In the quote above, I do think for 99.9% of people, it is all in good fun, poking fun at the other system. As a community, I know I appreciate the SNES guys. (Hell, Halifax is SNES, and he is one of the pillars here!)
I do prefer GENs, but you guessed it, that is what I was introduced to 25 years ago, or whatever it is now. Had it been SNES, well that would be my fave, no doubt.
I have played SNES a bit. But for a couple hours, versus thousands of hours on GENS. But I do think GENs is a "deeper" game. (I am not saying "better".)Reason 1: The Weight Bug/CB checking
So a flaw in the source code makes it a richer and more demanding game. That is ironic that something broken enhances it; at a high level, anyway.
Reason 2: Pass shots
Pass shots happen more in GEN's, and in more varieties, which are also high level skills that make it richer. From what I gather, anyway.
On a side note, I suck at CB checking and pass shots, so the skill requirement effectively weeds me out. No doubt if I played SNES, I would be challenging for the top spot. (Joke.)

This could be a great recruitment tool for the community! I hope there is some terrific, unknown talent discovered.

As Smoz and Raph mentioned, agility is the #1 attribute, and absolutely Belfour and Roy are the best. Not sure how your experience is so different, but this is inarguable.
On the ROM, all attributes are from 1-6, and Roy and Eddie are the only two that have 6/6 agility. Fuhr has 5/6, and is the 3rd best goalie, though -- unlike Roy and Eddie -- some might quibble. After those top 3, there is a big drop off, and correspondingly, the agilities are 4 or less. -

People are mostly using Retroarch instead of Gens these days. Once it is installed, you can "drive" it with a controller, and bypass the keyboard entirely (except for a couple needed keys).
Sooo.... I would recommend installing it, using a controller, and seeing if if the laptop is really too slow or not versus CPU. If it works, then try netplay.

I actually corresponded with Jim Simmons myself.
I did not want to divulge too much at the time, because I didn't want to rain on Mikey's parade. But! A lot of time has passed, and I think I should release an interview I had with Jim Simmons (kind of a fan boy thing where I ask a bunch of questions). I am going to email him and ask if it is ok. The guy is a freaking genius. I wanted to see his story in the documentary, but I am not even sure how to see it, or how much screen time he has...-

I did not make any quotes that made the teaser, BUT!
I just re-watched it and noticed that my Sega and NHL94 cartdrige -- which has a #2 on it and a strawberry sticker (so I would know it was mine when it came time to collect) -- is showcased for over 2 seconds, halfway through, in a closeup. NAILED IT!!! Just showed the wife and my kid and they had no reaction.-

Hi,
I recently had some extra time, and got port forwarding working. But here is the thing: it seems slower to me!
Using Gens (or RA), there is a very consistent 'lag'. (But it is not erratic, or spikey. It is consistent. Feels like a small delay, in the milliseconds. But it is throwing off my timing, and making things seem sort of "floaty"; like I am playing underwater.)
Anyone have any insights?
Here is my setup:
Win10 wired connection (I disabled the wifi drivers, too)
Fiber Internet (very fast)
Bell Home Hub 3000 router / Sagemcom 5566
In the Port Forwarding, I added two rules:
1 for Gens (port 27886 UDP only)
1 for RA (port 55435, TCP only)

It is set to One Player mode, and yet they do not realize. Also, they are horrible. (Well, the one that is actually playing is.)

Here is my feedback for the latest rendition: King of 94 IV in Toronto.
Halifax and Smoz do an amazing job, of course. I figure these two must have to go into hibernation for two weeks after all of the effort that must go into putting this thing together. And Sroka was great with the stream.
Some quick Pros and Cons:
PROS
- 2 day event (with a dedicated day for Sega and one for SNES)
- Stream
- Facility itself (very modern and professional) *
- Those CRTs! They were great quality -- big, and in great condition for the most part.
- Organization (getting games in, and scores in, seems better/easier than ever)

Got lots of games. Having a minimum of 6 games is cool. I think I had 12 games (made it to Round 3)
CONS
- Location (so far outside of Toronto) *
-
No beer! *
* In short, the facility itself is amazing, but the location/alcohol sitch knocks it down considerably. - Too few locals came out
- Wish more forum dudes made the trip, too
- Cost: $50 seems pricey. I wish it was like $15, just to cover expenses, and no (or little) prize $$
On a personal level, Atomic and I (who live in Toronto) got a hotel room for Friday night, thinking there would be some games happening, and to save travel time the next day. In retrospect, we should have booked a hotel for Saturday. After the Sega events Saturday, if we had a room, there would likely be more social games happening, plus we could have had place to relax after we got eliminated. I went home -- which took 90 minutes!! -- and was too burnt out to make it out again on Saturday. (I had the stream on from the comfort of my own home as soon as I got home, and it was awesome to watch! Especially the finals between AJ and Raph. Best finals ever, "in your life!", to quote Hali!) Note to self: Book hotel for day of the Sega event if it is in Toronto again.
And I do selfishly hope the next one is in Toronto, too, but we need to get the beer sorted!

Ok, gotta keep it real here:
1. Halifax should be Bud of the Year. (But I know he doesn't include himself in the running. Which just goes to show why he should be bud of the year! Never mind that, Bud of the Decade!)
That aside, I would have to say:
2. Chaos should be Bud of the Year. If didn't have his finger in every pie here, well, it would be like the NHL94 community here hits an iceberg and the whole thing goes under, quickly!
But he has won it 2 years straight. So:
3. I am voting for @danTML7! His Twitch streams and personality are really helping the community in much needed way, at a much needed time, with the influx of new people.
@Jkline3 and @smozoma are worthy candidates as well, of course. Now that I think on it, we are lucky to have so many good Buds in this community, at the moment! In fact, the "Good Apple" to "Bad Apple" ratio might be at an all time high right now, heh!
