  1. Like Smoz himself said: one of the key elements of Blitz is continuity between seasons
  2. I think the point u make about the 1st 2 rounds of the draft is fair. I.e. king is sure of a 1st rd pick plus selanne or neely. Maybe no protects 1st rd is fair, then things carry on as normal after, so I could lose both my options on rd1 but then in rd3 its guaranteed I can only lose 1. That way the star players can't be hoarded but we dont have to all blow up our entire teams. The other point of view is that King cant get a combo as good as Selanne/Neely again with his low draft position, so he's not really gaining anything. He put the work into building that team so is it fair that it geta totally destroyed? I see the sense in no guarantees in rds 1 or 2, then all players available before their protect round comes up, but dont think the entire draft process needs to change
  3. So that looks like 3 drop outs. Lets get guys in off the waiting list & start the draft! lol...............am I getting a bit ahead of things here?
  4. Lindros will definitely be a first round pick, & for 09 the 1st round is not protected, so you might lose him, might not, but you'll definitely get an excellent player in the 1st round. You finished 8th in the standings & will gain some places for DNP penalties, so I would say you have a great chance of having a top star in the 1st round. You'll then get to keep another top guy off your roster in rd2. In round 3 every other player in the rom is going to be available to you before the next opportunity to protect in rd4, so after 3 rounds you're going to have 2 totally new players on your roster. Add to that the fact you could trade your protect picks & you're going to have more than enough opportunity to build a totally new roster.
  5. Still can. Trade ur protect picks or ur protected players. I started 07 with only 1 player from my 06 roster. There is absolutely no need for a reboot. It achieves nothing the current system can't do

  7. OK, so the original system Smoz put in place would keep everyone happy. Guys who did badly get to pick the top stars, no protects before the draft ensures evening out the rosters like a reboot would, & those of us that want it get the continuity. The system is already there to achoeve everybody's aims
  8. A reboot won't do what you think it will. It will start everyone on zeros but then experienced guys will make clever trades to end up with better teams anyway. 09 has an open pick first round, so the guys like King & Ice with stacked teams are guaranteed to end up weaker as they will lose their best player & have a late rd1 pick too. Then, by not protecting players before the draft their other good players will be available to other players too. They will 100% end up with more evened out teams, and the guys who struggled last season are going to be picking from the likes of Mario, Bourque, Mogilny, Yzerman, Roenick etc. There's absolutely no need for a reboot. All you have to do is prevent the protected players being protected before their protect round. The teams will totally be evened out. Can't believe more guys can't recognise this. The trades will then decide who ends up with an advantage. The inexperienced guys or guys with trade-addiction will end up losing out, but again, that would be just the same if you do a reboot. Also, allow guys to trade protect picks. If they can't use those protect picks until the relevant round it may not help them anyway, but it will help the guys who don't want their protect picks to get better players. I think there's too much complicating of all this. The system just needs that one tweak to stop protect picks before the draft, thus stopping player hoarding. Job done
  9. I have had a few players that have played multiple seasons on my team. Not the biggest stars or most important players, but the likes of Butcher, Verbeek, Momesso that i've really enjoyed using. My team has evolved over 3 seasons & is now at a point where i'm really happy with it. It wasn't just "These guys out, these guys in". There were progressions each season & particular trades etc that tell the story of my team. I can guarantee my team at the end of the 09 draft will be mostly made up of returning players. Like I said, I really wouldn't want to lose that "Dynasty" element of the league or my team. What it boils down to is what you want. You want to change, I don't. Fine. I'll keep my roster, you start anew with yours. Everyone's happy. I don't see why one guy should be forced to change if he doesn't want to. You or me. Let people choose
  10. Choosing to keep your roster or blow it up is a good option. That way guys like me who love their team & are sentimental to want to keep certain players aren't disappointed. Houly is right: Blitz is different precisely because you get continuity between seasons
  11. There are plenty of guys who could say that though. Point is you're definitely going to lose a top guy, & the late 1st rounder you get won't be as good as the guy you've lost. Add to that the fact that the system will prevent you from hoarding all the other guys on your roster & you've only really gained in the 1st 2 rounds, which 1. isn't really a gain as we've already established, and 2. Is fair enough seeing as you've put the work in over several seasons to develop your roster in the first place. It's a much better system than just blowing everything up & saying "Forget that team you spent seasons building. We're starting again"
