  1. EA has it right, no matter what goes on in the season, i atleast have some happiness in knowing that no matter what happens, i have my two terry yakes by my side to rack up the points that no one expects them to get. I want my Terry Yake and look out for the new yake-whoever-yake line...no longer will yake to yake action be only for shorthanded plays if the draft dictates i must go that route. Just none of you clowns go on picking him now because he racked up a 145 points, hes mine dammit!!! I mean my god, look at my favorite freaking way to score.
  2. hockey is the only sport i never got injured playing amazingly enough, ive broken 3 different parts of my right hand in 3 different sports...and while ive never gotten stiches, i did get staples in my dome and they looked sweet
  3. I think anything above 2 minutes is eccessively long because we only get 10 players, ive had 3 defenseman in the box before and ive had to use forwrads at defense for extended periods of time, so having a 3 minute penalty will only add to that and the lack of depth available to a player can put them in precarious situations. As for 1 minute penalties matching the length of penalties, i like it, but it is almost too short, i think matt said that the powerplay on 94 isnt as big of an advantage as it is in real life, i beg to differ. ive had around 60% success rate both seasons and the league rate is probably around 40-45%, so thats over double the advantage that it is in real life, 2 minutes is a big advantage, but it fairly punishes aggressive players.
  4. im game, buffalo can be had, if someone wants them, just let me know.
  5. no more yake to yake action? you are killing my dream of the yake line donch
  6. I keep stats with pen and paper, i keep track of individual stats as far as goals, assists, points and saves are concerened. i keep powerplay and shorthanded stats as well. but dadonchs new recordkeeper helps make things a bit easier and gives me a backup thing to use and lets me see stats while im in progress with the season. I just started a season with Calgary and 5 games in...guys are already putting up some sick stats.
  7. Recently i just finished my season against the computer using the ottawa senators and i have come to the conclusion that most of ottawa players are worthless piles of dung. Players like Baker, Kudelski, Turgeon, Boschman, and Maciver have a skill or two that makes them atleast servicable, but the depth players on Ottawa should just be delted from the game because they are so crappy. How that team even got 24 points that season is mindboggling inthe least. so here are the stats if anyone is interested, i use 10 minute periods, line changes, penalties, and offsides to try and create a realistic setting in an 84 game season modled after the 93-94 year. the lines: Kudelski-Baker-Boschman Turgeron-Lamb-Lazaro Hull-Peluso-Smail/Brady/Freer Maciver-Shaw Rumble-Hammond Jelinek-Luongo Kudelski-Baker-Lamb-Shaw-Maciver Turgeon-Brady-Boschman-Rumble-Hammond Murphy-Mcbain-Dineen-Marsh Archibald-Freer-Maciver-Shaw Jamie Baker: 112g-77a-189p Bob Kudelski: 111-60-171 Mark Lamb: 66-86-151 Sylvain Turgeon: 94-48-142 Laurie Boschman: 53-80-133 Jeff Lazaro: 54-49-103 Mike Peluso: 51-27-78 Norm Maciver: 16-59-75 Brad Shaw: 12-57-69 Jody Hull: 42-26-68 Doug Smail: 30-27-57 Darren Rumble: 10-39-49 Mark Freer: 30-17-47 Neil Brady: 21-23-44 Mike Mcbain: 26-13-39 Daniel Berthiaume: 0-36-36 Peter Sidorkwicz: 0-32-32 Ken Hammond: 4-27-31 Chris Luongo: 2-25-27 Tomas Jelinek: 3-20-23 Rob Murphy: 11-7-18 Gord Dineen: 1-17-18 Brad Marsh: 3-10-13 David Archibald: 9-3-12 Darcey Lowen: 1-1-2 Daniel Berthiaume: 40-1, 2.02 gpa, .886 sv%, 5 shutouts Peter Sidorkwicz: 39-4, 1.98 gpa, .882 sv%, 7 shutouts I played the first 15 games 3 or 4 years ago and lost 4 of those games, i played the last 70 or so in the last month and lost 1 game to Buffalo 5-4, a rare loss to the computer.
