The Russian Rocket Posted May 3, 2009 Report Share Posted May 3, 2009 This edition of the blitz league playoffs just gave out it's first series, and also it's first upset, as FPB the coach of the detroit red wings, beat VC and it's jets' in a 7 games series. A great duel between Steve Yzerman and Teemu Selanne, but Yzerman prevailed scoring 22 goals in the first series. Game 1 4-3 DET (OT) Yzerman scores a game tying goal with 26 seconds left, and pots the OT winner, he scored all the red wings goals in that game, great game by Andy Moog who stopped 83% of the shots directed to him frustrating selanne 6 times out of 8. Game 2 7-3 DET The hero of this game isn't Yzerman, even if he scored 3 goals, it is Craig Simpson with 1 goal and 4 assists. Andy Moog again pulled a good performance with 78% save. Game 3 7-6 WIN (OT) The story of this game, was the duel between both team's champion. Yzerman and Selanne, getting both identical scoring 5 goals and 1 assist, then a contreversial penalty shot goal occured, as Selanne shooted after the whistle, but Kerry Fraser said it counted anyway. This drama set up the table for a Ot winner by Al Macinnis who, skated from coast to coast to put it behind a shaky ANdy Moog who only stoipped 50% of the shots compared to a slolid 68% from Sean Burke Game 4 4-2 WIN This game was dominated by only one man, Teemu Selanne, 3 quick goals who cutted the Wings' legs. Then Sean Burke closed the door to the wings' attacks finishing the night with 75% of saves. Game 5 7-2 DET As the red wings returned to the WInnipeg Arena, they had the sacred fire in the eyes, wishing for revenge after loosing two games in front of theyre fans. Again Craig Simpson led the charge with 4 goals and 1 pass, Winnipeg only scored twice, courtesy of Eklund and Macinnis. Game 6 6-5 WIN (OT) With theyr backs agains the wall, the Jets pulled off an overtime win at Jos Louis' Arena. Again an other great duel between Selanne and Yzerman both notching 4 goals. Yzerman forced the overtime with 24 seconds left, but Selanne closed the door to an evantual 6 game series by scoring with 34 seconds left. Game 7 4-3 DET Both teams we're determined to win this series, as the Jets took an early 2-0 lead, Yzerman answered back with 2 goals of his own. Then big Al seemed to smash the hopes of the Wings, with a slapper from the blueline, the Wings seemed decimated and we're unable to do anything worthwhile. That's until Yzerman came up with the puck, putting a slapper in, tying the game, again with little time to go. Then the Finnish Grinder, Esa Tikkanen, got a loose puck in the crease and scored on his backhand, with only 26 second left. Yzerman won the faceoff and it was all over. The wings celebrated that victory in theyr locker room, after a harsh and long battle to the Winnipeg Jets, we could see some tears in the eyes of Teemu Selanne, who kept up an average of 3,2 Points a game in that Series.
