I've been pecking at this and I found one setback so far that is already making a difficult project even worse.  If you run a season and play through the first week games (there should be 4 games), and check player stats afterwards, the game freezes up.  Sooo, something that I did with the expansion is already causing an issue here.  Anyway, that sucks, but I'll figure it out.

You got it Neo, there is no spoon

If you want to go all low tech about it, i'd recommend just killing the audio input from the game, and then using your webcam's mic to capture the audio via the tv speakers.

It's crude, but also picks up everything else, and you don't have to manage it.

You should come to GB just to see what i'm working with.

It's on my bucket list for sure.  Wish all these tourneys were around 10 years ago when I didn't have 3 kids and a mortgage :)

The Chair incident from last year was the highlight of that tournament(if only the sound was on). I still feel like I can hear Jim Ross's voice commentating now.

Loved that QB Browns is Putin.

Stream should be good this year as you have to play with a president mask on.  Obama v Dick Cheney is going to be a good one.

I'm going full heal with a Hillary Mask another guy is going as Kim Jong Il

  4. So team selection is as follows.

    • Each team plays 32 games
    • You get to use every team including all stars once,
      • Thats 28 games
      • To stretch to 32, you get to use both allstar teams 1 more time and the ducks and oilers agian
    • Team selection is done before hand in secret to increase strategy and subterfuge
      • Do you play with a great team against superior opponents to ensure a win?
      • Or do you use a superior team against a weak opponent to add to team goals

    Scoring

    • 2 Points for a Win
    • 1 Point for a Tie
    • 1/2 Point for a Shutout
    • 1/4 Point for Penalty Shot Attempted
    • 1/4 Point for Injuring a Player for the whole game
    • 1/2 Point for a 5 Goal Win
    • 1 Point for a 10 Goal Win
    • 1/4 Point for getting all 3 Stars of the Game
    • 3 Points for Most Goals by a Team

Total Team goals and extra points are big so sometimes  its better to squash an inferior player than to narrowly beat a superior one

Example: If an inferior player is expected to get blown out and is losing 5-0 but scores a goal late to go to 5-1 the point swing goes from a 3.25 pt win (2pts for win + 1/2 for shutout + 1/2 for 5 goal win + 1/4 for 3 stars game) to a 2 pt win as the rest of pts are erased.

We normally do it with just two teams and it's much prettier.  Only use 22 teams on that

  6. Raph  is correct.  The smaller TV's are great for hauling.  Have a 13" that looks great and doesn't kill me hauling.  My favorite is a 19" black panasonic from the late 90's pretty light still and a bit bigger.  Picture looks like it's made for 16bit.  Some of the off brand 20" are almost 50 lbs too.  anything over 25" will give you a backyotomy

The best place to get CRT's is the dumpster after a retro gaming tourney.  Half the guys leave them there at event  :)

  7. Minnesota!

    My two cents

    • If you want to get the biggest turn out.  Maybe we do one of those member maps things and see where everyone is located and pick the location you can get the most people that could make a road trip out of it.  Lot easier to get away for the weekend without a plane ticket. Not to keep bringing up Tecmo, but the big event stays in Madison every year because they get a ton of locals.  Need locals to get the number up.

    • But Sometimes bigger isn't always better.  I'd say take your core group of buds that will travel and pick an awesome city with a NHL game playing that weekend and any extra locals that show up is just cherry on top.

I incorporated your boards signage and water bottle on the net into the working ROM.  Thanks @mack!

Also did the music test to a new area of the ROM and teams 29+ seem to work fine.

Awesome now put nipples on the chick behind the net...

    Music

I'm back on this project and thanks to the work on music for '94 from @smozoma here: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/11307-how-to-change-and-view-nhl-94-sound-effects-and-music/&page=3&tab=comments#comment-167211

it was MUCH easier to understand and find the same table in '95.  I haven't fully tested this out, but I'm 98% sure it works the same way.  A few tests with the first team confirms the find.

Team music offset table is found @067A20 and follows the same structure as the linked thread for '94.  I will test this some more with other teams and expand it to all 34 teams in a new location.  Thanks Smoz!

  10. TecmoMadison makes a weekend out of it.  But the tournaments are not connected and the big tecmo tourney is all done on Saturday.  Friday is a hang out, register and get in some exhibitions in and then I threw a NHL and NBA Jam side tourney.

The night before really adds to making new "buds".    Normally day of the main tourney people get butterflies and are not as talkative before the games start and new player may feel a little less welcomed.

I really think the professional stream put on in vegas is what's going to bring in more players to next one.  Having hosts commenting on the stream really  legitimatizes the tourney.

    Great job!