  8. Id like to preface this post by stating my true experience with both consoles. i have been playing nhl on genesis since 1992, and ive been playing nhl 94 for nearly 14 years now, i guess you could say the gens is my home system. i took up playing snes about a month ago, i experimented with snes about 5 years ago and wasnt really impressed with it, but over this last month i have probably played around a 100 games and have become quite familiar with it actually. The goal of this post isnt to say which system is better in a matter of fact sort of way, this whole argument is based wholly on opinion, i can look at as objectively as i please, but i still cant be presenting absolute facts here since the information can be translated in several ways and still be correct. snes plusses: -color pictures -photos for expansion team starters -more detailed player cards -one button goalie control -one button defense control (even though i still havent figured out how to use it correctly) -controller menu to select teams -slicker passing (almost too easy at times though) -skating on offense is easier to perform -players actually have blades to skate on -hats thrown for hat tricks on both sides of the ice and different colors -more varied goal celebration motions -defenders tend to stay back -indepth player-goalie battles snes minuses: -inability to save lines -no user records -password function for playoffs -way too easy to commit a penalty on breakaways -pokecheck is woefully ineffective -major league hooking by the AI which is very rarely penalized -one timers have to be extremely perfect -slappers are nearly useless -skating on defense isnt up to standards to play tight d against such slick offensive skating -checking seems largely random at times -relatively few ways to score -way too many posts -way too many interference calls -dead silent crowd -no highlights in intermission -no stat numbers when goals are scored -goalies seem largely the same since they all fall for the same dekes -goalies are rather easy to deke -games can degenerate into deke contests The snes provides a different experience that can be very fun for a time but can turn bland after a while, most games are largely the same and the need to strategize isnt so great. at times it can be who can out deke who and if i wanted to do that id rather go to shootout mode. This isnt to say the snes is a bad game, its actually rather good, goalie-player battles can be very entertaining and cause players to constantly think, sometimes one timers work their way into the game and it makes it even more interesting, but the amount of posts, interference calls, and other things that can happen can truly cause the game to be utterly frustrating for both parties playing. But the ease of passing and skating does allow for more consistent beautiful plays which can be appealing to the eyes. Gens plusses: -user records -saved lines -playoffs saved to battery -individual player records saved to cards -team records and crowd level saved to team cards -louder crowds and organ music -stats are displayed on every goal -slappers are actually useful -goalies are vastly different according to rating -interference penalties are no where near as fickle -more varied one timers -floaters (backhand floaters are especially sexy) -checking isnt anywhere near as random -pokecheck is incredibly useful -no where near as much hooking -far fewer posts (id hit more posts in one snes game then i would in a whole gens season) -highlights during intermission -more varied gameplay, thus more strategies can be used -goalie-player battles can be just as intense -weight bug Gens minuses: -weight bug (just one of those thigns) -black and white player photos -must hold button to get goalie control -passing is tougher (can be a plus depending on view) -skating isnt as fine -goalies tend to be a bit more eccecntric -really weak players can be dominant (gord hynes) -defenders dont stay as home as much -puckhandling through traffic isnt as clean -fewer goal celebrating animations -pass goals (depends on view) -inability to control defenders with push of a button -hats only thrown on top side of ice for hat tricks, all same color The genesis seems to have more ways to score and play defense which allows for more varied gameplay and a greater need to strategize against players and their playing styles. while the controls arent as tight, it seems more satisfying to score a goal in gens than in snes since your reduced to either dekeing or crease cutting in snes most of the time. and also since the gameplay is more varied, there is more depth and its harder to win consistently at. also the stats and ability to save line changes gives the game ab it more statistical depth and is more user friendly. I prefer Genesis, by a rather wide margin, while the Snes does provide some unique gameplay experiences and without a doubt very good games, it doenst quite come up to snuff in my mind when compared to Gens, if you love snes, by all means keep loving it, it is indeed a solid and worthy game to the franchise and you have every right to hold it as a superior being to Gens, just know trudatman, that it is no fact, and i will dare say Gens is better than snes...in my mind atleast.
