  1. Well why should it be a problem for a couple of people, but not a problem for others? If it's to do with the goalie patch surely it's the same for everyone? Is the playoff ROM i've been using (& attached here) missing the goalie patch? If so it's not a major problem to play a league without instant goalie control is it? We're all used to it anyway.
  2. Are you guys using the regular season ROM or the playoff ROM I posted here? I hadn't heard of any problems with the playoff ROM before
  3. But anyway, All I really wanted to know is how many people would be interested in entering this league to start with. Rules & regs we can finalise once the league is actually confirmed. Let's not skip the first step - Do we have players interested?!!
  4. I've had no major desync probs. Just the speed issue. Kupuck: As for overtimes, my point is do you start the league with the rule that you play the 60:00 clock so someone always wins, or do you say "This league plays 5:00. If it reaches 5:00 it's a tie & we decide it with shootouts, or we share the points, or whatever"?
  5. So what would that be, play the full 60:00 on the clock, or play 5:00 or 10:00 and if there's no score on to shootouts?
  6. ................So, is that a yes, no or a maybe? lol I also think the guys that would sign up to a league with this ROM would be the hard-core, committed guys, not the casual guys that sign up for classic & then decide it's not worth the hassle. We'll have to hook up for a few practice games Comeback & see wot we think to 7 minute periods. I'm happy enough with 5 but there is the thing about your Sc2 & Chk guys not getting much time. Then again the fatigue is more rapid on this rom, so maybe. P.S. I don't care about ur crappy faceoff % so the number of faceoffs in a game don't concern me! lol
  7. Hi Everybody, I think we all know about Clockwise's 2011 rom. An absolute masterpiece without question, and THE definitive version of NHL '94. Lots of people have stated an interest in playing a league using this ROM over this summer & I for one would love to see it happen, so the point of this thread is to gauge how many would sign up for it if it happened? I was thinking it would be like this: * 5 minute periods (perhaps 7 if people would prefer?) * manual goalies * Line changes on * Offsides on * Goalscorers recorded * Assists recorded * Penalties recorded (I'm presuming that, as in soccer if you accumulate a set number of penalties you serve a suspension? Sorry, i'm English & don't have an in-depth knowledge of the game like most on here). Speaking to Probob the other day I said i'd be happy to organise it if I had to, and he expressed a willingness to help out too. Only thing i'd want everyone to be aware of if I did it though would be these few things: 1) I'm not overly computer savvy, so if I do it you'll just be getting stuff like results & tables emailed to you in word documents rather than a website you could go to in order to regularly check things. 2) I don't have a website or online program to imput scores etc, so that could be a chore both for me & you, 'cos u'd need to email me scores & stats etc. Basically i'm not looking for any glory or recognition, so if you have experience of running an online league, would be willing to do it & have the stuff to do it better than me please let me know. My motivation is purely that I want to play this rom in an online league because it's so awesome & deserves the biggest platform it can get - i.e. an online league. The other issues may be: 1) The playoff rom has a 60 OT clock, so either you stop playing and call a tie if it reaches 10:00 or you play until there's a winner & say there's no ties? 2) Can people play & test the ROM. In the few games i've played i've experienced speed up of my players at times during the games (basically they all scream around like they've got rockets up their arses) which made it at times impossible to control & play, although my opponent experienced nothing so maybe it's a personal connection issue I have? Only reason I say is that i've never had this problem using the classic rom. Basically the 2011 ROM needs thoroughly testing to make sure it's suitable for online play before we go ahead and start doesn't it?! The rom is attached if you don't already have it. So, if you're interested can you please post a reply stating: * Your NHL94 username and AIM username (if different) * Which GENS league you played classic in (To see how we would split a potential tournament) * The level of commitment you think you would have to this league (i.e. "Let me know if it happens & i'll see" or "Count me in, I can't wait to start!") Thanks guys. Hope there's the interest here & that we can give Clockwise's masterpiece the recognition it deserves! Thank you Clockwise. You are a legend! 