  1. UPDATE: Not sure how but when editing rosters 1 VERY IMPORTANT player somehow was missing. Noticed it when I was playing as Washington, Rod Langway back to back Norris winner, Hall of Famer, somehow got overwritten when I was touching up rosters and wasn't there. So I re added him here, that's the only change from the other download NHL All-Time.bin
  2. MY FINISHED HACK! Wayyy better with wayyy more stuff than my original. Now it's an actual 34 team romhack and not just rosters lol.
  3. Here it is! Completely revamped and powered up, my All Time Legends roster hack! I'll try and re-explain and summarize what this hack is about I wanted to keep it as Vanilla 95 as far as the aesthetics as possible, other than splash/intro screens and some of the team banners/logos (Special Thanks to von Ozbourne for helping with that stuff!) I considered making the ice darker like NHL 94 for example but, kept it the light default color, since 95 players probably prefer that. Other small changes that are unique are the pre-game menu team ratings, they're all high of course, based on how many finals they reached, stanley cups each team won, how often they made the playoffs, the actual level of legends their franchise has had over the years, etc. The goal of this was to have rosters for each team made up of players who 1. Played for that franchise for the most games/seasons 2. Scored the most points for that specific franchise 3. Were important players during a special season or winning season for that team. Most players are around the top 20 of all time scorers for the specific franchise, with some exceptions for defenseman, and other situations. Some examples of this would be: Ray Bourque being on Colorado even though he only played there for 2 seasons, because he won the cup there, or Chris Pronger on Anaheim for the same reason. No player will be on more than 3 teams total in this game! This game was meant to be played for Season Mode with Edit Lines on and Penalties on (no offsides of course). Specifically it was made for doing full-control seasons, without simulating any games automatically, since simulating typically is unbalanced as far as team records are concerned. See what team is truly the greatest team in a whole season! I've been doing it by having the cpu play eachother in many of the games (7 minutes is recommended for that with fast forward on your emulator, gets more goals from the cpu!) and then just playing a few games for each team. It's kind of a cool way to nerd out, follow your own season and all the stats for each player/team if you're bored and just wanna play offline! But also, it was meant to be played in historically accurate playoff series! Playoff mode was carefully edited to have every single season's 16 playoff teams be from an actual NHL season, from 91-92 through 22-23. Of course later seasons use the 1-4 1-4 so, for those they simply match up so the top two matchups on the playoff tree in each conference are from one division, and the bottom two matchups are from the other! Some adjustments to the schedule had to be made but all 26 original teams are in Season Mode, yet still all 32 teams (plus all star teams) are in the game! This is a big issue for all the other NHL 95 34 team hacks out there. The teams used in Season Mode are alphabetical, so if you put them A-Z, some important teams are left out. Instead, The original 26 franchises are A-Z, and then the 6 new franchises are A-Z following. Since it's a 'All Time Hack' it makes more sense to use franchises that have been around for 3 decades or more. The 1 team I was unsure what to do with was Winnipeg, as they take up two franchises, so I just decided to have Winnipeg be used in Season Mode as that city has a much richer hockey history than Arizona, and I simply combined players from both franchises since they are both technically Winnipeg from a historical standpoint! Arizona is just players from the original Winnipeg franchise and Phoenix/Arizona. So of course, there have been many other all time roster hacks over the years, so I needed to do something different for this to stand out. The main difference is: Using different players from many different decades for more variety. I wanted to have current players who are still increasing their points and games played for their current franchise on every team! So for example you might see a roster like Montreal and think hey, a few of these guys aren't among their 'best players ever.' Mind you there's a Max of 26 players on each team, with at least 2 being goalies, so Original 6 teams were the hardest to do. But I wanted players from the important seasons for each team, and spread across many decades on those teams. Teams like Montreal might not have as many 'historic legends' from the last 30 years but, those players still are important to their history, especially the ones up there in the all time games played list for the team. It would be boring and repetitive to just have only dynasty players for those teams! Take Philadelphia, players included would be from Philadelphia's 70s, 80s, 97, and 2010 finals teams, mixed in with a couple of their best current players, and other players among the top 15 in Games/Points. It makes the rosters different from these other hacks, and you still have the choice to use only those dynasty and top top legend teams for your Edit Lines. Hopefully I've explained the rosters well enough! I know some people will see a few players and think 'WHY IS HE HERE, AND NOT HIM?' But I can assure you pretty much all the obvious players for each franchise will be there. I definitely didn't go back further than the 1940s as my knowledge doesn't go that far back, and there's already such a wide player pool for the original 6. On top of that, you're really only using 9 forwards and 6 defenseman for the lines, 1 goalie, so I figure hey, the important guys will be on the lines, and if you disagree with some of them, change the lines, open NOSE and change the default lines or edit a few players yourself if you want, make it your own! Anyway, forgive the essay of describing lol I'll shutup now Hope some people truly enjoy this hack! NHL 95 All-Time Legends.bin
  4. This is so awesome, like I'm just a noob who edits rosters here lol. This is like, a literal masterpiece. If this was just a small project to scratch the itch, I can't imagine how amazing some of the stuff you've done is! Can I hire you to help me make hacks? Lol!
