  1. cool! I wish you great success in this endeavor and I hope somebody volunteers to assist with the SNES side of things. the other two versions would be nice to include, too, as they are both quality installments worthy of proper recognition and examination. thanks for doing this!
  2. I can't get the site to even pretend to load. it just awaits a response....
  3. thirded. you almost never have to do the extra deke on non-elite players. being unpredictable in your moves is key against those with experience.
  4. the chips keep proving to be incompatible and the money keeps getting refunded from China, so that route has not worked, YET. I am still working on that. but, for getting one or two cartridges, the $40 is probably worth it, so I can cut my losses and stop trying to provide this same service at great effort from me, a person who has yet to succeed in this quest to produce my own cartridges. I'd love to be able to master it and offer similar items at about 60% of this cost, but I'm not sure I can beat the Genesis cost, even if those SLIGHTLY easier ones pan out.
  5. sure, but I'm not just looking to play 2-on-2 on the hard system, I'm looking to have one for each of my end-of-season ROMs for a collection and right now I only have 2012 as a hard copy. with the 2016 one almost done, that'd probably be the one I'd order through you. 40 sure is steep!
  6. I'm ready for anything you've got for me so far, guys. if there is anybody else willing to help tonight and/or tomorrow, PLEASE chime in!
  7. whoa, that's a lot. hmm. well, would we be ordering through you or would you be putting us in touch with somebody?
  8. word, thanks! ...but what tips would you wish to give a newcomer? what does somebody need to know about my ROMs in particular? what are advanced tips in the SNES version of NHL '94 that could put somebody over the top into being great? anything, really, at this point, and I'll try to find a way to pretty it up and incorporate it.
  9. you mean OA and DA, offensive awareness and defensive awareness, right?
  10. good players figure out their opponents and have many options to chose from as far as styles of play to deploy against what they see in the other player's strengths and weaknesses. having good defense is key. capitalizing on your chances is key. mastering the goalie control is key (in SNES, it's switching and stacking the pads in like an eighth of a second). in SNES, defense control and standing back up after hits are nice options to employ. in Genesis, knowing how long it takes to switch to the goalie and when to do it are key, as are knowing the pass shot option (even if it's just to defend against it) and the C-B check option. knowing when to stickcheck and when to crosscheck are key, and some elite players pay close attention to who, exactly, they are trying to check and quickly recall that player's ratings and tendencies to make the better choice. there's plenty more, but I'll stop there, for now.
  11. that makes sense, though, right? like.... you are charging at the player and then switching away to allow the computer to do its thing and hopefully check the guy, right? so, if his AI attributes predispose him to try to check often, he'll be more likely to do the thing you are hoping he'll do, right? I'm not a Genesis player, so I don't know a lot about the C-B check, but that was my understanding -- that it gets your guy near a check and then switches off of him, so the weight bug calculation isn't done and a different, CORRECT calculation is made on the likelihood of a successful check. so, weight and checking and agility and speed are factors in all of the experience, with weight and checking being the keys once you have B'd off of the dude.
  12. I think speed and agility play their parts in lining up and getting to a check, but I don't think aggression is anything more than the player's reputation with the refs. I think reputation only determines if you will be penalized for any given play and does not change AI behavior nor player-controlled abilities. also, this whole thread should be moved to the appropriate section.
  13. I'm working on a booklet for my SNES ROM, but a lot of NHL '94 stuff is relatively universal to each of the four systems, so don't hold back if you don't know much about the particular version. what I have created so far is below, but two of the pages repeat and could be replaced with new content. there are underutilized pages that could have stuff added, too. is there anything else that should be in there? please advise. thank you for your time!
  14. sweet! I'm going to plug away at overall player ratings and then on Thursday and Friday I'll do starting lineups, too. I'm hoping Cosmic will be able to help before the weekend, too, as I'd like to have this ready for release on Saturday, 4/16/16.
  15. okay. check your private messages. don't hesitate to get at me with stuff. there is no need to wait until you have a lot of notes. the sooner you let me know what's up, the sooner I can make the necessary changes. it'd be great if you can respond before this weekend, as I'd like to be "done" by Saturday morning. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
  16. interesting stuff. who are the outliers? Bourque and Lemieux and Bure and Selanne and Mogilny and Oates and Tikkanen and Yzerman come to mind, but I didn't check any ratings.
  17. oh, and goalie skills are something I don't necessarily know a lot about, so tips on any goalies you know would be cool, like "Jim Jones is garbage down low," or "Steve Smith is fast but can't catch the puck," or "Bob Burns covers the puck well but can't seem to stop high shots." this ROM I'll be sending to you two (hopefully by tomorrow afternoon) will not have overall ratings done, yet, so most players will get adjustments to their endurances/staminas and awarenesses to balance them to their intended overall ratings. lines also won't be set, yet, so forwards might be lined up on defense and stuff like that. a bunch of the skill ratings were picked about a month ago, so some stuff may be a bit off from final yearlong statistics. if you want to check shooting accuracy, that's done this way: (per season) 100+ shots with no goals = 35 <100 shots with no goals = 45 0.01-4.99% shooting = 55 5-9.99% shooting = 65 10-14.99% shooting = 85 15-100% shooting = 100 aggression/reputation: (per season) penalty minutes assessed / minutes on ice = x x = 0* = 45 x = 0.001-0.0399 = 55 x = 0.04-0.1099 = 65 x = 0.11-0.2999 = 85 x = 0.3 or more = 100 *I give players with very little ice time or very few games played a 55 -- or very rarely more -- even if they calculate to a 45, much like I do for the shooting accuracy with close to zero shots taken for the season, but it's done without hard rules, case by case. y'all don't need to check the work on that accuracy and reputation stuff, but I'm sure some have changed since I did the maths, so you can feel free to check any/all of those if you'd like to. I have just two rosters left and a few minor hex edits to do, so I might get the test ROM ready in the next twelve hours or so. stay tuned and thanks again!
  18. man, you've been at this for a long time! that's pretty cool.
  19. awesome! I'm thinking that maybe as early as tonight I will have a tester ROM ready (with lineups still to be set after each playoff team plays a game), so please stay tuned. we are getting really close, here. much appreciated!
  20. those very funny men look like they have eaten a lot of meat over the few years since they been television regulars and I hope Nick's dad bequeathed upon him a Mangrate system in less than heavily-used condition.
  21. I'm looking for help with exactly what I described above. the thing is about three days or so from being "done," but I tend to overlook my own errors on things like handedness, weights, spelling... it seems I make far more simple mistakes than I would ever have guessed, as evidenced from last year's installment. it makes sense, seeing as I work alone or with my girlfriend's help -- if she's feeling it that season -- but, anyway, over these last few years, I have been very lucky getting simple verification checks on jersey numbers and the likes from members here. none of those participants have logged in recently, so if you'd be willing to take on any of that stuff, expect a ROM link in your private messages sometime in the next few days. please advise on if you'd be willing to do any/all of those checks and then stop in here daily this week. thank you very much for offering to play the hero. here's to everything falling into place! oh, and if while you are doing that stuff, you'd like to offer opinions on specific ratings, help is always appreciated there, too, in certain fields, including player acceleration/speed, player shot power, player stickwork/puck possession/check resistance....I don't need help with overall ratings for players, but I can explain how I do team overall ratings, player shot accuracy and player pass/shot bias to the point that those can be checked, too. there is always more to do, but the priority I'd ask of you is toward checking my work for basic errors first. thanks again! please advise.
