  1. Thats one hell of a nhl94 convention you got going there. BHF, EA, and KG...no invitation for AJ yet...maybe next year.
  2. i was on a bit earlier lookin to get things going, but now im a little occupied with something, im around mike, i know you want me in this series because you play me tough, so let me know.
  3. Congratulations on the good season dmac. You took a huge step in the right direction and your playoff berth is a big piece of evidence in proving that. Your season with Bure will go down as one of the current all-time greats.
  4. I guess the keystone speaker for carse's graduation didnt get out of the state pententarary in time to make his speech.
  5. They dont ask how, they ask how many. Right now im 4 for 4 and i got 3 exactly right...ill take right predictions however i can get them.
  6. i think he was waiting for my playoff perdictions, they just got posted.
  7. Due to popular demand, my picks have made their return. Last season i managed to get 3 out of the 4 teams correct for the conference finals but missed both of the stanley cup finalists and the cup winner. Heres to some better luck this year. Lets start off in the West: #1 Chicago vs. #8 Calgary Lets just go over Roenicks dominance this season; 251 goals for Roenick compared to 234 goals for the entire Calgary team. Roenick outscored every team in the NHL by himself outside of just 4 teams, 52% shooting percentage, a 300 point season, only 28 penalty minutes, bone crushing checks, and faceoff dominance. Throw in Cliff Ronning, Robert Riechel and the playmaking Vladimir Konstantinov and Chicago possess the most dominant offensive attack in the league. Calgary may have the fourth leading scorer in the league with Mats Sundin, but the Flames up and down ways wont be enough to take down the juggernaut they face in the first round. Hawks in 4 #2 St. Louis vs. #7 Vancouver This matchup could be the sleeper in the west, while St. Louis focuses on tight d, Pavel Bure's slick skating ways may be able to carry the nucks to an upset. Bure has been problematic for defenses all season as he piled up 191 points. The big problem for Vancouver though will be finding that secondary offense while containing the dynamic duo of Sergei Fedorov and Mike Modano, a tough task indeed. Blues in 7 #3 Detroit vs. #6 Florida Florida is this years version of the San Jose Sharks from last season because they hold three players who are all legitimate threats up front and have a nearly even production. They will be up against on of the most defensive minded teams in the league in the Detroit Red Wings. This is going ot be a drag it out series of low scoring affairs will every goal will be huge. If Mogilny gets rolling for Florida this series ends quickly, if not, Detroit will carry the tempo with the likes of Nelson Emerson and Steve Yzerman and the always lurking Pierre Turgeon. Wings in 6 #4/5 Los Angeles vs #4/5 Toronto Dmitri Khristich and Geoff Courtnall have created a nice duo for the Leafs, but their lack of a third forward and true attacking defender really limit their offensive options against a stingy l.a. team. On the other hand though the Kings only have one 100 point scorer in Luc Robatille. Jimmy Carson's production isnt quite at the level it was last season and he will be needed dearly in this series. While the offensive edge goes to Toronto, the defensive edge goes for L.A. Which ever goalie between Tommy Soderstrom and Grant Fuhr plays better will carry their team to the next round. Kings in 7 Western Semis: #1 Chicago vs. #4/5 Los Angeles There is only one way L.A. can win this series, avoid the run and gun style to try and keep up with Roenick. If Roenick is allowed to score in this series at an alarming rate, he will be end this series in faster than 4 games because he is that good. If Zarley Zalapski and Calle Johannson can find ways to keep Roenick away from the net, there is a small chance that L.A. can make the case to beat Chicago, but this team just isnt built to stop the Chicago Roenicks. Hawks in 5 #2 St.Louis vs. #3 Detroit This will be a series of bad blood as it is well known both teams have a strong dislike for each other and it will come out in a hard checking, low scoring affair. Dont expect anything pretty here, its gonna be ugly and someone may not come out alive. Wings in 7 Western Finals: #1 Chicago vs. #3 Detroit Have i mentioned