8. Have to agree. Being another newbie here it does seem sometimes like if your opinion doesn't fit with the right people you shouldn't be saying anything. Trudatman gets a savaging everytime he posts something due to the fact he doesn't play online games. He's just giving an opinion about a game he loves. Why shouldn't he? I happen to like playing offsides, because it's a part of the game, but also I see the other side of the argument - players are dumb & really u need to be playing line-changes or everything gets slowed down. I can see both sides of the argument, but i'm going to say one's right & one's wrong. All I can do is give my opinion. I'm currently playing a small online tournament with a few friends & we play full line changes & offsides, 5 minute periods. There are no more desynching issues than regularly popped up during the Classic season & for me I enjoy it much more than offsides off & no fatigue - Chicago need much more of a game plan than "give it to Roenick" if he's on the bench recovering half the game. But that's just my opinion so i'm not going to slate anybody that thinks differently. Like I said, i'd prefer a league with line changes & offsides, but I understand the logic of the opposite & am happy to play like that too. I just think we're all here 'cos we love this game. Anyone that wants to come here to add to this community & keep this wonderful game alive should be embraced & not jumped upon just because their opinion is different to yours. It's a big wide world & we're all a little different aren't we? Until there's a code of conduct up on this site that says "All members must accept that offsides off & no fatigue is the best way to play" anyone should feel free to say different if that's not their opinion & they feel like they've got a good reason for it........or even if they don't!
  9. OK, i'm using the "Genius Basic Gamepad". It says it's designed to fighting games, but what I like about it is it's got a directional pad very similar to the original genesis pads, but also the buttons are configured in a straight line, rather than the usual diamond on PC pads. Not sure if an advanced user would go with this but i've certainly been quite happy, finding the direction control to be excellent and the button configuration perfect. It's also pretty sturdy and has stood up to the season & a shed load of exhibitions extremely well. It's dirt cheap, so you may want to try it & if you decide it's not for you it's cost you next to nothing! http://www.geniusnet.com/wSite/ct?xItem=16775&ctNode=163&mp=1
  10. And no, I wasn't casually surfing the "gay socialites" webspage. I followed a link! lol
  11. http://gaysocialites.com/contents/2011/05/19/doomsday-rapture-parties-planned-for-may-21st/?thumb_date=2011-03-01 So is anyone available for a few exhibitions Friday night?!
  12. I would absolutely be up for any league anyone could organise using this rom! Someone please make it happen! It's the difinitive version of NHL94 without doubt, and it needs to be played!
  13. I agree there's no call to start calling perfect strangers chumps etc. Just seems to be a lot of anger on this site at times! lol. We're just getting together to enjoy playing a a great old computer game at the end of the day!
  14. ...................was that really necessary?! Surely on a public forum anyone's entitled to comment on any thread they like?! I noticed another member making the comment that he has experienced a number of examples of FPBs unsporting behaviour, so who's right? I don't actually know any of the people involved though so I won't comment................
