I just published an interview with Michael J. Sokyrka, who did much of the music for NHL '94. You can see it here: http://puckjunk.com/2018/12/21/interview-michael-j-sokyrka-nhl-94-music-composer/ Thanks for reading!

First and foremost, THANK YOU to @Evan, @chaos and @MikeGartner22 for putting together a successful tournament! In case you didn't know, these buds are awesome and everyone contributed to the success of this tournament in different ways! Special thanks to @corbettkb, who took the time to show @CoachMac around NYC, help out in any way he could, and just being completely selfless all the time. He even picked up the food tab Friday! An amazing asset to the '94 community and amazing competitor as well! Glad we were able to hang out for a couple days! Speaking of Coach, I am a fan and was very happy that he could make it to the tournament. I hope you had a great time, and that your trip was worthwhile. I promise to do the trip out to Nevada one day to hang out in your neck of the woods (mountains?) when I can score some cheap flights! As I reflect upon the weekend, it always comes down to the same thing -- enjoying spending time with the 94 community, both known and all the new buds I got to meet! So happy that @IAmFleury'sHipCheck was able to make it from Chicago and @kylewat took the Amtrack from Baltimore! I haven't seen Zep since Toronto; it was great to hang out and for him to show how strong of a '94 player he truly is! IMO, he is usually underrated because of his play style. EA, as usual, is great to talk to all day and I thought he played better than I have seen in some time! So appreciative that you come down and I cherish the signed '94 box that has become your calling card. Many many thanks! Great to see @skoolyardpuck again, great to hang/chat and play '94 with this guy. Hope to continue to see you around! @eggink444 and @da94wookiee came back from the '94 graveyard, and also hopped on for some great color commentary on the stream! Cheers to you guys! @aepurniet was a pleasure to meet you in person, and I think you officially ordered the first drink! Hope you had a great time bud! @Sdogg made the trip into the city and he brought the great energy, and was close to convincing his lovely wife to play! @crazygoalie33 hasn't missed any tournaments and seems to get some rough draws, this one included, playing wookie, Tex and eggink in the RR, only to meet eggink in the opening bracket losing a close 3 game set! @Bad Moon Rison , always appreciate the kind words and insights. You have run many Tecmo tournaments, from which we have taken ideas from, and love to see you continue to enter and play '94 tournies! (sorry to have knocked you out of the tourney bud). @banditra101801 (George) - happy you were able to make the tournament and even play in place of a no-show! Hope you had a great time! Finally, all the buds like @superfan99, Chris O. Matt, Ron D, and anyone who made the tournament that I may have missed, I hope you all had a great time! I encourage any/all feedback. At the end of the day we (whether us who ran NYC, or others like @halifax and @Edge of 94' WI) just want to make sure we're doing the best we can to make it enjoyable for all. Other thoughts LOVED * Random starting order vs pre-ranking * Modified swiss style round robin format, followed by elimination game. The swiss style led to some amazing round 3,4,5 games! * Buds who jumped on for streaming commentary. I will be making a highlight reel from the day to share in the near future! * Overall community, everyone is so cool, which makes running a tournament much smoother than I think. I'm constantly worried about things and I shouldn't underestimate you guys (all of you). CONSIDERATIONS * Handling of no-shows. Expected 1-2, did not expect 4. Also expected more guests. * Streaming set up. In short, I think a longer RCA cable will allow me to have the streaming/commentators a little further from the players. I also want the output to be broadcast for a larger crowd to see. * Add team and home/away to data capture for future analytics. While I fear over-complicating score entry, this has run very smooth for us in the past few tournies. Small tweaks to the scoresheets. Finally, on my own personal play, I am happy to have come out on top this tournament. My final opponents were Lupz, Tex and Zep, who, I feel, each could have won this tournament themselves. I got Lupz in game 01 early, and I knew he was not playing up to speed. It's almost like a sucker punch to the gut to start a fight, I was lucky to get one so quick. Game 02 went down to the wire, and 8-7 OT victory for me. Given our history, that was more of what we should have expected. Lupz played well and had about 2 instances when his player didn't shoot the puck! Easily could have been a game 03. Tex had just beat EA in two close ones, and I knew EA was playing well. Tex also beat me in the RR with an amazing comeback during our 4-0 vs 4-0 match. I picked VAN-DET and Tex was nice enough to give me Vancouver, a team he knew l liked (Detroit isn't bad either, lol). Second game was another speed session with DAL and WPG. Looking back, I was locked in, holding Tex to 1 goal for both games, not an easy task with those teams and his caliber of play. Finally, Zep was busting people all day, I had called his earlier matches against MikeGartner22. Game 01 was a disaster for me, Zep kept putting on the pressure and I couldn't get my Rangers to shape up. Game 02 was the opposite, where I was able to go up quick with Philly over Zep's Blues. So both of us had lopsided games to start, leaving a game 03. It was my turn to pick teams, and I went with Chicago / Buffalo, a high powered matchup that I like either way. In hindsight, that may have been a mistake since both teams have amazing home ice and Zep was home. Zep chose Buffalo and I had Chicago. If I lost this tournament with JR & Belfour, I had no excuses! Well, the game unfolded with JR on a mission! He single handily took over the game, scoring all my goals. I felt in control of the entire game and having Eddie in net was the ultimate security blanket. Proud of the victory, and though I felt like a boob for winning a tournament that I helped organize, everyone I played told me otherwise, so I feel better, Until next time (LI Retro Expo Aug 10-11th!)

