  1. We are helping a fellow tournament player(Ryan Murdock aka Ryan Kent) by spreading the word on his family member's cancer benefit in Green Bay. We are going to award free entry to someone who share's our post on Facebook, and for every paid entry between now and Jan 23rd, we will be donating $10 to the cause, up to $150. Please go to this post and share it, and tag Edge of 94 WI using the "@" so we know you heard about it from us. https://www.facebook.com/events/266645277532014/permalink/288425945353947/ is the link to the benefit. If you can't attend the benefit but wish to donate something to be raffled or make a donation, make a post on that event thread so you can be directed on how to make a donation. Thanks for your help buds, they sure could use some.
  2. Thanks to all who took advantage of the early bird signup! As it stands January 1st, we have 17 players already signed up/paid, which is just under half of our total turnout last time. The prize drawings for early signup will be conducted and distributed the day of the tournament. In the coming days and weeks, we will be aggressive on social media, trying to get the word out. Those that help us in our cause will have additional opportunities to win prizes. Please stay tuned on our social media platforms. Descriptions of what to do with a specific post will be on said post. Things like tagging friends in posts, sharing the post, commenting, and ultimately, if a tagged person signs up will all increase your chances of winning said prize. This will be spelled out clearly, and the giveaways will be done on Facebook live. If you haven't yet, please like us on Facebook, and mark yourself going or interested on our event page for "Barry Melrose Place" https://www.facebook.com/gbnhl94/ is our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/485900961920955/ is our event page. @trojanvoice is the Twitter account to follow. And of course, commenting on this thread is always appreciated, keeping it relevant and visible to the community at large.

  4. Picked up a sealed Ed Belfour prize for early giveaway! Not sure what's up with the pink glove and blocker, perhaps time, or a bad run.(Maybe that makes it rare?) Anyway, get signed up today! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXfwj_wK9Zzjr2nlfIAT5F0U0dexpmqo3xU3gdAsIWeVFOLQ/viewform?fbclid=IwAR03RUPBUbySFMouvm_9Tdo8qmiC-T2m9lW-7oRVkjPCSmIBI9tqykcpwWA
  5. I was interested in being in this originally but found out after it had started. If I can help fill the gap by losing some games for @angryjay93, let me know.
  6. All are great choices. Arda having been in multiple spotlights adds another layer of legitimacy of our community in the Esports conversation. He surely is building a brand of himself as "go to guy" in the Esports world, especially in the retro conversation. It was a pleasure to have him in Green Bay, and his commentary was beyond entertaining. As an aspiring amateur, I definitely look up to what he's accomplished. AJ is the epitome of humble, traveled, accomplished, and mentor when it comes to 94. The fact that he even came back after being struck down by illness in Green Bay to force 3 games against Kingraph puts him in a special place. It would have been nice to see them battle it out in Vancouver again. Chaos is continually seen helping buds online get different solutions working for playing their games, and then of course league management. As far as online NHL94 is considered, there is no better resource out there. I submit there is a choice that many of you don't even know exists. Tom Stahnke the Retro Sports Gamer has done a tremendous job (re)introducing NHL94 to the greater Chicago community, and greatly supported our tournament back in February, and will be doing so again in 2019. His coverage of the Green Bay tournament was stellar, stable, and a great add when we had issues with our own stream. Without him we would have lost great games to the void. The video documentation of player vs player completion on the local level is something that doesn't exist in great abundance. I feel his efforts will continue to be instrumental in the growth and development of players for years to come. This year he held a NHL94 Genesis tournament in Chicago that attracted the likes of Angryjay93, EA, and Brutus, while bringing a bunch of other retro gamers into NHL94, many of which will be at our Green Bay tournament in 2019. In addition, this January he is running a 4 retro sports tournament consisting of Tecmo Super Bowl, NBA Jam TE, RBI Baseball, and NHL94 on Genesis. They are also(with the help of legendary Tecmo player Mort) starting a local NHL94 Gens league. Tom would never ask for this recognition, either in nomination or actual victory. He's actually pretty poor at 94 at this point(who cares). I wanted to take a moment and share that what he's doing is special, and the community should be aware of it, even if he doesn't live in the forums or our Discord. You can find him on YouTube and should subscribe. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_b9V5HP0eJZyLuhuEmDf_g?pbjreload=10
  7. Perhaps they can add him to Mutant League Hockey.
  8. Perhaps they bring back Zarley Zalapski "Weekend at Bernies" style. #toosoon #rip
  9. I prefer stacking as many defenders in the path of a would be one timer recipient, then try and skate manual with the goalie whenever possible.
  10. Picked up some more exclusive goodies for those that sign up before January 1st.(They are on order, not actual photos, but same player and year figures)
  11. I've found that oftentimes "out of the box" the emulator will bind both your player 1 and player 2 controls to a single controller. Thus, when you hit a directional button in the opening menu, it moves extremely fast. Make sure you set your player 2 to something other than you primary controller to avoid this issue. Those wanting help getting their firewall ports forwarded for direct connect(No relay server) to avoid huge lag spikes may contact me on the NHL94 Discord(Trojan)
  12. @kingraph has decided to grace us with his presence one more time. All hail the reigning, defending, Gens and SNES champion!
