  1. It's a Ryder Cup Style tournament between Canadians and Americans, requiring at minimum 4 players aside to make it work, and an even amount per side). Only existing online players are eligible for this (ie have already played in a league on the website). It'll be first come first served on Discord -> https://discord.gg/ZayufHtp4G We are using the classic rom and classic league game settings. Format 1. Each player will play 4 games - (1 home and away on Sega, 1 home and 1 away on Snes) 2. @chaos (USA Captain) and I (Canada Captain) will select who plays in each game and it will be done via snake draft. Example: Team Canada selected player B to play in the first game for Sega and they chose Chicago. Team USA captain selects player D to play against them and they must use a different team and they take Detroit. Then the next game TEAM USA captain selects their player first and the team they use, and Team Canada then selected their player and team, and so on until all games are filled. 3. Players cannot face each other more than once (which is the reason for the need for a minimum of 4 players per country.) 4. Once a team is taken on that console by that country, they cannot be used again until they run out of teams. 5. No mirror matches. Must pick a different team. 6. NEW - Each player must play at least one new player from the previous tournament. 7. NEW - 4 games (two SNES and two SEGA) will be added for 2v2. Penalties are turned off. Team Pairings must be different for each game, and no one can play in more than two games total. Players should put their names forward to their team captains if they wish to play 2v2. Ideally with a partner already confirmed. 2v2 players committing to play should be online frequently as we don't want things to delay. 8. NEW - A "Captain's Game" will be played between Chaos and me as part of the tournament. How Scoring works. 1. 10 points are awarded each game. 2. 4 points are awarded to the winning team, or two points are split for a tie 3. Two points are awarded for each period won or a split of the points for the same amount of goals scored in that period. Example: Angryjay and I play a game on Sega. First period AJ 3, Hali 0. (2 points awarded to USA) Second Period, AJ 1, Hali 1 (1 point awarded to each country) Third Period AJ 4, hali 1 (2 points awarded to USA) Final Score AJ 8-2 (4 points awarded to USA) Team USA leads Ron Barr Cup 9-1 after the first game. EDIT: Example 2: Chaos and I play on SNES First period Chaos 2, Hali 1 (USA awarded 2 points) Second period Chaos 1, Hali 2 (Canada awarded 2 points) Third period Chaos 1, Hali 1 (1 point awarded to each country) NO OVERTIME IS PLAYED The FINAL Score is 4-4 (2 points awarded to each country) Team USA is awarded 5 points total and Team Canada is awarded 5 points total for the second game. Regardless of who is playing in the game, the players are still playing for something each period to earn their team points. 4. There are no overtimes and games will end in a tie (similar to all-square matches in Ryder cup play.) Winner 1. The team with the most points at the end is the winner of the "Ron Barr Cup". (edit) Draft: The Draft will be done with four different segments to be randomly decided which segment goes first and who goes first. (USA SEGA HOME games, USA SNES HOME games, CANADA SEGA HOME games, CANADA SNES HOME games) Streaming 1. @smozomaand I will attempt to stream as many games as possible for this. Entry Fee 1. To make it interesting, there will be a $20 CAD entry fee per player (which I'm guessing is around $15 USD). The winning team wins the bounty and split it evenly among the team members. 2. Canadian players will pay via transfer, USA players will pay via PayPal.

  2. Hey all, I've created 3 new tools for NHL95 PC to extract in-game sprites, music & sounds. The sprite extractor leverages gfxpak to get the raw image data out of the PPV files before the sprites are converted to .raw (Photoshop RAW, not Camera RAW) and .bmp format. Note that the music & sound extractors are WIP and aren't perfect. Also note that these are all written in js so they should be very easy to modify & or reverse engineer for importing. Grab them here: https://github.com/abdulahmad/EA-NHL-Tools (each tool has it's own README with more info on it) Here's a sample of some of the extracted sprites: I've also created a few videos where I walk through how I figured out these file formats. It was originally intended for a fellow modder, but I feel like anyone who wants to know more about file format hacking can learn something. Here is a playlist of them: Just an FYI-- I used to be someone who modded the EA NHL PC games starting with NHL 95 and then NHL 98 all the way to NHL 06. If I recall correctly I was the first one who released modded rinks (under the pseudo name Chris and the group RTM but then later with my own name) and also figured out the Centre Ice file format. I have been sad to see threads from 2012-13 with people trying to figure out how mod NHL 95, so I figure I should publish as much as this info as possible. I am working on an Engine remake of NHL 94/95 in Unity so this is why I have been spending so much time hacking. I intend to make more tools soon-- the next one I'm looking to do is around palettes & extracting palettes from NHL 95 PC, and perhaps even 94 Genesis/SNES and have them in a format that can be applied to the extracted sprites and/or potentially even the ability to extract all the sprites with a specified palette. I also have started to create a document with information on all the file formats in NHL 95. I figure I will post that information in this thread as I spend more time on it, and also add it to EA NHL Tools github above.

  3. I tried to get rosters done in time for the end of the 2022 season but couldn't make it in time. This always takes longer than I thought, but the rosters and ratings are finally updated. I believe I have every player who's played every game so far this year for any of the teams from NHL95. Lineups were selected based on current injury statuses, so some top players with long-term injuries (e.g. Couturier, Ehlers, Backstrom) are scratches. Can't be sure I have everyone's number right, either, when moving players I sometimes use temporary numbers and I didn't have the patience to comb through every roster to make sure I'd fixed all of them. Remember, just unzip these *.db files directly into your NHL95 folder, backing the previous ones up somewhere first. NHL952223.rar

  4. I played with EA Graphics Editor and I noticed that VIV-files are actually TAR (the Unix designation for Tape Archive) files. In XBRUCE2.VIV file there is a lot of audio in it, for example all announcer voice files. I did extract these files and noticed that if I change the audio speed in Audacity (Free, open source, cross-platform audio software), I can to get out somewhat recognizable audio. Maybe there is a way to edit audio in NHL95PC? I do not have time (or skills) to examine this further now, but I just wanted to bring this out if someone is interested about this in future. EA Graphics Editor can exctract audio from VIV-files and SNDVIEW can extract/import audio from/to VIV-files. I include here EA Graphics Editor and SNDVIEW if someone wants to investigate this. sndutil.zip eazip110b.zip EA Graphics Editor: ://forums.nba-live.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=3

  5. Hey - Looks like there's still a few people poking around here. Anyway, I've updated NHL95 again, something I didn't think I would do. Obviously this is difficult to do in July, so there's still several players from the NHL95 original database still included, but they are all healthy scratches. Every team has at least 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies. I haven't updated anything else - team rankings, logos, etc. Quebec is Colorado, Carolina is Hartford, Winnipeg is Winnipeg. I've also found a copy of 2012 rosters that I did not know I had, so I'll throw those in as well. It looks like I must've done them after the trade deadline. To use these, merely unzip them and move the files to your NHL95 directory, overwriting the existing ones. You may want to use the Temporary Save function in the Central Registry to back up the existing database files. NHL95PCJULY19.rar2012FINAL.rar

  6. Trade deadline update. Created some players, changed some others, moved some others to free agency. Players who have been injured most of the season who have not returned yet are scratches, though on teams out of the playoffs I fudged this a bit. Players who look to be out for the remainder of the regular season are also scratched. TD1920.rar