I am crying happy tears as @Lupz27 and @IceStorm70 are fully registered to play! This means in addition to some very high level '94 play, there will be lots of 2v2 after the tournament! Also, recent Classic participants @aepurniet and @kuefner have also registered! Looking forward to meeting you fine gentlemen (unless we've met before, in which I am dumb). As of this post we have reached our cap of 32, though we are holding a few spots for some special guests. People can still register for the waitlist or to just keep up on the tournament details via e-mail. Anyone can attend to be part of the crowd. Very excited about this event and we (all the organizers) are working hard to make sure it's gonna be great. Stay tuned!

Hi Everyone! The new hockey season is officially here!!! With it, comes a bunch of new ROMs. As I did a "pre-season" version, I am now excited to present my official 2019 season ROM!!! Here’s what you need to know: *Link for the ROM is below the in-game images. *The "Winnipeg Freeze Bug" exists on this rom as it affects all 32 team roms. *I created a new structure for all teams. Each team has 3 goalies, 14 forwards and 8 defensemen for you to choose from prior to a game. *This ROM is a “healthy/best case scenario” ROM. That means, most injured players are in the line-ups. I prefer it that way as it is more fun to play. *Many of the line combinations and D pairings were used or are being used (currently) during this season. *31 NHL Teams. *32nd team is a 2019 Prospects team (featuring Jack Hughes & Kaapo Kakko). *Kenny Albert is the new “Ron Barr” in my rom. Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated! If you catch any mistakes/errors, please let me know. Cheers! -The Sauce NHL94 2019 v5.bin Re-Uploaded - 4/8/19 (Playoffs Edition)

REGISTRATION IS LIVE!! https://smash.gg/tournament/king-of-94-4/details Please let us know if you have any questions. We haven't used this site before so there could be some things to work out. You can participate in up to 4 events: Saturday: [Sega] King of 94 ($50) OR Duke of 94 ($15) [Sega] Duke of NBA Jam TE ($15) Sunday: [SNES] King of 94 ($50) OR Duke of 94 ($15) [SNES] Duke of NBA Jam TE ($15) There's also a $17 Venue fee, which you pay once but covers admission for both days. So for example if you want to play Sega King of 94, SNES Duke of 94, and SNES NBA Jam, it's $17(venue) + $50(sega king 94) + $15(snes duke 94) + $15(snes duke jam) = $97. Sorry we couldn't get it add up to 94. The King tournaments guarantee 7 games. The Duke tournaments guarantee 4 games. The 94 Duke tournament has simpler rules (no manual goalie, use any team) and is meant to be the casual event. The venue helped us put together some good hotel deals. Possibly some flight deals, but I haven't heard any updates on that front.

Thanks to @Puck Junk, here's a page from Igor Kuperman's original ratings for the Blackhawks. Interesting that Shot Accuracy isn't specifically listed there, but we know that was a direct link to shooting percentage. I also notice that offensive awareness isn't there (was that also based on a stat?) and fighting is there, futher proving this was originally in the game and taken out at the end. Here's his Tweet:

Hey guys, here is the UPDATED PLAYOFF ROM for 2018-19 season. Special thanks to @slapshot67 for his work on graphics and player cards! Below you'll find the ROM and Excel sheet. Excel is in the zip folder, which shows player ratings, "Skip's ratings", etc. Changes from earlier 2019 ROMs: Player rating updates based on this year's performance, roster changes, some new player cards, playoff brackets to reflect actual 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I updated every teams lines, including PK lines based on top TOI on PK for each team, last time but didn't do much this time around. Injured players remain in lineup on their assumed line. Notes: -This is the 32-team ROM (updated teams, logos, player cards and graphics by Slapshot67). -Updated team rosters for 2018-19 season (rosters and player ratings by Skip). The 32nd team is still the NHL'94 Hall of Fame team, with original NHL94 ratings! -Weight bug is fixed (heavy guys are harder to knock down), and this ROM uses weight + checking = hitting ability -1 minute penalties (except for injuries = 2 min penalty). You can do 5, 7, 10 or 20 minute periods. -Hot/Cold is accurate in the pre-game screen and in edit lines NEW for 2019 ROM: Added in NHL Network's Kevin Weekes as the announcer. ROSTER NOTES: Some long-term injured players were also omitted (ie Stephen Johns, Christian Dvorak). 3rd line is usually a mashup of best players on a team's real 3rd & 4th lines. Tried to keep scoring lines as they are in real life, or how they "should be" when players return from injury. KNOWN BUG: The menu screen will freeze if the player cards begin to cycle for team #31 - Winnipeg. There is no known fix for this. TOURNEY ROM has continuous OT. The regular ROM has 5 minute OT. Zip folder has excel sheet with all players listed, including the NHL94 HHOF All-Stars roster, and Ratings list for all 32 teams. -Skip NHL19playoffs.zip NHL19PlayoffsTourney.bin NHL19PlayoffsSkip.bin

Maybe he's got a point? I mean, we do see quite a lot of tournaments across the country to celebrate and compete in NHL 96. I, personally, love NHL.com's coverage of the anniversary of NHL98. And, my god, who doesn't have found memories, as a child, of dominating NHL97 with Jeremy Roenick? I mean, it's always great to hear current NHL players reliving their foundest momeries of playing NHL 2001. To be honest, it's really a wonder that this site exists given how much the game sucks! SMH If you don't like a game, that's cool. There are other options. I just don't get the point of sh*tting on someting that so many folks love and have warm memories for just because you see a deficiency. Maybe I'm the minority in my opinion and response. But, NHL94 IS one of the greatest sports games ever released! Is it the greatest of all time, not likely given its age and the technology of the day. Would it have been cool to have season mode and fighting, sure. But, it doesn't hurt the game. Did it make it's mark on history more than the majority of sports games EVER released, you bet! There is no denying it and to crap all over it is silly. End rant. Cheers!

Hey guys, This is a special release that Slapshot67, KTup710 and I have worked on all spring/summer. Really, it began this winter while watching the Olympics. I missed the NHLers and I decided to make a ROM about it. This is the 32-team ROM, but since most teams are not that competitive with the big boys, I decided to mix it up a bit. This ROM is called IIHF Legacy '19. It contains 15 current National Teams made up of what would closely resemble the real rosters in a major world tourney, and 17 historic National Teams from different tourneys. The main ROM is a WBF-rom. I added a 2nd ROM that does not include the weight bug fix. KNOWN BUG: The game will freeze if you scroll through the USA'96 player cards in the menu screen. This is a known bug that affects the 31st team on any 32 team ROM, and is not currently fixable. This was a lot of fun to make. I've worked with the great @slapshot67 on other ROMs, and adding the work of KTup710 only enhanced this particular ROM. KTup did all the work on the implementation of logos, and he did some incredible work on the banners. @KTup710 - really great work bud, truly commendable in the annals of NHL94 lore. As usual, Slapshot did spectacular work on players cards, splash screen, game clock...even the IIHF trophy is there! I handled the uniforms, players, player ratings, lines, and selected the logos we'd end up using. Some Notes Where it gets fun is the Legacy part. We created 17 "Classic" Historic teams, with an added twist. You'll be able to play the Miracle on Ice (1980 USA vs Soviet Union), the 1987 and 1991 Canada Cup Finals (1987 + 1991 Team Canada, 1987 Soviets, 1991 Team USA), the 1996 World Cup of Hockey Final (USA vs Canada) and the 2002 Olympic Gold Medal Game (Canada vs USA). Also included is the 1998 Czech Republic team, first NHLers to win Olympic Gold. Including them threw off the balance of 16/16 classic vs current teams, but that's ok. The twist is where it gets even more fun for NHL'94 fans. We created 6 National Teams made of the original ROM's players, with original ratings. Some players had to be added to complete rosters, but the original NHL'94 spirit of the 6 teams is surely there. They're the Original 6 of this ROM :-) Players & Rosters I tried to make team rosters as accurate as possible, with jersey #'s and lines as accurate as I could find. I also tried to keep ratings "within the defined parameters of NHL'94". I tried to keep players mostly honest. If you know anything about my current ROMs, you'll get the adjustment. Keep in mind players may have different ratings in different seasons (ie. '87 Gretzky is the man, Mario went virtually untouched from orig 94). Check out the excel sheet for more on player + team ratings. I needed to add some players to complete the 1994 teams, which is why there are players who were not in the game on those teams. Also, I know Petr Nedved actually played for Canada in 1994. But, come on, he belongs on Czech, Czech needs players, and Canada is ok without NHL94 Petr Nedved. You'll notice on some of the Legacy teams that a players weight may have changed from their original '94 weight. I tried to make a player's weight accurate to what it was in real life, except for the six NHL94 World Star teams. I left those players as is, Tony Amonte included. Amonte is a lefty in '96 and '02. And this is the last hurrah for Jaromir Jagr and the Sedins, so they were included on the current National Teams for 2019. For KTup and Slapshot- we all hope you guys enjoy this ROM. -Skip IIHF Legacy '19.bin IIHF Legacy '19.xls IIHF Legacy '19noWBF.bin