  5. Just wondered if anyone would be willing to edit something for me in my romhack. I can use NOSE but that's about it when it comes to hacking. I dont really know anyone well around here yet so I guess I just am hoping someone with a heart of gold could give me 20 minutes (assuming this would be easy for a pro) to help! I put 2 weeks into making this cool roster hack and I just wish I could get someone to help me finish this final thing so it would be a respectable hack for people to enjoy. I want to replace the Colorado and Carolina center ice logos, and the banners that show up like in the playoff menu and whatnot. Maybe even the pause menu names where it says Nordiques and Whalers on the scoreboard. There's romhacks like Macks Hacks that already have these logos, it seems like it'd be easy for someone that knows how to use hex to just copy and paste it? Ive not been able to learn how to do any of the hex stuff at this point, for several reasons, Im not trying to seek pity but I live with a lot of mental and physical disabilities and learning something new like this, is extremely frustrating and difficult. And I dont wanna put myself into an all night migraine and ruin an entire day just because my game doesnt have the right logos. I already did that once while trying to figure it all out! I guess I just feel really stupid here, and I have to just accept that I'll never be able to finish my hack fully myself so, I may as well ask if anyone's willing to help
  6. Heres the link to the other post! Wanted to share this here for people who are only into NHL 95. I didnt wanna just copy/paste it all though. Let me know if anyone wants to pick a team and join my special simulation season! The picker of the Stanley Cup winning team will win a game donated from me on Steam!
  7. INTRO: Yo! So as the title says, my goal for this romhack was to create an all-time rosters game for NHL 95, specifically used for season mode will line changes ON! This of course means 26 teams. Now I'm not a romhacking pro so, I don't know how to change logos and banners. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO HELP UPDATE THIS, LET ME KNOW! I'd love to have Carolina/Colorado get their proper logos on center ice, and proper banners in the menus. I'm having people choose the team they think will win the cup, and I will be donating a game on Steam to the person who controls the winning team! A few teams are already taken but, feel free to follow and check for updates to see who's ahead. There's going to be stuff people disagree with as there's only so much space on a rom but, I wanted this to be different than every other 'all time' rom. When I say 'all time' that means teams will have players from every era, even if some era's don't have any hall of famers for a specific team, I still want 1-2 players from every decade represented! So all your obvious players will be there but, many of the extra slot players will be more uniquely selected than your average 'all time' romhack. Stuff like, playing longer than anyone else did in a specific era for that franchise and being on a finals team would make someone eligible, over someone who was the 10th best player on a dynasty type team with 9 other players on the roster already. Eventually I'll shift some stuff up though for future seasons! UPDATE: Have found someone to help with replacing Colorado/Carolina, and I also have added some players to teams with space via moving around the free bytes. I also am going through teams I may have done faster and correcting the left/right handedness. A few of the teams I rushed through and messed up the handedness as I was so anxious to finally start playing it and testing it out. I am going to wait until I complete the fixes before releasing an update! I also will be eventually porting this to NHL 94 with the hack applicator to fix the 94 weight bug, and a few other small 94 changes that aren't doable for 95. THE ROSTERS: THE BEST PART! I spent 2 weeks just doing these rosters with Hockey Reference up the entire time. The players chosen are based on 3 things: How many seasons and games played, and points scored for that franchise (not in their whole career, JUST FOR THAT TEAM!), players who did something special for a specific team that they also were on for several seasons, and players who were on stanley cup teams, and also finals appearing teams, especially for those who've never won the cup or been to only a few finals. Players need to have generally played 5-6 years for each franchise. There's a few exceptions of course, if they did something important for a team like, Ray Bourque on Colorado winning