  1. I don't know does he remember anymore or was he working on these things, but I would like to know if he could clarify the awarenesses for us. What do they really mean, because there are so many theories and even some tests done to give contrary feelings. Few of the guys had tested it to be the speed for player reacting is your team or without the puck. Some say it's about positioning and there are some guys with contrary awarenesses that like to go to the net for example. If awarenesses are not about positioning according to those tests, what affects player positioning?
  2. Not a bad idea. Players could choose any team from the GDL roster as they won't know what team they would be getting anyways. Also gives players on waitlist something to do.
  3. Hokkee: We had to wait till chaos updates the site, that couldn't be done with any leagues running. Personally I liked #3 more because there are a few weird things in #2 like Darko (EU) playing with Kupuck (Cali) for multiple games of frame 7 and Skele & Me with multiple frame 7+ games too in same division, it's no ones fault, just could've easily changes Darko & Skele who were both rated 4 to still have the same balance, but take location in to account. But no need to change anything #2 is good enough.
  4. Yea, Gretzky, Coffey and Lemieux still fall sometimes, like every 1/3 to 1/6 try, so it's not that bad even with the resistance to it, didn't mean complete immunity. And no, I like B-check, I would not like to have it taken away, but in Blitz I might withstand it.. maybe........
  5. B-check is countered by stickhandling or at least stickhandling works as a resistance against it (needs to be 79 to have wobble effect, maybe lower too but could be ultra rare then, 79 does it rare already). Maybe the penalties off change difference to penalties on change could help solving it out. I'm not sure if I like the idea of B being taken away, but since Blitz has these hacks and formulas to make the game more realistic, maybe it would work in this league as well.
  6. Vancouver Canucks: O: #1, #PP1, #PK1 Ronning-Kamensky-Kovalenko x: Otto #2, #PP2, #PK2 Kovalenko-Francis-Ronning x: Leclair #CHK Otto-Ronning-Leclair x: Kamensky D: #1 Patrick-Ellet #2 Joseph-Ellet #3 Butcher-Joseph G: #1 Terreri #2 Waite Switch Kamensky to his original number of #31 in the game.
  7. Nashville (Plabax) challenges Vancouver and takes the crown with wins 3-1. Ggs!
  8. At one sitting if everything is good to go for both, but some days you just don't have it, why force it through then. Something like a minimum of 2 games at a time seems natural, so it would take something like a maximum of 3 sittings to finish a playoff series, but obviously aim to do as many or even all of them at the same session. I remember as kid it was easy to focus hard on gaming for like hours and hours and still stay sharp, but that just doesn't happen anymore, not every day. Now to be able to do that well requires good physique, diet and sleep too, harder but doable. I can easily address problem with focus like Seth said. Sometimes it just feels you're not thinking about the game at all, just pursuing the puck and these games are heavily against you. Sometimes I just play it through to not make myself look like a whiny ass even if I notice I'm not at my best and can't focus for shits (did one playoff series with a _massive_ hangover). Being a gentleman works both ways. Respect your opponent and play as many as you can, but respect has to go both ways. If you notice your opponent is not at his best and he wants to take a break, then it's suitable to get back to the series at a later time and not b***h and moan about it. Let people suffer their hangovers and other excuses, but keep the respect there both ways. =) There should be no enforced ruling on this one.
  9. Winnipeg (Lupz) challenges and Vancouver holds 3-0. We've tried to play series with Plabax, but had connection problems and with Probob we've been having scheduling problems, so not trying to play just against the new guys, lol. Come on vets, play some kings court!
  10. I'm good with #5 now that we understand that it's default in game, same as original, if it was to be changed somewhere, then return to the the default classic #1.