9 House Teams… The White Walkers… The Westeros Hockey League… A Battle for the Cup Iron Throne has begun! WINTER IS HERE!!! I am attaching my Game of Thrones themed ROM. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS THREAD TO DISCUSS THE SHOW OR PROVIDE ANY SPOILERS! While many of us have watched all 7 seasons, so far, some may still be binge watching. Please don’t ruin it for them. We all know there are a few surprise twists by the end of season 7. One of them, is in this ROM. That said, if you haven’t completed season 7, and you are still watching, I do not recommend downloading this until you are done. One spoiler is within the game. Some ROM details: It contains the 9 major Houses plus the White Walkers as playable teams. As a bonus, I also threw in an 11th team that contains NHL Hall of Famers (the best of the best). Teams 12-32 are not playable. They are simply team #11 repeated/copied as placeholder. The playoff structure is set-up so the winner of the Houses squares off against the White Walkers for the Iron Throne. Because there are 9 houses, but only 8 can appear on the right/left brackets (see screenshot below), I programmed it to rotate every house out of at least one playoff scenario. So, in turn, no one is truly left out. All players, who are not White Walkers, are named by [Last Name], [First Name]. So, for example: Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Cersei Lannister, Tyrion Etc. This was done because, when you score a goal, the pop-up window only shows the number and last name of the scorer (and whoever got the assist(s)). That’s confusing if a team has all of its players with the same last name. So now, when a goal is scored, the first name appears (with their number). However, in all other game sections, you should see first and last name listed but in the order structure mentioned above. Not exactly a big deal (IMO). Not every character from the GoT universe is in the game. I only included those who are part of these major houses (both alive or dead). I apologize to all you Hodor or Brienne of Tarth fans. Lol Some characters included may not have been in the TV series but, they are in the books. As there are several women in the rosters, they are all defaulted to 144 pounds in weight (as we can’t go any lower). The team colors are based on their respective house flags/banners. Those flags/banners serve as the Team Selection &Center Ice logos. As the White Walkers don't have a banner, I found something that serves as one (a skull with a crown). Again, please don't not respond in this thread with any details/spoilers regarding Game of Thrones. Thanks and enjoy! -The Sauce NHL94 GoT.bin

I took the formula/values you came up with and made these Radar charts using http://mdp.tylingsoft.com/#radar-chart Unfortunately it doesn't capture things like sub-worthy players or handedness, or changes in perception of value based on the CB check and toddling. Just thought it was neat.

So well done! Thanks @kingraph @Evan @MikeGartner22 @chaos for running a great tourney and being all around awesome guys. Always love seeing @IAmFleury'sHipCheck and enjoyed making him sweat in Game 1 of our Playoff Series 9vs24. @superfan99 was great to meet and I was impressed with how he improved through the day. @The Sauce was fun to meet and talk editing roms and rating players. Also enjoyed playing some exis with him of my Original 6 roms and the classic rom. @Lupz27 was excellent to meet in person and further demonstrates why the internet sucks. Really good guy! @corbettkb HOW COULD I EVER THANK YOU ENOUGH! Putting me up in your awesome place in Brooklyn (I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld), Showing me the town on bicycle, by Subway, and walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. Playing exis, and best of all the Yankees White Sox game on Sunday. Very Fun! As usual I played poorly and seemed destined to be career minor leaguer when it comes to NHL 94. But open invite to all my NYC and Chi-town buds mentioned above to come out and ski, run, bike, hike, kayak, raft, you name it in my mountain paradise home! The X marks my Best run tourney and format, that I have been to since King of 94 #1 in Toronto. The no shows and the 1-0 forfeit victories would be my only complaint, but it was as well done and thought out as anyone could hope for.

