  1. You said repeatedly you should have stopped playing games long ago, because it would have helped you in the standings. I always want to play my games, all the time, even if it would hurt me in the standings. So that seems to make us different. I say I don't speak for anyone but myself because, well, I don't... Just one man's opinion. Takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. I don't believe the logic for handing out FF wins is bad. I suspect I'm not the only one who believes this, but - stop me if you've heard this one - I don't speak for anyone but myself. For example, right now I'm facing an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs with EDM and desperately trying to get my games in. A few guys just aren't responding. It would bum me out if despite repeatedly asking to schedule them, I had to take forfeits in some games where I had a shot at winning, and then miss the playoffs because FF's got penalized. But you may be right, I may be the only one here who disagrees with you.
  2. Howdy - I didn't have EDM when you posted this but am trying to complete the schedule... Looks like we still have a game. Are you available at all today (Saturday) or tomorrow (Sunday)? I'm good during the week before 8pm EST - we could play in the morning before you leave, or try to squeeze one in between 7-8, whichever works better for you.
  3. Hey - I didn't have EDM when you posted this but would like to get our game in. I'm available all day today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday), or during the week any time before 8pm EST. Let me know what works best for you.
  4. Hey man - I didn't have EDM when you posted this but would love to get our games in. Only problem is after 8pm EST during the week my connection is HORRIBLE. I'm available all day today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday), and can work around your schedule during the week, except after 8pm EST. I could get up and play you before you leave for work, whatever makes sense for you. Let me know.
  5. Okay, then I understood correctly. Well, I'm only speaking for myself, but I would never not play my games just because of the standings. You and I are different though. But other than that, you might not understand how it works. Someone who doesn't play their games doesn't just get FF wins, they also get DNPs and 0-0 ties. The only way you get a FF win is if you make efforts to play your games and the other owner completely ignores it. If the other owner responds at all, you can't get a FF win by refusing to play.
  6. Perhaps I misunderstood. You said: And I said that speaking only for myself, given the spirit of the leauge I would never not play my games just to secure an extra spot in the standings... Well, again, maybe I misunderstood. Maybe there is a different reason you should have stopped playing games ages ago?
  7. When that happens, I haven't been able to dive or save either. D-pad is fine, A-B-C buttons no go.
  8. I fail to see how you're penalized for playing games, if you are at all a .500 player or better. The best you can do by blowing off an opponent who is otherwise available to play is a tie. I can't speak for anyone else, but given the spirit of the league, I'm not going to let anyone else's availability or commitment ruin my fun. I'm certainly not going to not play my games just because I think it raises my chances of playing the #8 seed instead of the #7 seed in the playoffs.
  9. Hi guys, still trying to wrap up the unplayed EDM games I inherited. I've come close to getting games in with HAR and STL a couple of times, but it didn't work out for various reasons - I'm pretty confident we'll connect soon. The other teams I am having far less success with. I have some trouble connecting during the week between 8pm-1am EST (my provider is coming to take a look at the problem but won't be here until the 2nd). But to try to get the schedule completed I'll make it a priority to work around your schedule otherwise... I should be available all weekend, and can generally get away for a quick game during the weekdays if you let me know a little bit ahead of time so I can make sure my "real life" schedule is clear. AIM = addisonbr email for scheduling a time in the future = addisonbrnospamplease [at] gmailnospamplease [dot] comnospamplease
  10. I'd like to add, unless it's what you meant by (1), that being available to play games often is a really good criteria. The idea of A League being a combination of a high level of play *and* a willingness to play a lot of games and move things along is appealing. I make no judgments on those people who are too busy to play all the time - I can totally respect that. But maybe gradually rotating people who frequently go a week or (weeks) between league games into a B or a C League that has a lighter commitment (10 per month instead of 20?) would be the right answer for everyone, reserving A for people who are more inclined to play regularly. (Edited to add - it looks like Evan beat me by a minute and basically said what I was trying to say)

  12. This certainly kept the forum nice and tidy.
  13. I don't play SNES but I think I can help you. 94kid is a SNES A leaguer. Generally speaking, if you don't recognize the coach and he's not asking to play Chicago, it would probably be efficient to just ignore the post.
