  1. If you couldn't edit lines after taking a penalty or incurring an injury, I'd be stuck with Gino Cavallini out on the ice quite a bit, and anyone who has played against me in person knows that I just can't have that! Gino is the most useless waste of skin in NHL 94. I will stand by that forever.
  2. I'll take this as the answer, for now, to my concerns in the "Pokerchamp SNES A playoff odds" thread. Thanks for that thorough explanation. I know that the crazy situation put upon you guys by all of the unplayed games makes things quite skewed and quite difficult.
  3. Good post, good to see the SNES playoff discussion started already. The only person for whom the conference isn't easy is for the guy who worked hard all season to finish in first place. My reward looks like it's getting shakazuzu in the first round, if he's still playing. If that's the way it's gotta be, it's the way it's gotta be, I know the whole "games not getting played" situation fucked with the standings royally and the the guys who worked out the DNPs and forfeits did their best. I also know that by and large teh league is just for fun. If there's absolutely no better solution that would be fair to everyone, I'll play him, but I do ask that the powers that be at least look into a possibly fairer situation........... the guy who played as many of his games as he could and won all but six of them, working very hard to finish first and try to ensure himself the best playoff odds, should not have to face another one of the top three or so talents in this league in the first round. I'll understand if there's absolutely no other way that wouldn't screw someone else over, but I'd really appreciate it if this was looked into as much as possible. Not saying I'm scared to face shaka, I did it last year, and I expected to do so at some point in these playoffs, but in round one as my reward for having the best regular season performance in the league, while guys who finished behind me get (no offence) MUCH MUCH easier opponents? Hoping it at least gets looked into anyway. Edit: Made this post before seeing the post made by geushneidt in that other thread started by ThePimpImp. I'm now under the understanding that the final standings won't necessarily reflect the way the playoff brackets will turn out, and I'll wait to see what the playoff brackets yield. My mistake for not reading that other thread first I guess.
  4. Hahaha great stuff. It's actually three games against shaka and two against the kid, wanna bet on the outcome of those mini-series?
  5. Tonight is the final night of the regular season, looking forward to playing you guys, let's get it on. I also have two games left against Washington but I guess they're coachless and will go down as forfeits.
  6. Have to go back to writeups for this one, what a game. Let me start out by saying that Mike very well could be the best defensive player in this league. I had been playing opponents with weaker records for a long time, and was used to basically cruising in and scoring easily. Was not prepared for Mike at all, and nothing I did in almost the entire first two periods worked. I had to redesign my attack, as my "tried and true" moves weren't good enough to beat his defence. I found myself behind 4-1 in the second period, and then called a time out. Shortly thereafter, Mats Sundin scored late in the period to make it 4-2, and then in an extremely intense third period, Sundin scored twice more to tie things at 4-4 and send it to overtime. The overtime was very tight-checking and careful, and it really looked like we were going to see a rare tie game. However, things would end in a very anticlimactic fashion. Ed Belfour went to play the puck at the side of his net, accidentally passed in the wrong direction, and Owen Nolan was there to rip it into the empty cage. After a game where one almost had to be two steps ahead of his opponent to score a goal, it was too bad that the game had to end on a garbage goal like that. But I had to take it, I hadn't come all the way back from a 4-1 deficit just to take the knee on a chance to win it. I've given up a few goals this year myself that exact same way, so I guess that goes to show that those type of things more or less cancel each other out in the end. Excellent game Mike, and may you go deep into the playoffs.
  7. Ohhhhhhhh man "Spirit of Death"- scary stuff!
  8. Can we still play games on Sunday? shakazuzu told me he'd be able to play our three remaining games then; I'd consider it a real shame to leave three games against him unplayed. And the94kid is certainly at work right now and I need to play my other two games against him too. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  9. Oh man, that was beyond unbelievable, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears when I opened it. WOW!!!!
  10. Totally interested, I'll add you to AIM.
  11. It's always lagged behind the GENS A League, but now it's lagging behind both the Gens B league and........... gasp............ the SNES B League. It's like 3/4 of the guys who made the SNES league work last spring just don't care anymore, or at the very least don't have time. Only one SNES League next time for sure, but I fear how many of the old and very good regulars we're going to lose. Will the calibre of the league be nearly the same as it once was?
  12. Thanks. I think there may be an LA game in there too that shouldn't be there, but I'm not entirely sure.
  13. I for one enjoy the realism of playing the teams in your division/conference more often and developing rivalries, while playing someone from the other conference is more of a rare treat.
