Guys, I'm really sorry, but I just noticed that some of the weights on the View Players page don't match what they are supposed to be. I need to stop the draft and fix it. I'm just about to go out, though, so i'll have to fix it after 9pm or so. I may need to roll back the draft a bit.. sighhhhh

If you have some ideas for deadline policies, i'd like to hear them. The GDL system works fine, but I'm interested in coming up with something more adaptive, that moves the draft along faster if it's going smoothly (but maybe that expectation is a bit naive ). I'm thinking.. for the first 3 rounds, something like: round 1: 24 hours since the guy ahead of you picked or was skipped. round 2: 24 hours since the guy 2 ahead of you picked or was skipped. round 3: 24 hours since the guy 3 ahead of you picked or was skipped. the round 1 policy may be a bit too slow.. later rounds would just have gdl-style hour/halfhour deadlines.

i'm implementing the skipping logic right now. sorry for the delay, didn't actually expect someone to not show up for over 36 hours.

The fighting code and animations have probably been removed

great series. hope i taught bo just how tough playoff hockey is, preparing him for the next round! Casey was huge in this series, too.. my shooting % must have been <15% overall. 1/20 5% in game 2 (not to mention the 2 bloody posts in the first shift!). Bo knows when to GC.

i added nhlblitz.com to the poll. i'd still prefer to start with www.bl- for easier address bar access (favourites/bookmarks are for pansies!) blitz.com is of course taken.

any problem with blitz94.com? just worried it might be related to other things i left out nhl94blitz.com because it's annoying typing "nhl94" into the address and getting results for nhl94.com, nhl94online.com, nhl94dynasty.com etc.

This is interesting.. one of my "aw boo"s with 08 was that the checking was disappointing. I'd absolutely nail a guy, but we'd just kind of bounce off each other and stumble for a second. Pushing the checking power slider up to the max didn't change it much, either. There have only been a handful of times where i thought a check was "huge" (mind you I haven't logged too many hours playing it). It just wasn't as satisfying as NHL94's "BLOOOAARGGh!!" hit noise and seeing the guy go flying into the boards. That funny stuff needs to come back! I was playing against jtakkunen in GDL last night, and he has Bourque and Stevens on D.. i was laughing my head off half the time as the A.I. Bourque kept destroying all my guys: "long pass for Gilmour--(BLOOArRRrrGGHH!!)--OHHH Bourque DEMOLISHES him and sends him into the Calgary bench!! and the puck slides down to the corner for the goalie.." "2 on 1 (CRUNCH) ok, 1 on 1"

It lists all the players and their attributes. Passwords For those who didn't send me a password, your password is your name in the dropdown box on the draft page. You can still change your password from the default by AIMing me or sending me a message through the forum messaging system. Draft Constraints Duplicate players: can only be drafted once (e.g., only one team can draft Vanbiesbrouk). 6F,4D,2G: In this season, you can not acquire more than 6 forwards or 4 defensemen or 2 goalies at any one time. Pick Deadlines The automated draft system doesn't support deadlines on picks yet, so, for the first few rounds, we just pick in order. Hopefully no one is too slow... I hope to add deadlines to the system this weekend. Draft Discussion There is a Draft & Trade Talk subforum. Trading There is no trading until after all teams have 9 players (just to keep things simple this first season). I.e. there is no trading until after I have received the second batch of protected players. (Remember that the draft in this first season goes: protect 3 players, draft 3 players, protect 3 players, draft 3 players). You can trade a maximum of 6 players (or draft picks). Once you trade a guy, you can't get him back this season (pretend he's miffed at being traded).

As the deadline was last Saturday, I will put you in the "C"/Farm league, but currently you're the only one. Once there are more people in "C", you'll have games to play, and the top guys will get promoted to B (or possibly A..) for the next season. You'll also be in line for taking over no-show coaches in B or A. Detroit Vancouver is yours (in "C")

I liked the game for the most part, but the menu system is TERRIBLE. It takes like 7 button presses to do the simplest of things, and I found some things hard to find. Roster updates took too long, too (2-3 weeks after the trade deadline before the update was available). The first-person mode sounds pretty fun, but I'm not sure how it's going to handle skating one way and looking another.. could be tough to control.

so much for secret picks! to answer the question: yes, if you want to keep your goalie, you need to protect him in the draft (unless he's hrudey, because no one would willingly draft him!). ok, that's everyone! when i get home tonight, i'll put all the picks in the database and the draft will begin! my draft system doesn't support deadlines yet, though, so if someone's slow, we'll just have to wait for them (guess i'll fix that on the weekend..)

Also, you'll be able to sign up to have this page email you when picks have been made or when it's your turn. I haven't put pick deadlines in yet. Once I get everyone's top-3 protected player lists, I'll fill in "Round 0", then we can start with round 1! HFD/Minddefect will have the first pick, because he has the worst team (as rated by the infallible Ron Barr). 4 teams still have not sent me their picks (or I did not receive them). I also need you to send me a password for the website (used when logging games and making draft picks) . If you don't supply a password, it'll just be the AIM name you signed up for the league with. We should be getting our own league subforum on the forums... no word when, yet, though.

I need to finish the automated draft page still. i might get it working tonight. I am still missing top-3 picks from 7 coaches, though, so we can't start before I get those.

The thing is, if they made everyone good, NHL94 would have been just like newer games, where you can't tell the difference between any of the players. They would have no personality. I actually had a lot of fun doing stanley cups on 20 min periods with line changes. I had a couple epic runs with Montreal and Quebec. As for the goalies, I think they made some bad so people new to the game could score. Hasek was an unknown at that time, too, I thought? To me, it's the huge gap between Belfour+Roy and everyone else that is weird.

oh there was no error, those 6 wins were the extent of my powers this season. Apologies to Sungod, the only coach I swept! I did however lose 8 games by just one goal (including 2 against BUF, the first place team, near the start of the season; and 2 OT games against chicago, when my mojo was back at the end of the season. between those series, i was useless )

Wow, did I ever have a bad year. The team wasn't that bad, but I just wasn't very into it. Just over 2 goals per game for and 4 against. I'll be back next year, you'll see!

I forgot to mention: When you get the penalty shot at the end of the game, the puck will actually go through the net and boards. No goal!