that guy Roenick yet? If i havent, hes a pretty good player and there is no reason why he wont be able to have his way against the likes of Pierre Turgeon, Steve Yzerman, Cam Russell, and Mike Vernon. Dont expect Detroit to roll over as their sole goal will be to stop Roenick, but will there be enough offense even if they succeed? i doubt it. Hawks in 5 Eastern Quarters: #1 Buffalo vs #8 Ottawa The popular pick here may be to say Buffalo in a sweep, but its a lot more complicated than that. Ottawa beat Buffalo once and played 2 other overtime games this season to give the Sabres a tough run the entire series. If the Sabres can stop Peter Bondra they are in good shape as the secondary scoring is not as dangerous as other teams in the playoffs. On the other hand though if the Senators can limit goal scoring whiz Tomas Sandstrom, then the Sabres secondary scoring isnt all that impressive either. Watch for the x-factor in Terry Yake, if Yake scores, this series ends quick, if not, this is gonna be on ugly series. Sabres in 6 #2 NYR vs. #7 Boston What do i say about this, Rangers won in 5. Ill give my view still...Arturs Irbe, nuff said. #3 Montreal vs. #6 Hartford Montreal is probably the team most under the radar this season by having a 90 point season yet only getting a 3 seed in the east. Expect them to come out blazing with the likes of Denis Savard, Stephan Lebeau, and Brendan Shanhan clicking on all cylinders. The no name offensive attack for the pop gun Whalers will not be able to crack Roy anywhere near enough times to worry the Habs. Habs in 4 #4/5 NYI vs. #4/5 New Jersey After a slow start the Devils led by Doug Gilmour have been on a late season rampage while the Islanders seem to be just treading water. The Islanders desperately need Teemu Selanne to get going in this series or they could be stifled all series by a sound defensive Devils team. The same goes for the Devils as Gilmour must be the man driving the bus, if he's stopped the offense falls onto the shoulders of Chris Kontos and thats not a reciepe for winning. Expect Gilmour to score at an impressive click, he is skating hard and dominated the league during the last few weeks. Devils in 5 Eastern Semis: #1 Buffalo vs. #4/5 New Jersey Who can stop the super star in this series? Both teams rely heavily on one player and who ever can stop that player will win the series, the Sabres do support the better surrounding cast and may be able to work through a tough series. Dont understimate the Devils defense though as they have been known to lock down the Sabres from time to time, this will be one epic series. Sabres in 7 #2 NYR vs. #3 Montreal Is Alexei Zhamnov and Pat Lafontaine really enough to break through Patrick Roy? They are great playmakers but they lack the true sniper needed to be a consistent threat throughout the series. The Rangers will need to stay tight defensively and contain the choieseve unit that is the Canadiens if they hope to have any chance of taking this series. Habs in 6 Eastern Finals: #1 Buffalo vs. #3 Montreal This is the matchup Montreal has wanted all season, to take down their division rival. The Habs took 3 games out of 4 in the season series, but very easily could have lost 3 as well as they were tightly contested. Can Yake step up and be the man, if Yake scores it makes thigns a whole lot tougher for the Habs to defend the Sabres. Yake is the best kept secret in the league, but he may not be enough to carry the Sabres over the hump. If the Canadiens are allowed to skate into the offensive zone with speed they will have their way with a somtimes lazy Sabres d, but if Don Sweeney can step up as well and limit the premium shots allowed, the Sabres can find their way into the cup finals. Sabres in 7 Finals: #1 Buffalo vs. #1 Chicago Sandstrom vs. Roenick, what else needs to be said? Whoever wins that battle wins the cup simple as that. Roenick...err i mean Hawks in 7 The eastern conference was really tough for me to get a read on, i think very easily new jersey or montreal could be just as easily in the finals as the Sabres. But last season i eliminated myself in the first round and made it to the finals, so this time i around i gave myself the benefit of a doubt, if you dont like it then do something about it! Good luck to all
  8. it hurts me to agree with carse, but i have to on this one...this is getting really old.