  14. I know we have always done it like the real NHL; division winners get seeded 1-2 regardless of overall point totals. However, that would seem to not make much sense this year, as there are some divisions where everyone is below .500. Example- the Adams in SNES B, or the Smythe in SNES A. Think we should just rank em 1-8 based on overall points this time around?
  15. Oh no no, I did not just set you up for that................ oh mannnnnnn
  16. Haven't seen you around in a while! Have two games left against you. Would you like to get them in?
  17. I've seen you guys around lately, and have games remaining against all of you. There isn't much time left in the regular season. Are any of you guys up for getting our games in tonight?
  18. Rudy is another Cape Bretoner who is near the top of the SNES A standings. Something in the water indeed! Haha naw in seriousness it's just a lot of passion for the game and a lot of practice. All of us have had the game pretty much since it came out (I got it for Xmas back in Dec 1993, so I've been playing for almost a good 13 years), and we've been playing tournaments fairly regularly (once every week or two) against each other in person (using it as a predrink event before going out usually) for the past five years or so. Although lately it's just been 94kid and I and a couple of other guys who aren't in the league ; Rudy hasn't been around for an in-person event in ages, and the other regulars we used to play championships against have moved away. But there was a time (about 2002-2004) where big tournaments involving all of the Sydney 94 crew were pretty much a weekly event. Anyhow we love to play and have a lot of practice, so I guess that explains our success in this league so far! However, we're still hungry to see one of us bring home the championship. Last year the three of us made it to the final eight, two of us made the final four, and one appeared in the final, but none could bring home the hardware; JotaC and his Edmonton Oilers were champions. We can have all the success in the world but without a championship there's just something missing. Good to see another Nova Scotian on the forums! Do you play SNES or GENS?
  19. After a very tough slump midway through his season that threatened to sink his record down to around the .500 mark (unacceptable for a player of such skill!), it looks as though the94kid is firing on all cylinders again. Yes, a lot of his games lately have been against opponents that are just starting out, but he's stringing a lot of wins together, scoring a ton of goals, and moving up the standings. I'd write about more SNES A players and their progress but so few are playing their games. Congrats however to the new guys on the scene that are playing their games.
  20. What is up with the whiny bitches on this board lately? Maybe we should have some sort of um "personality screening" before we accept new coaches from now on............ there have been a few lately that are just on glue.
  21. Way to go boys! The biggest thing this league needs right now is seriously dedicated guys. I keep forgetting to add you guys to my AIM. I must remember to add you guys and play some exhibition games!
  22. Like the other guys in this thread said, you have to learn to manual FOR SURE, against the better players, the automatic goalie doesn't stand a chance............ I know a few guys who would eat the automatic goalie alive for at least 10-12 goals a game. Like angryjay said though, it doesn't take as long as you might think to get used to it, even if you suck at it now. The sooner you start practicing with the manual goalie the better, because you can't legitimately contend at all in these leagues with an automatic goalie.
  23. I have a hard time believing there's anyone in the game worse than Gino Cavallini of my Nordiques. His rating isn't overly horrible, but he quite literally can't accept a pass, and does everything he can to f**k s**t up on me whenever I get the displeasure of the computer throwing him out on the PK to replace Owen Nolan at LW when Nolan gets the gate. My friends against whom I play on console can vouch for the million times I've yelled "GINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at the TV after Cavallini fucked the dog on me YET again. God he's terrible. PS- The absolute best was one time I was playing in front of these guys I hardly knew. Gino screwed up because it's his job, and I started going on about how he was the worst player in the game, and one of them informed me that he was his cousin!!! He then said he was glad I brought attention to it because he had always told his friends he was cousins with former NHLers, the Cavallini brothers Gino and Paul, and they didn't believe him cuz they had never heard of them. So he was glad when I drew attention to Gino on 94, b/c it made them finally believe him!
  24. Just noticed I've been given credit for two home wins against Boston. However, those ended up not actually being league games, after some confusion between rockymrjc and I. I had thought he had taken over as Boston's coach and had tried to log the results as league games. I was later informed, once again amongst tons of confusion, that he was not actually the Bruins' coach. Therefore, I still have yet to play any league games against Boston. I look forward to engaging their new coach, Steve, in four games whenever he gets up and running. Just wanted to draw attention to this so the results can be erased! However, there are two league wins I've recorded that I'm waiting to see logged- two wins against BSDaemon, to be logged whenever he gets his password, which will hopefully be soon.