the cup, Selanne on the Jets scoring 76 goals and winning the Calder, etc. The players were made with accurate weights, numbers, hands, and ratings based on how each player played for that specific team. So Gretzky is going to have a better rating on the Oilers than the Kings or Rangers, for example. No player will be on more than 3 teams. I wanted to have some very oldschool players, some 80s 90s players, some 00s-10s players, and some current roster players, for each team as well. Also, because of the limit on number of forwards, some forwards will be forced to be listed as defenseman. But you can still use NOSE to put them as forward in lines easily if you want! THE RATINGS: Player ratings will also have specific balances. Endurance will be 4 or 5 for every player, since it's an Edit Lines rom. All ratings will between 3-6 except roughness, checking, and aggression which will be between 1-4. This is simply how the games ratings work, as generally there's only a few players with a 4 rating on checking and none are higher. Otherwise, you get 50 penalties a game. Your overall ratings for each player will be all over 70, with only the best of the best at 90 and higher. Goalies will generally be around 80-85 since goaltending is kinda easier in NHL95, but none will be over 91. Again, this is the GOAT players/teams. There's no reason to have anyone under a 70 on your legend team, that's just not fun! The average rating in the game is probably like 83. Also, weights are balanced, generally between 6-A with a few higher and a few lower. None will be above B. EXTRA NOTES: I'm using Winnipeg with players from BOTH FRANCHISES since they do have two franchises worth of history. They're the only team with this unique situation but, I feel it's only fair. There's a few other tiny issues like player name length, I tried using full names but, some I shortened a bit, and may have to shorten some more like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Oliver Ekman-Larsson so they don't stretch off the right side! I did on one occasion score with Ryan and it had a small bug where a letter stayed on the screen after the goal. Simply pressing start twice to go into and out of the options fixed that in literally 1 second. But there's only 2 players with names this long so, I wouldn't worry about it. Player numbers are accurate BUT, in some cases I used a number that a player wore on a different team, due to there being 3 players on the same team with the same number. In some cases, I just left 2 players with the same number but, only if I absolutely had to, to avoid using a fictional number. But those players are generally separated between offense defense, and it's easy to tell anyways with the position indicators. Some teams I did a bit faster than others, so some of the left/right handed is still incorrect, and simply balanced. However a very good portion of the players have their correct hand. I plan on redoing some ratings and re checking things after my first season, but this took forever, and I wanted to just play the game already! NHL 95 WIDE! ALL TIME!.bin
  8. Thanks for the info guys! I assumed it just did nothing as I'd goofed around with it before. A few stats in the games seem to have pros and cons to them being maxed out, just been goofing around with that! There's so much knowledge out there on retro games now, including the NHL EA games, but there's still stuff people haven't figured out. Like adding a season mode to NHL 94 and really crazy stuff like that. The chase never ends!
  9. Right on Thank you! I assumed that was the case I specialize in offline content more than online, I hope to share some things with the community that others will be able to enjoy and I feel like this patch is a big help to that! I got a lot to learn with hacking though. I'd love if somehow 95 could get the same stat usage but it's really not the end of the world. You'd think it would be possible though. Weirdly Stick Handing actually uses 0-9 and A-F but the same number is used for 3 in a row, like 6 7 and 8 all being 47-62 This is just a side question but, you clearly know way more than me so Id love to see if you know. So all of the stats in NOSE actually go behind 99, except they simply say !!!! Hex 7, !!!! Hex 8, etc all the way up to !!!! Hex F. BUT you can see they raise the player's overall when you use 1 of these. But my question is, what would happen if you actually used these? Would it simply break the game and it wouldn't run, would it make the player's abilities extremely overpowered, or would it do absolutely nothing? If you put everything to F, the player overall is 273 lmao!