  9. yeah habs, your matchup is set in stone, the east is all set up except for kgman vs. scribe, they can still have their home ice advantage changed. i dont know if were supposed to start yet, but if you and ranatoro want to, i guess there isnt too much problem with it, but im not the head honch so take my words with a grain of salt.
  10. looks like outside of a little shuffling in the middle of the western conference, all the matchups are in shape. east: buf vs. otw nyr vs. bos mtl vs. hfd nyi vs. nj west: chi vs. cgy stl vs. van det vs. fla la vs. tor Once the matchups are set in stone, you can expect another edition of my playoff picks.
  11. Id like to congratulate EA for his performance with JR that will earn him the art ross, maurice richard, and hart trophy this season. In my two games against EA i think roenick had 11 goals and i felt like i contained him...thats just a sick thought. But it looks like everyone was right about picking roenick, i just didnt have it inside of me to win the race this season, roenick was far too strong.
  12. Buffalo stormed out of the gates this season with a 19 game winning streak and never really looked back as they took the Eastern Conference crown with 95 points and a 46-7-3 record. "I'm really proud of this team, we came together from the get go and carried it on with a lot of really strong play," said winger Sergei Makarov. One of the main reasons for success was the Buffalo offense, with 387 goals, the Sabres will finish second in the leauge for offense, but their offensive domination will go down as one of the all time greats in draft league history. Player Evaluations: Terry Yake-(65g-79a-144p) A breakthrough year for the journeyman forward, Yake suprised opponents with his crafty goal scoring touch and deft passing. Also a key component of a competant penalty kill unit. Tomas Sandstrom (232-53-285) Tomas exceeded all expectations with his boffo type season. Tomas challenged JR for the points race all season, but ultimately fell short. Tomas scored every way imaginable and was even a potent forechecker as he caused several turnovers and turned them into goals with amazing efficiency. Sergei Makarov-(46-85-131) While Makarov may not be the most lethal of shooters, his passing skills are among the elite of the league as he has a good possibility of winning the assist title. Sergei's strong puck skills and good agility also make him a dekeing threat when opponents play the pass to Sandstrom a bit too closely. Don Sweeney (18-70-88) Sweeney may have not put up the offensive numbers expected of him, but he anchored the blueline for the Sabres all year with punishing body checks, swift poke checks, and solid reads. Sweeney was a key component of starting the offense from the backhand and his passing abilities are neccessary for a good transition. Sergei Bautin (14-47-61) Despite splitting time with Mark Howe, Bautin impressed the coaching brass with his ability to help out on the offensive end in terms of setting up players and goal scoring. Bautin also used his ability to body check to crack a few skulls throughout the season. He was a pleseant suprise to say the least. Tim Chevrolet (0-64-64) (3.39 gaa, .698 save) While Chevrolet may lead the league in assists for goalies, he gave well beyond his fair share of gooey soft goals and at times didnt even earn the minor league number issued to him at the beginning of the season. Chevrolet had the knack to allow the back breaking goal in a game as opposed to making the game saving stop. His inconsistency is well noted in Buffalo and his head will be called for if the Sabres go south in the playoffs. Reserves: Mark Howe (4-30-34) Howe did not let coach Juice Maker down when he was given ice time throughout the season. His strong play was rewarded more and more as the season went along and he provided a real calming presence on a very agressive blueline. Brian Bellows (8-2-10) Stuck on the bench again for Juice Maker, Bellows was not given the ice time neccessary to shine, but during his time on the penalty kill Bellows did manage a hat trick in one game and provided other timely shorthanded goals throughout the season. Roger Johansson (0-4-4) Johansson was limited to purely penalty kill minutes this season and was able to use his slick stickwork to jar the puck away from several oncoming forwards. His solid passing skills were able to provide a few scoring chances for the shorthanded sabres. Ray Ferraro (0-0-0) This guy was on the team? Stephane Fiset (0-0-0) (0.00-.000) Did a marvelous job of opening and closing the gate to the bench during stoppages of plays. While the Sabres do not know who their playoff opponent will be, they know it could be Ottawa or Boston, two fiesty teams that will be hungry to knock off the top dog in the east.