  14. Here's a 4-second goal I recorded, which is the fastest I've heard of actually happening. There's an extra pass in this clip; theoretically, I could imagine a 3-second goal without that pass, but I've never seen or heard of one in reality.
  15. I have to admit, it is sort of funny when a guy who sounds like Borat talks smack.
  16. My only point is that simply whether or not something is "challenging" doesn't necessarily correlate to how "fun" it is. To me, an uninterrupted flow of play is fun. To you, it isn't, and you prefer more whisltes and stoppages. That's great for you. If there are a lot of others like you, you guys should form a league with those rules, I have no doubt it would be fun for you.
  17. Well, people might not always agree. So I think it's sort of helpful to establish ahead of time the types of things that would be fair (or to be more specific, the things that I happen to think would be fair), so I don't wind up debating it in the heat of the moment when the score is going to massively affect people's perceptions of what they think is right.
  18. I can't disagree with what you say; to each his own. But I also find chess challenging - I'm just not always in the mood for chess. Sometimes I just like to go out and crack a few heads, cut down on the whistles and play hockey.
  19. I've sort of figured out a couple of guidelines for myself on this issue... I think if lag is so bad that it's affecting play, I'm willing to give people benefit of the doubt the first time around and restart pretty much any game in the first period, as long as I'm not up by more than a goal. (It shouldn't take a 2-0 deficit or more than 5 minutes of hockey to figure out the connection isn't working.) After the first period, I'm willing to pick up any game from the point where a stoppage was announced (say, 2:38 left in the 2nd period with the score 2-2). Or, but only if both players agree (and I wouldn't necessarily always agree to this myself), possibly: - Keeping the same score and period, but just replaying that whole period on. So if it's 3-2 with 1:37 left in the 2nd, and both players agree, starting a game from the beginning of the 2nd period with the score 3-2. - In a tie game, just replaying the whole thing. But again, only if both players agree, if someone wants to pick it up from the stoppage, that's cool too.
  20. The Chicago Blackhawks today took a pair from the Edmonton Oilers, but to describe it as good hockey would be a grave, grave mistake. Jeremy Roenick, often regarded as one of the best players of 12 years ago, spent most of the two games pioneering the new technique of skating around on his back. Sometimes his strategy of hurling himself as fast as he could into Bill Ranford and hoping that his splayed-out limbs would facilitate a cheap goal worked. Other times, he simply looked retarded. After winning the first game 4-2, Chicago did manage to put together one legitimate goal in the second game on their way to a 4-1 victory. Goulet streaking down the right side, then slipping a pass past the defender for a beautiful Roenick one-timer into the upper-left of the net. Observers were confused as to how Chicago managed to click so well after about 25 minutes of imitating a game of Smear the Queer at the Illinois School for the Blind. However, replays showed that the coach who usually controls Roenick was stuck on goalie control and couldn't switch away from Belfour, and suddenly it allllllllll made sense.
  21. Hey fellows, looking to wrap up the Month Two schedule. I am pretty flexible over the next week or so, so look for me online (AIM = addisonbr) or send me an email ( addisonbrnospam [at] gmailnospam [dot] comnospam ) so we can work something out that fits your schedule.
  22. Allow me to help. "I believe you will find this story bitterly amusing." "I am not very pleased with the gentleman who coaches the Philadelphia Flyers in SNES B League. If you lose a competition to this person, he does not tend to be very sportsmanlike." "Be careful when you play the Philadelphia Flyers! Not necessarily because the coach of the team is particularly skilled - in fact, I believe he emulates the real-life Philadelphia Phillies, a professional baseball team noted for its failures. Instead, I believe you should be aware of a general lack of sportsmanship should you fail in your match. Also, I suspect but cannot confirm that the coach may be a woman." "For these reasons, I would prefer it if the Philadelphia franchise was not a participant in the NHL '94 League. Do you find that agreeable?"
  23. I know we disagree on the best plan, but I agree with this general sentiment whole-heartedly.
