  1. I don't like nitpicking usually and would I be at draft position #11 or #12 is of little meaning to me as it provides me a better player than I had thought of getting (and would think A guys should be towards the bottom more, maybe in the future), but below how I counted the points. Depch = 67pts + 2 playoff round wins making it to 83pts Sicarius = 86pts + 0 playoff round wins would make him be at 86pts
  2. As of 22nd of november it looks like the draft order will be like this unless there are some more vets returning in late. #1 Jackandjose #2 Skeletor #3 Labs #4 Jer #5 Brutus #6 Kupuck #7 Fitzo #8 Houly #9 Uncle Seth #10 Minpind #11 Depch #12 Sicarius #13 IceStorm #14 Kingraph #15 Plabax #16 - #24 DonnyBrook, JackVandal, Darko99, Jagr68, Lupz27, Texaspachyderm, Skip + room for two more
  3. That seems to validate it pretty well. And what I meant with the goalie attributes I did was that weight 0 to make the goalie control come up faster. I recall Swos having this tested that the lower weight the goalie the faster it comes to control, however I do give this a small chance of just remembering it wrong. Then agility 6 to make it as responsive as possible, like working as acceleration on players -> Randy wood 5 speed acceleration 1 is horrible and takes ages to get on full speed (same physics should allow to goalies and players when it comes to weight too, higher works against acceleration). So make the goalie react fast to my keypresses but make low speed work against that I won't go for dekes too easily, but it seems to work fast enough for side to side anyways so speed is of little value to the goalies as an attribute, but most go to the 3/4 range anyways.
  4. kgman01 - Minnesota eggink444 - San Jose BoKnowsNHL94 - Hartford Sicarius Fulgur - Pittsburgh nahkahomo - Columbus Kanou - Edmonton da94wookiee - Montreal swos - Buffalo Flamingpavelbure - Anaheim Zalex - Vancouver It's a bit pity if so many won't be returning. Sometimes it's better to let ppl have some break off the game, it's like you'll never leave nhl94 completely anyways and could find yourself back in it years after. Happened to me too. I'd also give an outside chance for Frey to get his old team Montreal back if he'd be up for it as Wookie was just a temporary sub due to Freys injury. One would figure some of the newer guys like Skip could be interested in this one as well and be relatively competitive right from the get go, also Northway Native was a positive surprise in Classic. Just need to market it up for them too. Plenty of new blood around, which is great. Looking forward to a great season again.
  5. This is great! Saves the work from doing all the stuff manually for us not so good creating macros. I have begun to question some of the known sets for attributes. From my experience offensive awareness/defensive awareness does not calculate towards positioning directly. It has been verified that this works towards the reaction time when your team has the puck (offensive awareness) and without it (defensive awareness). On DTT my center Castillo has 1 offensive awareness (6 defensive awareness) and he is great on onetimers. I use this basis also for Klima who has a 3 offensive awareness (2 defensive) only and is often on very good position for onetimers. The idea is that Klima reacts to the puck slower and the opponent team gets on towards their positioning. Klima has a speed of 5 that makes him able to position himself better knowing where the opponent D already is and coming from the "bushes" so to speak and due to his speed he's there right on time. Plus the info on stickhandling should have added that it's the resistance to b-checks to make it clear for everyone.