  11. What are the divisions? I liked Skip #3 most, but all options will pass.
  12. Yea, I didn't mean the thing like player cards, like the trading hockey cards. But more like a personal profile, but why not, that could even be implemented somehow, but definately needs more planning how they would be used on the site. Too much can make a mess and a simple site providing everything with ease is the best to use. Team & player drafts could have like coach cards, who picked who and that eventually leads to the coach profile page, but that I would postpone for further development, unless someone comes up with a good idea how it would be done. =) D ) Above being said, implementing player/team draft somehow to nhl94online.com would be a treat. Have them all implemented to the same site for easy usage and access for all. Could also have a draft list option that automatically drafts for a player if preferences/players are set. Below the link to the site we've used in GDL, it's not 100% accurate because it requires manual work, so the best information for draft history are the boards. The good thing is that you'd only need to run the nhl94 players to the database once and after that you could have that. But I know this would be time consuming. But for future plans nhl94online.com should provide drafting and also history of drafts as well. http://www.nflpickempool.net/GDLDraft/DraftedPlayers.php
  13. I have a few ideas that's been bugging me. I have not read this thread yet completely, but will do so later on to avoid putting on similar ideas. A ) The all time standings are usually of great interest for many people. However the current one is pretty much a mess. It would be important in my mind to have a list separated for Gens and SNES. -So games uploaded from gens leagues would have their own list and games updated from snes leagues would have their own. -It is important to have an all time list of all players, but it would be nice to have some modifiers to the list. -Active players, like you could see the current list of active players. Let's say like one calendar year should be enough for that. -Maybe be able to sort by leagues. Is someone really sucking in Blitz but doing well in others and so on. As an example: http://nhl94online.com/html/allstats.php<- You really can't say who has played in SNES/Gens, who played a season in Gens D Classic and burst his way up in win percentages and then never played another game in these leagues aka being no active user. This is also very hard to find from the site. B ) Invidual player/coach "cards" could be a nice implementation. -As of now you only can click on a players name like "Depch" from a specific league. It shows the league games of that current league. So what I'm coming up here is each user on the site should have their own player card that you can find loads of information, maybe even be able to write down messages, see current active leagues, past leagues player participated, trophies and all kinds of things. Similar to how the forum user info works. I'll write in an example below. http://nhl94online.com/html/standings.php?lg=23&sublg=GENS-A<- From the classic standings you can click on the name of the coach to open a team page. I think this page should open up from the team name on standings, but players should have their own pages like in the forums http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/user/56-depch/. But obviously with modified and improved information regarding leagues and such. Not sure if it is important to show the coach name on standings as it already is on the left side of the site, but definately from the team page at least. But it's nothing bad either. Just thinking of the layout if there would be a link for team AND the coach. On the left side of the site it is marked correctly as a team page on that league, rather than coach. C) I think you guys are doing that overall looks & fluidity improvement for the site in general. Will gladly wait on that and see if I have any more ideas to improve on that later on. Thank you very much for the work Chaos and Evan are doing (+ league admins and such). It's no easy task, especially for a job that doesn't get you paid. But at least it can be a great CV and maybe, if maybe we get the community running up big, there might be some sponsor and such for some benefit, but it requires a lot of work and commitment. But it is doable, been so in other smaller communities as well. I'll add new ideas later on as well, just had to get these out first. I'll write some more maybe after getting back to home. [EDIT] I'm also working in a hosting company atm. So if you guys have need for a free site or extra MySQL-databases I can provide some. The servers are located in Finland, but work out very reliably and for ok latency as well. But I have not noticed lantecy issues or problems with the web site at all. Once we had some downtime and got worried if Evan had paid the bill on domain services. =)
  14. Please, this is something I've been drooling about for some time. New features, improved intefrace and so on. Got plenty of ideas! Oh, and the documentary thing is great too. Looking forward to it.