  10. Gotcha TY for the reply, I just wondered cause I was working on a 'legends teams' hack for 95 to do a special season with and figured if it did work, I could use the stats from that, then port it to 94. But it's taking FOREVER to individually do like 625 or so players stats to be realistic lol. So I'll likely have to use the normal game. Question though, what would happen if I had a NHL 94 rom with all edited player rosters/stats/lines and used this hack applicator? I assume it would still work to apply the patches if I'm only making simple changes in NOSE right?
  11. That's wild that they're backwards like this! I honestly never had a clue about that. Checking always seemed funky compared to 95 though so it makes sense. Things like this absolutely happened frequently in games back in the day though. Pokemon games, which may be the most romhacked games on the planet if you're not familiar, are famous for the original Red/Blue generation having literally the same reverse effect with Critical hit boosting. Making it higher actually lessened the chance of a critical hit lmao. Just a random example! The price to pay for games not being updatable on console back then. But I'd still take a few issues like this over the constant patches/updates/DLC/Pay2Win of modern games
  12. I was unable to get this to work sadly. After properly applying the update and replacing the ini files, and then attempting to open the updated NHL94 rom file in NOSE, I get that message saying this does not appear to be a usable rom. Any ideas?
  13. Is there a way to use any of this on games besides NHL 95? Specifically the 0-15 ratings? That would be amazing to have for other NHL games! Im assuming even if you update NOSE to have 0-15 ratings, it won't just automatically work with NHL 95?
  14. Hi there, so I realize this is a very old post and this might not get seen but, Could someone explain what the weight bug is? And is it JUST for NHL 94? Or other games too? I could take a few guesses as what the weight bug is but, I really am not sure, could anyone explain it? And also couldn't someone just use NOSE to make all the players in the game have the same weight so they all can check eachother equally? That might be boring but, IDK. Maybe make all of them close? Instead of say, 1-10 skill, make everyone between 4 and 6 so even the lower ones still have a good chance to check? Or is that not how it works. Please explain lol!
  15. I know this is old but, love that theres an actual post on this! I used to go through and try to figure out who everyone was. Its cool they put some effort into these! And a lot of the best teams at the time did have a team here, the Rangers, Bruins, Canadiens, Kings, Red Wings, Blues, Penguins, Flyers, Blackhawks,,, the only team that really wasnt, cause they were a brand new team in 92-93, was the Sharks lol. Funny they put them in and not say, the Leafs who were 1 game from the finals, or Quebec who was the #1 seed in the east in the playoffs that year I believe with that stacked offense! I always wished this game got a romhack. Would have been amazing to see the non-NHL teams turned into NHL teams with more spoofs for example. Oh and just a quick edit, I always thought the Screaming Evils woulda been the New Jersey Devils but, Eagles makes sense too lol. Maybe they're like the Ice Slashers where it's a copied over team that's meant to be the Devils but without proper gimmick names?
  16. Managed to figure it out thanks to someone helpful on Reddit! This was the single hardest time I've ever had with a game. Feel free to remove this post if you guys want!
  17. I know this is super old but, I'm wondering why this doesn't work for me with NOSE? In fact, none of the 95 hacks with extra teams have worked. But I saw comments about working on this in NOSE so, I'm just wondering what's up with that. I tried it on 1.2b and 1.2c and no luck. Any idea @UltraMagnus ? I'd love to make some fun player edits with this if possible!