  9. as a guy who has played seasons in both consoles, i think i could provide a fair and objective point of view on plusses and minuses of each system...something i may very well do...later tonight
  10. 15 teams? i was expecting 20, no biggie, i got my boys from hockey town and i get the feeling there will be a lot of goals scored for and against me with the way i will play this season, everyone fear me now!
  11. It doesnt seem all that bad to me...but then again, Vancouver has set the bar extremely low for themselves...just think...it could be worse...a LOT WORSE
  12. over the last few years i have been playing seasons on nhl 94 with 84 game seasons, 10 minute periods, line changes on, and offsides on, it kinda helps slow down the game a little bit and create a somewhat more realistic experience even though scores still can get out of hand. I have a few noteworthy defenseman in some of the seasons ive played. Dallas: Mark Tinordi- 84 games, 29 goals, 53 assists, 82 points...8th in team scoring Tommy Sjodin 84-13-66-79..10th in team scoring -Everyone else was rather unspectacular, especially in goal scoring, rather enemic actually. Pittsburgh: Larry Murphy 84-38-77-115...7th in team scoring, only behind the top 6 forwards Ulf Samuelsson 84-15-74-89...10th in team scoring Mike Stanton 84-8-65-73...actually has a decent shot, just not much chance to unleash it Kjell Samuelsson 84-11-29-40...again, not a bad shot -Far better defensive shooters on this team and a lot more production Anaheim: Alexei kasatonov 84-10-25-35...a very dissapointing season, scored even fewer points than Stu Grimson Bill Houlder 84-5-35-40...not a goal scoring threat on any level Sean Hill 84-7-22-29...2nd leading goal scorer among defenseman -Lack of any real scoring punch really hurt the defensive production, especially on lower lines. Florida: Gord Murphy 36-18-10-28...more goals than assists, extremely rare for a defenseman Stephane Richer 36-4-7-11...lighting up the lamp, 2nd in defenseman goals Joe Cirella 36-3-9-12...just had to put someone else on the list. -Pretty pathetic here, i tend to go into a defensive shell with florida since they have no attack, Hynes and Tichy yet to score, Godynyuk only with 1 goal 36 games into season. San Jose: Jay More 84-16-20-36...boffo shot for rather pathetic shooting team Sandis Ozolinsh 84-13-36-49...see Kasatonov dissapointment season Doug Wilson 84-29-26-55...Hat trick or nothing...far more nothings -This season was completed abotu 8 years ago, stats might go up if i did it again. Hartford: Zarley Zalapski 70-34-57-91...Hell, i didnt even realize he had this many goals Adam Burt 70-14-90-104...fair goal scoring, insane assists Eric Weinrich 70-9-51-60...rather unspectacular Doug Houda 70-11-23-34...high goal total in spot duty -My most recent season, just about to wrap it up in the next week or two, possibly explains inflated totals. Other notes: Ray Bourque has 8 goals in 10 games in a partial 10 game trial i had with with the Bruins about 6 years ago. Have yet to get my hands on Al MacInnis, Al Iafrate, Phil Housely, or Paul Coffey among several others. Tinordi, Wilson, and Burt are the biggest joys to use so far ive discovered, Sjodin, Kasatonov, and Wilson seem to waste the most chances.
  13. heres my ugly mug as of yesterday
  14. im not sure of any place they can be downloaded or something like that, but i improvised and created my own by using the record function on my cell phone, i have various different organ songs now thanks to that feature.
  15. ill confirm jrodimus, hes got a solid connection and a good attitude.
  16. 1. Detroit 2. Calgary 3. Montreal 4. Toronto 5. Quebec 1. New York Rangers 2. Dallas Stars 3. Ottawa Senators 4. Anaheim Ducks 5. San Jose Sharks Where is Chicago you ask? I cant stand them because i am a bum with Roenick, so whats the point of the team then? The Rangers are first because i have yet to win an online game with them where as with everyother team, i have won atleast one, they just have absolutely no team chemistry and no such thing as a legitimate offensive force in my hands. Where is Florida you say? They actually have a good team in my opinion with Skrudland at center, lomakin and hough on the wings with murphy and hynes on defense makes a fordable team that has had very suprising results for me. Tampa is the same deal, good chemistry and a solid line unlike the rangers and stars who are just a bunch of fast bums who cant play.