  15. Hey, Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the guys that run these sites and organise the league. This was my first online season. Haven't played the game seriously in probably about 15 years, apart from a weekend tournament with friends about 4 years ago, so it was amazing to come in and see the level some of you guys are at here. I always considered myself a fairly advanced player amongst my friends, but seeing some guys here has been a real eye opener. I'd never used manual goalie in the past either, so at the start of the season my goals were to learn that and just be playing at what I considered to be a good level by the end of the season...................well, what do you know, I made the Gens B2 playoffs and lost 4 good games against Donnybrook's Detroit in the qtr finals, so i'm really pleased to have exceeded my expectations. The best thing was that in the regular season I got whooped by Donny and was quite angry about what I percieved as a real mismatch. "Why are players like that being put in B2?!", but come our playoff games we played out some really tight, competitive games, apart from a defensive melt-down in one period of game 3 which resulted in a big score. It showed me how much i've improved by playing you guys that in the space of a few weeks I went from getting a spanking off Donny to actually being disappointed I hadn't managed to take a game off him in the playoffs. Basically, kudos to Halifax and the other guys that run this site & the leagues, and keep the game alive. It's wonderful to be part of a huge community that love this game as much as I do, & had the same deeply meaningful experience of it as kids the same as I did when it originally came out. How on earth does a 17 year old Genesis game do that?!!! There's a lot of top guys here, either on the site who are always willing to help people out with advice like Smozoma and others, and then there's other guys who are always online and always up for playing exhibitions and actually helping newbies out with advise and tips like Comeback and WAGS (Yes, I said it! lol). I like that, that's there're guys who could think to themselves "I'm better than you. Tough s**t. Look forward to giving you spanking when we play our league games!", but they actually want to help others out. How many parts of life does that happen eh? So thanks to all you guys for making my first season here a really enjoyable learning experience. Don't think i'm here just for fun though. I will be looking to catch some of you guys up, and hopefully overtake you in the future. I know i'm not far away from the a good level again, and seeing how much closer I was to Donnybrook in the playoffs compared to how far away I was just a month or so ago has given me lots of encouragement and a positive outlook. There's been a lot of frustrations with manual goalie, and defenseman control etc, but I can see i'm getting there. Again, thanks a lot. I'm definitely going to be back for the next league, without question. I'm here to stay for sure, and that's testament to how well organised these sites and leagues are. If I can be critical, can I just suggest an A,B,C league structure please! It's a tough one to decide on, because, like I said, I can see the improvements i've made playing Comeback, Smozoma & Donnybrook through the season, but at the same time it's frustrating being a newbie, to be put into the bottom league, and have no chance of being competitive against certain players. Comeback with Chicago, Smozoma with Montreal and Donnybrook with Detroit dominated the season. They were the more advanced players, playing with the best teams. How many of the guys that dropped out (and there were a lot) did so because they were getting destroyed every game & it was totally demoralising? If the top guys in B2 were up in B1 those newbies who are well off the pace would have much more opportunity to learn the game, be competitive and make forward strides, instead of having their shitness confirmed to them every few days! Don't get me wrong, i'm in total agreement with the "Get better playing better players" argument, and I myself am testament to that theory, but it's also a bit depressing to think you have no chance of winning it when you're starting in the bottom league. Without Comeback, Smozoma, Donnybrook & Stanish, and with the weaker guys from B1 coming down I still wouldn't be the best, but i'd feel comptitive against everyone, and like I had a shot at winning the "GENS C" title, with a bit of luck. The way B1 and B2 were mixed up though that wasn't the case this season. If you had a clear pathway to progress (i.e. Semi-final in "C" = Play in B next season) you'd have a clear goal to achieve and a way to judge whether you were ready to progress or not. If I managed to make the C semi-finals i'd have an idea I was ready to move up to a new level. If I didn't i'd be able to judge myself against the guys that did. There were just a few mismatches this season due to the level of some players, and the teams they had which took a little edge off it. Like I said, I don't want anyone to think i'm saying I don't want to play better players, but the biggest improvements i've made are as a result of playing probably more than 60 or 70 exhibitions against Comeback, Wags and others, not the handful of league games i've played against them. Let everyone be at their level, so the top guys are getting tested each game, and the weaker guys are against players who are better, but not so much better that they can't possibly compete. That's all i'm saying. Hope my viewpoint has come across as intended amongst all this rambling?! Anyway, once again, great job to everyone involved in the organisation and administration, and i'm already looking forward to next season!...........When does it start and where can I sign up?! lol
  16. Pausing when not in posession in your own zone is bang out of order. It works the other way too: I was playing an exhibition the other day, 4-2 up in the 3rd period. My opponent twice paused when attacking in my defensive zone to pull his goalie. I lost my defensive set up completely & both times he scored to tie the game up. I'm sure it was unintentional, and it was only an exhibition so no real harm was done, but it made a big difference in the game. .......Fortunately I won it in OT! lol
  17. Well I always update regularly, but for the last month or so there's an important security update that just won't install. I've gone to the Microsoft webpage & tried to do it manually, attempting to install every different version available, but no luck. On automatic update it says it's installing and closes down, then when I reboot it's failed to do it.
