  1. Ok so it's up, but i'm annoyed because putting it on youtube (presumably after they compress it down to hell) has delayed the video/music sync slightly. If anyone would prefer a higher-quality version (~100Mb) which is synced as intended (disclaimer: I didn't say it was any good ) you can get it here: http://www.badgerz.net/sureshot/nhl94_-_lu..._the_sirens.avi (does about 1mb/s if you have the connection) The thing actually took a night and a bit to put together, with goals from a period of about 2 weeks. Oh and some trivia: the #15 who scored (against one Mr. Belfour, no less) is one part of the worst Ottawa team I could possibly field on the ice; the catalyst... the superstar... the guy who skates so slow he makes Zamboni drivers redundant... give it up for David Archibald! Finally, please give feedback, don't pull any punches, etc.
  2. Nice video, always good to see another reel on the block And as it happens, I spent the entire yesterday evening putting together my own compilation. Hopefully it'll be up later on. And don't worry, all highlights are from the proper version... yeah, Genesis
  3. As a reminder, signup is now live for this.
  4. Erm, I thought I replied to this earlier... seems to have failed. Anyway, the issue was that I needed to enable v-sync for it to work, and lob it in fullscreen. Case closed!
  5. I did notice that posted in another topic, doesn't like .giz though Thanks anyway.
  6. Thought this would probably the best place to put this question: what's the best way to either convert .giz files to .avi, or to capture video from Gens+ when the .giz playback is running? I've tried using fraps but it won't lasso the window so I can't record the output that way, even in fullscreen it didn't seem to work. Does anyone have some tips before I get Camtasia? Cheers in advance.
  7. My preference goes to the Genesis (Mega Drive ) version personally. It seems more polished on the whole and I like the game being slightly quicker (I even use the 'region-change' workaround in Gens to have it 17% faster). Other than these facts, checking on the SNES version seems much easier, with players going down faster than Juventus' market value, and the atmosphere is almost non-existent; where are the boos when the away team scores a goal, for instance? It's like you just walked into a morgue. Also, the slower pace of shooting makes executing crushing slapshots seem less appealing on the whole. Saying this, the Genesis version isn't perfect either, taking into account issues such as passing being highly unreliable (mentioned previously in this thread) and there being less animations on goalkeepers and players alike. However, I do feel a marriage of some of the features from both versions would be a great thing. As for the AI issue, at least the matter with goalies being too easy is resolved somewhat with ROM edits. Beats having to play against Chicago or Montreal all the time for any kind of challenge with scoring.
  8. Had a listen to it a bit earlier on, nice interview
  9. I think Evan made a proposal to EA a while ago that pretty much summed everything up. Anddd... I've just found it again: http://www.nhl94.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28
  10. I'm recording a few goals at the moment, which I suppose I'll put into some kind of compilation. Don't expect anything amazing, though
  11. Sounds interesting to me, I'll check it out.
  12. Pretty self explanatory really, just curious to see whether people prefer playing with the so-called 'Hyper' mode enabled or not. I also did add a poll, but it seems to have screwed up, so sorry about that. And, duh, I should also mention that I prefer Hyper mode. The pace seems just about bang on when you play with it in-effect.
  13. Thanks mack I too liked Kamensky in one of the games, I don't remember which though. Think it may have been one of the 3D affairs.
  14. As the topic says, thought it would be interesting to find out people's maiden team choices in the series. Personally, the first team I chose was Calgary in NHLPA '93. Now, at this time I had no idea about the background of the NHL, past or present, but the thing that swung it for me was the blurb on the box: http://www.rfgeneration.com/images/games/U...0-S-04040-A.jpg 'Smack a MacInnis glass breaking slap shot a little high and smash the glass behind the net - Awesome power!' So it was settled - I wanted to break some glass. Or at least score some unbeatable goals with this unearthly force. I didn't find out until later that shots 'a little high', and perhaps 'a little wide' were most definitely part of MacInnis' repertoire, and furthermore, somewhat understated. Luckily, Gary, Joe and Theo were there to pick up the initial hail of wild rebounds, and soon I decided that it may be better off for me, team and spectators alike if the Chopper ('Dick Cheney taught me to aim') was saved for special occasions only. After spending a good few matches with the Flames, getting to grips with the game (read: losing) and with no real allegiance to any team, I naturally checked out some of the other contenders. Along with the Rangers and Washington (who I decided must be good since they were in John Madden '92, logic?), I stumbled across a team that eventually stuck. Begin groans now, because that team was Chicago. I don't think I even need to explain too many reasons behind this one, but hey, what else could I do with my brother fronting Roy and the Canadiens as his chosen mob. Incidentally, I scored a personal best of 12 with JR just recently on '94, which must have prompted my neighbours to think I had some kind of new male lover in my house, as I was shouting 'OHHH JEREMY!!! OH MY GOD!!' every time one flew in. They could, of course, be closet NHL players who truly realise the sheer dominance of that man in the game, but in any case, no police have arrived yet. Despite the chopping and changing between these teams, I somehow ended up becoming a faithful Pens fan. I don't really remember the reason behind this (apart from an obvious pair of 60's), but I went on to play them in pretty much every other incarnation as my primary squad. The penguins died the day that Jagr left, but I'm a mug for supporting the no-hopers (if you know about English Football and the team I support, Aston Villa, you'll agree). Anyhow, I think I've gone on far too much about this now, go ahead and post your experiences.
  15. Hey guys, just dropped by here today via Wikipedia while in a period of procrastination time at work I had no idea there was such a following for most definitely the greatest hockey, if not the greatest sports game ever, and I'm delighted to see the effort that's gone into this site and some of the resources it offers - in particular the editing! Yes, this game is so good that I nominated it on Retro Gamer's 100 great games from the forum (http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=670, around page 19). Alas, I'm not able to register for the league due to being an Englishman living in France, but I'll keep checking back in case there's any international interest - and of course to mingle with fellow NHL 94ers Anyway, for now I'll leave you with my old sig from RFGeneration - Me vs Gretzky.
