  1. Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about the sprite patch, the page on pixelpuck with the patch said there would probably be some issues. I was hoping to use the NHL 2004 rebuilt mod's rosters for 97/98 and just work on them side-by-side, but as it turns out that roster has some errors too. So I've just been using Google image search to make sure I get them right. Hopefully there's a better way to edit the NHL 99 deadline ROM. I'm going to finish fixing the handedness tonight and upload the final product for you to work on.
  2. I'm working on Ottawa right now. But there's a bit of a problem: I accidentally started editing handedness on a ROM where I changed the title screen picture to the NHL 97 cover with John Vanbiesbrouck (was a little tired of seeing McCarty scoring on Hextall...). It took forever for me to figure out how to do that so if you're not thrilled with having to re-replace the cover picture, I'll just let you handle the handedness errors. I've noticed that some names left a letter or two off to fit the limit. I know the website has an editing section that says each roster needs the same amount of characters (http://nhl94.com/html/editing/edit_bin_player_info.php), but some of those names have some extra room like "Alexndre Daigle" uses up 15/16 characters. Do you know if I could I add in the missing letter and make it 16/16? Or would I have to delete a character from someone else's name before I could do that?
  3. I'm currently looking through the ROM for any more handedness errors. It's kind of a mess, as you said. Sorry to keep holding you up, but I'll post the revised ROM once I"m done looking through the rosters.
  4. Good news! With some trial-and-error, I managed to get the "Jaws" theme to play for San Jose's PP now. Who knew drawing penalties could be so difficult? I can literally hook a guy for a full minute and still not get called for it! I also tried fixing some of the goal songs, but that's a tougher task than the intro music. Let me know if there are any more musical inconsistancies and I'll try fixing them. I decided to use the Edmonton song for Anaheim/Edmonton/NYR/Washington, and used Washington's original song for Ottawa as a compromise on the organ music. Did you use clockwise's sprite patch? If so, is there a way to switch the Flyers away helmets from orange to black? Just a minor thing, no biggie if you can't change it. 97DeadlineV2.5_FixedPlayoffsMusic.bin
  5. Here's what I have so far. Again, playoff brackets are fixed, let me know if there are any problems or crashes. Music is mostly fixed except for the Pittsburgh (originally San Jose) PP using Jaws, and deciding what song to use for Anaheim/Edmonton/NY Rangers/Washington intro. Let me know what you'd like for the music, and I'll post up my final version before you start doing player photos. 97Deadline_FixedMusic_Playoffs.bin
  6. I'm uploading what I've got so far. I've changed the playoff brackets and music. NOSE has a handy option for editing the playoff trees, but I'm not sure how to tell which team is the home team and which team you take control of, so I just made different permutations of the brackets and copied/pasted them. I also included fake brackets with the teams that weren't in the 97 playoffs. Music I was mostly able to fix. Because the original 94 had Anaheim/Florida/Ottawa/Winnipeg all in the same location using the same hex data pointer, I can't change them separately when they're shuffled up. Now the teams using that sort of "Let's go Buffalo" chant are Anaheim/Edmonton/NY Rangers/Washington, and the chant doesn't fit any of them. I've been going through the original 94 ROM and I think the best song I could use for those 4 teams is the Washington "Let's go Caps" chant. It fits for Anaheim and Washington, maybe Edmonton (don't know what their chant is), and doesn't fit the Rangers. I'll take any other suggestions for those 4 teams. I also changed Ottawa and Phoenix to better fit their real chants. The other issue with music is the San Jose power play, which uses the "Jaws" theme. Pittsburgh currently has the San Jose slot and I'm not sure how I can get the new San Jose (which occupies St. Louis's original spot) to have the Jaws theme for their PP. I've left that alone for now until I can come up with a solution. This thread here has the info on changing music http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/11307-how-to-change-and-view-nhl-94-sound-effects-and-music/.
