I started with the letter hack.  So far I have found that the alphabet graphic is used for the R,L,C,D, and it's the same graphic used by the credits and game.  Is there only one alphabet?  Anyway, the quick and dirty way of "erasing" the R,L,C,D graphic isn't a good one.  So I have to do more digging.

Alphabet offset: AAC52 (AAC5C in TM).  94 tiles.  Palette is 699034, palette 2.

Now, since the game is definitely bringing in these graphics, I assume looking around the code at any alphabet offset would be a good start.  Hopefully find where it pulls the letters and then modify that.  Anyway...To Be Continued.

    Nice Work!

I see why you say "dirty" looks great on Ice but you also lose those letters everywhere else:cry:

Also, the number is not perfectly centered.

Anyway, great start!  Amazing work!  I gotta learn this discovery stuff.

How did you find that in the rom????

So many things I would do if I had the skills!

#2 - Check that the ROM has a header. Compare the first 500 bytes of the custom rom to the original ROM

#3 - Send it to me, I'll do it for free. I've done my own before, parts are real cheap, I have them laying around.

#3 Hopefully you got my top loader.  Thanks for doing this!  Over $100 service you are doing.  I really appreciate!

#2 No Luck, but don't really care.

Hi. I'm new to the forums, but been playing NHL94 since it's release. In the NHL'67 Original 6 Rom, there's a Henri Richard, question is, is he the brother of the Rocket in that roster? I would love to play as the Rocket Maurice Richard, in which rom is the Rocket Richard at? Thanks...

Rocket retired after the 1960 Season.
He is in all of my roms from 1952-1959.
He is one of the best players in each one.
He did not make the 1960 rom, but he was on that team.
From 1956-1960, he played with his little brother Henri who would continue to play into the 1970's.

    Have Fun!

Challenge #2 Try and won the Cup and Go 16-0 on Best of 7 Mode.

  5. STRONG Work!

This looks really nice, love the Splash screens, Ron Barr, Ice, uniforms, everything is really well done.

I had started on one like this for the 100th anniversary and was never happy with the look of the uniforms etc... so I never posted.

    This is spot on---EXCELLENT!

I will check out in more detail later, but GREAT JOB!

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe the aggr attribute is what determines how often a player shoots, or passes the higher the number the more they tend to shoot, the lower the number the more they will pass when controlled by CPU AI.

I could be wrong, but I think I recall this being discussed before.

In NOSE, Shot Bias is roughness.

Gretzky, Lemieux, etc... playmakers/distributors have low zero or low numbers.
Hull, Richer, etc.....shooters have high numbers.

But there is more to it as if you sim a game with the Pens Mario will often lead the team in shots, so........I'm really not sure.

AGGR or Aggression is Aggression as in Penalties or being aggressive.

Hi I was wondering if there is a way to remove fans from a side of the ice because i want to try to make a AIHL (Australian Ice Hockey League) version of 94

    Yes it can be done.

I am not sure how @smozoma or @kingraph or @slapshot67 would be the ones to know how, if anybody still around here does.

I know there was a game where the fans all had on the Home Team Colors.

And the Ball Hockey Rom made it look like summer.

I couldn't follow this, but if you go to Vancouver my chances of attending will increase by 67 1/5th percent, which would be 83 and 1/7th percent after you factor in the 98% chance that AJ will be there as well.

You can keep on living that lucky night over and over again (it was almost 3 years ago bud), but I really do hope you come and prove that you're a great '94 player and champion!

    Priceless!!!

I too hope you can make it KG, always need characters.

  9. Nicely done, Seamor!

    I just checked it out.

Really cool, we could combine with my Slapshot rom for a "Movie Rom"

    Everything is really well done.

The 3rd Splashscreen is just outstanding!

Things I would like to see added and be happy to help.

    #1 Player Cards
#2 Probably in the minority here, but hate the white ice, this rom should have the original 94 rink. IMO.
#3 Home/Away Jersey, some are hard to tell apart.

  10. AngryJay drafted the Scouts roster and threw out the challenge of someone playing with them.

    I am taking that challenge.

I am going to try and Exi a full 160 game schedule with the Scouts in addition to my Regular Team.

I already have 3 exis done.

I will post periodically on my progress.

Here is the Official Press Release.

With the Detroit example above... I would guess that if all the teams are set to 0/0, a league would show a slight road advantage in the records.

Has that been observed? Is there a league that used 0/0 that's recorded on nhl94online.com?

Premium Retro League used this setting.

Season 1 Regular Season Home 28-21-11
    Season 1 Playoffs Home 12--10
Season 2 Regular Season Home 43-35-12
    Season 2 Playoffs Home 21-16
Season 3 Regular Season Home 39-36-9
    Season 3 Playoffs Home 15-18

    Overall Home Record 158-136-76

This is a good way to think of it, though it's not the whole picture.

If you think about my home/away records analysis, the teams like Detroit (weak home, strong away) had a nullified TOTAL home/away record. Which could only happen if in some games they actually had a road advantage to balance out the record. So when DET faces a team with weak home advantage, DET must actually have an advantage of some sort.

Unfortunately I've never been able to get around to rediscovering the exact effects. Not all player attributes are affected, and I think some are affected purely by the home or away value. Same with PP/PK.

It might be better to think of the sum as starting at -1. So Weak Home 0 + Strong Road 0 - 1 = -1, a slight road advantage.

Detroit is really talented that is the road advantage.
So when Detroit Strong Road (0) plays a team with Weak Home (0) there is no advantage and detroit is probably way more talented.
Even against a Strong Home team Detroit will at worst give up a +2 on the road.
The Ducks are guaranteed to give up at least a 3 and maybe a 5, plus they suck.
I don't see how mathematically that setting is not the whole picture, but you probably got better math grades than me.

    2. I didn't check, but I believe the hot/cold values to be evenly distributed in the above range. So thinking that they are cold more than they are hot, I believe to be a mental effect (our brains typically remember the bad more than the good... yaayyyy brains), or an effect that can only be felt after playing static (option 2) ROMs a lot.

    YES!

All 3 PRL were set this way and I believe it was about 50/50 or slight Home advantage.

I calculated it at one point but never posted.

SO, in OPTION 5, it states ALL attributes will either be HOT or COLD.

FOR me, it surely seemed that the number of times a guy is COLD and more specifically WAY COLD seemed to be much greater than any other combo.

That's why I'd rather have it where each rating is randomly plus or minus 8 points, because then you can still find some use for a partially cold player.

Just my take on it.  Maybe there could be an easy fix where speed/agility are tied together, Shot Power/Shot Accuracy tied together and Stick Handling/Passing tied together, but not all of them, so if a player is COLD shot, he might have a HOT shot!

That'd be way more fun than all cold or all hot, imo.  BUT, I can't code crap.

    We don't need more options!

I am glad you are happy with the settings.

I continue to think Choice 1 or 3 are the best, and 3 is my choice.

  14. Home Advantage can be from 0 to 5.

Strong Home 2 vs Brutal Road 3 = 5 Home advantage

Strong Home 2 vs Strong Road 0 = 2 Home advantage

Weak Home 0 vs  Brutal road 3 = 3 Home Advantage

Weak Home 0 vs Strong Road 0 = 0 Home advantage Personally hate it, but the best setting to eliminate advantages.
