DaDonch44
GDL Sports - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada --- kgman has issued a self-imposed 1 game suspension on his own player, Bob Bassen, after an alleged cheap shot in tonight's 6-2 victory over the New York Rangers. Immediately following the opening faceoff, Bassen leveled Mats Sundin, causing Sundin to be injured for the entire game only two (:02) seconds into the action. After the contest, kgman met with the GDLPA and a decision was made to enforce the suspension. It is unclear who the suspension will be served against as of yet, but when reached for comment kgman had this to say of the situation: "The Winnipeg Jets support player safety and will try to crack down on these types of plays. The GDLPA decision is final and the "Bassen Rule" shall now be enforced. Bob will donate his 1 day salary to the Mats Sundin Feed-a-Swede Foundation and will attend anger management class". kingraph
New York Daily News - New York, NY The New York Rangers head coach was outraged after last night's 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, screaming at the press conference, "2 seconds??? Really? I think it's pretty obvious coach kgman told Bob Bassen to go and knock out Sundin. And [bassen] only gets two minutes? What's with these refs???" The hit knocked out the Rangers star forward for the game and the Rangers could not recover. While Ray Ferraro played well, the team chemistry was missing. Lingering concussion symptoms were apparent in the next game as Sundin managed to tally up just 1 point, well below his season average. The only possible explanation was the hit the night before. The Garden crowd also took issue with the hit and started to replace the familiar "Potvin Sucks" chants heard at every Rangers game with "Bassen Sucks". The two teams can potentially meet again in the playoffs, but it's too early to tell what the playoff scenarios will look like now. Asked if he plans any retaliatory actions should the two teams meet again, coach KingRaph said, "Of course not. We play fair. It's not like I would tell Gord Hynes to check Lemieux in the head if he decides to come down the center of the ice" - GGS