  7. Don't sweat the small stuff, once you get the hex editing down, handedness and other attributes are pretty easy to change. Thanks for the tip on NOSE, though, I certainly appreciate easier editing. I'm currently trying to change the music so they all match up to their original teams, and the playoff matchups. I think that with the relocated teams in the 97 ROM, all of the music and playoff brackets got shuffled because they're fine in the 94/95 ROM (same teams as the original 94). If I manage to get everything done, I'll gladly post the ROM in this thread for you, with your permission of course.
  8. naples39, I can't thank you enough for your work on these. And you changed the goal creases too. Great stuff. I can re-live my childhood days with the 97 ROM, so thank you again! EDIT: Mario Lemieux, Jeremy Roenick, and Mats Sundin are accidentally left-handed in the 97 ROM. I'm clueless when it comes to hex editing, but I managed to change them to rightys on my own so I wouldn't have to wait for a Version 3. I'll keep an eye out for any more minor stuff like that.
  9. Haha okay, I was wondering what was up with the goalies. The stuff with the player photos is understandable; I'm not even sure if there is a way to find all of them online. I wish I knew where the NHL 2004 Rebuilt Mod got its pictures for the 97 conversion (http://z15.invisionfree.com/NHL04Rebuilt/index.php?showtopic=2). As far as the creases, I wouldn't stress too much over them. It's a very minor aspect and you've already done plenty of work. EDIT: I'll also keep an eye out for any other minor errors like Eric Lindros being left-handed or Paul Coffey on both Flyers SC1 and SC2 lines.
  10. I have to echo orangeblack92 here. I can finally re-live my NHL 97 chlidhood memories, but with the superior NHL 94 engine.Thank you so much for this! I noticed that the goalie handedness is reversed in the 97 ROM. Was this an accident or was it intentional to mimic NHL 97 on the Genesis, which did the same? I'm also looking to do a few ROM hacks myself, and was wondering if it was possible to do what clockwise has done with NHL 14 and add in all of the player photos instead of the generic ones? Same thing for the crease tiles as well. EDIT: Don't mean to question your ratings, but where did the 92 overall rating for Washington come from?
  11. Where has this been all my life? NHL 94 is a classic, but NHL 97 was the game I grew up playing. I'd rush home after school every day to get in a few games with the Legion of Doom, and now I can beat up on the Pens with Giroux and Jagr. Thank you so much for this, you have made my day!
  12. Thank you! Everything is fine now. And thank you to whoever moved this thread to this forum. I tried making a thread here but it wouldn't let me?
  13. Every time I opened Gens emulator, the screen would turn dark ("flash") for a quick second, and when the screen came back, the Gens emulator would be opened and ready to go. I've noticed that after this flash, there are some graphical glitches, with small white outlines appearing on all icons, some icons such as the quick launch Firefox and IE looking weird with rough edges, the yellow folder icons looking weird as well, and most notably, the normally blue winamp mp3 icons turning white. But I every time I closed Gens, the screen would flash again, and the graphical glitches would disappear. Well, about a week ago, Firefox crashed for some reason and my taskbar disappeared, leaving a strip of black where it should be. I couldn't click on the Start button, the quick launch, or the icons on the right of the taskbar. So I tried rebooting Firefox multiple times and waited a few minutes, with nothing happening. It was at this time that I decided to open the Gens emulator. Well, that didn't happen. It was basically "frozen;" I could move the mouse around and open folders, but when I opened applications, they wouldn't open and the task manager wouldn't show them running. I was forced to shut down manually with the power button. Next time I booted up, I noticed that although Gens was not open and was not running under processes in taskbar manager, the graphical glitches were still there. I tried opening Gens emulator this time, but when it started up, there was no screen flash. There was no split-second of darkness. It just opened. No flash. I closed it. No flash as well. The glitches are still there, and Gens opens without a flash, as if it were perpetually open or something. Now, I realize this is a pretty small problem, but it is annoying me to no end. I'm not sure what to do. If anyone is willing to give me some help, I would greatly appreciate it. Below are examples of these graphical glitches. 1st picture: those icons to the left are normally blue. Now they are white. 2nd picture: folder icons that are usually sharp now have rough edges. 3rd picture: most notable are the Halo icon and CCleaner. Additional information if you need it: I am currently using a Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop that is about 2 years old. None of the music is downloaded, it is all ripped from CDs in FLAC, put in those folders you see in the second picture, then converted to mp3 and put in one big folder in the first picture. I've tried deleting Gens and downloading a new file, but it hasn't helped. I'm using the most recent version from the Gens website (2.13?).