There have been many rankings done for tournaments where we group teams into tiers, but something always felt off. It was either too many tiers, not enough tiers, or the personal preferences around which teams on the fringe make it or not into a particular tier. I am trying an updated method that doesn't group teams into tiers so rigidly, but rather offers a scale based on team. Here's my first pass: The idea is that you find a team and then a reasonable matchup will be any other team that shares the color tier. UPDATE V02 AS OF 04/09/19 You can also assume the top teams in a band are stronger than the bottom. So St. Louis vs New York Islanders, STL would be stronger, but that is still a reasonable matchup. However, STL vs TOR, TOR would be the stronger matchup, but still reasonable. TOR can't play NYI though. I found this to be a pretty good exercise in that it will also give you a general team ranking. Some teams are interchangeable that are only in one band (NYI/NJ/HFD/WSH), but it's really the fringe teams that make you think. I included the rosters of main players, bolded the top 50ish, and added home/away advantages. I think this can be printed as a good reference. Having said all that, I've messed around with this enough and came to the point where my mind started turning into mush. So I'm sharing it now with the group to get your input, see if it makes sense, see if I'm missing something, etc. Thanks for taking the time to review.

LOL, I was thinking about this the other day. What if I just got up and left (or died)? No one would know how the database or website is run. I need to give at least one other person info just in case my wife decides to kill me some day. I should write out some documentation. Also, since I'm an admin, I can just rig this vote so I win by default . Just kidding guys, thanks for the love and support.

It all started two years ago when I ordered a bootleg NHL ‘94 cartridge from AliExpress for the hell of it. I got the cart and box for $15. As expected the box (and box art) was really crappy. The cartridge shell was sub-par and the label was just a scan of the box art. But there was more. I knew they didn’t just have NHL ‘94 ready to sell cause they offered the whole line up of NHL titles from the 1st all the way to NHL ‘98. I figured they must make them as people order them. So if they can make NHL ‘94’s to order they could make any ROM to order. When it finally came in... to my surprise the game worked great! You can’t tell it’s a knock off from playing it on a real system. But opening the cart up to see the board was the breakthrough. I have never seen anything like it at that point. There were no ROM chips just a black blob that looked like Silcone on an empty board. After talking to some retro experts on Twitter they explained to me that those are “cheap” knock off “Glob Top” boards used to make cheap games and most people use them to scam people into thinking that they are buying real games. Of course I didn’t really care about the scamming part as the game worked perfectly. So in my head I thought, what did this cost the seller to get it to a $15 selling point. I know from experience that this stuff always needs around 100% or more markup to be worth it for individual sale. So... Cheap Sega Gens Box $.50 Printing labels $.50 Cheap Sega Shell $1.50 Custom ROM Board $2 labour $1(to burn ROM, print materials, assemble and package to ship) ______________ $5.50 cost of goods sold and $15 sale price is looking pretty good deal for the seller. So what are the strengths? THE $2 ROM BOARD! The box and shell are garbage. So what did I do. I did the research and found a company that is making high quality knock off SNES games in Asia. I dont care about the insides as I know the Glob tops work for what we need them. The trick was to find a good Shell and Label for a good price. We don’t need to trick people, we just want the game to work and play like the original. So we put a Glob top in a decent Shell and a nice label and we are done! So we go from a $40 custom game (or $100 everdrive) to a $10 game and it plays the way we want it to. With a $10 game we can now afford to buy custom games for a custom Draft tournament! After the tournament the game carts now act like a time capsule for the tournament and and awesome keepsake. Only thing we need now is people to play the games.

Being at my first King of 94 was absolutely AMAZING! Some of the most fun I've ever had and I do a lot of dope s**t as it is lol. It was so much fun and inspired me so much to want to help build a stronger 94 community and retro competitive gaming community as a whole in BC and Western Canada. It was nice meeting you all! If you guys are on social media add me up, I use Facebook and Instagram quite a bit. I'm also going to be more active on this forum as well of course. Hello everyone, I'm new to the online NHL 94 world. I saw the Vancouver BC world championship on Twitch and thought I should give this a try. I used to play NHL 94 religiously decades ago, so I'm curious to see if I can get up to speed with the rest of you. I'm looking forward to playing in the league if I can get in.