  13. your actually locked into atleast the 7th and at best the 6th which means a matchup with gr81 or carse.
  14. you know how i know your gay carse? you claim an overtime win as an ass beating. Last time i looked, the 7-3 and 10-3 beatdowns i laid on you this season are legitimate ass beatings, get it straight you bum.
  15. i think i may have jumped the gun a bit with you brown, i thought d would be looking to take action immedeatly, but he decided to give juice until tomorrow night to catch up. he played a little today, so your chances dont look as good, but dont venture too far.
  16. First, id like to thank deathsblood for giving us the truth on whats going on with juice. we kinda figured he was grounded, but now we know for sure. At least he was willing to really give us the low down on whats going on and i appreciate that. But i think juice's time has run out and we've got to go in a new direction. We'd like to have him back next season if things can work out for him. I know you werent trying to drop the hammer on me EA, i may have not said what i wanted as elegantly as i had hoped, but i know you got the new job and that changed up your schedule completly. Also with obligations it makes it tough, but with the games out and finals wrapping up for a lot of us college students, people are showing up more and i think a lot of us are ready to play. so whenever you can make it, i beleive there will be more people online this week than there were last week.
  17. I should say EA, you our the one im least concerned about, you have been playing some games here and there over the last few weeks. The other two have played 2-3 games over the last month or so. The reason i bring up were trying to wrap up the season is that all the games have been relased and now the playoffs are just around the corner and people want to know where they will end up. The last thing anyone in this league wants is for the playoffs to drag on over an unneccessarly long period of time. As far as my whereabouts last week. It wasnt too much different from my usual schedule of being away from home for 3 days of the week, and away from home atleast half of the day for another 3 days. When i was home i had studying to do for exams and writing to do for reports and speechs i had to present. I would like to say when the best time to reach me is, but im here when i can be. As for your idea, i like it, it would make thins run smoother i hope. Currently we are trying to replace monkeyjuice, but im waiting for a response from D and i know he will get to it the first chance he is, but none the less there is still a bit of time that we must wait out before the replacement is finalized. A preapproved list by D may serve more effective so we dont have to experience these delays.
  18. Monkey has been the biggest offender. Whether its him being grounded or his computer malfunctioning, he has had plenty of time to get things straighten out and it just hasnt happen for whatever reason. I have nothign against the guy, i like the guy and he plays when he can, but we need to move things forward. I say we give the team to brwonmagic effective immedeatly.
  19. I havent seen you guys on in ages, i only have a games wth EA but you guys are kinda falling behind and i dont see you on ever. You guys gonna be available to play in the near future? the league is looking to wrap up the season shortly.
  20. Thats freaking hilarious because its so true. Although you could perhaps put in Trevor Linden's leg and Jeff Cowans arm because those guys did come to play as well.
  21. JR best watch out, Sandstrom's a commin.
  22. As for the committee, i think its dead, its too big and cumbersome to be an effective thing for coaching changes, it may be more effective for pureply offseason issues. I like matts idea that he noted earlier in this thread. Im sorry that the commitee was more of a nuisance than it was a benefit.
  23. as for hokkee's nominations. Id nominate matt over myself in a heart beat, hes honest, has senority, dedicated, fair, can make his own decisions, and he is trusted. I cant say i share those same qualities, and if i do, they aren't on as high of a level as his.
  24. i believe there is talk for next season of the current nhl07 league that there will be a draft, so keep your fingers crossed hokkee.
  25. hokkee is making sense of all this, im siding with him, maybe a second in command would be more effective than a 3-5 man committee.
