  1. Just checked out your site, very cool! You make a great point on the desyncs also in season mode, and the saving that happens in the game. I am sure it can be fixed but would need someone with a bigger brain than me to figure it out.
  2. Hey MGK, Glad some more tecmo guys founds this place. I started over here then found the tecmo sites. Since I am an expert on the most hated NHL 95 game I'll give you some pointers. 1. It is a reworked game from the first two, I'd say it's kinda like the 16 bit versions of the Tecmo game compared to the Nintendo version. There are some improvements to the game but the feel that 94 has is mostly gone which people miss the most. 2. It also does not have fighting, it got reintroduced in 96. Which is also a reworked game. 97 and 98 are basically builds off 96. 3. 95 is the first NHL game to have season mode which is fun with trades and all the stats. 4. But the sega version which I prefer for 95 desyncs all the time so online play have never taking root like 94 has. (tried to start a league a couple times and crashed and burned from desyncs) 5. NHL 95 on the PC is much more like NHL 94 on the Gens/SNES, but does not have a large of a following either. 6. I love 95, I think its the best of the series, and playing against another person it is right up there with Tecmo. [curling up in a ball as I get flamed for blasphemy ] Glad to see both these communities coming together, I think some really good stuff will come from this.
  3. That is very interesting on the different FPS. We have always talked about having an international in person tourney with the Fins if we ever won the lottery. Would need to have to bring Sega's & Megadrives for home and away matches. Don't really want to debate the whole nhl94 v nhl95 stuff. People just have different tastes. I think the whole Genesis Series is great, but we settled on NHL 95 as our game of choice for our tournaments.
  4. Will be in attendance next year, great to see NFL films give some old school video game love. You guys should check out http://tecmobowl.org/ and http://www.tecmo.us/arena/ lots of online leagues there. I am in a few.
  5. 24 Finnish Flashes going at it in NHL 95. Been talking to these guys off and on for years, Great group of guys. Follow on Twitter at https://twitter.com/NHL95turnaus Website http://nhl95tampere.wordpress.com/ It's in Finnish but google converts it to english and you can get mostly what they are saying.
  6. Stay out of NHL95 Subforum you 94 Deadbeats......
  7. I think if you are using them to score, turn Aggressiveness and Checking 0. I think you can still check fine with check 0, the player just won't check when not being controlled. Probably could do the same for awareness.
  8. Great topic. I have been rocking the Sega 6 button controller with a USB adapter. More for Tecmo Super Bowl now than NHL but it has been working great so far. Have to go with an original sega brand too, don't buy the new ones like eggin said, have tried 3 different brands of those and they all break within minutes of use. Have also tried the Retro Link SNES controller, its dpad was horrible, would not even stay in the correct direction and also used the logtech pc controller that you can buy at target, dpad was horrible for NHL. Out of all the controllers you have used did any have a great fire button? Reason I ask is I play some Tecmo online and you have to do some track and field tapping to win tackle grapples.
  9. I know, "down b" is just the lingo we normally use for that goal.
  10. One man effort has more ways to score (talking genesis) - cutting across the crease - triple deke - pass shot (down B ) - Wrap around the net - Slap shot - rebound - ram the goalie One timers you are basically just passing to the center. You sometimes can do it with a wing or defender, but they are much more rare just the way the computer teammates line up. Once Manual Goalie is used well, the one timer really goes away so I would have to say one man is the way to go. Best way to score against manual goalie experts is the "dead man" move.
  11. Great Thread, - American Dreams in Baseball Stars: Babe, Hank and Joe routinely killed me with homers - The Amazons in Dusty Diamonds All Star Softball: almost unbeatable - 49ers in Tecmo Super Bowl. Montana to Rice - Mike Tyson: Mike Tysons Punch Out, nuff said - Chicago Blackhawks in NHL 93-95, Roenick, Chelios, Belfour - Galaxy Aces: Mutant League Football. Bones Jackson - Brawl State: Arch Rivals. The Mohawk guy, would pants you, punch you out and then dunking it.
  12. Digging all the 95 love lately. From my experience, I played the earlier versions of the game at friend's places but did not own a game until 95. I remember playing it initially and thought "this is a little different" with the more overhead view and the tighter controls. But once I started playing a season and finished a couple of them I could love no other game more(well maybe Tecmo Super Bowl) I remember getting 96 the next year and did not like the changes, I am sure that is the same as the 94 guys thought when they got 95. Now we are kind of conditioned to buy the next versions of the games each year for Madden, NHL, NBA. And Madden for instance I don't really compare the versions from year to year I just get used to the next version and play it. Anyways love the NHL series and it is by far the best series to come out of the 16 bit era, I don't see Madden94 or NBA95 message boards floating around and when you can get guys in their 30's (see below pic) to take time to play NHL 95 so many years removed from its release date, you know this game has a lasting effect.
  13. Good to see another 95er and from MN no less!
  14. Looks like this has been cleared up, but in the offline tourneys I guess no one has ever tried switching back and forth. It just been kind standard that turbo is off.
  15. IGN SoR Sega SEGA has shut down the Streets of Rage Remake fan project that had been in development for nearly eight years. The team behind the project, Bomber Games, finally released a free version last week for PC. SEGA's legal team quickly mobilized, however, and had the team remove the download links from their website. Fans are also requested not to upload the game elsewhere. "SEGA is committed to supporting any fans that take an interest in our games, and where possible we do so by involving them in Beta tests and other development, marketing or research opportunities," a SEGA representative said in a statement. "However we need to protect our intellectual property rights and this may result in us requesting that our fans remove online imagery, videos or games in some instances." A number of gameplay videos still remain on YouTube if you want to catch a glimpse. Hopefully this does come over to our neck of the woods.
  16. No the are just basically the same controller. The 6 Button is a little smaller and I think is a little more responsive. But other like the 3 button for the size and the little firmer feel. Kinda like fake boobs. We allow turbo but I don't think it would help at all. Especially since most gens controllers you have to flip a switch to turn turbo on (it not an additional button) C is both speed burst check and shoot. You would have to turn off turbo every time you are on offense. Actually guys have lost being a little too tipsy and not realizing turbo was on.
  17. It does! We don't have any set drinking rules, except you need to get sloppy. The Drinking endurance really comes into play near the end of the tourney. I was in the finals against a guy who I beat earlier in the night, but I am about 180 and this guy is 6-4 280. Needless to say he just mopped the floor with me in the finals. Anyways I think it's great if you guys do a console tourney. I'd start checking Ebay, sometimes you can buy a lot of old systems and controllers for next to nothing.
  18. I saw that Madison Tourney, may have to go next year since it is a drivable distance. I have ran my fair share of console tourneys for NHL 95 (cue the guy that will chime in and say "95 sucks")and being totally inebriated half way through them. My Tips are: 1. Have at least 1 extra controller per station. We just have a bag of extra controllers as some players are picky, plus you have the 6 button guys vs the 3 button guys for Gens. 2. If you buy extra controllers buy the old used ones. Those "new" sega controllers on Ebay are built to last about a day if they even work at all. 3. Have a pretty good ratio of game stations to people. Keeps people playing and shortens the tourney time considerable. 4. Cluster all the stations together. Playing people in a boiler room type atmosphere adds to the craziness of the tourney 5. Wallpaper the room in tag board to record stats the old fashion way. We have tried to enter it all in to a computer but somebody ends up deleting the whole thing. 6. Have a bunch of booze available.