  18. So I saw some old posts from like 10 years about this but, nothing recent that I could really comment on. There's an old NHL game I had as a kid, and It's been almost 30 years and I've still never truly got to fully play this game. I somehow doubt there's anything anyone can do for me, but I'm really at a midlife crisis and thought maybe something good would happen to me for once. Getting this game to work would be like, a miracle from god at this point! The game is NHL 96 for PC. A game that is run through DOS. Now, I still have a disk for it from when I was a kid, I have all the files, but I've got no idea how to get it to install. After deciding hey, Ive not tried this in like 5 years, let's ask around and maybe someone can help. I'm disabled so mentally, I am a little slower than some people, but I'm very good with emulation/roms generally. Not a Dosbox pro though. Anyway so, I've seen people install it simply through the Setup via dosbox but that doesn't do anything, the screen on Dosbox goes blank. And of course, the Autorun doesn't work because its a 16 bit game, on a 64 bit Operating system. I'm totally clueless on virtual Windows type things, and I really dont wanna have to learn some crazy stuff just to play a hockey game when there's tons of other similar hockey games I could load an emulator of like NHL 97/98 on Saturn. I actually managed to find a small download of the installed game, with no setup or anything, just the game files. And when I type in 'Hockey' it actually perfectly starts the game. BUT just like when I was a kid, there's no sound! I have no idea how to adjust Dosbox sound settings, what commands to use, I read the readme, googled, and there was no list of commands to switch between types of soundblasters and whatnot. It shows the list of available sound cards to emulate but, no commands how to change them. Also, the crowd is totally black/nonexistant, it's like a hockey rink in space lol. So clearly graphics bug. Am I hopeless or, is there some way this game will ever work properly? Is it just not worth it? Like it's a childhood dream to finally fully play it with sound but, it seems like I'd need to really invest time in learning how to use like a Windows 95/98 Emulator or something. I've never not been able to eventually get a game to work, I really never have issues on Dosbox like this but, I'm just so fed up with life, Idk. I figured Id try something rather than sitting here miserable drinking. Help if you can, thanks.
  19. Sorry about that, I didnt realize it would show on the side like that, changed it. I've had one too many head injuries in my day, wish I was joking haha, but I end up rambling too much now and typing way too much to describe and analyze things, etc. Ill try and keep them shorter.
  20. Also, the game I'm starting for each game is going to be a best of 16 bit era teams. Meaning the 7 games NHL Hockey through 98, taking the best version of each team with a few duplicates of legendary teams with more than one unique roster in that era. Like the Rangers in 96-97 and in 93-94, or Colorado in 95-96 and that start and future-star stacked Quebec team from 92-93. Teams in that era that weren't in all the games I may omit to have more duplicates like that. Does that sound like something anyone would be interested in? I plan on making the game and copying the rosters and everything over from every game, 92-98. Maybe having multiple versions for people who like specific teams and want a few choices! Anyway, id love to learn how to do some things to make the roms even better so I can make them for people as I have a lot of free time right now to make them. Give me some teams you want to see in there!
  21. Hi there, ok so I am not perfect at modding but I have a lot of roms that are kind of just for fun, like I edited 92-98 to make the goalies very weak. Instead of the no goalies, they just let in a lot more goals, depending on the settings. If you're like me and like to pick a team and get all the awards and stuff, get all your guys on top of the league leaders, etc... its fun playing quick games for 7 game playoffs or season mode in the later games with this setting. I just wondered if anyone had interest in something like that. I just recently got into modding again so I feel like I want to put something good online, not just some random mods I made for fun lol. Also, by the way, how do I add them? I havent tried yet, theyre all .smd or .bin files. So this was the idea I came up with, the 92 game, or NHL Hockey, seems to be really popular now and that season has very unique rosters compared to later games. So I have tried to mod a game for NHL 95 with those teams, which works fine for playoff modes, but during the season mode basically you have those other teams with no use. So my idea was to have the 5 newer teams that dont have real players in NHL Hockey be like all star teams. I made them Underdogs west and east, super team west and east, and franchise legends. The only things I havent really bothered to learn to do are things like the team ratings and changing the logos and stuff. Im sure its not too difficult, ive just always made my games for fun and never bothered to do anything fancy like I see on a lot of roms.
