  1. This was indeed a fantastic tournament and stheds2000 is a very deserving champion, he won 4 straight elimination games to win it all.

I plan on completing a post in the upcoming days documenting my trip, I hope that the boards find it enjoyable and informative.

Just a couple notes to some questions you had halifax. My first game with stheds was a Det v. NYR matchup with Detroit winning and the second game between us was indeed Ana. v. Ott

  2. C'mon Halifax, post up some Vegas odds on the tourney to make things interesting. You know we love odds!

    Prop bets too. Like...

Odds that Halifax cancels rest of tournament after losing 1st round: 5-1.

Over/Under on comments that Genesis is better than SNES and vice versa: 390

AJ goes into shock after experiencing the weather drop ~80 degrees from Sacramento: 9-1

    Beer run? 5-2

    Over/Under on number of "bull$h!t" goals: 825.

My brain cant process what -20 is, I'm hoping my body can't either.

  3. Interview hokkee, hes our version of Mario Lemieux what with all the retirements and comebacks and such.

getting a hold of Evan would also be a key guy to get a hold of. He created the site. Guys like chaos, halifax, kingraph, smozoma, and icestorm have contributed so much over the years that would be great sources as well in terms of things they have done and their collective knowledge of the online history of nhl 94.

If youre interested in players, I would look towards carse and freydey in terms of success over the years. Backhandfloater for his style of play, EricAnthony for his quick ascension to the top of the pile many years ago. Habs and vocally caged have been around since the dawn of time. Kgman is always great for a quote and swos is the best of the Finnish bunch in my opinion if youd like a non north american voice. I'd also be willing to contribute myself if needed.

  4. My list:

    1. Roenick- The Boss

    2. Yzerman- Skilled speedster and incredibly smart.

    3. Bure- Roenick light

    4. Selanne- Tough call between Selanne and Bure, I'd take Bure's extra stickhandling though

    5. Mogilny- Too fast to use his brain on one-timers

    6. Klima- I agree with TK here, despite 3 O. aware. Klima is just a monster who handles like a dream.

    7. Ciccarelli- Major drop off here from the top 6, feel his 5 acc is a bit underwhelming due to 4 o aware. Superiorly skilled compared to the 5 and 6 speeds still unamed.

    8. Gilmour-Great playmaker who is a dangerous shooter as well. Takes too many penalties and lacks a stellar attribute.

    9. Fleury-Speed demon, wrecking ball, nerfed a bit with CB check, still dangerous.

    10. Gartner- Takes a little bit to get going when compared to Fleury. Maddening shot, but he can also score the most amazing goals.

    11. Recchi- A technician with the puck, dangerous shooter. Great winger or center.

    12. Sakic- Essentially Recchi with a tad bit less skating.

    13. Gretzky- Best pure playmaker, fantastic on defense, just dont ask him to shoot from range.

    14. Sandstrom-Best pure shooter in the game, just enough skating and enstein level IQ help him dominate offensively.

    15. Robitaille-Super all around player. Winger or center the guy plays at a high level.

    16. Fedorov- Solid across the board, very easy to handle, supreme passer.

    17. Lemieux- Most highly skilled player in the game, still a cinch to take down but not a defensive suck hole any longer.

    18. Hogue- Best all around 5 speed player left on the board. Converts his scoring chances and sets up plenty as well.

    19. Modano- Really fun to use when he's on his game, A nightmare otherwise.

    20. Lafontaine- Underwhelming total package, not enough speed or shooting to be truly dynamic. Great playmaker, but nothing breath taking.

    21. Sundin- Great all around player, can now knock around some lightweights.

    22. Ronning-Speedy, defensive beast. Elusive enough to dodge the big defenders who can take him down. Still only a deker when it comes to goal scoring.

    23. R. Courtnall- Pure speed demon. Being easier to handle than Bondra makes all the difference here.

    24. Roberts- Fantastic center, good skater, very smart, dangerous shooter. Just dont put him on the wing.

    25. Savard- Slippery little playmaker, struggles to score.

This list was indeed very difficult to make. Just a few notes on guys I left off the list who have been mentioned previously.

Brett Hull-Not a good enough skater to create his own chances consistently. Wild shot does him no favors. Id take the consistent Pierre Turgeon before Hull.