I picked up a 20' Sony, PVM (Professional Video Monitor) CRT and some RGB Retrovision cables, recently. I did a comparison and wanted to share the results. Best picture I've ever gotten, easily. Better than any emulator I've played on as well. The comparison LCD is a Dell AIO. Everyone is familiar with these. RCA or RF really doesn't do justice to how great the SNES and Genesis can look. Thankfully, both consoles output RGB natively without any mods. Up until recently you had to use a scaler, like an Framemeister or X-RGB Mini, which are really expensive or get SCART cables to pull this off. I did a post on pixelpuck a few years ago before I took the site down about SCART & RGB on a Genesis. It was a big PITA and I couldn't get near this level of quality. These Retrovision, RGB cables are pretty amazing, especially when combined with the RollsRoyce of gaming motors. SNES Comparison Genesis Comparison If you like to play on old hardware, I would definitely recommend getting a Sony PVM CRT and pair of Retrovision for your SNES or Genesis. The results speak for themselves. There's going to be lot of CRT's at Waves but I will probably be lugging this guy to Toronto for KO94-4. Hopefully it can be put to good use.

It's definitely worth a try. Lots of fun. But like I said, NHL 94 is just way better. But it's way better than most things in life.

A few years ago, a few forum members talked about an unreleased hockey video game called Road to the Cup Hockey '94. This inspired me to seek out two of the game's programmers and find out what could have been: http://puckjunk.com/2019/03/28/road-to-the-cup-hockey-94-an-unreleased-hockey-video-game/ The game was being developed by Park Place Productions, who handled development of NHL Hockey and NHLPA Hockey '93, and was even intended to look and feel like the "NHL" game series. Anyway, I hope you find this article about "NHL '94's long-lost cousin" interesting and informative. Sal

Things in and out of work have been extremely hectic these last couple weeks so I apologize that it's taken me so long to chime in with some input. Going into this tourney, I thought to myself "well, @angryjay93 will be there. Buuuuut no @kingraph, no @smozoma, no @corbettkb, no wild card @CoachMac (who beat Raph game 1 of a 3 game series in the tourney last year)... hmm... I may be able to make a run for a 2nd place finish... maybe?" I couldn't have been more mistaken. I find out while I'm driving to GB that while most of those guys won't be there, Raph will be making it in. Oh boy. Annnnd Darik (don't know Mr Aho's forum name) and @LeifErikson will be there. So that rounded out the threats that I knew about., that didn't even include Mr @MikeGartner22 who I had never met or played until that weekend. I completely forgot about The Shield who is solid through and through. He actually ended up knocking me out of the tourney as well. Regardless, for me, the live tourneys have always been a place for fun first and foremost and I was excited that there was some great competition. My only regret is not getting to play more games. Those weekends go by way too fast. While I had such an incredible time and always look forward to the next tourney, this wouldn't have been possible without troy @Edge of 94' WI. He took everything that was good (and even things he sought feedback on) from last year's tournament and made everything better across the board this year. His passion to run a seamless and fun tournament is clearly evident in the final product. Both the Gens and SNES formats ran seamlessly. Big thanks to our ref who stuck it out the entire day collecting submissions to enter scores! Other things that I felt just made the tourney this year to name a few: 1. Plenty of CRTs for games (There were no lcds -- I understand this isn't typical given venue restrictions and accessibility but it really made a difference) 2. Lighting was darker (no overhead fleurorescent bulbs) 3. Plenty of space 4. Food and drink offered (last year was a soft opening at the VR arcade so this was a welcome surprise this year) 4. Plenty of printouts to record results 5. Small details like the pens and coins on top of every tv already there at the start of the day 6. Huge fan of the national anthem singing (I know @Edge of 94' WI said his voice was a little strained but he boomed out both anthems in fashion) It was great to see the Dmen's tap crew there this year again. @DPS @mort1237 Phil @Green Majik Those guys are ramping up quickly in NHL and can't wait to see how they progress in more tourneys. I will be at Dmen Tap again to play them soon. For a second year in a row @Votaw drove solo all the way there from St. Louis. He is always up for games and he never has a mean thing to say about anything or anyone... a complete pleasure to hang out with the whole weekend. Really missed seeing @smozoma @CoachMac @corbettkb this year. I definitely look forward to seeing you guys at these tourneys. @kevincabarello I'm incredibly sorry for your loss and you were one of the first guys I asked about when I got to GB. I was devastated to hear the news. Be strong and I hope to see you in Chicago or New York this year. Congrats to @kingraph & @angryjay93. These guys are the champions for good reason. Not only do they consistently play at another level but they are class acts all the way. Special thanks to these 2 for calling my SNES series vs Troy! I couldn't believe what AJ had to go through to get to the tourney on Sat. After the bad buffet offerings that almost killed him last year and traveling around the entire US just to get to GB this year, I'm really hoping for some smooth sailing for him next year. After my drive with AJ to get him to Ohare, I was actually just happy to get him back to the airport alive. Especially due to the snowstorm, we encountered where we saw over a dozen cars, trucks, semis in ditches with people still in the vehicles on the ride back home... and we were in a little 2 dr coupe. I kept thinking "I'm pretty nervous... buuuut I can't be as nervous as the guy sitting next to me from Cali!" haha I just want to wrap this up by saying Troy has quickly become a great asset to the NHL94 community. He's a great play by play announcer, host, singer and planner... the guy does it all. I hope that he can continue to host this tournament in GB every year. Thanks again @Edge of 94' WI for all your tireless efforts!