  6. Heya, posting this as an example of a draft list for D and G. Have not done anything to forwards yet, but this is just the idea for each to get their own list going on and this will propably be close to my ranking for them too. You can check the excel file below. http://depch.webs.com/GDLXII.xls If we get in to this I'll try to explain why I have valued each attribute as I have. For goalies it is kinda self explanatory. The only attributes I really credit myself are the sticks/gloves plus puckcontrol and agility. Puck control makes your goalie give in less pass shots from 5 hole for example, but has nothing to do with controlling rebounds well, that's evident with Roy too. The good value here is 4 and over which makes the tendency for those random goals less. Most important skills are the sticks & gloves for players who are not that good with manual goalie and also agility. I drafted Belfour over Roy in Blitz9 this season just to test and speculate would higher sticks be better than higher gloves and see would a goaltender really make any difference in the A tier games. I've come to the conclusion that gloves are used more often than sticks, but this is just based on a hunch/feeling rather than anything evident. I did rank them both at 8 for each attribute as it remains just as a hunch. And no, I don't think a goaltender should be taken on the first round as all goalies will be suckage vs onetimers and certain abuse goals, some more than the others. This is just as a heads up for a player who thinks they could build a team around their goalie, but it will not be enough to compete in the A level when it could help you play in B well, but if the ultimate goal is to get to A you wouldn't want to base your game on this. But anyone is free to try like I did. For the great manual goalies you would want a low weight goalie, but AI goalies that won't matter much. Low weight makes your control more responsive and it propably also affects agility as on players where agility I review as an important skill. The great manual goalies like Plabax & Freydey can get great numbers with any goalie, even with the poorest ones. In the dream team tournament I set my goalie to weight 0 trying to make him as responsive as possible with agility 6, but using only speed 1 as I don't like my goalie to go too fast that I lose control and even as AI he's picking up some nice saves so I have review speed having very little effect in the goalie attributes. The same thing with the awareness skills, I see them having very little effect as my goalie in DTT has 0/0 awareneses. Some the offensive awareness might have something to do with passing with the goalie and that could be, I'm getting some nice passes out of Joseph who has a higher skill in offensive awareness than my DTT goalie. I won't review that very important though so it's not contributing to the overall as the main job is to be defensive anyways, for some it might be and you can add it up then. What comes to the defencemen I have skipped off shotpower/accuracy completely as I review my d-men being responsible for D mainly. With defencemen I have reviewed agility more important than speed. Gotta be ready to make those fast turns and react to opposition well. Stickhandling I have a hunch is affecting on intercepting some passes and holding the puck in traffic, plus it makes you resistant to b-checks, which does require 5+ for being able to hold on the puck while being checked, it's one of the more important attributes to me. Getting those opening passes out well as a D is also important for me to get the offence going on fast. I was being kinda cautious with the weight myself. This should be altered how a player plays the game how much value does it decrease. A player who is not good at C/B or B-check should have a very high effect on weight and priorize getting lower weight players as that C-check will get you going on defence. But for more experienced players who know B&C it's around how I would rate them now I'd see. If you're adept with C/B too I don't think there is need to have those red attributes on weight at all. This is how is for me atm. and I just might finetone it for myself. I also would not follow the list 100% but take it more of as an advice so you know where you're going and depending on the situation might pick a lower weight guy who has a little less overal in the skills. I have Ray Bourque high on my list, but I just hate playing with him. Feels hard to control and likes to play very aggressive as AI (sometimes good, especially if you like passive aggressive D), making up for some open ice. This could be that the checking attribute is said to affect how keen the AI is to check, not how effective his C-checks are. So my gut for Bourque is that he's aggressively going for checks, which is nice from some d-men, but if he misses than, then as a heavy 10 weight player it's really hard to fix your position on that. For some he could work better, but I propably wouldn't be picking him and instead take on another, but nothing is written on the stone if he's the best value you can get. [EDIT] Said this below in the Classic A channel, so to simplify it out "For poor B-checkers & C/B-checkers the low weight guys should still be a priority though, could even re-adjust the multilpier to weight to 10 or so" || With defencemen that is. I will use different multipliers to forwards. -For defencemen sometimes I feel that speed 5 might be too much and I'm more content with 3 or 4, even Fetisov with 2 is enough in Blitz9. The speed 5 d-men can be a great asset though if you can't get any of the proper speed 5 forwards.
  7. I can respect this, but as you know only last season really matters, other than that it's very slim what history has to do with it. But this is a respectable opinion and a very strong one for the benefits of not changing a thing. A system giving credit to being active is very good, hard to argue against. It's just that all these things maybe could still be credited to pick positioning, just that the draft is not snake, but it would take a bit of the original reasons for not having a snake draft. I also kinda would disagree to change it for the upcoming season, maybe introduce any possible changes a season earlier that would be this huge. I think the vote would have to have a 2/3 majority as well to introduce such a big changes. I would resist turning penalties off too. I experienced the jump from full rules & linechanges play already a big enough step for a more arcade style of play here in NA games, and turning penalties off would maybe make it too arcade for me even though I've become to like the setup here too. The idea of negating b-checks with it sounds interesting though, but that would work hard against me as well as I use b-check so much (would be interesting in blitz with wbug fix, c/b-fix and this penalties change to b-checks integrated somehow, could be too crazy), but would not vote against it for selfish reasons.
  8. In the thread http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/3154-list-maker-tool/ such a tool was described already, perhaps we could revive that unless someone has something more new. I found an excel file from GDL 8 draft spreadsheet. I'm editing it a bit to include the goalie ratings so at least that will be of some help. Linking it soon. It just doesn't have any macros that would help you change overall to your liking by changing how much you value each attribute.