Brian Bradley- Too slow to be as effective as he was before the CB check. He's turning into a guy I'd troll with as oppose to roll with in the hard times.

Adam Oates- Better passer than Fedorov, Oates lack of shooting and lack of other elite attributes make him too easy to predict.

Peter Bondra- Not enough top tier skills and lack of agility really water down his elite speed.

Steve Larmer- A very solid #2 guy, no weaknesses, lack of game breaking strengths though.

  5. WHERE IS KONTOS!?

Seriously though, this is a very interesting list. I definitely disagree with a few of the rankings namely Ciccarelli, Bure and Modano just off the top of my head. It's been so long since I played and this whole CB check thing really throws a wrench into a lot of the things I felt I used to know about. I'm sure any list I create would be archaic and in need of translation from Asstorm to make sense to all the newer guys playing in the leagues these days.

  6. Directly from my Philadelphia article in my line building section:

Dominic Roussel: 6 weight, 3/3 skating, 3 puck control, 3/3/2/2 save, Catches: L

Every once in a while someone gets the bright idea that they can use Roussel in a time share in the GDL. I speak from personal experience here, don't be that guy with the bright idea. The only bright thing will be the red light behind Roussel.

Plabax was the dude with the bright idea and won the GDL, well done sir.

  7. Thanks for posting Brutus. RBI baseball is still my favourite baseball video game. Would love to see available for online but it doesn't look like that's happening.

I read in a different preview/review that this could be patched in later as this is something they are looking to expand to.

  8. Yes, what kingraph said, please read the article I've posted. It should be able to help you figure out the lineup you'll need to be competitive.

I played a season as Ottawa many years ago, I think i went 14-16 or something like that and got swept by Detroit in the 1st round. What I found to be successful was to play a trap style of game and then counter off of it. If you attempt to just wheel and deal and play a wide open style of game, more often than not the other team will just murder Ottawa.

Know your matchups, it is critical to know who you can abuse physically and who you should avoid. Put yourself in situations that you can succeed, thats really the best and only thing you can do.

  9. My NHL 94 stats:

    Name: Slappy McAsshammer

    Number: 93

    Position: F

    Hand: Right

    Weight: 188

Speed: 2 (I was a craptastic skater, but I was perfectly fleh at top speed)

Agility: 1 (Randy Wood without the afterburners)

Off Aware: 3 (I either knew where to go or I didnt)

Def Aware: 4 (I'm aware, doesnt mean I was awesome at it though)

Short Power: 3 (When I got into one, it had something behind it)

Shot Acc: 3 (I capitalized on a lot of my shots)

Stick Handling: 3 (My lack of skating really made some of my moves worthless)

Checking: 2 (skating hindered my ability to use the body well)

Endurance: 5 (had to ironman some games)

Passing: 4 (It was typically best for me to dish it off, which I could)

Pass/Shot Bias: 5 (More Gilmour than Andreychuk)

Aggressiveness: 4 (I had a bad attitude when provoked)

    My Fifa '94 stats

    Jersey # - 93

    Position - Midfield
    Footness - Right
    Weight - 188. Im a fatty for a midfielder.
Speed - 5 (I got plenty of top speed)
Agility - 4 (Agile enough, but not extremely so)
Off.Awareness - 2. (Offense? I dont really know WTF is going on up there)
Def.Awareness - 5. (Most people are lazy and want to score, I pick up there slack)
Shot Power - 6 (The Al Iafrate of the league)
Checking - 5. (I've put more people on their ass in soccer than hockey)
Fighting - 6 (The stereotype is true, most soccer players are little biatches, I get 6 by default)
Footwork- 4 (I work the cycle and corners like Joe Thornton, not flashy, but effective)
Shooting Accuracy - 2 (Hitting the net is optional in my book)
Endurance - 5 (A Box to Box type of midfielder)
Roughness Pass/Shot Bias - 4 (Prefer to pass, but if I get a chance to rip one, get outta the way)
Passing - 5 (I have the full arsenal of passes available at my disposal)
Aggressiveness - 4 (I'm cool and relaxed until provoked. Then I become a monster)

Lesson to take away from this: pick me for your soccer team, not your hockey team.
