  1. Extending the timeline to Sunday so that we can get another few players and make this first tournament a little meatier.
  2. Yes.The way it is looking right now, though, I might want to stagger them by a week.
  3. It'd be nice to have that step done...but I'm going to make OT 5 minutes long anyways so I've gotta change something.
  4. metzgerism GENS I'd prefer Beer League ROM with Pens and Offsides OFF. ...OR... Either option for Classic, with Pens OFF but Offsides ON.
  5. IMPORTANT! Here are things that I have not decided: 1) What ROM are we using and how do we decide which team? a. "Choice" Classic, with the home player selecting the two teams and away player choosing the one they want. b. "Mirror" Classic, with five different teams which each player plays against each other. c. Beer League ROM. d. Other. e. No preference. 2) Penalties? Offsides? a. All OFF. b. Pens ON, Offsides OFF c. Pens ON, Offsides ON. d. Pens OFF, Offsides ON (the crazy hack that I made for the last FDL ROM). e. No preference.
  6. NHL '94 TOURNAMENT I If you want to join the tournament, make a post your AIM screen name and preferred system in this thread. Below is all the boring stuff, like rules and crap. Basically, this is a diversion from other leagues and playoffs that you might be having, but we are going to be serious about our games. Every series is a best-of-5 (until further notice, at least), 2-2-1 format. Games are 5 min periods, with endless overtime (second overtime must be initiated by starting a new game). The ROM will be "weight bug" fixed. There will be seedings to decide who gets home ice in a series, but they will be randomly drawn. The tournament is divided into three, 2-week-long stages: Registration (one week this time), Preliminaries, and Championships. When one tournament's Championships begin, the next tournament's Preliminaries begin, and the next tournament after that will begin Registration. For example, on Jan 2nd, we will begin TOURNAMENT II and start registration for TOURNAMENT III. If you are in the Championships, you cannot be in the next tournament's Preliminaries - this is so you can focus on your current series and gives more players a chance to get into the Championship round. BORING RULES Registration - until Friday, December 18th Post in this thread if you would like to be in the tournament. Preliminaries - Saturday, December 19th to Friday, January 1st Each player registered in the tournament will be randomly seeded into a single-elimination bracket. New players and players with demerits on their record will be first to receive "play-ins," if there are any. You will play your assigned opponent(s) in a 5-game series, with the winner advancing to the next stage. Inactive players should be reported to the thread every few days. You may "bypass" inactive players, playing later rounds against prospective opponents in order to remain active. At the end of the Preliminary phase, the tournament administrator will make a decision on the status of unplayed series. Benefit of the doubt is given to the more active player. If neither player in a series appears active or responsive, you may bypass that round completely. The tournament administrator can decide to retain an unplayed quarterfinal past the deadline, removing them from the NOTE: Registration for the next tournament will occur during this stage. The next tournament begins at the end of this stage. Championships - Saturday, January 2nd to Friday, January 15th The semifinal rounds and final round will be played in this timeframe. FINISH UP! NOTE: Any players playing in this round are not allowed to play in the concurrent tournament's preliminary round, including "retained" quarterfinalists. Seeding Stuff Seedings are done randomly, with one exception. Each player has a "drop rating," which starts at 1. If you have a higher drop rating than another player, you are seeded worse than them automatically. If you are inactive, unresponsive, forfeit a series, or get bypassed over a 2-week round, your drop rating increases by 2. If not, your drop rating decreases by 1 - your drop rating may go no lower than 0. Drop ratings also decrease when you are not scheduled to play. NOTE: This is a codification of my act of giving players with a bad track record a worse seeding until they shape up. New players effectively become provisional.
  7. btw this wouldn't really be a 1-night event - and I know Logan wanted to run something so I'd like him to take charge and this thread is meant to get feedback.