  18. OK, Update: I found a file using a rootkit finder that produces new files - which wud explain why they kept coming back after the original infection. Also, I was playing direct through the modem as it was a better connection that through the router, but I thought maybe the modem doesn't have a firewall and that was the problem?
  19. Hey Donnybrook, Hope you're feeling better? Are you still recovering or are you going to be able to play our series soon? With the deadline approaching are you available this Friday night, Saturday night or During the day Sunday?
  20. OK Cool. Hope you're in good health, with the exception of a loss of strength in your fingers!
  21. Hey Donnybrook, Haven't seen you on AIM this week. What is your availability to play our series? Let me know. Thanks
  22. Haha. Thanks. Yeah, I googled it after no one replied here, so already done, but thanks for that!
  23. Hey Guys, I agree it's been a really well organised league. Great fun & i'll definitely be coming back for more in the future. No doubt about it! For what it's worth, this is my take on the coach groupings, and in my opinion doing it this way would result in a lot less drop-outs during the season. I actually feel that A,B,C would be the best way to do it, with promotions and relegations. We went through so many coaches in B2 over the course of the season, and I do believe a factor is that the top 3 guys in one conference are so much better than everyone else, but also had 3 of the best teams too. For the guys who weren't really at a competitive level it must have been very disheartening getting smashed by the top guys and feeling like they were so far off the pace. It was my first season. I'd never used manual goalie before so at the start of the season my goal was purely to learn that and to feel like I was reaching a good level again by the end (I count myself as a half decent player, but hadn't played regularly for years!). I managed to qualify for the B2 playoffs, so for me i've exceeded what my goal was, so i'm dead happy, but at the same time I know i've got no chance of winning it, and that's a bit of a downer. I agree playing better players gets you better - Playing lots of exhibitions against Comeback, Wags, Danlizhot etc has helped me get my game up to speed no end, but i'd also liked to have thought I had a chance against anybody, which isn't the case. Comeback, Smozoma & Donnybrook are far ahead of anyone else in B2, and also have the strongest teams, so it's like a double-whammy. If next season I was in with some guys who were around the same level, some guys who were a touch better and some guys who were a touch weaker i'd feel like I had a shot at winning it, even if I wasn't the favourite. I'd be motivated by a desire to reach the later stages of the playoffs, and push my case to be put up to the next level the following season. The weaker guys that lost most of their games would obviously be more competitive too, and so perhaps they wouldn't drop out so fast - They'd be trying to make the playoffs perhaps rather than knowing they're in for a beating most games, as is the case right now. I can play exhibitions against top players to help improve my game, but surely in a competitive situation you want to be just that - competitive. English soccer has 4 main divisions: The Premier League, The Championship, League 1 and League 2. Every season the worst teams in the Premier League move down to the Championship and the best teams from the Championship move up to the Premier League and so on. During pre-seasons many lower league teams will play friendly matches against higher league teams to prepare for their seasons. It's a system designed to stop mismatches and make sure everyone's at their level - The guys who has Pittsburgh, Vancouver & Toronto at the start of the B2 season were losing most games, because they're inexperienced players and a game for them against Comeback as Chicago, Smozoma as Montreal or Donnybrook as Detroit was a total mismatch. They never had a hope of getting any points because of the relative skill levels of the different players, so where's the motivation for them?! Like I said, playing better players definitely helps you improve, no doubt, but in a league a mismatch does no-one any good - The inexperienced guy getting beat up on, or the more advanced player who's not getting tested. That's my view for what it's worth anyway. I'd prefer to see A,B,C so there's more of a clear pathway to progress. If I can finished as one of the top 4 in GENS C, maybe the following season I can get moved up and test myself at a higher level against the likes of Comeback, Donnybrook etc. Much better than the situation I had this season of staring at mid-table mediocrity and knowing that realistically at playoff spot was the best I could hope for due to the far more advanced level of the top guys in B2.
  24. Awesome documentary. I'm not a hockey fan, just an NHL '94 fan, so I didn't really know about Lemieux the man or the player. Didn't realise just how good he was! Very inspirational. Makes how average he is in the Genesis '94 game a bit stupid!
