The NHL will adopt the KHL's point system in the next Governor's meetings, to be active for the 2009-2010 season. The KHL and NHL will each expand to 32 teams by 2011-2012. The KHL will adopt at least a 70-game season and push back their own playoffs to fit more closely with the NHL playoffs. In 2013, the Victoria Cup will be changed in format to be a seven-game (2-3-2) series between the Gagarin Cup and Stanley Cup champions, played in early June. After five years of doing this, the KHL and NHL are at a stand-still as to whether the Stanley Cup should be awarded to the NHL-KHL series champs or not, inter-league play, and salary cap issues.
