Well Win7 is tried and true, so just based on that I would prefer to use it. If I were upgrading to a new computer I would still make sure it worked with Win7. (For Gens and other apps.)

I think Brutus had us Bs in mind when he proposed his initial system. He is a great commish, and I appreciate his innovative ideas. That aside, I want to play as many As as possible. And get my ass kicked. I liked it the way it was, me playing lots of As, me getting lots of beat downs. (I did manage to crawl from 4 wins to 11 wins, so I am slowly improving my short GDL record. Can't help but think this is partially due to playing guys much better than me.) And AJ, I will take you up on talking shop after you kick my ass. Guess I am a masochist but I am looking forward to it. I like it the way it is.

Ok, first, I appreciate what Brutus does, and also appreciate his innovative efforts. He is not afraid to mix things up, and to me, that is a plus. To be clear, option #1 is the same thing as "Do nothing. Keep things as they were last GDL," right? (I am pretty sure this is the case, but want to make 100% sure so I don't mis-vote. And yes, my vote will be to not change things, although my panties will not be in a knot either way.)

This rings hollow. You could use the same "logic" to argue that the Classic results indicate who is most skilled, and wonder why the "lower level players kick the sh*t our of the top guys in GDL". In other words, the exact opposite of what you are claiming. Observing that top Classic Players and top GDL Players rarely overlap is interesting (if it is true). Inferring from this that the guys that do well at Classic are actually crap ("lower-level") is ridiculous. Finally, this thread started out with Chaos and Raph keeping things moving, then had post after post of people posting results of the playoffs and congratulating their opponents. Was a kind of "feel good" thread. Then you come along and piss in everyone's cornflakes. What the...?

Yeah people are emphatic about that. CB and Pass shots don't make someone elite. The best players have a solid foundation without the tricks. But, I am surprised that (it seems) everyone that is an elite A level is proficient in CB, and most (except KG) are also proficient at Pass Shooting. I was fully expecting, when I started the thread, that KG did not CB at all, and that there would be a few other names to add to the list.

Well I could say a lot about the point of the thread, and defend my reasoning, but it would be absurd. (Even moreso because you have posted here multiple times, for which I thank you! ) Suffice to say I start threads to stimulate conversations, never knowing where they will go. And if there is a point or two raised that I didn't know before, I find it interesting, and by extension perhaps others do, too.

It is interesting to me that all of the pros (upper end of A) do CB and Pass Shoot. It is hard to gauge the lay of the land from down here (middling B level) because I don't play many As, but my feelings are: 1. Mastering CB is a much bigger advantage than Pass Shots (although I wish someone would indicate if KG pass shoots at all?) 2. Raph hammers home even without CB and PS, a top tier A guy will beat the Bs (by extension: A solid game is more important than CB and Pass shots.) 3. I think you need other people to comment on what opponents do, because (many) coaches can't be objective about their own style So for once and for all, does KG pass shoot? And who has the most variety in their pass shots?

A "B League"? In other words, all of the A-lIsters Pass Shoot and CB check, to varying degrees? (I had thought that there were a few, talented hold outs -- like KG [now proven wrong] -- that could still compete at the highest level without the tricks? Guess I was wrong.)

So if even KG is using CB, possibly *no one* at a high level is getting by without it? And what about pass shots, kgman, do you ever do those?

Who are the best coaches that do not use any of "tricks", specifically CB checking and Pass Shooting? I hear KGman's name mentioned before, but did he really *never* use these techniques, as in 0%? Any other Old School types to add to the list? (By Old School I mean those who play traditionally, without the trick plays.)

So like GDL you are going to keep cycling without a break? (I thought waiting for the Fall like Classic sounded like a good idea?) Or.... If GDL draft starts July 4, and the season kicks in a week or so after that, and then there is a big flurry of activity for the first month which dies off, that lull is the ideal time to start VHL. Like the 2nd week in August?

This. I think Plabax has a good idea here. And I am on Facebook and couldn't care less if they have my phone number, so I would be ready to implement Plabax's idea. BUT. It is obvious there are too many people who do not want to have anything to do with Facebook or probably any other method for this to work. People don't want to install *another* app. We need to: 1. Stick with AIM, or 2. Find a better replacement that does everything we want it to And, it is way easier to just stick with AIM. It is crap, but it is good enough. Just like the Slacker issue, ultimately the problem is the users, not the system or software.

I think both players should get punished, but at the discretion of the Commish. It is a good incentive to REALLY try to schedule games knowing you may get dragged down by a drowning man. That said, if someone played all their games except for 2 against the same guy, who was himself missing tons of games, yeah, I could see a Commish saying these DNPs only count against the Slacker. But using formulas or having a bunch of rules regarding DNPs will only add unnecessary complications. In my opinion.

I am Canadian and I have AIM on my phone. I will post how to do it in a suitable thread when I remember how I did it. (Atomic Raven clued me in.) That said, I do not think non-American's can link mobile #s like Raph suggested.
