  1. you'll be sinking 5000% of your shots soon enough! add a little bit of skill to a decent team... there will be frustrating times when you allow goals without hitting the ice nor facing any shots... and everybody gets scored on, occasionally... but, overall, this game is tons of fun.
  2. he's right about the angle, but it's hard to explain. you want a slight angle, still aiming right at the goalie... fake toward the far side and then stuff it in the close side. work on the cut-acrosses and then focus on THE move once you have the cut-across down. you seem to follow the concept well, but you need more practice. good luck.
  3. watch the four plays I mentioned in that third video, again. the cut-acrosses happen again at: 5:30, 8:00 the move comes around again at: 8:18 -- study that part.
  4. yeah... lots of things... you need to practice juggling the puck from side to side without moving your skater to the side. your second try with Mario needed one more move, back to the short side. you seem to be picking the harder side to shoot toward, each time. you are doing something in between the two decent methods. either don't move until the last split second and pick a side as you crash, or make one more move, back to the short side. maybe try going into the corner and cutting back across; that's a move you need to learn, too. you seem to shoot right at the goalie, too... or to the far side, rather than the short. stop trying to play as both teams. skate more straight, but flip the puck from side to side. I really want to just show you, but I cannot. that third video I posted has the keys. the move is back and forth and back and then tuck it in the short side. the cut-across is the only time you want to really try for the far side; zoom across, just out of the goalie's reach and slap it in. you have lots of time in the shootout, skate around until the net is open. you will get there; don't give up. key problem is your stick work. move the puck from side to side and then pick one side before you crash into the goalie. play ASW versus SJ, but play only as ASW... you can do it, I know you can. it will feel too easy in time.
  5. start at 0:44 of this one: that's THE move, which appears again at about 3:15. at 2:55 (and again at 4:10) is the cut-across. plenty of one-timers in there, too. getting it, now?
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huB5qEyB_88 while most of these are weird goals, they do show that it isn't too hard to score. the last one from the second video is a more standard goal. I'm trying to find THE move for you.
  7. wow. I'd say "come over and I'll show you," but the chances that you live anywhere near me are slim. try cut-acrosses. start in the "corner" and speed across the front of the net, just beyond the goalie's reach. hold the shooting button right before you cross in front of the netminder. also, practice the shootouts by going STRAIGHT at the goaltender and picking a side to shoot on as you crash into him. you sometimes won't even need to shoot. practice as the Allstars against Ottawa. then, practice THE move. aim for the goalie and switch the puck from side to side as you skate toward him. when he goes one way, go the other and shoot right before you would crash into him. you REALLY don't ever get one-timers in?!
  8. I made the game three hours long and I still couldn't get three people on the same team injured at once, but I did determine some things you may or may not have known. when the backup goalie comes in to play for one of the injured, his/her stats get recorded in the wrong places. the goals appear as goals allowed and the shots appear as shots faced. the goaltender playing forward or defense does have their shots and goals tallied in the game stats section, but they cannot earn hattricks nor stars of the game for their points-producing heroics. that is all for now. holler.
  9. yeah. I figured as much. I am trying to get into Genesis and I have gone through the simpler changes like ice color and weight bug and whatnot, but I'm hoping to use a program that will make player attributes easier to edit as well as do things I can't do with just a hex editor and a tile editor. can't get NOSE nor EARE to work (what's that? sorry, I can't hear nor smell!), so it looks like I won't be implementing the cooler stuff you've been working on. not the biggest deal, as the Genesis version isn't as fun, anyway.
  10. using DarWine to run this on a Mac 10.4.11, I am having it fail immediately upon opening the file I want. it isn't reporting why in the WineHelp messages. I can only get as far as seeing the symbols for load (a blank folder icon) save (a disk icon) and the other image across the top of the toolbar. when I pick a file to open, it crashes. please help.
  11. even though I have downloaded the file and placed it in the NOSE folder, I am being asked to register the mscomctl.ocx. I am trying to get this running through DarWine on a Mac 10.4.11. I can use the SNES editor, but I can't get this to work. please help.
  12. interesting question. there are only two stars obvious in the .bin ROM file. do the third and fourth reuse those? if you remove the first and second, do the others generate from somewhere else?
  13. DAMN IT! the .exe is not something I can drag other files onto, nor can I rightclick the file and force it to open it with that .exe, because it needs to run through DarWine. AARGH! thanks, though.
  14. pretty damned cool. oh, how I wish SNES was your preferred system... edit: this may have to do with the fact that I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to Genesis stuff, or it may be that I am running DarWine on a Mac to use this, or it may be that I need to seek out these specific files listed (if so, why not include them?), but, regardless, I'd like some guidance before I make things worse. thanks for your time. fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC90.CRT" (9.0.21022.8) fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.VC90.CRT" (9.0.21022.8) err:module:import_dll Library MSVCR90.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\\Users\\tru\\Desktop\\games\\Fusion363i(2)\\smozROMv100\\python31.dll") not found err:module:import_dll Library python31.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\\Users\\tru\\Desktop\\games\\Fusion363i(2)\\smozROMv100\\smozROM.exe") not found err:module:import_dll Library msvcr90.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\\Users\\tru\\Desktop\\games\\Fusion363i(2)\\smozROMv100\\smozROM.exe") not found err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\Users\\tru\\Desktop\\games\\Fusion363i(2)\\smozROMv100\\smozROM.exe" failed, status c0000135
  15. what's this line changes issue? you have to dump the puck? what, to get the last guy off the ice?
  16. this site rules! I would be superappreciative if you would teach me to replace the player portraits. I'd like to learn to move them around (give a certain player Adam Oates' picture, for example) and/or replace them with the generic images. SNES love!
  17. little to no difference. maybe the "....are playing very well...." boost is accounting for the zooming... now I plan to test that theory. ah, if only I could just get these scrub teams to always be as bad as possible, I'd be happiest. it's kind of lame that a 25 can fly. edit: this may explain Reggie Savage's TNS, though...
  18. next attempt will be 77 22 20 (or 77 33 30) and 00 00 03....
  19. I can't say I feel like I have made ANY progress. I've tried all sorts of combinations and I still have players zooming all over the ice even though they are 25s. if you think you can help, here's the latest file I referenced in my last post. advtest6.zip
  20. okay, that wasn't right. trying 70 20 20 for the allstar team and 07 02 03 for the rest. think it figures that the twos could be replaced with threes? like OTT/FLA/ANH are bad -> 70 30 30 and 07 03 03...? make sense? still testing and still getting left wings too fast and stuff... hoping this will kill all of that.
  21. word. I'm interpreting that as my having all teams as XX0100 is pretty fair, turning the effects down as much as possible. I'm trying to eliminate the extra speed some players seem to have in speed and acceleration. I'm getting a bit of random boost (like, say the left wing being significantly faster than all other skaters), still, but it does seem to be less than before.
  22. I set them all as 11 01 00, the middle set being insignificant powerplay boost and average penalty kill boost. the last two digits are a bit confusing. it seems like 00 and 13 both equal low home advantage/away disadvantage but 22 is high/high and 12 is average/high and 21 is high/average and 11 is average/average. do we know for sure that those first two digits of the six are offense and defense boosts? that statistic isn't listed in the booklet (Genesis), so I have no chart to analyze. well, I believe I have them all set to equal, at least, but I'd like to know for sure that I have lowered the supposed offense and defense boosts as low as possible. did that make sense?