  14. So I was feeling nostalgic today and decided to slap in my NHLPA 93 cartridge. There it was: the blood, the fighting, the organ music at the beginning of the game. But there was something else. Something missing. Then, I figured it out. No dump button. I had Rod Brind'Amour skating towards center ice and he was lined up for the lob attempt. I reached my thumb over to the A button on my Genesis controller, and nothing. And in my lapse, Brindy was promptly decked and left bleeding with yet another nose job. I was so used to being able to just press that one button and lob the puck to the heavens. Now, my only option was to simply shoot a high wrister into the zone and hope it doesn't end up on the goalie's stick. Which leads me to my question: If and when you dump the puck in 94, what do you use to do so? Do you use the dedicated dump button? Or perhaps you go 93-style and just shoot it with the shot button? Or maybe even line up against the boards and use the pass button to send it around to a winger a la-clockwise and his manly slam-dunk play? Or do you not dump it at all and skate it in every time? I'm curious and would love to know your preference.
  15. Thought you might like to read this. http://thehockeynews.com/articles/17135-TH...et-already.html Also notice his choice of console.
  16. No kidding man. When I saw you do that against me, I just had to try it myself. I've gotten it done twice, but that's it. It's frickin' awesome.
  17. He definitely had the potential. But it just was never meant to be. Okay, I'm getting fed up with people who keep bringing that up. Seriously, not every Philadelphia guy is necessarily an Eagles fan. Second of all, this is hockey. Let's keep the football talk out of the hockey talk. I hear enough of it already on TV and in magazines. Thirdly, most of the people who went to that game probably aren't even alive now. Or would you rather talk about Nashville and Mike Modano? At least it's hockey related. Filth? How about Buffalo? Have you been to Detroit lately? And if you ask me, Philadelphia deserves a championship just as much as any other city. We're a tough place to play in, but we're all diehard fans. You won't find too many places that will fill up with more than 16,000 people during a team's worst season. You want to talk about cities that shouldn't win, look at Phoenix or Florida. Unlike those towns, we can actually support a hockey team. Thanks for taking a thread about a great player (in his early years) retiring and turning it into an insult hurled at my hometown. Anything else you'd like to say?
  18. I LOVE Ovechkin because he hits people. I can't ever remember seeing Crosby hit anyone. That's why I also love watching Dion Phaneuf when I get the chance. He is, in Pierre McGuire's words, a MONSTER.
  19. See, at first when I clicked on the link, I only saw two members with their screen names. But it wasn't until afterwards that I checked the "Contact" section of the toolbar and clicked on the Gens members there did I find all of the names. My bad.
  20. Holy crap, that is amazing! Great nod to the legacy of NHL '94 and its devoted followers. Hey, I can see me on the goal line!
  21. Hate to bump this, but I just realized that I have an aim account. I never knew this, but I got an email from aol telling me I could use my screen name and send im's on my cell phone. Then I remember making one a few years ago but never got around to using it and stopped using aim altogether. Oh well, now that I've got it, I'm open for some classic 94 Gens action, usually on the weekends. I'd like to see some more members posting their screen names here so it's easier to add them all in one shot instead of having to go around and look at everyone's profile.
  22. I doubt it. Briere just doesn't seem like the kind of player that would pick a fight with Crosby. But I'm hoping Mike Richards will. He's not as feisty as Hexy was, but he's willing to stick up for the team and throw a few punches for his teammates. Richards, like Hextall before him, is one of the best examples of what it's like to be a Flyer.