  9. I respect the opinion, I do not respect the ultimatum. Like I stated that I'm fine with any way it goes, but this is a thing that should be open up for discussion. I also drafted like ~#22 last season. I'm looking to be around 10-15 this year with not much DNP:s and many newcomers coming in most likely and would get that proper 5 speeder I'm looking for. What I'm bringing up is making my position worse after paying my dues too. Evening out the playing field with a new draft system sure I'd be willing to sacrifice and even pick last every season, but only if there is a change. If not I'll keep my earnings from last season for my draft position (it's a very good argument that you earn it). Current system is not bad, it's quite ok. I just think people need to be open for ideas and discussions and that's the only way for improvement. If talks don't go anywhere from there and there is no real improvement in peoples mind with any changes, then there is no need for a change.
  10. Ranking players by skill instead of previous season and DNP:s would be of no problem to me. DNP:s just would have to be sorted out differently and what the penalty would be. Replacements are a valid concern. Maybe a vet should not be allowed to have a team from a not so established coach. It's not written on the stone and people are able to overcome such concerns. Top coaches will be the favourites, but it would make the league more competitive in my mind. Non snake draft would also kinda nullify the need to have any trades involving picks, which would be a positive thing as of late I think the top coaches most of the time get the better of the weaker player. In the old threads there was some talk about having a mixture of this system. The top 2 rounds matter the most and to me even that would be enough to compensate for the top coaches vs weaker coaches. Like below. 1 non-snake 2 non-snake 3 snake 4 snake [edit] I notice that in the thread http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/4240-future-of-the-gdl-dmitrys-status-and-gdl-3/?hl=excel it's been said by DaDonch "Draft - Hybrid Draft - First 3 Rounds will be NON-SNAKING, Rounds 4-12 will be SNAKING. This way the advantage of a good draft pick helps but doesn't dominate the draft." ^ So changing the draft system is not against GDL history either? Need to read some newer threads from that why it was changed back to full snake.
  11. It was a nice surprise to see that this topic was brought out earlier. .. ages ago. Maybe it might be nice to have a conversation based on more recent experiences and time to update 7 years here has there been any change in the common opinion. I would prefer a non snake draft. Yes, this will make it tougher for the coaches at the end of the list. Coaches at the end of the list usually are the better players if we wouldn't put newcomers to the end of the draft and by newcomers I mean new players, not established veterans who make a return for the league/game. I do think the best coaches should be able to beat the crap out of others with weaker teams too. Voting for non snake draft as a vet player would be the unselfish move to make. If people prefer the snake draft, it might be better if you were able to choose where you wanna pick. Like choose your draft position for the first round and everything else settles out fine. It's worked for 11 seasons so far as it has been so no changes are required to keep it fun. But I think by changing it a bit we could make it more competitive towards the whole community. But I'm fine with the old ways as well.
  12. You can find previous draft results here with the player skills listed too. That should be helpfull as well. ADP is average draft position. http://www.nflpickempool.net/GDLDraft/DraftResults.php
  13. I've been trying to search for an excel spreadsheet you could value your players as you'd like to get some lists done already. Anyone recall where that might be? Or was it used in Blitz draft? If so it could be modified to help people draft in GDL too and would nice to be somewhere you could easily find and search for it then too. [i'll be editing below some important links] GDL XII players list & macros for attributes: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10816388/GDL12%20Draft.xlsm Previous draft results: http://www.nflpickempool.net/GDLDraft/DraftResults.php Earlier seasons: http://nhl94.arkku.net/index2.php
  14. Another underdog win. Well played Labs and see you in the next round!
  15. Yeah, it was 0-2 after 2 periods and got it going in the last for me - "youuu youngbloodsss".And don't get ahead of it! There's still one more series for me to get past and it's been the tournament of the underdogs so far. These rosters seem to work some magic. Be it the boosted goalie or not anyone getting a clearly better player to abuse or everyone getting to play with a team they'd like or whatever (maybe the Jerseys).
