but they are split up flash files, so that is a bit of a bummer...
  8. Jim Simmons is the guy. He made this game. He made a masterpiece in the very first NHL Hockey, and all the way up to NHLPA '93, and Mark Lesser added some great bells and whistles on what was already a masterpiece. I am interested in: 1. Has he ever checked out this site? (NHL94.com) 2. What did he think of NHL'94, and the work of Mark Lesser? Also, I would seriously encourage him to recreate this game in a modern language. There have been hundreds of hockey games programmed. His was the only one that had the magic. Other people made snowmen. He made friggin Frosty the Snowman that came to life and could dance and sing! He is a super talented programmer that has the Midas touch to make gold. (As many people are aware, he also made the early Madden games.) I truly believe he is much more talented than he himself believes! In a world of hacks composing Chopsticks over and over he is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart making magic that will live forever. So.... 3. Ask him if a kick starter raised $100,000 would he take a contract -- with all $$$ going to him -- to recreate this game in a modern language, and make it open source with no license restrictions, so others can modify it? This would be the ultimate dream!!! I know for a fact he still programs using modern technology, so he is totally capable of recreating his magic but in modern form. I bet we could get the community to contribute music and pixel art, and have him do the code. Mikey, use your powers of persuasion to get him to consider this!! (That would be a great angle for the documentary, too!) Wow, I am excited just thinking about this whole idea!
  9. So Raph, you are with Plabax? The only ingredient in good checking is weight? Because to me, Gilmour and Roenick -- same weight as Gretsky -- are waaaaay better at crushing guys than 99? (Although maybe because of other high attributes that 99 doesn't have, they are better at "lining up" checks, so it merely seems like they are better at actually checking?) Thanks HABS, I am going to look into high aggressiveness combined with low weight to see if there is a checking correlation. (Again, Gretsky probably has a 0 aggressiveness, so it fits in this one instance, anyway.)
  10. Ok, I am changing my milestones, and would like to add one. The new one is "understanding the significance of Stickhandling". Again, I think it is Plabax that gets credit for figuring out how stickhandling plays a big role in not coughing up the puck when challenged (as well as the use of the word "toddle", which I see used more on these boards than at any other point in the history of the English language). I am not sure exactly when he figured this out, but a guess is below? I am amazed that he is so good at playing the game, as well as dissecting and understanding it on a deeper level, making connections that other people never did before him. Also, Swos PMed me to tell me that Finnish guys were using pass shots before 2001, and the first version of this site existed! I have talked with other guys that say the did them back in the day (pre-NHL94.com), too. So here are some edited milestones: < 2001 - Finns (and others) use pass shots 2005 - Cr0ssbar really develops Pass Shot < 2007 - People are aware of weight bug 2008 - Smozoma fixes weight bug at a code level for Blitz ROMs 2011?? - Plabax discovers significance of Stickhandling relating to holding on to puck 2014 - Plabax invents/discovers CB check What other milestones are there?
  11. I know that weight figures heavily (no pun intended) in checking ability, and that (strangely) checking does not! (That is, Checking is actually how often a player will check when controlled by AI.) But weight is not the only stat that matters. Some guys, like Gretzky, are light, yet still don't easily send people to the ice like a Gilmour, Theo or Roenick, among others. So what other attributes affect checking? Or is it something else? (Not sure what else besides stats it could be, but who knows?)
  12. I don't follow? Which number do I have wrong? For example, using Plabax I say: +200 you divide 100 by 200, which gives .50, which means you have to wager $50 to make $100, which is ultimately a 50% chance of winning it all? What part is off? (Or have I bungled the whole thing so thoroughly none of it makes sense? Ultimately, what I want to know is what are the odds of each person wining? Is Plabax 50% likely? Raph 33%? Dexpsu83 1.3%? Cuz if I knew that part it would make the most sense to me... looking at +7500 and the like makes my brain hurt.)
  13. So I had to google "American Betting Odds" to make sense of these figures... To take the whole thing you say: 1. Pesky Plabax +200 2. kingraph +300 .... 16. Dexpsu83 +7500 As I understand it, the figures are how much $$ needs to be wagered to make $100, and what you do is, for: +200 you divide 100 by 200, which gives .50, which means you have to wager $50 to make $100, which is ultimately a 50% chance of winning it all? +300 you divide 100 by 300, which gives .33, which translates to a 33% chance of winning it all? +7500 you divide 100 by which gives .013, which translates to a 1.3% chance of winning it all? Do I have this right? (Especially the % chance of winning it all, which is what my brain can understand the best?)
  14. Wow, what a write-up! I am amazed at the quality of the writing and analysis, and that you had time to put it together so quickly? Two thumbs waaay up!
  15. We got our games in. My season is 100% done! Finished dead last, too! One thing about VC: For me on AIM, VC (who showed up as "Dan Snyder") was not available to message. He was always grey, even when others verified for them he was blue. This created a difficult situation for getting our games going. (KingRaph posited perhaps he had blocked AIM mssgs from ppl not in his contact list?)
  16. Can we schedule out 4 games for Tue at 10pm? Thanks. Also, as I said in a PM, I am a little concerned because you mentioned you were online for the last time we were scheduled to play, but I guarantee "Dan Snyder" was grey, and I could not send PMs. But if you pencil me in for Tue at 10pm I will be reay 100%. And if AIM doesn't happen, we can PM here.
  17. Ok I was there for 4pm today but guess u couldn'y make it. (You did say "probably" so I an not freaking out ) Still, u r my last games, and I am open to scheduling way in advance. As I say, 8-10pm EST is best but I will make exceptions if we plan ahead. Thx.
  18. Ok, today I am not free until after 9, which (in your PM) you said is too late. Can we say tomorrow (Sunday) at 4pm EST?
  19. Does he use AIM? I don't see any Dan Snyder in the GDL group? In the mean time I will PM CamNeely here on the forum.
  20. Does AIM Messenger say: Shoot, something appears to be wrong on our end. Please give us a few minutes and try again. for everyone, or is it just me? LITERALLY it says this 75% of the time. Is this an Anti-Canada thing, or is it just he biggest POS the world has ever seen?
  21. I did not. That was the problem! Thanks! Do I just leave "TeamOffset Hex" at "30E"? (I did, but want to make sure.) Thanks a lot, QD!