  22. Hey all NHL94 fans and all oldschool hockey fans! My name is Tyson, I've never been into a lot of forums but I have got in and out of NHL game modding for the games for years! I was a hockey player from a massive hockey family in Michigan right across the river from Ontario, born in 1987. I grew up with it being all around me, having friends and family play and getting to meet pro players my whole life at different times, even just in the local arena during the Silver Sticks tournaments. Out of the 8 and 5 kids my grandparents had, so 11 blood related aunts and uncles, out of those other 11 families and ours there have been so many hockey players its not even funny! The only person I never met out of probably 100 blood relatives, was my uncle Paul. Im 29 now and my whole life they have given out the MVP for the Silver Sticks, the tournament so many former pros and kids of former pros played in at a teen age before going into the bigger leagues. Going out there with my family in front of a few thousand people to give the award every year is amazing. Let me tell you I have a ridiculous memory due to not being a drinker I suppose, and my first hockey memory was from the age of only 6 when I saw my childhood hero Wayne Gretzky do a 360 spin and score and end up with a hat trick against the hated in Michigan team the Maple Leafs. Ive had my own moments that Ill never forget as well in hockey though, and I share these things because I want people to understand this isn't just a game to me. No matter how many graphical enhancements and things they make to games, I will always put my heart and soul into every second of oldschool NHL gaming. I was 10 years old and did a spinorama just like Wayne, I was almost blacked out I didn't even realize I had done it successfully until I looked up and I scored with 1.2 seconds left to tie a game and get my team the point we needed to finish 3rd place for a good seed in the league playoff. I got to be on the local news and in the paper and radio and stuff just for that goal, and I've never experienced anything else like that other than that one moment in my life! Thanks to hockey that honestly was the first time I ever had any confidence, and after that moment it just propelled me through the years of child abuse and bullying and everything else I went through in my youth. I learned how to stand up for myself and others, and I feel like that is one of the most under appreciated benefits of youth sports. Anyway, I won't go on forever haha, I just wanted to share a few of my youngest hockey memories. Of course it was all at a peak then, I was 10 also when the Wings won that first of the back to backs so hockey was life then! On top of all that, I probably had every hockey game ever made for a Sega system. I still do as well, and I just wanted to make a official complete list of the games I consider to be a part of the "true" legacy. Non sega genesis, the first PC games of NHL Hockey 94 and 95,, the Sega Game Gear NHL Hockey that to me is the most underrated game that EA sports made then, the Sega CD version of NHL 94, and nhl 92-98 for Genesis. I would love to learn how to edit the Game Gear version, if you played those 8 bit games, back then this game was absolutely insane for a handheld. Game Gear and Sega in general were so far ahead of their time and Nintendo with sports games, believe me the NHL 95 they tried for game boy was horrible, and the sound for that makes the Game Gear sound like heaven lol. It also was the first true "rom hack" in a way, and let me explain why. NHL Hockey for Game Gear had 94 gameplay, slower and more reliant on momentum with changing direction like 92-94 were, but it had the 95 rosters of course! It has a split of the 95 and 94 menus also, like the 94 start menu that says NHL HOCKEY, the pause menu with the zamboni, the in game boxes when you score or get a penalty, etc. Then it has the 95 colors with the blue background for the game/team select and the pregame and edit lines menu. Its just such a beautifully put together game for it being on a 8 bit system, I know its not as good as consoles but still this is the best portable one to lay in bed and play every night. It uses the password system too, which actually in 2016 is a HUGE advantage because not everyone knows how to repair cartridge batteries! I do and I've still burnt myself a little doing it in the past lol. Normally 92 is the only one of the series with the passwords, 93 doesn't have those OR the battery so you gotta keep it on a long time and play all day to do a real best of 7. I've had a GG with a plug in rechargeable battery for years and Ive played it all over the world, and I just wondered if anyone else who really is into the core games enjoyed the GG one as much as I have. Remember we had no roms or anything back in the day, when this came out it was so ahead of its time lol, it would be pretty amazing if there was a way to edit it! Just thought I'd share a little, I have a lot of roms that I've worked on over the years I would love to share sometime! Happy NHLing!