  17. I have a few more players who havent been noted yet. Terry yake is the exception to my choices, look at my signature, it tells part of the story and the 140+ points he had in draft league is the other part of it. Petr Svoboda- Good skater, powerful shot (who knows where its going though) and an incredible checker. Roger Johansson- Not the most reliable defenseman, but he can skate a bit and is solid with the puck. Mark Howe- Nothing too flashy, just solid defense that can pass the puck and score when given the chance. Mike Hough- I dont know what it is about this guy, but he is lethal, really pots home the chances created by Andrei Lomakin. Adam Burt- Another solid skater with a decent shot and checking ability, a far better choice than Eric Weinrich. Bruce Driver- Built in the Mark Howe mold. Derek King- A turtle in skates, but if you can get his shot off, its just as good as anyone else's save for roenick, ciccarelli, and sandstrom. Shawn McEachern- A good skater who has some offensive skills and can withstand a couple checks, sometimes gets playing time in place of jagr or stevens. Alexei Gusarov- A rock on the backline, checks, pokechecks, passes, shoots, some skating skills, a total package. Steve Kasper- An incredible defensive forward with a bit of speed and a whole lot of checking, not competely unfamiliar with the idea of scoring a goal either. Sergei Bautin- Very similar to Mark Howe and Bruce Driver, seems to be a bit more of a goal scorer though.
  18. in the nhl93 section of the forum clockwise just opened up an nhlpa93 site and i believe there is a rom there creayed by byatch based on the 2006 season, it may have 30 teams but i havent checked it out myself to make sure, that should be your best bet though.
  19. make that 2 beatings and i used most every dirty trick in the book against him just to piss him off
  20. appereantly im a scum bag among other things. your the first person to think that pizza, maybe that says a bit more about you?
  21. i just want to vouch for the idea of pulling your goalie and putting in bums, i just started trying it a few days ago and i just finished my stanley cup playoff run with the quebec nordiques. 5 minute periods, penalties-no offsides, 7 game series. conference quarters: win 4-0 vs penguins conference semis: win 4-3 vs canadiens conference finals: win 4-3 vs flyers stanley cup finals: win 4-3 vs red wings It seemed like as i went deeper and deeper i became more and more of a joke on home ice as i couldnt ever seem to win a game at home...game 6 at home against detroit was especially pathetic as i lost 12-4. But i managed to pull out three different game 7s with the starting line up of... lw: Tony Twist 29g-32a-61p c: Gino Cavallini 50g-70a-120p rw: Chris Simon 73g-38a-111p ld: Steve Finn 15g-18a-33p rd: Craig Wolanin 10g-27a-37p xa: Scott Young 46g-33a-79p
  22. id just like to personally state that my dropping out of the league had nothing to do with you brown. i have no complaints about you and i think you are fine person in the community, it is just the constant abuse of pizza towards others with his brashness and irrational decision making over time is what caused me to do what i did in playing my role of the leagues demise.
  23. what happens is that when you get on a 2 man advantage you can score twice before either penalty runs out. So for example you scored one goal and the first guy is removed from the box, and then you score the secnd goal before the other guy is out of the box thus creating 2 power play goals. The game registers this as only a single powerplay since it never actually stopped at any moment. It is a glitch, but the game is just basically saying you scored twice on the same powerplay window. Ive seen things get pretty wild with this stat where a will be 4/1 or 6/2 or things like that on the rare occasion, its quite the challenge to make it as insane as possible.
  24. Update as of July 9th. Eastern Conference: Kgman vs. habs Western Conference: Carse vs. EA/Pill (EA 2-0 series lead)
  25. i got my money on nylander. hes only 34 or 35 i believe.