I am going off the grid. I have never been much of a computer or tech guy and after spending the last few weeks basically off the grid, I have decided to go even further off. As most of you know my Discord account has been terminated and I am not playing in classic. Thanks for the PM's checking that I was OK from many of you. I still plan to attend LIVE events (possibly more buffed when I rip my shirt off) and check in on the forums from work now and again. I consider many of you my good friends and will look forward to seeing you at Live Events. The rest of you keep your heads up and on a swivel!

Hi, everyone. New SNES player here and new to the scene. I played in the King of 94 tournament in Richmond and got destroyed. Just registered for the fall league, hoping to improve my game. Looking forward to seeing you on the virtual ice.

I'm very open to hear ideas and talk about this topic, so it's unfortunate that Coach removed his post. I understand it is opening up a can of worms, but this is an important conversation to have as a community. I'd hate to see people get discouraged to have a discussion in attempt to make things better for us as a whole. Even if we can't agree, I think the healthy discussion is extremely important. The more people that speak, the more we know and the better we can make educated decisions instead of ones based on perception.

This may help some people, or just be convenient for any modder. It's an xml file that is a bunch of bookmarks in TileMolester for the 32-team rom template. To use, download the file and put it in the resources folder of your tilemolester install. RENAME it so the name of the xml is exactly the same as the name of rom you are editing. Then open tilemolester and open up your rom. To edit something, go to the top menu, Navigate and choose what you want to edit. After that, go to Palette and choose the corresponding palette for what you are editing. Voila, never look up a hex address again. (For the palette bookmarks, if it says 'p2' or another number, load the palette, then hit the right arrow at the bottom menu to go to the 2nd page of bookmarked palette) I hope this helps! Here is the official preseason ROM to test out. Extra special thanks to @chaos for helping out with the rosters today! Et_Tu_Brute_S02_preseason_01.bin NOTE: Penalties will show as 1 minute, but the timer has been sped up such that the actual time in the box will be 45 seconds of game time. The reason is penalties are limited to whole minutes as of now. I will tinker to see if this hack can be accomplished, but for now the speedier timer for penalties will suffice. Let me know of any updates/changes.

I was playing against AJ and Brutus about a month ago in Chicago and we were talking about how we were hoping you would be there. Anything we can do to persuade you to make the trip? I'm telling you from my experience, hanging out with the guys you've played with online for years is priceless. After the first Ko94 in Toronto, I couldn't imagine myself missing another one. The double bonus is @halifax runs a mean tourney! I know work is tough right now but I can remember the 2015 Toronto tourney vividly to this day and everyone I finally got to meet in person... since then, I've worked a lot of 80 hour weeks and you know, I don't remember any of those. Whatever happens, I think you're one that everyone would love to see at one of these events!

Hey guys. So I planned on running this league and had a nice window of time open to set it up. It's a cool idea, but complicated to setup and required time. Unfortunately, I ran out of time. I tried to get help, but wasn't able to do so in order to get things set up. Recently, Coach reached out to me offering to help, but I failed to clear any time to even call Coach over the phone and set things up with him. He's since then started up his cool little Retro league, so I'm going to put this league on hold until I get my more free time for NHL94. As it stands, I had a scare by a doctor got me all paranoid I might have cancer, and I ended up having to set up all these doctor visits, and get a colonoscopy done twice in one week (getting put under twice in one week). Everything got taken care of and it turns out I'm in the clear, but that WHOLE situation just messed me up and took up a lot of my free time, which I often used for NHL94! Not to mention losing just several days of prep for the procedures followed by being all foggy for a day after. Anyhow, long story short, I've been playing catch up on EVERYTHING in my life right now, and being real, won't be setting this league up any time soon. Sorry to stroke you strokes. I feel most bad about not doing a draft video for a second time on Flatcrusher! Once I get my routine back, and find a nice window to set things up properly, I'll re-post and start up a league. I might work on the setup slowly in the background in the meantime. Running a draft for a different type of league (Plablegs, GDL, anything like that, setting up one of Raph's pre-done google docs), that's easy for me. You guys get together on Discord, or on the forum, figure out when/what you'd want to do, and I'd help out, no problem. Brute