  15. Hamilton (JV) challengs Vancouver, but Vancouver retains Kings court 3-1. Might be around later around for more.
  16. Sorry about all the fuzz, it really looked like first that we have a really bad option as hot/cold been there for the past 3 seasons, but Smozoma cleared it out and this was not the case. Someone still did install it without further inquiry, but because it did not affect the game itself in any way, only menu, maybe it wasn't thought of as such a big issue. I have updated option #5 back in untill we do a vote between #1 Original (classic, with fake menu skills) or #5 Current (classic with menu skills shown properly). This also was due to Brutus suggesting that maybe at least in the pre-season it would be better if players saw how their player skills were so if #1 will be put back in for the season, then people know what to expect and maybe how to notice differences in players by feel. GDL_SeasonXII_v19.bin
  17. Thank you very much for this clarification. So the true fix to classic #1 is option #5. All the bashing of option #5 makes me feel bad now when the classical option in game was the same! I would not like to install a new attribute system to GDL, thus I would remove the option #4 out of the equation and #2 as well as it is a completely different system to the original. In the end the smart vote for GDL then would be to keep it as #1 the classic, default (GDL 1-8) or use #5 that shows the true values in menu (GDL 9-11). I like the idea of seeing the player attributes, but my vote will go for keeping it classic just in case. The -0.4 & +0.4 indeed would equal to something like +/- ~8. The difference of 3 - 4 - 5 is 18 (54 - 72 - 90), so a attribute value of 1.0 would be 18 in the higher skills, then 0.5 would be ~9. If it is locked to -0.4 then a base skill of 4 should never be at 63? Yet we do get to see 72 -> 63 seen using option #5, which is -9, I' don't think I've ever seen a +9 though. This is not an issue though. I'm also really interested in trying to set up a cup/tournament later on with option #2, but not in the upcoming month or so at least. Maybe see GDL through first. Ty. Makes all clear now.
  18. Winnipeg (Lupz) challenged Vancouver for the throne but Vancouver withheld the throne 3-0 for now. Looking up for more games later on today!
  19. Voting to change #1 -> #5 never happened in the beginning, GDL legacy has been using more for option #1 than #5. We've been thinking It's been #1 all the way. I just fixed that, seemed to have some consensus in the aim chat. But voting is always better. I made examples to make it all clear for everyone. I don't think everyone has understood the case. And let's keep this as the exi rom thread. =)
  20. From the smozrom you have 5 alternatives to the case. #1 Classic option, this is how it's in nhl94.bin. All players have a separated hot/cold for each attribute in the game. Values shown in team roster/edit lines are fake. #2 Option where hot/cold is removed and players are always the same with base values like 0=25, 1= 32, 2=43, 3=54, 4=72, 5=90, 6=99. They never change and are static. #3 This option is used in Blitz. It's generally like option #1. Each attribute gets a hot/cold in the game, but values in team roster/edit lines are always static base values like in #2, masking the true values. #4 This option in game has hot/cold for each attribute, like in #1 & #3. This time values shown in edit lines/team roster _match_ the ones in the game. #5 This option gives a skill of 4 a hot/cold and same for and so on5. So example some games you have your player with a skill of 4 in speed,agility,shotpower,,accuracy,stickhandling,passing he could some games be 80 in all those skills, or some games be 63 in all those skills. I played 4 exis yesterday with Kamensky where he was 63-66 skilled for his 4 valued attributes in all of those games. He was essentially Clark, who is valued to something like a 7th rounder instead of a 3rd rounder. The other options are more true to players adp rating more often than not. For some reason fix #5 was installed to GDL without any notice to the "public". Had always thought that it was original and default