  13. Want access to exclusive prize giveaways at our tournament? Today we unveil the 2nd prize, EXCLUSIVE to those that register/pay prior to January 1st! Love games like Ice Hockey, Tecmo Super Bowl, RBI Baseball, Mega Man 2 and Super Mario Bros 3? The Gamerztek 8 BIT HD is a system that will pay your original NES cartridges via analogue displays via composite, or via HDTV's via HDMI. It includes all the cables you need for both, as well as two controllers(They are very comfortable and responsive). The console is top loading, so games are much more reliable vs your typical original NES consoles. This console is a $40 value. You are automatically entered to win this prize if you register before January 1st!
  14. As per @kingraph's suggestion, the Registration link is live. https://tinyurl.com/2018NHL94 Also, here's our first prize giveaway for those that register and pay before January 1st. The Gamerztek 16 Bit HD is our official clone console, which can play on standard definition via composite on your CRT, or on your HD display via HDMI. The included controllers are fantastic, and they do support original style SNES controllers. This is a $50 value, and will be given away to a lucky early registrant the day of the tournament!
  15. Players that send in their registration payment prior to January 1st will be eligible for exclusive prize giveaways. Let's get those sign ups in. We will share what these prizes are in the coming days and weeks leading up to the deadline!
  16. Here are the original 10 questions: Name, age, occupation, location, system Troy, 39, Purchasing/IT Director, Green Bay, WI, Love both Gens/SNES What hobbies or other interests do you have? I run the Edge of 94 WI annual NHL94 tournament in Green Bay, as well as Tecmo Super Bowl tournaments. I also commentate for my own tournaments, as well as other tournaments across the country(mainly Tecmo Super Bowl). My background is in music, so if you spend enough time with me, you will be subjected to my voice. When did you get introduced to the game NHL'94? How did it happen? NHL Hockey on DOS is what I cut my teeth on. I missed out on the Genesis and SNES versions as I thought the digitized voices and music on VGA couldn't be beat. I revisited the conversation years later as emulators started becoming a thing. I eventually bought a Genesis and a copy of the game and was immediately hooked. Only in the last couple of years have I given the SNES version a look. It took awhile to adjust to it, but I'm very much a fan of it. When did you get introduced to nhl94.com and the online community? Were you playing between these two dates? (That is, between first becoming aware of game, and first becoming aware of nhl94.com.) I've been running video game events since 2001, and retro events since 2015(mainly Tecmo Super Bowl). At the request of some of my attendees, I decided to investigate what would be involved in running an NHL94 tournament. I initially stumbled upon a video by Chris Alaimo, better known as Classic Gaming Quarterly. His history of NHL94 video brought me to this page. It's a good watch if you haven't seen it. Afterwards, I discovered the existence of King of 94, connected with Halifax and Mikey, got their advice and started running events, and eventually found myself playing people online. What are a couple things that you love about the game? When played with typical tournament rules(5 min periods, no line changes, penalties on no offsides) the game because the ultimate pick up and put down game. As a two job(somtimes 3 job)parent of 3 boys and a husband, I loved the idea of getting in game or two, with little perpetual impact to my personal or professional life. I generally find it easy to execute what you want to from a control standpoint. Star players feel elite in your hands as you would expect them to. Are you a gamer in general? What other games do you play? Gaming for better and worse has been my preferred form of entertainment over TV and movies since childhood. I'm a big fan of Tecmo Super Bowl, Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting, Mortal Kombat I and II, Starcraft, Heroes of the Storm and others. Again time being at a premium, these days it's fairly limited. Do you follow hockey in real life? Any other sports? I introduced my oldest son(many of you met him at our last tournament) to hockey about 5 years ago. The Chicago Blackhawks were on TV often, and they were winning Stanley Cups then. Ed Belfour was my favorite player in NHL94, so even though I couldn't watch their games in the 90's, I had always wanted to. I have another son who cheers for the Bruins, and we almost gave him up for adoption. We've decided to let him stay in the house. If you have been to a live tourney, what was it like meeting the real people behind the screen names? Any big surprises? The Edge of 94 WI Green Bay tournaments are my only exposure so far to live tournament play. What shocked me was the skill gap when Angryjay93 became a part of our tribe. It really opened my eyes to what was possible in the game. As widespread tournaments for 94 are not as common as say Tecmo Super Bowl, the fact that we used CRT screens exclusively seemed like a no brainer. However, in speaking with other traveling players, it seems like there was a mix of display technologies used at other tournaments. When interacting with anyone traveling to play this game, it's evident the passion and regard they hold for it. I merely adopted the love of this game, but it feels as if many were born with it. What is behind your screen name? (Origin story, if there is one.) Trojan, aka Trojan1979 or Troy GBLAN.... My real name is Troy, and the mascot where my folks attended high school was the Trojans. It made sense. The Trojan1979 is my Twitch channel, and Troy GBLAN stands for my first name, and GBLAN being the LAN Party/Tecmo group I run. Favorite NHL94 player in game (and why)? Cause reasons
  17. In our tournament play, we go by EA's motto(company not player) If it's in the GA, "It's in the GA". Pass shots, CB checks, goals at the buzzer, goals after the whistle, goals paired with interference penalties, whatever. The exception is the stalling tactic on your own end of the ice. It sucks to be on the bad end of some of these things, but ultimately we are playing a digital representation of hockey, not hockey itself.
  18. Your being there would go a long way in establishing some anchors, as we try to build this every year. I'm trying very hard to get people out of this "I only play this system" mentality. I hope they instead say, "hey I get a free chance to try the other game with my entry". I was hoping Jammer and some Vancouver guys could come, and a Bob Kudelski sighting wouldn't hurt the cause either. We are all just pot feeders down here in Green Bay, minus a few up and comers.