League is closed. Thanks, I think we have a good group. Please pick teams so i can send to @chaos and we can get going. Summary of rom and the rom below. NHL'67.bin Draft Order #1 Mike Gartner (Chicago BlackHawks) #2 Coach (Montreal Canadiens) #3 Aqua (Detroit Red Wings) #4 Atomic (Toronto Maple Leafs) #5 Tex (New York Rangers) #6 Ice (Boston Bruins) We will use the 1967 rom this season. The last season of the Original 6 and playing a brutal 70 game schedule 14 games against each team. The BlackHawks dominated the 1967 Regular Season and are the best team in the rom. Chicago had 4 of the 6 First Team All-Stars. Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Kenny Wharram, and Pierre Pilote. Stan Mikita won the Hart Trophy and led the league with 97 points. Bobby Hull scored 52 goals for his third 50 goal season and only the fifth ever. Glenn Hall spent the first half of the season painting his BARN in Alberta, but came back for the second half and was selected as the Second Team All-Star Goalie. Harry Howell won the Norris Trophy and said he was glad he did, because he predicted a young rookie for the Bruins would dominate that trophy for years to come, That kid won the Calder for Rookie of the Year. You guessed it Bobby Orr. The Canadiens finished second and were coming off back to back Cup wins in '65 and '66. Jean Beliveau missed a large portion of the season The Leafs had a rocky regular season, but still managed to finish third. The Rangers made the playoffs for the first time since 1962, led by Ed Giacomin in net, Harry Howell, and Don Marshall who would have won the Selke if they had it back then. The Red Wings missed the Playoffs despite a potent offense led by Gordie Howe, Norm Ullman, and Alex Delvecchio, but got poor goaltending and weak defensive play. The Bruins finished last after a strong start to the season but the pieces of the future championships were coming together with Orr, Cheevers, McKenzie, and Bucyk. The Playoffs in Original 6 Times pitted the #1 team against the #3 and #2 vs #4 The Over the Hill Gang #3 Maple Leafs upset the #1 Blackhawks 4 games to 2 in the Semi-Finals and the #2 Canadiens swept the #4 Rangers. In the Finals the Leafs won in 6 games led by Dave Keon and Terry Sawchuk. Keon won the Conn Smythe Trophy. As far as the rom goes Chicago is easily the best team. Montreal, Toronto, New York, and Detroit are fairly even. Boston is a step below. All the players are modeled after a 94 player though I have made minor changes mostly to weight, handedness, and aggression. Advantages are set to how teams played in 1967. For team overall I added up the starting 6 and divided by 6. Team (Overall) PP/PK Home/Away Chicago (86) STR/AVG STR/STR Montreal (72) STR/STR AVG/AVG Toronto (72) Weak/Weak STR/Weak New York (72) AVG/STR Weak/AVG Detroit (68) AVG/AVG AVG/Brutal Boston (63) Weak/Weak Weak/Weak

@halifax Please excuse my absence as I got in a fight with a giant talking grape over cosmic fruity pebbles. I also had to give my shield away... Long story (like 3 hours long) but I'm back. Hopefully I'll be able to make it in September as I'm relocating back to Philly this summer. Budgeting will be the tricky part for me; buying an house and moving n'all.

Kudos and great job to @Evan @chaos @MikeGartner22 & @kingraph for organizing this great NYC tourney! This was my first NHL94 event and it was great meeting folks who now have a face (and real name) to go with their screen name. It was a good turn out today and everyone was having fun. For me, as primarily a spectator, it was fun talking custom roms and settings with @CoachMac. I'm sorry that I couldn't stay longer but I owed my wife a day in the city. I did get a couple of exis in so next time, I'll be brave enough to jump into a tourney when it's near home again. I was impressed by how respectful everyone is when playing exis as well as bracket play. There was a lot of good sportsmanship. Anywho... Congrats to Raph on another big win and congrats on great event! Cheers!

The usenet threads are an amazing treasure trove of information. I was just reading through some of them and it's great. Here is a link to the release date one that you mentioned: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.games.video.sega/geicW6XI1ts/V4wtLHV_XIIJ Here is the first realization of the weight bug, where a guy notices that Gretzky can really hit: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/rec.games.video.sega/Ir--lOfmwqQ/fnSSjUWD0QQJ I love it all...will scan through and make a separate post to archive what was being said when this came out, which is undoubtedly Sep 24. As mentioned previously, the ROM header has JUL'93. Assume that is when the game was finished and it took 1-2 months of production to get the game ready for release.