like in #1. I'm all up for a vote. So in short. Options #1, #3, #4 are all the same in game. Each value has it's own hot/cold. Option #2 no changes, static player skills. Option #5 hot/cold for each skill rating of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6. Attribute range for each skill rating when giving them hot/cold. 0=25 1=34 +/- 9 2=43 +/- 9 3=54 +/- 9 4=72 +/- 9 (never seen 4 as 81 though, 80 many times. But like Kamensky was 63-66 4 games a row it can make your 3rd rounder a 6/7 rounder for multiple games in a row in option #5) 5=90 +/- 9 6=99 I thought you were aware of this as changing your lines so often started to make sense after this thread popped up. I had not understood the hot/cold case. I'm making examples of using Muller here. Option #1 (Classic option) Value in game: wgt 9 agi 4 = 80 spd 4 = 75 oaw 4 = 65 daw 4 = 63 shp 4 = 72 chk 4 = 67 sth 4 = 70 sha 4 = 72 end 4 = 80 rgh 1 = 40 pas 4 = 75 agr 3 = 63 Value in menu: wgt 9 agi 4 = 69 spd 4 = 77 oaw 4 = 72 daw 4 = 80 shp 4 = 78 chk 4 = 65 sth 4 = 68 sha 4 = 65 end 4 = 74 rgh 1 = 33 pas 4 = 80 agr 3 = 55 Option #2 (No hot/cold at all) Value in Game & Menu: wgt 9 agi 4 = 72 spd 4 = 72 oaw 4 = 72 daw 4 = 72 shp 4 = 72 chk 4 = 72 sth 4 = 72 sha 4 = 72 end 4 = 72 rgh 1 = 34 pas 4 = 72 agr 3 = 54 Option #3 (Similar to classic, just different mask on menu values) Value in game: wgt 9 agi 4 = 80 spd 4 = 75 oaw 4 = 65 daw 4 = 63 shp 4 = 72 chk 4 = 67 sth 4 = 70 sha 4 = 72 end 4 = 80 rgh 1 = 40 pas 4 = 75 agr 3 = 63 Value in menu: wgt 9 agi 4 = 72 spd 4 = 72 oaw 4 = 72 daw 4 = 72 shp 4 = 72 chk 4 = 72 sth 4 = 72 sha 4 = 72 end 4 = 72 rgh 1 = 34 pas 4 = 72 agr 3 = 54 Option #4 (The true fix to classic, so the skills match in game & menu) Values in game & menu: wgt 9 agi 4 = 80 spd 4 = 75 oaw 4 = 65 daw 4 = 63 shp 4 = 72 chk 4 = 67 sth 4 = 70 sha 4 = 72 end 4 = 80 rgh 1 = 40 pas 4 = 75 agr 3 = 63 Option #5 (I don't even know what to call this) Value in game & menu: wgt 9 agi 4 = 63 spd 4 = 63 oaw 4 = 63 daw 4 = 63 shp 4 = 63 chk 4 = 63 sth 4 = 63 sha 4 = 63 end 4 = 63 rgh 1 = 40 pas 4 = 63 agr 3 = 60 or wgt 9 agi 4 = 80 spd 4 = 80 oaw 4 = 80 daw 4 = 80 shp 4 = 80 chk 4 = 80 sth 4 = 80 sha 4 = 80 end 4 = 80 rgh 1 = 40 pas 4 = 80 agr 3 = 63 I hope this clarifies it. I seem to notice that your player especially when visiting seems to get more cold than hot. It can happen many games a row. Do you want your whole player to be completely crap then and not reflect draft status at all? That's what's going on here. Having a separate hot/cold for each attribute minimizes the effects of this and your player even when visiting will reflect more of the player you drafted than something what you could've gotten way later. But when the player gets hot, oh boy it's a joy. Too much of a difference here anyways from game to game.
  21. Vancouver takes the throne with a 3-0 sweep from the Islanders. Ggs. I'm available all day fairly well and looking up for challenges!
  22. Dream team tourney is finally finished. Game #1: New York Rangers @ Kallion Snatchers 4-5ot Game #2: Kallion Snatchers @ New York Rangers 4-3 Kallio wins 2-0
  23. New version. -This version has the hot/cold fixed to classic version how it was in the first 8 seasons and how we all assumed it was. Aka true attribute values will be masked by fake values in line changes/team roster and each attribute will have hot/cold instead of your whole player being sometimes crap or very good. -Included my FA move as well. GDL_SeasonXII_v18.bin
  24. Vancouver FA moves vol n+1. Dropping Doug Lidster and picking up Chris Joseph. Joseph will be my experiment for GDL. Guy has an offensive awareness of 3 and defensive awareness of 1. According to some theories off/def awarenesses are reversed as a bug in the game. If this is true, then Joseph should be one of the best positional D-men in the game with a +2 to OA, there are many +1 to OA d-men in the game, but not sure are there others who are +2 on OA vs DA, plenty of vice verse and even to +3. To my own theory OA/DA does not count towards positioning directly, but indirectly, but other things factor to positioning as well like checking. Trades 8/10