  16. Game 1: Kallion Snatchers - New Yor Rangers 5-4 ot Game 2: New York Rangers - Kallion Snatchers 8-2 Game 3: Kallion Snatchers - New York Rangers 5-2 Snatchers win 2-1! ggs
  17. in [edit] I will also ditch Hamilton and rather take a more regular NHL team. #1. Vancouver Canucks if Zalex ditches that #2. Ny Islanders #3. Hartford Whalers if free
  18. Very well played Labs! Another upset.
  19. Series with Donny over. Let's get it on Kingraph! Game 1: Boston Bruins - Kallion Snatchers 2-7 Game 2: Kallion Snatchers - Boston Bruins 8-2
  20. I agree, Phi should be in tier 3 and also Que too, making the tier 2 only 4 teams of Cgy,Bos,Dal,Wpg and then a larger tier 3 of Que,Phi,La,Nyr,Stl,Edm,Tor,Hfd (edited). This happened because of trying to balance the teams out to having even number of teams in tiers, or relatively close. I'm a bit torn on should we have a list for common player and elite players separatedly. Ultimately you would want to play to the highest potential unless being a completely casual player. But even then I think the teams should be ranked to their utmost highest potential rather than a casual look. Yea, we must open a GDL thread for discussions. Like I don't want any top tier A player getting 2 first round picks this year or in the future, just makes it bad. My experiment in Blitz9 with going goalie first is a strong statement that goalies should not be taken at first round, for no one unless you go like me and want to experiment it, but it won't help much in the top tier game and that's where everyone wants to aim.
  21. I think it would be time to update this a notch. Something just screams for a minor change in the listings. In my mind a few things need to be changed in the attribute weighing. Now that CB has come out it warrants to drop down the emphasis on weight (even though I'm still bad with that too). Also stickhandling has been very low on standards and definately needs to move up a notch. It's the main resistance on B-checks and adds up to a couple of other important things too. While in relatively I did not change my weight value it's decreased in the overall emphasis on skills. And I'm actually possibly being a bit conservative here to what I really think, I might emphasize sth and pass a bit more +1 to each as with agility and there is the hanging question with RGH does it really make you cherrypick more. Offence: Weight: 5 Agility: 6 Speed: 10 Shot Power: 8 Shot Accuracy: 4 Pass Accuracy 4 Stick Handling: 6 OA: 1 DA: 1 Chk: 1 Rgh: 1 Agr: 1 Below is my unofficial tier list for teams, this is just out of the hat without deeper analyzing and teams in specific tier are in no set order. Might come back to this later with some more thought. For example I would have a real hard time choosing the Oilers before STL as of this moment. Klima 5 speed might be the difference maker between top coaches, but overall performance of the team is so much better with STL than with EDM for me. I also think that STL can be more effective than TOR on scoring goals. Better supporting cast for that Howizter on Hull, but Toronto better defensively. Real tough choise that would be not like in the current rankings. Even if we would discredit STL due to earlier horrible win percentages a team like Toronto is due for a drop. I'd take Quebec or even Philly over Toronto. Tier 1: Chi,Det,Buf,Van,Mtl Tier2: Cgy,Bos,Dal,Wpg Tier3: Que,Phi,La,Nyr,Stl,Tor,Edm,Hfd Tier4: Pit,Nj,Nyi,Wsh Tier5: Sj,Tb,Fla,Ott,Ana It would be a good time open up some talks on this and the emphasis as GDL XII is also closing up. Make players more aware. A player like Hogue is easier to control than Bondra and comparing their skills speed 5 is enough difference to 4 already, Bondra with 4 agility really makes his speed 6 not that good, even though you get some breakaways with it, that's all there can be. It doesn't mean one should pick Hogue over Bondra, but maybe test them how you prefer it and feel playing with it. And better to not leave 5+ speed players to top tier A players but building the team takes more in to account that that obviously. =)
  22. NHL95 was indeed the first big published Hockey game for PC/Sega at least (Sega had previous versions too, but don't recall them being marketed in any way). NHL'94 or NHL Hockey on PC was played tons though via warez channels at least in the eastern part of Helsinki. The Sega version of 95 does play differently than the 94/95 of PC version though. If one could play with keyboard I'd join in and hop on to Tampere and join the next tournament, but learning a gamepad .. out of my depth. =) You guys should try to challenge yourselves and join the NHL94 community, well those who can't wait for the next live tournament at least.
  23. Hey, fixed my starting lineups as well and went through stats and fixed 2 minor mistakes in player skills. Utah had sha 2 -> fixed to 3 and there was a difference of +/- 1 in one of my d-men skills. My team should be 100% ok now, no more new versions from me. D.T. playoff v5.bin
  24. I edited my team jerseys & team name D.T. playoff v2.bin Also need to re-edit. I had different goalie ratings on my sheet. =) D.T. playoff v3.bin