  12. No, he still gets his picks, & the system does protect him from losing ALL his players. Maybe I didn't describe it well enough aboive, but it's like this, just as an example: KING'S RD2 PROTECT IS SELANNE & NEELY AS HIS 2ND OPTION. Round 1 I pick Selanne: 1:12 DETROIT SELECTS SELANNE King has now lost Selanne, but as a result is guaranteed to keep Neely so as to keep continuity on his roster. Both Selanne & Neely were available in RD1 but as 1 was taken the other was automatically protected. This is how the rd1 protect works in Blitz. I am proposing the same rule for all other rounds. Example: KING'S RD4 PROTECT IS MCSORLEY & MANSON IS HIS 2ND OPTION. Round 3 I pick McSorley: 3:12 DETROIT SELECTS MCSORLEY It doesn't matter that King protected him, I now have him, because rd4 hasn't happened yet. However, as a result of me picking McSorley King is now guaranteed to keep Manson. He didn't get his preferred protect, but does still keep a player and have continuity between his 08 & 09 rosters. In this way ALL players are available to everyone until the protect round & it becomes much harder for people to hoard star players by being able to have them protected before the draft even begins. Carse had Recchi as his 3rd round protect in 08, so no one could get him, when clearly he would have gone in the 2nd round under these rules. King would likely lose Eklund with this system because he could be a rd6 protect option, but would surely be gone before that. Does all that make sense?
  13. OPTION C: I would be totally against a reboot. I have spent 3 seasons forming my roster. I love my team & i'm looking forward to tweaking it for 09. I feel like i've got them to a point where just 1 or 2 additions would make it a really strong team. It's been brilliant developing the roster & I want to keep that going. There are players I now feel very attached to. What I agree on is the problem of teams being stacked, & no way of prising certain players away from their roster because once you've protected them they're, well "protected". This is a little more work during the draft, but here is my proposal. To me it seems the most sensible option: OPTION C: PROTECT PICKS ONLY COUNT IF PLAYERS ARE NOT SELECTED BEFORE THE PROTECT ROUND So, we all know King's team is possibly the best ever assembled: Selanne, Neely, Eklund, McSorley, Manson. If the draft stays the same he can protect one of McSorley or Manson in rd4, & there's nothing anyone can do about it, even if they want that player. What should happen is that if King protects McSorley, for example, in rd4 but I pick him in rd3 I've got him. Nothing King can do about it. The protect rds 6, 8 & 10 follow the same way. In the preceding round you could lose your protect pick. The only thing I would want to continue would be that all your players can't be taken from you, so, if his rd4 options are McSorley, Manson & Eklund & McSorley & Manson r picked in rd3 he automatically gets Eklund as his rd4 protect. In this way a roster can't be totally cleaned out leaving the coach having to build a totally new team. This system allows us to keep continuity from season to season, but without allowing guys to hoard all the best players they've accumulated through clever trading over the seasons. For me the "dynasty" aspect of having the same players season through season & slowly developing your roster with each season's draft is the best thing about Blitz. I certainly wouldn't want to lose some of the guys i've grown so fond of using.
  14. Practically a 100% return in B already
  15. My contract renewal talks are due to get underway next month. If they bump me up a tidy sum trips to the US become much more do-able. A franchise in Chicago is also being talked about which would require me to go out there regularly too
  16. Is there any info about how to set up a gens emulator on wii? Wud love to play the custom roms on there
  17. Big congrats. Have to admit I didn't expect it. You've had a fantastic season. Nice team. Already lookin forward to 09!
  18. Dallas will take it IMO King has more weapons & variation to his game but the biggest deciding factor is that dream team he's created. Must be the greatest roster in Blitz history? Good luck to both guys. Should be a phenomanal series! 2 of the best players but more importantly 2 of the best community members
  19. Ggs Chaos. Devastated at basically getting desyroyed by pens in games 6 & 7. Horrible way to lose after playing so well. Good luck in the semis. Still totally love my team. Can't wait for 09. Detroit will be back bigger & badder! Lol
  20. Fun thread. Reminds me of when me & Wookie fell out.......................hard to believe the majority of this community is made up of adults. This is the kind of drama you normally expect Plabax to be involved in!
  21. Chaos is only available sunday nights apparently & I have been away since before the weekend. I will be looking to catch him this sunday