  8. Tournament! Speculation Thread Logan's thread: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?showtopic=11099 I want TOURNAMENTS! We could do something like Cup Chase, we could do some pool->bracket or something, we could do some double-elims... ...but I think the most fun and easy would be single-elimination, best-of-X style tournaments. Seedings are drawn randomly and play-ins applied if the number of players is not a power of 2. We'll have a deadline for registration and a deadline for quarterfinals - once the final four is set, those players finish the tournament while the rest start the next tournament. Who'd be up for this? Format questions: 1) Single-elimination or something else (describe)? 2) Best-of-3, Best-of-5, or Best-of-7? 3) Classic NHL94 rom, weight fix, or even teams? (stuff in bold is my personal preference right now)
  9. So that it's written down somewhere, for reference: 16-team Psuedo-McIntyre Bracket Opponents in Round 1 are randomly drawn. I'm pretty sure there are no rematches until Round 6 at the earliest, and the gap between possible rematches is at least 3 rounds. I think... Quarterfinals - Week 1-2 Round 1 - Preliminary Quarterfinals 1 - ??? vs. ??? 2 - ??? vs. ??? 3 - ??? vs. ??? 4 - ??? vs. ??? 5 - ??? vs. ??? 6 - ??? vs. ??? 7 - ??? vs. ??? 8 - ??? vs. ??? Round 2 - Qualifying Quarterfinals A - Winner 1 vs. Winner 2 B - Winner 3 vs. Winner 4 C - Winner 5 vs. Winner 6 D - Winner 7 vs. Winner 8 E - Loser 1 vs. Loser 2 (loser eliminated) F - Loser 3 vs. Loser 4 (loser eliminated) G - Loser 5 vs. Loser 6 (loser eliminated) H - Loser 7 vs. Loser 8 (loser eliminated) Round 3 - Elimination Quarterfinals I - Winner E vs. Loser B (loser eliminated) J - Winner F vs. Loser A (loser eliminated) K - Winner G vs. Loser C (loser eliminated) L - Winner H vs. Loser D (loser eliminated) Semifinals - week 3-4 Round 4 - Preliminary Semifinals M - Winner A vs. Winner K N - Winner B vs. Winner L O - Winner C vs. Winner I P - Winner D vs. Winner J Round 5 - Qualifying Semifinals Q - Winner M vs. Winner N R - Winner O vs. Winner P S - Loser M vs. Loser N (loser eliminated) T - Loser O vs. Loser P (loser eliminated) Round 6 - Elimination Semifinals U - Winner S vs. Loser R (loser eliminated) V - Winner T vs. Loser Q (loser eliminated) Finals- week 5-6 Round 7 - Qualifying Finals W - Winner Q vs. Winner U (loser eliminated) X - Winner R vs. Winner V (loser eliminated) Round 8 - Championship Finals Y - Loser W vs. Loser X (consolation series) Z - Winner W vs. Winner X (championship series) What I'd love to see with this format is three concurrent tournaments, staggered two weeks apart. When one tournament is in the quarterfinals, another is in the semifinals and another is in the finals. If you were still in a previous tournament, you couldn't join the next one, so we'd have to have 28 active players to do this and some reserves in case people bail early on...so this is really pie-in-the-sky. We could give out tournament points for progress as well (I'm thinking 4 pts for the winner, 2 pts for 2nd-4th, and 1 pt for 5th-8th), so it'd be like a big tournament season. Every 4 weeks would have 16 different semifinalists, and every 6 weeks would have 12 different finalists. ...I think it'd be easier/more likely to do it with 12 regular players (or 20 players and straight-up Single-Elimination brackets)...
  10. Okay I just realized that if I applied the bracket schedule I listed above to a 16-player tournament, I'd simply have the World Baseball Classic, sans unnecessary games. Still want to see if Logan's interested in running something like this because I think it would be really fun with a random draw.
  11. Which format sounds good to you? I haven't been able to talk to Logan and don't think he's seen what I posted.
  12. CC2 standings are up (in the Cup Chase forum) - but if you have the CC1 site archived or something I'm sure it'd help Logan quite a bit.
  13. I'm kinda thinking a simple, 16-player best-of-X bracket tournament, done on a monthly basis, would be pretty fun. Everyone gets one week to complete one round, or two weeks to complete two rounds with a stagger-start where the top 4 from the last tournament finish while the other one starts (they wouldn't play in the second of those tournaments, so you'll always have 8 different semifinalists over two tournaments...). If it looks like we don't have enough people, we could do an 8-player psuedo-McIntyre played out over 5 rounds: A vs. B: Winner (I), Loser (M) C vs. D: Winner (J), Loser (N) E vs. F: Winner (K), Loser (O) G vs. H: Winner (L), Loser (P) I vs. J: Winner (Q), Loser (U) K vs. L: Winner ®, Loser (V) M vs. N: Winner (S), Loser Eliminated O vs. P: Winner (T), Loser Eliminated S vs. V: Winner (W), Loser Eliminated T vs. U: Winner (X), Loser Eliminated Start Next Tournament Q vs. W: Winner (Y), Loser Eliminated R vs. X: Winner (Z), Loser Eliminated Y vs. Z: Winner is Champion, Loser is Runner-Up
  14. ...to make it look like a curling stone?
